  • How to number the ls output in unix?

    I am trying to write a file with format - "id file_absolute_path" which basically lists down all the files recursively in a folder and give an identifier to each file listed like 1,2,3,4. I can get the absolute path of the files recursively using the following command: ls -d -1 $PWD/**/*/* However, I am unable to give an identifier from the output of the ls command. I am sure this can be done using awk, but can't seem to solve it.

  • Why AVCaptureSession output a wrong orientation?

    Hey guys, So, I followed Apple's instructions to capture video session using AVCaptureSession: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2010/qa1702.html. One problem I'm facing is that even though the orientation of the camera / iphone device is vertical (and the AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer shows a vertical camera stream), the output image seems to be in the landscape mode. I checked the width and height of imageBuffer inside imageFromSampleBuffer: of the sample code, and I got 640px and 480px respectively. Does anyone know why this's the case? Thanks!

    Ant has a -e option for outputting error messages that can be parsed by emacs' compile command. For example, it is possible to do M-x compile, ant -e, then nagivate to any errors with C-x `. Is it possible to make grails output its compilation errors in this format? Alternatively, is there an emacs variable that can be customized to handle error messages in the format that grails uses?

    A function I'm using has "display()" in it (or other things that display messages on command window), so it outputs a lot of things (x 1200) on command line when I run my code, which makes things hard to track and observe. Is there a way to suppress the output of this specific function? Ending the statement with semicolon obviously doesn't help.

    I want to iterate over each line in the output of ls -l /some/dir/* Right now I'm trying: for x in ls -l $1; do echo $x done, however this iterates over each element in the line seperately, so i get -r--r----- 1 ivanevf eng 1074 Apr 22 13:07 File1 -r--r----- 1 ivanevf eng 1074 Apr 22 13:17 File2 I want to iterate over each line as a whole, though.     I'm writing a C program where I fork(), exec(), and wait(). I'd like to take the output of the program I exec'ed to write it to file or buffer. For example, if I exec ls I want to write file1 file2 etc to buffer/file. I don't think there is a way to read stdout, so does that mean I have to use a pipe? Now I'm building some kind of a preview page where users will get to see how their input will look once it's stored. What would be the fastest (in execution time), using XSL to transform the xml to a html page, or using php to render the output? My guess is XSL is far more suitable (+ faster) for this (and by using a DTD there's no need for code written validation, right?)

But the question is, do I have to escape each of those 90 outputs by applying functions to each (in my case, the htmlspecialchars)?     I'm considering picking up some very rudimentary understanding of assembly. My current goal is simple: VERY BASIC understanding of GCC assembler output when compiling C/C++ with the -S switch. Just enough to do simple things such as looking at a single function and verifying whether GCC optimizes away things I expect to disappear. Does anyone have/know of a truly concise introduction to assembly, relevant to GCC and specifically for the purpose of reading, and a list of the most important instructions anyone casually reading assembly should know?
