  Hey, I have this file. It stores a names, a project, the week that they are storing the data for and hours spent on project. here is an example "James","Project5","15/05/2010","3" "Matt","Project1","01/05/2010","5" "Ellie","Project5","24/04/2010","1" "Ellie","Project2","10/05/2010","3" "Matt","Project3","03/05/2010","4" I need to print it on the form without quotes. There it should only show the name once and then just display projects under the name. I've looked tihs up and the split function seems interesting any help would be good.

'</a></li>'; } echo "</ul>"; works fine, but its a long list and i would like to split it into ul chunks so that i can make columns. maybe like 5 results per ul. instead of one ul... i tried wrapping in a for statement but then just wound up outputting the results 5 times...oops...

  I feel that it should be something very simple and obvious but just stuck on this for the last half an hour and can't move on. All I need is to split an array of elements into N groups based on element index. For example we have an array of 30 elements [e1,e2,...e30], that has to be divided into N=3 groups like this: group1: [e1, ..., e10] group2: [e11, ..., e20] group3: [e21, ..., e30] I came up with nasty mess like this for N=3 (pseudo language, I left multiplication on 0 and 1 just for clarification): for(i=0;i<array_size;i++) { if(i>=0*(array_size/3) && i<1*(array_size/3) { print "group1"; } else if(i>=1*(array_size/3) && i<2*(array_size/3) { print "group2"; } else if(i>=2*(array_size/3) && i<3*(array_size/3) print "group3"; } } But what would be the proper general solution?   Hello I have a question for a c programmer out there, we have a tast at school to create a soft real time system in an operation system made by our teacher. Well that is all fine and dandy, we have chosen to create a system that calcuate how many unites of medicine a diabetic need based on his or hers blood sugar. It does not need to be correct just that we have the idea of a real time system :D But we have hit a little snag our formula for calculating the units of medicine is [blood sugar] * 1.2 But the only way we can send messages between processes is via a structure that contains 8 longs, but here is where my knowledge of c ends, we need for some way to split this double into 2 longs, example: the whole number in long 0 and the decimals in long 1 and then assemble it on the other side. But I have no idea who to do this, and therefore need a little help. We have tried but we do not have access to c standard libraries

  Here is a long string that I convert to a list so I can manipulate it, and then join it back together. I am having some trouble being able to have an iterator go through the list and when the iterator reach, let us say every 5th object, it should insert a '\n' right there.   OK my regex is a bit rusty and I've been struggling with this particular problem... I need to split and process a string containing any number of the following, in any order: Chars (lowercase letters only) Quote delimited strings Ints The strings are pretty weird (I don't have control over them). When there's more than one number in a row in the string they're seperated by a comma. They need to be processed in the same order that they appeared in the original string. For example, a string might look like: abc20a"Hi""OK"100,20b With this particular string the resulting call stack would look a bit like: ProcessLetters( new[] { 'a', 'b', 'c' } ); ProcessInts( 20 ); ProcessLetters( 'a' ); ProcessStrings( new[] { "Hi", "OK" } ); ProcessInts( new[] { 100, 20 } ); ProcessLetters( 'b' ); What I could do is treat it a bit like CSV, where you build tokens by processing the characters one at a time, but I think it could be more easily done with a regex?

  If I split the editor window (horizontal or vertical) into N tab groups, how do I switch/toggle from one tab group to another via the keyboard? If all of the tabs are in the same group you can switch from each tab easily (CTRL + right/left arrow), but when they're in separate tab groups I can't. I've searched through the key mappings and have not found one that seems to accomplish this. I know I can use the mouse, but I'm trying to find ways to avoid the mouse and stay with the keyboard. TIA for any help on this.

  I have a query that returns a large number of heavy rows. When I transform this rows in a list of CustomObject I have a big memory peak, and this transformation is made by a custom dotnet framework that I can't modify. I need to retrieve a less number of rows to do "the transform" in two passes and then avoid the momery peak. How can I split the result of a query by half? I need to do it in DB layer. I thing to do a "Top count(*)/2" but how to get the other half? Thank you!

  I've got a string that could be in one of two forms: prefix=key=value (which could have any characters, including '=') or key=value So I need to split it either on the first or second equals sign, based on a boolean that gets set elsewhere. '=' . $parts[1]; $val = $parts[2]; } else { $parts = explode('=', $str, 2); $key = $parts[0]; $val = $parts[1]; } Which should work, but feels inelegant. Got any better ideas in php? (I imagine there's a regex-ninja way to do it, but I'm not a regex-ninja.;-)

MySQL = 5.x support multiple statements, but unfortunately we are interfacing with MySQL 4.x. I am trying to find a way (hint: regex) to split SQL statements by their semicolon, but it should ignore semicolons in single and double quotes strings. http://www.dev-explorer.com/articles/multiple-mysql-queries has a very nice regex to do that, but doesn't support double quotes. I'd be happy to hear your suggestions.

• what service to restart for /var/log/auth.log to start

  Here is a situation since the log files on my server had grown to several Gigabytes I took a backup of directory /var/log and then manually when to each subdirectory of /var/log and the files which were big in size I did cat > /var/log/file_which_is_big press 2 times enter key (basically over wrote those files with a blank space) and then Ctrl+C So basically I over wrote those files to be blank. Now when I open /var/log/auth.log I don't see any entry (which is expected also since I over wrote) but when I exit the SSH session and login again then also I do not see any entry in auth.log is there any way other than rebooting the machine to make sure I keep getting the entries in /var/log/auth.log I am not sure which service writes in this file. This is a Ubuntu 10.04 server.

• Desktop.ini Issues/Confusion

  BACKSTORY: I was out of town for a while and I forgot to turn my computer off. When I came back I saw that a desktop.ini file was on my desktop (using Windows 7). I thought that was odd because I knew it was a system file and it usually didn't show up due to the fact that I had disable the feature to show system files. Also it wasn't translucent like the other system files. I went to my control panel and saw that the "Hide protected operating system files" was indeed enabled. This puzzled me so I disabled the setting and another one was on my desktop like it usually is hidden. So now I have to desktop.ini files on my desktop: one hidden and one not hidden. I am doing an antivirus check to see if anything was going on and I will give an update soon. I am pretty sure these files are harmless and could be deleted but I would rather get another person's opinion on the subject. Thanks! UPDATE: I did an anti-virus scan and it seems I have no problems. It is odd because the file seems to maintain system file properties such as not being able to be edited and other things. Also I have tried restarting my computer and it is still not hidden. So the question remains: What should I do with the file and what caused it?

We are looking for something that will provide the following functionality (or achieve the same result, i.e. a cost-effective backup strategy for files stored in Rackspace Cloud Files): Work out which files have been added to or modified in a Rackspace Cloud account (since the last backup). Create a ZIP (or similar) of these files and store them in Amazon Glacier. Keep a record of which files are in which ZIPs. Ideally, restore either a single file or all files from Glacier back into Rackspace.
