  • VS 2008 unstable after "Stop Debugging"

    - by liys
This was on Windows Server 2003 X86, VSTS 9.0.30729.1 SP I used "Attach to process" to debug the program, but recently when I "Stop Debugging" by "shift + f5", I was prompted with an error saying "VS has an internal error and will be unstable". After that all the debug related menu items were disabled e.g. "Start debugging" and "attach to process" etc., even when I forcibly closed the program the situation remained, leaving me the only option to restart the solution. The only reason I can think of causing this is that I forcibly kill the process a lot, in order to able to rebuild it quickly, other than that I didn't do anything abnormal to VS. another sympton: when I tried to close the VS normally, I was prompted with "source file [] does not belong to the project being debugged" for all the files I opened inside of IDE, but the file does belong to the project. Thanks for any reply.

  • How to display CodeRush menu item in VS ?

    - by drasto
I just installed CodeRush to my VS and when I run VS for the first time after installation it showed me a dialog asking if I'm experienced user. While the dialog was visible I could see that there was new menu item in VS named DevExpress. There was a small check box on that dialog saying something about menu items that I probably should have checked. As I did not the menu items disappeared just after I clicked OK. I cannot make that menu item reappear. Can somebody help me with this ?

  • VS 2010 SQL Update for SQL Statement

    - by Mike Tucker
Please bear with me as I'm just beginning to learn this stuff. I have a VS 2010 Web project up and I'm trying to understand how I can make a custom UpdateCommand (Because I chose to write my own SQL statement, I do not have the option for VS 2010 to auto generate an update command for me.) Problem is: I don't know what the UpdateCommand should look like. Here is my Select: SELECT * FROM Dbo.MainAsset, dbo.Model, dbo.Hardware WHERE MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID AND MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID Which, VS 2010 turns into: SELECT MainAsset.pk, MainAsset.img, MainAsset.device, MainAsset.model, MainAsset.os, MainAsset.asset, MainAsset.serial, MainAsset.inyear, MainAsset.expyear, MainAsset.site, MainAsset.room, MainAsset.teacher, MainAsset.FirstName, MainAsset.LastName, MainAsset.Notes, MainAsset.Dept, MainAsset.AccountingCode, Model.Model AS Hardware, Model.pk AS Model, Model.DeviceID, Hardware.Computer, Hardware.pk AS Expr3, Hardware.DeviceID AS Expr4 FROM MainAsset INNER JOIN Hardware ON MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID INNER JOIN Model ON MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID How would I approach updating one column, say "MainAsset.site" if that's changed in the Gridview DDL? Any help constructive help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Difference in performance: local machine VS amazon medium instance

    - by user644745
I see a drastic difference in performance matrix when i run it with apache benchmark (ab) in my local machine VS production hosted in amazon medium instance. Same concurrent requests (5) and same total number of requests (111) has been run against both. Amazon has better memory than my local machine. But there are 2 CPUs in my local machine vs 1 CPU in m1.medium. My internet speed is very low at the moment, I am getting Transfer rate as 25.29KBps. How can I improve the performance ? Do not know how to interpret Connect, Processing, Waiting and total in ab output. • Invalid algorithm specified on Windows 2003 Server only

    - by JL
I am decoding a file using the following method: string outFileName = zfoFileName.Replace(".zfo", "_tmp.zfo"); FileStream inFile = null; FileStream outFile = null; inFile = File.Open(zfoFileName, FileMode.Open); outFile = File.Create(outFileName); LargeCMS.CMS cms = new LargeCMS.CMS(); cms.Decode(inFile, outFile); This is working fine on my Win 7 dev machine, but on a Windows 2003 server production machine it fails with the following exception: Exception: System.Exception: CryptMsgUpdate error #-2146893816 --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid algorithm specified --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at LargeCMS.CMS.Decode(FileStream inFile, FileStream outFile) Here are the classes below which I call to do the decoding, if needed I can upload a sample file for decoding, its just strange it works on Win 7, and not on Win2k3 server: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.IO; using System.Security.Cryptography; using System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.ComponentModel; namespace LargeCMS { class CMS { // File stream to use in callback function private FileStream m_callbackFile; // Streaming callback function for encoding private Boolean StreamOutputCallback(IntPtr pvArg, IntPtr pbData, int cbData, Boolean fFinal) { // Write all bytes to encoded file Byte[] bytes = new Byte[cbData]; Marshal.Copy(pbData, bytes, 0, cbData); m_callbackFile.Write(bytes, 0, cbData); if (fFinal) { // This is the last piece. • How to know which operating system is suitable for my PC between 32/64-bit?

    - by avirk
I'm using 32-bit operating system since I've my laptop. I've never used the 64-bit operating system so I'm much curious about this that if I upgrade to 64-bit still my pc will give me the same performance. However I've checked about my hardware from this question. I don't know about those result that what they are saying? So I'm here for little help to know that is there any performance issue after upgrading or not?

  • Only a Macs can connect to WIFI with WPA-Personal security on.

    - by jfar
I have an odd issue with a Netgear WIFI router, 4 computers, 2 pc laptops with XP and 7 installed, one macbook pro and one older mac mini. With security off everything can connect to the wifi. With WPA-Security on only the macs can connect to the wifi. I've reset the Netgear router, done everything again from scratch, no deal. The PCs just can't connect.

  • Should I store my code/projects on my SSD or my secondary drive?

    - by user37467
I just got a new box. It has an SSD for the primary drive, and a 1TB SATA for the secondary drive. I'm going to run windows and my binaries on the SSD and keep all my downloads/documents/music/etc on the secondary drive. My question is should I also keep my Visual Studio Projects and code on the SSD or keep them on the secondary drive? The faster SSD would presumably be better for compiling and indexed searches, but would it be better to keep it on the 2nd drive for a more parallel disk IO situation?

  • Accessing the project system from a Visual Studio MEF Editor extension

    - by Daniel Plaisted
I'm writing a Visual Studio editor extension using the VS 2010 SDK RC. I'd like to be able to figure out what the references of the current project are. How do I get access to the project corresponding to the current editor? The documentation on editor extensions doesn't seem to include information on how to access non-editor parts of Visual Studio. I did some searching and it looks like in VS2008 you could write add-ins that would access the project system, but I'm trying to get at this functionality from a MEF editor extension.

Intelligence\n"; cin >> mainAttrChoice; switch (mainAttrChoice) { case 1: attribute = "Strength"; health = 750; mp = 150; armourVal = 2; break; case 2: attribute = "Agility"; health = 550; mp = 200; armourVal = 6; break; case 3: attribute = "Intelligence"; health = 450; mp = 450; armourVal = 1; break; default: cout << "Choice invalid, please try again."; exit = 1; break; hero player; player.setBasics(heroName, attribute, health, mp, armourVal); player.setAttkData(attribute); heroCreated=1; system("cls"); cout << "Your hero has been created!\n\n"; player.dumpData(); system("pause"); break; } case 2: system("cls"); if (heroCreated == 1) { cout << "Your hero has been detailed below.\n\n"; **player.dumpData(); //ERROR OCCURS HERE !** system("pause"); } else { cout << "You have not created a hero please exit this prompt " "and press 1 on the menu to create a hero."; } break; case 3: system("cls"); cout << "Still Under Development"; system("pause"); break; case 4: system("cls"); exit = 1; break; default: cout << "Your command has not been recognised, please try again.\n"; system("pause"); break; } } while (exit != 1); system("pause"); return 0; } void dispMenu() { system("cls"); cout << "1. Create New Hero\n" "2. View Current Hero\n" "3. Fight Stuff\n" "4. Exit\n\n" "Enter your choice: "; } However upon compilation I get the following errors: 220 `player' undeclared (first use this function) Unsure exactly how to fix it as I've only recently started using OO approach. The error has a comment next to it above and is in case 2 in the main. Cheers guys.

  • Xubuntu vs Ubuntu 10.04 Performance

    - by wag2639
I know it just came out today, but are there any statistics with memory requirements, system resources, power usage, and performance to decide which is better Xubuntu or Ubuntu (XFCE vs Gnome)? My main concern is running it as secondary OS on my Lenovo T400 laptop to just get online quickly and using SSH from a terminal to connect to remote web servers.

  • Relative security of SAML vs Kerberos

    - by Robert Gowland
Does anyone have any info/links on the relative security of SAML vs Kerberos. I believe I grasp the differences between the two, and what they mean for my particular application, but to decided between the two, knowing which is more secure, if either, would be a valuable bit of info.

  • 32bit vs 64bit guest VM and RAM usage

    - by sims
Why does a 32bit domU (Xen guest VM) use less RAM than a 64bit? Notes: The same software complied for a different arch(AMD64 vs. 686). Obviously this is Linux or BSD or something easily ported. Maybe this is also a good one for SO. I've read this is so. I can guess why, but I'd like to hear everyone's comments.

  • Nagios graphing solutions vs Munin/Cacti/Ganglia

    - by sumek
I've got a nagios server setup for monitoring ~ 30 Windows servers. I want to add some trending charts. I've read that nagios graphing plugins are simple and many people use seperate, standalone charting/trending tools. What are the restrictions of the nagios graphing plugins vs standalone products like ganglia/munin/cacti? I'm interested in specific features and advantages that standalone packages offer and nagios graphing plugins don't.

  • VMWare Player vs Workstation

    - by Anjisan
What's the difference between VMWare Player vs Workstation? Is it that Player is for non-commercial use and workstation isn't? For someone who builds and tests applications at home for non-commercial use, is it worth paying for a Workstation license? Do I get any benefits over Player? (Note: I realize there's open source solutions like VirtualBox, but am more interested in the differences between Player and Workstation.) Thanks!

  • Server 2008 Print Server vs Network printer

    - by cpgascho
I have a SBS 2008 Server/Windows 7 environment. We have approx 25 users & 6 Networked printers. What is the recommended way/what are the advantages disadvantages of having all the printers shared through the Server 2008 Print server vs having workstations connect directly to the workstation printers. Off the top of my head using the server 2008 print server is a single point of failure but Should make it easier to deploy/manage the printers.

  • Is there a difference between the actual chip intended for Dual Channel vs Triple Channel

    - by JimDel
Is there a difference between the actual chips intended for Dual Channel vs Triple Channel. I bought a set of triple channel memory but I'm only using 2 of the 3 chips. I'm getting the error "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 197.45 stopped responding and has successfully recovered" There seems to be a TON of discussion on the web about this and some say it might be RAM related. This is the ram I'm using. Thanks
