• Is it possible to view two files simultaneously in Geany?

  I tend to be a simple text editor user, but when I want IDE-like features, I've been using Geany. One thing I find bothersome about it, though, is I can see only one file at a time. Sometimes I want to edit a .cpp file while looking at a .hpp file (or two) without flipping back and forth trying to memorize code. (Of course the easy answer is to try a different IDE, but if I want to stick with geany for some good reason...then what?)

• Wiping a laptop from Bios

  I am trying to wipe an old laptops hard drive, it doesn't have a CD drive so have been using a USB to try and wipe the hard drive from the BIOS. I have been using http://www.dban.org/ which I installed as an ISO on the USB Stick. When ever I try to boot into this I get an error saying 'No operating system' Does anyone know of a way to wipe a hard drive? I also tried to boot into safe mode but I just stay on a constant loop.   Does anyone have experience running Xen dom0 on a more recent kernel than the stock 2.6.18? What host distro are you running? What release of Xen (or hg/git changeset)? What set of patches are you using on kernel source? (Has anyone got the pvops dom0 stuff working in production or is it better to stick with something like the SUSE patches? Any other tips and tricks to running a more recent kernel version as dom0 would be helpful.

  What's the best way to keep packages up-to-date (ie with the last security fixes) without worried about major version update ?   I have Linux installed on my harddrive, sometimes I run it as the host operating system and sometimes run it as a guest in Windows using VirtualBox. It's a nice ability, I think. I don't think it's possible with Windows though. Is it because your average distribution includes drivers for everything known to man? Is there a way to view the history of Yum packages that have been updated/installed/removed ? I could use the "history" command from unix, but some installations may have been done with different accounts. I've tried searching the web and reading the man page too but haven't found anything.

  I am looking to release and renew my IP address in OS X 10.4 using Terminal. Essentially, I need the OS X equivalent of Windows: C:\ ipconfig /release C:\ ipconfig /renew However, I need the interface to remain active during this process, so using ifconfig down/up will not work. I believe I can clear the IP with ifconfig delete but I'm not sure how to get the dhcp client to reassign the address. An article from 2002 suggests using set dhcp but Apple's ifconfig man page does not include this information.

  I use Windows 7's command prompt (cmd.exe) for various tasks. In order to copy text from it, I right click and choose Mark, and then mark the text I want to copy. Sometimes while doing this, the marking doesn't stick. The minute I release the left mouse button after marking the text, the marking disappears. This has happened on every Windows 7 installation I've ever installed. How do I solve this?

  So I just recently installed Ubuntu Linux 10.04 on my desktop machine alongside Windows 7, it booted just fine the first few times but after I went into my Windows 7 recovery software provided by Packard Bell (I did this on accident BTW I exited it straight away and made no changes as far as I know) and re-booted I get this screen: error: no such partition grub rescue>_ PS: I have installed it on a USB stick using the ISO on the official Ubuntu website.

The group exists root@a:~# addgroup staff addgroup: The group `staff' already exists. The man page says this should work... adduser [options] user group Any ideas? I can do: adduser --ingroup staff rick So no massive issue, just seems strange.
