  Hi, I'm trying to write an application using Bluetooth on Android 1.6. Since it's not officially supported, I found the backport of android.bluetooth API ( http://code.google.com/p/backport-android-bluetooth ). But when I deploy the sample chat application (modified for backport) LogCat gives me the error below: My question is, how I can use backport-android-bluetooth on 1.6 and is there any working samples? • Android SDK emulator freezes on a Mac running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

  I'm having trouble running the Android SDK on both of my Macs running OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. This appears to be a 64 bit vs. 32 bit issue, as Snow Leopard now defaults to 64-bit everything, including the Java virtual machine. I found this webpage with instructions on how to get the Android tools to run in the 32-bit Java VM, and I am now able to run the Android GUI tool to download SDK files, create AVM's, etc. However, when I try the Hello World tutorial and get to the point where I run my application under the Android emulator, everything goes south. The emulator appears to start but it hangs (spinning beachball of death cursor) without displaying anything. (This only hangs the emulator; the rest of the system still works fine.) If I follow the exact same steps (minus the 32-bit java hack) in a Windows virtual machine, everything works fine. Googling didn't yield anything useful (except for the 32-bit java hack I spoke of earlier). This occurs on both my Mac Pro tower and 13" MacBook Pro. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  I'm embedding a Flash video into an HTML and would like the user to have to click it to begin playing. According to the Adobe <object> / <embed> element documentation, there are variety of methods to do this: 1) Add a Flash parameter inside the <object> tag: <param name="play" value="false"> 2) Add the attribute play inside the <embed> tag: <embed ... play="false"> 3) Add the attribute flashvars inside the <embed> tag: <embed ... flashvars="play=false"> Which is awesome. • Embedded pdf object steals focus and will not let it go

  Hi guys, I was given the task of adding some usability to one of our applications, ie. make sure that every controll has a shortcut key, and that they can be reached by "tabbing" through the page. The gui runs in a IE. control on a winform, and consists of asp.net pages, so basically it is just asp.net always running in internet explorer. My problem is that one of the pages has an embeded pdf in it, like so: <object tabindex="-1" height="273" width="663" visible="false" type="Application/pdf" data="showpdf.ashx#navpanes=0"></object> showpdf.ashx is an httphandler, that streams the pdf contents to the response. It does not handle focus in any way. Now when I run this page, the pdf application steals focus, no matter what I do to set it to another control. And when it takes focus, I cannot take it back with the keyboard. Only a mouseclick on the page will set it to another control. I have tried to set focus in code behind OnPreRender, or in jevescript, but no luck. It seems that the http handler always runs after all the other code, and it sets focus on the pdf object. Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi all, I have migrated from log4j to logback and also am transitioning to Glassfish from Jetty. I haven't updated my logback configuration from what I had used with Jetty and consequently am not seeing any logs being written. What logging provider should I use? Should I just do my configuration with the Glassfish loggers in domain.xml? <access-log rotation-interval-in-minutes="15" rotation-suffix="yyyy-MM-dd"/> <log-service file="${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/logs/server.log" log-rotation-limit-in-bytes="2000000"> <module-log-levels/> </log-service> These are the defaults in domain.xml. I'd like to split the longs up into several files as well as control log level for each package. I think I can figure out how to configure them, but should I use Glassfish logging or can I use logback? Walter

• Popover with embedded navigation controller doesn't respect size on back nav

  I have a UIPopoverController hosting a UINavigationController, which contains a small hierarchy of view controllers. I followed the docs and for each view controller, I set the view's popover-context size like so: [self setContentSizeForViewInPopover:CGSizeMake(320, 500)]; (size different for each controller) This works as expected as I navigate forward in the hierarchy-- the popover automatically animates size changes to correspond to the pushed controller. However, when I navigate "Back" through the view stack via the navigation bar's Back button, the popover doesn't change size-- it remains as large as the deepest view reached. This seems broken to me; I'd expect the popover to respect the sizes that are set up as it pops through the view stack. Am I missing something? Thanks.

• Sun-JRE on CentOS-4.8 RPM error: post-install scriptlet failed, exit status 5

  I have a server with CentOS 4.8 installed. The provided is rubbish, but there's only a few months left, and they're busy being sued by Chase bank, so I doubt I can get CentOS 5. I wiped the server clean using Virtuozzo, and found that the default image is VERY empty. I even had to install yum myself. I've reached the point where I want to install TomCat. I downloaded the Sun JRE as a .rpm.bin file, did chmod a+x and ran it. • Embedded ZXing - what am I missing?

  Hi all, Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am trying to make an application that will include the ability to scan barcodes on Android. I'm looking at using ZXing as the library, however, I want to embed the scanner in my application so that the user doesn't have to have the ZXing barcode scanner installed to use my application. From the description of ZXing, it sounds like this is possible. I've gotten as far as building ZXing, linking it into my project in Eclipse, then creating a new reader instance. However, I'm lost when it comes to starting the barcode reader and implementing the callbacks. IMO, this is when the documentation here gets hazy. If someone could explain how to use ZXing properly, that would be of great help. Cheers!

Go to $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/user_projects/domains/base_domain/bin  and execute . ./setDomainEnv.sh Collect the following information required to run the script: The JNDI name of the JMS queue to use In the WebLogic server console > Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > Module name, (e.g. TestJMSModule) > JMS queue name, (e.g. TestJMSQueue) select the queue and note its JNDI name, e.g. jms/TestJMSQueue The JNDI name of the connection factory to use to connect to the queue Follow the same path as above to get the connection factory for the above queue, e.g. TestConnectionFactory and its JNDI name e.g. jms/TestConnectionFactory The URL and port of the WebLogic server running the above queue Check the JMS server for the above queue and the managed server it is targeted to, for example soa_server1.   Hi, I have a problem in executing the Bayesian algorithm in Mahout. I built it with Maven and the job file is in target directory.   I'm trying to use jQuery to insert HTML into a table element. I've been messing variations of the selector (below) with no luck. Can someone help me? • Telling a UITextField to become first responder while embedded in a UITableViewCell

  I have a UITextField that is a subview of a UITableViewCell. When my view loads, I want the text field to become first responder. I have a pointer to the text field in the table cell, so to do this I am trying: [myTextField becomeFirstResponder]; This returns NO all the time, regardless of when it's called, which according to the docs means the text field refused to become first responder... What am I doing wrong? Edit: The text field properly responds to being touched. It bring up the keyboard then. It's only when telling it to become first responder programmatically that the problem happens.

• Playing dynamically embedded sound object via Javascript

  I need to background load some WAV files for an HTML page using AJAX. I use AJAX to get the details of the WAV files, then use the embed tag, and I can confirm that the files have loaded successfully because when I set autostart to true, the files play. However, I need the files to play only when the user clicks on a button (or an event is fired). There are no errors, and the code just returns. I would have left it at that (that is - I would have convinced the client to convert all WAV's to MP3 and use MooTools). But I realized that I could play the sound files, which were not dynamically embeded. Thus, the same soundPlay function would work for a file embeded in the following manner: <embed src="/media/sounds/hug_sw1.wav" id="sound2" width="0" heigh="0" autostart="false" enablejavascript="true"/> anywhere within the HTML. And it plays well in all the browsers. Anyone have a clue on this? Is this some sort of undocumented security restriction in all the browsers? (Please remember that the files do get preloaded dynamically, as I can confirm by setting the autostart property to true - They all play). Any help appreciated.

• Movement and Collision with AABB

  I'm having a little difficulty figuring out the following scenarios. http://i.stack.imgur.com/8lM6i.png In scenario A, the moving entity has fallen to (and slightly into the floor). The current position represents the projected position that will occur if I apply the acceleration & velocity as usual without worrying about collision. The Next position, represents the corrected projection position after collision check. The resulting end position is the falling entity now rests ON the floor--that is, in a consistent state of collision by sharing it's bottom X axis with the floor's top X axis. My current update loop looks like the following: // figure out forces & accelerations and project an objects next position // check collision occurrence from current position -> projected position // if a collision occurs, adjust projection position Which seems to be working for the scenario of my object falling to the floor. However, the situation becomes sticky when trying to figure out scenario's B & C. In scenario B, I'm attempt to move along the floor on the X axis (player is pressing right direction button) additionally, gravity is pulling the object into the floor. The problem is, when the object attempts to move the collision detection code is going to recognize that the object is already colliding with the floor to begin with, and auto correct any movement back to where it was before. In scenario C, I'm attempting to jump off the floor. Again, because the object is already in a constant collision with the floor, when the collision routine checks to make sure moving from current position to projected position doesn't result in a collision, it will fail because at the beginning of the motion, the object is already colliding. How do you allow movement along the edge of an object? How do you allow movement away from an object you are already colliding with. Extra Info My collision routine is based on AABB sweeping test from an old gamasutra article, http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3383/simple_intersection_tests_for_games.php?page=3 My bounding box implementation is based on top left/bottom right instead of midpoint/extents, so my min/max functions are adjusted. • Need to find jni.h in cmake on Mac

  I am trying to make VTK compile on a Mac Air machine. I am using CMake 2.8-9, using Xcode4 as the generator. If I press the Configure button with VTK_WRAP_JAVA not checked, it will go with no errors. However I definitely need to use the wrap java since my main program is in Java and I need to get to VTK which is c++. As soon as I check the wrap Java, I get Could NOT find JNI. It apparently is looking for jni.h which in Linux there is no problem finding, but in the Mac it apparently can't find it. I did a locate jni.h and got new-host-2:~ geraldkolodny$ locate jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_07.jdk/Contents/Home/include/jni.h I tried to manually put into JAVA_INCLUDE_PATH2 either entry 2 or 3 (without the jni.h at the end), but it still can't find jni.h. • C++ Swig Python (Embedded Python in C++) works in Release but not in Debug

  Platform: Windows 7, 64 bit (x64), Visual Studio 2008 I chose Python & Swig binding as the scripting environment of the application. As a prototype, created a simple VS solution with main() which initializes Python (Py_Initalize, Py_setPyHome, etc) & executes test.py. In the same solution created another project which is a DLL of a simple class. Used SWIG to wrap this class. This DLL is the _MyClasses.pyd. test.py creates the objects of my class & calls its member functions. All this works like a charm in the Release mode. But does not work in Debug mode (even tried banging my head on the laptop ;-) ). Output of my work looks like this (in both release & debug): x64 -debug - _MyClasses.pyd - MyClasses.py - test.exe - test.py - python26.dll - python26_d.dll Note that the debug version is linked against python26_d.lib. Had to build python myself for this! test.py import MyClasses print "ello" m = MyClasses.Male("John Doe", 25) print m.getType() Male is the C++ class. • Android: RTL support - digits embedded in a right to left sentence (Hebrew)

  Hi There, My application displays Hebrew text which comes from a Web Service. When a sentence contains digits (in the middle of it), the digits appear in a mirror view: 29 appears as 92, 21:45 appears as 54:12 and 2,000 appears as 000,2. Also, when a sentence starts with digits or English characters, they get thrown to the end of the sentence messing it all up... Does anyone have an idea how can this be solved? Ive searched online, and I've seen a few examples, but I can't seem to get it working right. i've tried the example on here but I can't seem to get everything working. On code execution, all the code is hit, and i've put several system.out.println's to get ouput of what is happening (the code above has been cleaned for presentation), and i even see the elements getting bound to the controller, yet it doesn't pick up controller events. As far as EXACTLY what's wrong, that I don't know, because I've followed all implementations i can find of this, and none of them seem to do anything it's like the input is just getting thrown out. None of the objects from niftyGui appear to be recognizing any input. • Adding SSE support in Java EE 8

  SSE (Server-Sent Event) is a standard mechanism used to push, over HTTP, server notifications to clients.  SSE is often compared to WebSocket as they are both supported in HTML 5 and they both provide the server a way to push information to their clients but they are different too! See here for some of the pros and cons of using one or the other. For REST application, SSE can be quite complementary as it offers an effective solution for a one-way publish-subscribe model, i.e. a REST client can 'subscribe' and get SSE based notifications from a REST endpoint. As a matter of fact, Jersey (JAX-RS Reference Implementation) already support SSE since quite some time (see the Jersey documentation for more details). There might also be some cases where one might want to use SSE directly from the Servlet API. Sending SSE notifications using the Servlet API is relatively straight forward. To give you an idea, check here for 2 SSE examples based on the Servlet 3.1 API.  We are thinking about adding SSE support in Java EE 8 but the question is where as there are several options, in the platform, where SSE could potentially be supported: the Servlet API the WebSocket API JAX-RS or even having a dedicated SSE API, and thus a dedicated JSR too! Santiago Pericas-Geertsen (JAX-RS Co-Spec Lead) conducted an initial investigation around that question. You can find the arguments for the different options and Santiago's findings here. So at this stage JAX-RS seems to be a good choice to support SSE in Java EE. This will obviously be discussed in the respective JCP Expert Groups but what is your opinion on this question?
