    I am running Macports apache2 on Mac OS X 10.5. Whenever I configure a virtual host in the default folder, it works, however when I configure the virtual host in my home directory I get a "403 Forbidden" error. How do I configure a vhost in my home directory?   • Certain banking pages not loading

    For some unknown reason, I am suddenly unable to access my accounts at several banking and credit sites. I have been a registered user at each site for several years and know I am using the correct user ID and password. Yet, after entering the data, answering security questions, and clicking the submit button, I land on a page with an error message saying their is a technical problem preventing me from accessing my account. On one site, I end up at the sign in page repeatedly. I am never told that my ID/password are incorrect. I believe may be firewall related. Windows firewall was damaged after a recent malware attack. I am now using a third party firewall (Fort Knox). I am not seeing a pop-up indicating sites are blocked or asking me to indicate yes or no. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I get the same result regardless of the browser. I switched to Maxthon last night and am getting the same result. This is not happening at other sites. And I am able to access some banking sites normally. This is frustrating because I need to make payments and have gone paperless. Any feedback will be appreciated. ---- Joe ----

All my sites cron is heavy, usually the cron running more than one minutes. my nginx.conf has become too big until nginx refuse to start because too many sites in it. it has been solved by increasing server_names_hash_max_size. Im planning to add more sites in my server Now, opening my website always showing 504 Gateway Time-out. I have tested many eaccelerator and PHP setting, but this 504 Gateway Time-out still happen. the 504 Gateway Time-out will dissappeared when cron is disabled I have no idea: is this because not enough processor power? As you can see from apache2ctl when I use happyslice.net I get the default virtual host, when I use a subdomain, I get the happyslice.net host. So the later is working how I want, but the main url does not. I've tried all kinds of variations here, but it appears that ServerName just isn't being tied to the correct location. Thoughts? I'm stumped. FYI, I'm running Apache2.1 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

    I have an Apache reverse proxy that is currently reverse proxying for a few sites. However i am now going to be adding a new site (lets call it newsite.com) that should only be accessible by certain IP's. Is this doable using Apache as a reverse proxy? I use VirtualHosts for the sites that are being proxyied. I have tried using the Allow/Deny directives in combination with the Location statements. For example: <VirtualHost *:80> Servername newsite.com <Location http://newsite.com> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from x.x.x.x </Location> <IfModule rewrite_module> RewriteRule ^/$ http://newsite.internal.com [proxy] </IfModule> I have also tried configuring allow/deny specicaily for the site in the Proxy directives, for example <Proxy http://newsite.com/> Order deny,allow Deny from all Allow from x.x.x.x </Proxy> I still have this definition for the rest of the proxied sites however. <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> No matter what i do it seems to be accessible from any where. Is this because of the definition for all other proxied sites. Is there an order to which it applies Proxy directives. I have had the newsite one both before and after the * one, and also within the VirtualHost statement.

What I would like to do is to be able to enable PHP for all hosted sites on this server (without having to add a PHP location block with fastcgi parameters) for maintainability. This is so that if I need to change any fastcgi values for PHP, I can just change it in 1 location. Is this something that's possible for nginx? If so, how can this be done?

  • Phusion Passenger (Apache, Sinatra) suddenly not working for a single site on my server

    I've had Phusion Passenger working for a few of my sites for months. Then, today, it stopped working for a single site. I hadn't changed anything (I hadn't even SSH'ed into the server for a week), and everything is set up the way it should for it to work. Plus, it's working fine for other sites! I'm about to pull my hair out trying to find out what's wrong, so I was hoping y'all could help. Passenger is not working on kerricklong.com -- I only get the "It works!" Apache default page. If I look at the headers, it's not even serving the X-Powered-By: Phusion Passenger (mod_rails/mod_rack) header that I get on my other (currently working) Passenger-powered sites on the same server running Ubuntu Server 10.04. The following is in my /etc/apache2/sites-available/kerricklong.com file, but it's identical (with names and paths changed) to the configuration file for the site that is working. <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName kerricklong.com ServerAlias *.kerricklong.com DocumentRoot /redacted/path/to/kerricklong.com/public ErrorLog /redacted/path/to/kerricklong.com/logs/error.log <Directory /redacted/path/to/kerricklong.com/public> Allow from all Options -MultiViews Include /etc/apache2/h5bp.conf </Directory> php_flag engine off </VirtualHost> I've got the necessary tmp/, logs/, and public/ directories, along with config.ru. Two sites, each with their own config file in /sites-available/ and /sites-enabled/ www.foo.com bar.foo.com The www directory is set up as: www/ foo.com/ foo.com/index.html bar.foo.com/ bar.foo.com/index.html shared/ shared/404.html Both config files in /sites-available are the same except for the root and server name: root /var/www/bar.foo.com; index index.html index.htm index.php; server_name bar.foo.com; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php; } error_page 404 /404.html; location = /404.html { root /var/www/shared; } I've tried the above code and also tried setting error_page 404 /var/www/shared/404.html (without the following location block). I've also double checked to make sure my permissions are set to 775 for all folders and files in www. When I try to access a non-existent page, Nginx serves the respective index.php of the virtual host I'm trying to access. Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

  • Architecture for highly available MySQL with automatic failover in physically diverse locations

    I have been researching high availability (HA) solutions for MySQL between data centers. For servers located in the same physical environment, I have preferred dual master with heartbeat (floating VIP) using an active passive approach. The heartbeat is over both a serial connection as well as an ethernet connection. Ultimately, my goal is to maintain this same level of availability but between data centers. I want to dynamically failover between both data centers without manual intervention and still maintain data integrity. There would be BGP on top. Web clusters in both locations, which would have the potential to route to the databases between both sides. If the Internet connection went down on site 1, clients would route through site 2, to the Web cluster, and then to the database in site 1 if the link between both sites is still up. With this scenario, due to the lack of physical link (serial) there is a more likely chance of split brain. If the WAN went down between both sites, the VIP would end up on both sites, where a variety of unpleasant scenarios could introduce desync. Another potential issue I see is difficulty scaling this infrastructure to a third data center in the future. The network layer is not a focus. The architecture is flexible at this stage. Again, my focus is a solution for maintaining data integrity as well as automatic failover with the MySQL databases. I would likely design the rest around this. Can you recommend a proven solution for MySQL HA between two physically diverse sites? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to reading your recommendations.

  • Display maintenance site to requesters based on their IP address

    Hi all. I would like to set a special configuration in our apache web server. I would like to display sites to the users according to their IP addresses. We plan to upgrade our web sites. During the upgrade we'll put a maintenance site: so all the users which will connect to our web sites will get this site. There are 200 websites affected by the upgrade, so I don't want to change apache settings for each one. In order to test the upgrade i need to set apache to let only my IP address to access to asked site. If my IP address is a.b.c.d and if i ask for test.com i want to see it. but all other users, having a different IP address, should get the maintenane site even if they look for test.com. Our webserver is hosted out of the office (ovh.com france). The testers are the developers at our office and me. We can take some sites and enable them for test in which we implement IP restrictions in each website: the idea is on these websites, if the visitor's IP address is different from our office IP address we redirect this visitor to our maintenance website else we display the website. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

  • Backup Exec 10 - Network connection to the remote agent has been lost

    Okay, so I have 4 remote offices, all running off of a 3mb ethernet connection. Two sites are part of a WAN and 2 sites are using 3mb connections over a site to site tunnel. I am using Backup Exec 2010, I have the remote agent installed on all the remote servers. For the past few weeks now, on the two sites running over the site to site tunnel have been failing with the following error message now. "The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Check for network errors" We used to be on a DSL connection site to site tunnel, now we changed to the 3mb ethernet connection using site to site tunnel. I have to find out, has it been failing ever since we changed, or just recently. Backup exec support is telling me it is a network issue. My communication or connection to the server is solid, we don't have any issues, or outages. So I am baffled on why this continues to fail. And why just those two sites.. Any advice?

    I have read the Apache documentation on the https-vhosts.conf file and after a couple of hours fighting this problem, figured it out on my own. Here's the situation: We have a domain that ends in a .ws Apparently you can't do this in the conf file. You MUST use the ? wildcard or it will not work. The * wildcard will not work either. Further, in the ServerAlias directive, anything past the first entry will not work if the first entry in the ServerAlias directive is not correct. Here is an example of an entry that does NOT work. Note that anotherdomain.com and yetanotherdomain.com will fail because thedomain.ws is not configured correctly: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain ServerName www.thedomain.ws ServerAlias thedomain.ws another domain.com yetanotherdomain.com <Directory /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain> allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Here is an example of our working entry: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain ServerName www.thedomain.ws?   • SSL connection error for only one site (of many) on server

    I have a server running many websites, each with SSL. One of the sites is now refusing connections over SSL. This was previously working and I'm looking for assistance in determining what has been changed. Here's the situation: http://site1.com/ - works https://site1.com/ - works http://site2.com/ - works https://site2.com/ - Doesn't work (but did previously) Both sites are on the same server (Win Server 2003 SP2 - IIS6) Both sites use certificates from the same authority and are both valid (according to IIS). As far as I can tell, both sites have certificates configured identically in IIS. (Checked by a manual/visual check of properties, side by side) Through use of OpenSSL I can see that there's a "ssl handshake failure" when trying to connect to site2 using https. What could be the cause of this? How can I investigate further? Without SSL connections being available to this site, users are unable to log in or register. :( disclaimer: I'm not a server admin and not responsible for the box. Yes, there are wider issues here but I need to get this working again first.

  • Can a website company that builds 4-5 websites a year afford dedicated hosting?

    We manage about 30 websites that use shared ASP.NET SQL Server web hosting. These are typical small/medium business websites and they perform fine in this environment. Recently I was looking at VPS hosting in this thread http://serverfault.com/questions/128329/how-do-you-host-multiple-public-facing-websites-on-a-vps After contacting a provider in one of the replies I was told that VPS hosting is not recommended for 30 sites, even if they are small. The resource requirements might be too great even for VPS. So I should turn to dedicated hosting. The lowest cost dedicated hosting is $219 per month (see http://www.serverintellect.com/dedicated/pentiumdservers.aspx). But this is only for a single processor which seems too light for a machine running both IIS and SQL. In our office all the developers work on quad cores so I assume I’d really need the Quad Processor. However, this starts at $599 monthly. Now, I won’t be able to transfer all of our 30 sites to this machine. I’d only be able to transfer say 5 or 6. However, moving forward, I’d be able to host all future sites on this machine. This amounts to 4-5 per year. Let’s look at the economics. Shared hosting costs are typically $16.95 monthly (see http://www.crystaltech.com/dotnet.aspx). So here’s the dilemma First months costs: $599 First month revenue: 6x$16.95 = $101.7 Loss in first month: $497.3 First year costs: $599x12=$7188 First month revenue: 6x$16.95x12 + 5x$16.95x6(averaged) = $1728.9 Loss in first year: $5459.1 Clearly it is going to take years for this server to pay for itself. It just doesn’t seem economical! Am I missing something here, or is dedicated not the way to go with the amount of sites we build?
