  • WCF performance improvements

    I am developing a WPF application that talks to a server via WCF services over the internet. After profiling the application I noticed a lot of time is being taking up by creating the appropriate WCF client proxy and making the call to the server. The code on the server is optimised and doesn't take any time to run yet I am still seeing a 1.5 second delay from when a service is invloked to it returning to the client. A few points to give a bit of background: I am using the ASP.Net membership for security I will eventually hook into the same server side code through a website I would eventually like to have offline support in the application I really need to nail the performance early though as if the app is taking a couple of seconds to come back it is too long for what I am trying to do. Can anyone suggest performance tips that will help me please?

  • Grouping problem with postback in SPGridview

    I have a SPGridView with a custom CheckBox Template in it. To access the value of the checkbox I have created the SPGridView in Page_Init method. It was working fine. I also have grouping in the grid. It was working fine till I made any postback in the page. To overcome that I created my own custom GridView and overrided the LoadControlState event. Now the problem is when I use this Custom Grid in my page the LoadControlState event occurs after the Init event and hence the grid doesnt render on the page. When i keep it in Page_Load it works fine but my custom checkbox template creates a problem then. How do I get both the custom Checkbox Template and grouping with postback in the SPGridview working properly??? Please help as this is really getting me stuck.........

  • Data in custom attribute not returned in UserProfile object in MOSS

    I've created two new custom attributes in the UserProfile. When the service we wrote returns data about a specific user by using the UserProfile object, sometimes the data isn't returned, even though if we look at the user in SSP it look populated. Some users work; this is the first user we set up with data. I'm not sure if sometime in the meantime after setting up the first user and testing, if there's something we ran and need to run again. How can I get all the users to get their data returned in a call to their UserProfile?

  • Using Silverlight 4 with ODBC

    I'm completely new to Silverlight and I want to connect to a Netezza database with an ODBC connection and pull records to display nicely in Silverlight. What's the easiest way to do this? From some research, it seems creating a WCF RIA service is what most people do ( http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/354715/Creating-a-WCF-RIA-Services-Class-Library-for-a-Si ) but the process seems a bit convoluted. Coming from an ASP.net background, could I do something simpler like creating an ODBC connection in the code-behind (using System.Data.ODBC functionality), executing a query, storing the returned records in a Datatable and then binding that to some Silverlight control?

  • Install windows service "Service ... was not found on computer '.'."

    I'm trying to create my first Windows Service in C# VS2010 and slowly discover how I should do things. But now I have reached a point, where I cannot install a new version of my service. My setup program tells me Error 1001. Service MyService was not found on computer '.'. --> The specified service does not exists as an installed service. The last part of the message is translated into english from danish. I cannot see the service in either the service list (services.msc) or in the registry. I have removed the left overs from a previous installation, so no traces here either. I have emptied the temporary folder under my windows account. Where do I locate the rest of the remains obstructing my installation of the service?

  • Open protected web page passing in credentials programmatically

    I have code examples from some of my previous work that help me to post form values to a web page (login credentials) and retrieve the text from that page. Now I want to pass in form values (login credentials again) but actually open that web page in a browser given those credentials. How do I do that? I'm not doing anything nefarious. In our CRM app (home-grown as it is), I want to create a link button that opens our web site's protected products page given the user's credentials (based on the user's login credentials). Normally, I'd copy the user's credentials in our login page which then takes me to the products page. I'm trying to do this now by just clicking a link button. Any suggestions?

  • WCF Self-hosted service, client clean-up on service stop

    Hi everyone, I'm curious to know how I would go about setting up my service to stop cleanly on the server the service will be installed on. For example when I have many clients connecting and doing operations every minute and I want to shut-down the service for maintenance, how can I do this in the "OnStop" event of the service to then let the main service host to deny any new client connections and let the current connections finish before it actually shuts down its services to the client, this will ensure data isn't corrupted on the server as the server shuts down. Right now I'm not setup as a singleton because I need scalability in the service. So I would have to somehow get my service host to do this independently of knowing how many instances are created of the service class. I hope I explain myself good enough, if not, let me know, I'll try to explain better. Thanks, Scott

    Hi.. we have created a feature ,which have got 2 application pages. one is to activate the user control and the other one is for database configuration,for the database configuration the user have to give the .mdf and .ldf files to restore the database. For the restoration of database we have used microsoft.sqlserver.replication.dll, the feature is working fine, but when we deploy it on any other machine, at the time of activation it gives error, and the error is: Error: Cannot add the specified assembly to the global assembly cache: Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.dll.     Hello, I try to expose a database via ADO RIA for which we have only an ODBC based interface. The "database" is a server and new elements are developped all the time, so I would like the server to check metadata at start (using the odbc schema methods) and then expose what he finds via RIA services.... clients can the nregenerate when they need access to new elements. As such, I dont ahve any CLR types for all the tabled developped. ResourceType tableType = new ResourceType( typeof(object), ResourceTypeKind.EntityType, null, "Martini", table_name, false ); tableType.CanReflectOnInstanceType = false; I can somehow not put in NULl as CLR element type, and entering typeof(object) seems to result in reflection errors when trying to access the properties. Any documentation on how to do that? I dont really want to get into having types... though if I have to, I probably will dynamically generate some via bytecode emit.

    I'm trying to deploy some web services in a WAR application on JBoss 5.1.0. I have created the source files from an existing wsdl using JAX-WS tool wsgen. This created the Service files and @XmlType annotated clases that would act as request and response wrappers. This classes worked well on JBoss 4.2.3, but when moving to JBoss 5.1.0, I get this exception. java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: setProperty must be overridden by all subclasses of SOAPMessage My configuration: Windows XP SP3 (but getting the same on Vista, as well as on Linux) Sun JDK 1.6.0_17 JBoss 5.1.0 GA for jdk6 Thanks in advance!

  • Web service creates stack overflow

    I have an application that when executed as a windows application works fine, but when converted to a web service, in some instances (which were tested successfully) by the windows app) creates a stack overflow. Do you have an idea of what can cause this? (Note that it works fine when the web service is placed on the localhost). Could it be that the stack size of a Web Service is smaller than that of a Window Application? Has anyone been able to have this display correctly?     My company is considering working with another company on a particular module. Information would be sent back and forth between us through my web service. Thing is, my web service uses ASP.NET, and they use classic ASP. Everything I've found online says (it's a pain, but) they can communicate, but I'm not clear on some details. Specifically, do I have to enable GET and POST on my web service? If I don't have to, but could, would enabling them make the communication significantly easier/better? And finally, GET and POST are disabled by default because of security. What are the security risks involved in enabling them?

  • TFS and code coverage for web application (MVC) assemblies not working

    I've got an MVC web application with associated controller tests that run under a TFS build as per normal. I can see the tests running and passing in the build log and they appear in the "Result details for Any CPU/Release" section of the build I also have a number of other assemblies with associated tests that are running in the same build. Tests are passing and the details are being shown in the results and logs just fine. I've enabled code coverage in the build script and the testrunconfig. The coverage is appearing for all assemblies EXCEPT the web application even though it looks like the tests have been run for it. Is there anything obvious that I have missed or some sort of work around that I need to do? I've searched around for a while and haven't found an answer. Has anyone got code coverage working for MVC web applications?
