  • Contenteditable text editor and cursor position

    - by Cal S
How can I (using jquery or other) insert html at the cursor/caret position of my contenteditable div: <div contenteditable="true">Hello world</div> For example, if the cursor/caret was between "hello" and "world" and the user then clicked a button, eg "insert image", then using javascript, something like <img src=etc etc> would be inserted between "hello" and "world". I hope I've made this clear =S Example code would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!

  • anchor and onclick with asp.net postback

    - by EduardoMello
I have a link like this <a href="#thumb" id="ctl00_allContent_btnThumb" onclick="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$allContent$btnThumb','')"><img alt="" src="../../images/bullet-thumb.gif"></a> On Firefox it does what it supposed to. But it won't work on IE or Chrome. I know there are some questions on the subject here, but they haven't helped me. I'm guessing it's more specific since it envolves ASP.NET postback. thank you

  • How is IE7 any better than IE6?

    - by Raul Agrait
Oftentimes in the web development community, you hear people complaining about developing for IE6. However, if you are developing using a robust JavaScript framework like jQuery, is developing for IE6 any different than developing for IE7?

  • How do I code a comment box on my blog?

    - by Malcolm
Obviously, I am a novice web designer. I'm using php and sql to do all the under-the-hood stuff, but I want a visually appealing as well as functional comment system. Right now I am just using HTML forms but they don't look very good. Should I be using javascript? Any tips to get me started?

  • So what if custom HTML attributes aren't valid XHTML?

    - by Constantine
I know that is the reason some people don't approve of them, but does it really matter? I think that the power that they provide, in interacting with JavaScript and storing and sending information from and to the server, outweighs the validation concern. Am I missing something? What are the ramifications of "invalid" HTML? And wouldn't a custom DTD resolve them anyway?

  • Count words like Microsoft Word does

    - by Maarten
I need to count words in a string using PHP or Javascript (preferably PHP). The problem is that the counting needs to be the same as it works in Microsoft Word, because that is where the people assemble their original texts in so that is their reference frame. PHP has a word counting function (http://php.net/manual/en/function.str-word-count.php) but that is not 100% the same as far as I know. Any pointers?

  • What are the benefits of prototypal inheritance over classical?

    - by Pierreten
So I finally stopped dragging my feet all these years and decided to learn JavaScript "properly". One of the most head-scratching elements of the languages design is it's implementation of inheritance. Having experience in Ruby, I was really happy to see closures and dynamic typing; but for the life of me can't figure out what benefits are to be had from object instances using other instances for inheritance.

  • id vs class selection benchmark

    - by zaf
Has anybody bench marked selecting elements with id's and class's from CSS and javascript? It would make sense that an element with an id is faster to select than if it had a class even if it was the only element with that class. Do I really need to be concerned?

  • can't add a custom marker to Google maps ( JS )

    - by user296516
Hi, Was wondering, how do I add a custom marker to google maps, JavaScript, integrated into my site. This code adds a regular marker: var marker = new GMarker(center); map.addOverlay(marker); but where do I insert an image tag (say, "marker.png" ) for it to appear instead of the regular google marker? Thanks!

  • Checking For Word Wrap In Table Column

    - by Sparafusile
I'm writing part of a web page that allows a user to build a table and fill it with information. In the course of building the table, the user will be adding additional columns with headers. I'd like to code it so when the combined width of all the headers causes one of them to wrap that the table columns switch to using vertical text (writing-mode: tb-rl). Is there any way, using JavaScript, to determine if the contents of a specific cell have wrapped? Thanks, Spara

  • Regex to match card code input

    - by kate
How can I write a regex to match strings following these rules? 1 letter followed by 4 letters or numbers, then 5 letters or numbers, then 3 letters or numbers followed by a number and one of the following signs: ! & @ ? I need to allow input as a 15-character string or as 3 groups of 5 chars separated by one space. I'm implementing this in JavaScript.

  • Stopping infinite loops of alerts in Mozilla

    - by Christy John
This may be dumb question. But somehow this engaged me for sometime and after some basic research I couldn't find an answer. I was learning JavaScript and a code I wrote had an error and has been outputting infinite loops of alerts. I tried the normal shortcuts like Ctrl + C and Ctrl + Z but they didn't work. So I was thinking if there is any solution to this other than ending the browser process (like by doing a Ctrl + Alt + Del).

  • Stubhub like map in HTML5?

    - by Switz
I have an image of a floor plan. Best way to think if it is a hotel floor plan. (Similar to how stubhub does their ticket maps) I want the user to select rooms. Instead of slicing each room in Photoshop, is there a way to split up the image in HTML5 canvas or Javascript. Would like to avoid flash. Thanks for the responses! example: http://adamsaewitz.com/housing/housing.html (top left rooms, hover)

  • Jquery $().each method obscures 'this' keyword

    - by Jeff Fritz
I am creating a Javascript object that contains a function that executes a jQuery each method like the following: function MyClass { Method1 = function(obj) { // Does something here } Method2 = function() { $(".SomeClass").each(function() { // 1 2 this.Method1(this); }); } } Which object is each THIS referring to? jQuery is referring to the item returned from the each iteration. However, I would like This[1] to refer to the containing class... How can I refer to the containing class from within the jQuery loop?
