• Inserting a very long Excel table into Word

  I have a very long excel (2003) s/sheet with in excess of 600 rows that I want to paste into an MS Word document (also 2003). However, I want to ensure that: 1) The header row appears automatically at the top of each page. 2) The s/sheet automatically formats to the correct page width (the one I have is slightly wider than my Word page). This can obviously be done manually by cutting and pasting each page seperately but this is very laborious and time consuming and I once saw somebody achieve this automatically (maybe with a macro) but have been unable to locate them, or the methodology. • DropDownList not updating value

  Hello, I posted a question earlier but have another problem after making those changes. The previous thread can be found here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2700028/binding-a-dropdownlist-inside-a-detailsview Basically, I've got a dropdownlist that's dynamically populated with a list of regions. It selects the correct region when viewing the dropdown, but when I try to edit it changes the value to null. I think it might be because it doesn't know which field to update. Previously, when the dropdown list was hardcoded, I had SelectedValue='<%# Bind("region_id")%' set on the dropdown list, and when I updated it worked fine. However, I had to move the setting of the selected value into the code behind and now it just gets set to null every time I update. • Populating fields in modal form using PHP, jQuery

  I have a form that adds links to a database, deletes them, and -- soon -- allows the user to edit details. I am using jQuery and Ajax heavily on this project and would like to keep all control in the same page. In the past, to handle editing something like details about another website (link entry), I would have sent the user to another PHP page with form fields populated with PHP from a MySQL database table. How do I accomplish this using a jQuery UI modal form and calling the details individually for that particular entry? • How to check for mutual existence of Fields in same table in Two columns

  I tried using "Exist" and "IN". Not only did I not succeed, it didn't seem as an efficient solution. Here is a simplified example: TblMyTable WorkerUserName  -  WorkerDegree  -  ManagerUserName  -  ManagerDegree I need a query where there is a mutual connection / existence. What I mean is only where the worker, ex. "John" has a manager named "Mary", and where Mary the manager has a worker named "John". John the worker can have several managers and Mary the manager can have several workers. So the result will be (the order doesn't matter) ideally in one line: John - BSc  --  Mary - M.A. or Mary - M.A.  --  John - BSc The punchline is it's only one table. it is not really managers and workers, this is just a simplification of the situation. In the real situation both are equal, in a Table of names of users working with other users. Database is SQL 2005. Many thanx in advance

  I'm trying to use S#arp architecture... which includes Fluent NHibernate I'm newbie with (and with NHibernate too, frankly speaking). Auto mapping is used. So I have this: public class UserAction : Entity { public UserAction() { } [DomainSignature] [NotNull, NotEmpty] public virtual string Name { get; set; } [NotNull, NotEmpty] public virtual string TypeName { get; private set; } } public class UserActionMap : IAutoMappingOverride<UserAction> { public void Override(AutoMap<UserAction> mapping) { mapping.WithTable("ProgramComponents", m => m.Map(x => x.TypeName)); } } Now, table UserActions references table ProgramComponents (many to one) and I want property UserAction.TypeName to have value from db field ProgramComponents.TypeName. However, the above code fails with NHibernate.MappingException: Duplicate property mapping of TypeName found in OrderEntry3.Core.UserAction As far as I understand the problem is that TypeName is already auto-mapped... but I haven't found a way to remove the automatic mapping. Actually I think that my WithTable/Map mapping has to replace the automatic TypeName mapping, but seems like it does not. I also tried different mapping (names are different but that's all the same): mapping.WithTable("ProgramComponents", m => m.References<ProgramComponent>( x => x.Selector, "ProductSelectorID" ) and still get the same error. I can overcome this with mapping.HasOne<ProgramComponent>(x => x.Selector); but that's not what I exactly wants to do. And I still wonder why the first two methods do not work. I suspect this is because of WithTable.

  I'm downloaded WIPmania's worldip table from http://www.wipmania.com/en/base/ -- the table has 3 fields and around 79k rows: startip // example: 3363110912 endip // example: 3363112063 country // example: AR (Argentina) So, lets suppose i'm in Argentina and my IP address is: 200.117.248.17 1) I use this function to convert my ip to long function ip_address_to_number($ip) { if(!$ip) { return false; } else { $ip = split('\.',$ip); return($ip[0]*16777216 + $ip[1]*65536 + $ip[2]*256 + $ip[3]); } } 2) I search for the proper country code by matching the long converted ip: $sql = 'SELECT * FROM worldip WHERE '.ip_address_to_number($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']).' BETWEEN startip AND endip'; which is equivalent to: SELECT country FROM worldip WHERE 3363174417 BETWEEN startip AND endip (benchmark: Showing rows 0 - 0 (1 total, Query took 0.2109 sec)) Now comes the real question. What if another bunch of argentinian guys also open the website and they all have these ip addresses: 200.117.248.17 200.117.233.10 200.117.241.88 200.117.159.24 Since i'm caching all the sql queries; instead of matching EACH of the ip queries in the database, would it be better (and right) just to match the 2 first sections of the ip by modifying the function like this? function ip_address_to_number($ip) { if(!$ip) { return false; } else { $ip = split('\.',$ip); return($ip[0]*16777216 + $ip[1]*65536); } } (notice that the 3rd and 4th splitted values of the IP have been removed). That way instead of querying these 4 values: 3363174417 3363170570 3363172696 3363151640 ...all i have to query is: 3363110912 (which is 200.117.0.0 converted to long). Is this right? any other ideas to optimize this process? Thanks!

  Django's post_save signal behaves weirdly with models using multi-table inheritance I am noticing an odd behavior in the way Django's post_save signal works when using a model that has multi-table inheritance. I have these two models: class Animal(models.Model): category = models.CharField(max_length=20) class Dog(Animal): color = models.CharField(max_length=10) I have a post save callback called echo_category: def echo_category(sender, **kwargs): print "category: '%s'" % kwargs['instance'].category post_save.connect(echo_category, sender=Dog) I have this fixture: [ { "pk": 1, "model": "animal.animal", "fields": { "category": "omnivore" } }, { "pk": 1, "model": "animal.dog", "fields": { "color": "brown" } } ] In every part of the program except for in the post_save callback the following is true: from animal.models import Dog Dog.objects.get(pk=1).category == u'omnivore' # True When I run syncdb and the fixture is installed, the echo_category function is run. The output from syncdb is: $ python manage.py syncdb --noinput Installing json fixture 'initial_data' from '~/my_proj/animal/fixtures'. category: '' Installed 2 object(s) from 1 fixture(s) The weird thing here is that the dog object's category attribute is an empty string. Why is it not 'omnivore' like it is everywhere else? As a temporary (hopefully) workaround I reload the object from the database in the post_save callback: def echo_category(sender, **kwargs): instance = kwargs['instance'] instance = sender.objects.get(pk=instance.pk) print "category: '%s'" % instance.category post_save.connect(echo_category, sender=Dog) This works but it is not something I like because I must remember to do it when the model inherits from another model and it must hit the database again. The other weird thing is that I must do instance.pk to get the primary key. The normal 'id' attribute does not work (I cannot use instance.id). I do not know why this is. Maybe this is related to the reason why the category attribute is not doing the right thing?

If i turn off "display:table-cell;" style in Firebug and then turn it back on, it fixes that menu node. any ideas? p.s.: i don't want to mess with the menu itself, since it's a part of a DNN Forum 4.4.3. I'd rather fix the CSS to make it show correctly.

• Problem with PHP 'PHP_SELF'

  I am having a bit of trouble. It does not seem to be a big deal, but I have created a page that the user can edit a MySQL database. Once they click submit it should process the php within the if statement and echo 1 record updated. The problem is that it does not wait to echo the statement. It just seems to ignore the way I wrote my if and display the whole page. • Making one table equal to another without a delete *

  Hey, I know this is bit of a strange one but if anyone had any help that would be greatly appreciated. The scenario is that we have a production database at a remote site and a developer database in our local office. Developers make changes directly to the developer db and as part of the deployment process a C# application runs and produces a series of .sql scripts that we can execute on the remote side (essentially delete *, insert) but we are looking for something a bit more elaborate as the downtime from the delete * is unacceptable. This is all reference data that controls menu items, functionality etc of a major website. I have a sproc that essentially returns a diff of two tables. My thinking is that I can insert all the expected data in to a tmp table, execute the diff, and drop anything from the destination table that is not in the source and then upsert everything else. The question is that is there an easy way to do this without using a cursor? To illustrate the sproc returns a recordset structured like this: TableName Col1 Col2 Col3 Dest Src Anything in the recordset with TableName = Dest should be deleted (as it does not exist in src) and anything in Src should be upserted in to dest. I cannot think of a way to do this purely set based but my DB-fu is weak. Any help would be appreciated. Apologies if the explanation is sketchy; let me know if you need anymore details.

• weird routes automatically being added to windows routing table

  On our windows 2003 domain, with XP clients, we have started seeing routes appearing in the routing tables on both the servers and the clients. The route is a /32 for another computer on the domain. The route gets added when one windows computer connects to another computer and needs to authenticate. For example, if computer A with ip 10.0.1.5/24 browses the c: drive of computer B with ip 10.0.2.5/24, a static route will get added on computer B like so: dest netmask gateway interface 10.0.1.5 255.255.255.255 10.0.2.1 10.0.2.5 This also happens on windows authenticated SQL server connections. It does not happen when computers A and B are on the same subnet. None of the servers have RIP or any other routing protocols enabled, and there are no batch files etc setting routes automatically. There is another windows domain that we manage with a near identical configuration that is not exhibiting this behaviour. The only difference with this domain is that it is not up to date with its patches. Is this meant to be happening? Has anyone else seen this? Why is it needed when I have perfectly good default gateways set on all the computers on the domain?!

• Saving a record in Authlogic table

  I am using authlogic to do my authentication. The current model that serves as the authentication model is the user model. I want to add a "belongs to" relationship to user which means that I need a foreign key in the user table. Say the foreign key is called car_id in the user's model. However, for some reason, when I do u = User.find(1) u.car_id = 1 u.save! I get ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid: Validation failed: Password can't be blank My guess is that this has something to do with authlogic. I do not have validation on password on the user's model.
