• Getting a null reference exception exporting a slightly complex rdlc report to excel

  Have an issue in exporting a slightly complex report to excel from an rdlc. Exporting a simple tabular report works fine, but getting a null reference exception with a more complex one. As is usually the case, it works on the server in the development environment, but not in the test environment. The server in the development environment has iis, sql and sql reporting services on it and test only has iis (I didn't set them up). I'm guessing there is something that gets installed with SSRS that is not installed with just the report viewer. The report has several parameters going into it and a few generic lists going in for datasources. Some tables for display as well as a list. Working with the 2005 version.   I'm getting this error while running my ASP.NET app on IIS7. I've tried doing what it says to do but it doesn't help. • How to let Tomcat publish WSDL for the WS it provides (CXF 2.2, Spring 3, Tomcat6)

  Hi, I am trying to implement a simple web service provider using Tomcat6, CXF 2.2, Spring 3, and actually the service itself runs fine (I can call web methods using the original WSDL and SoapUI). However, Tomcat returns a blank page on "?wsdl" requests. Also, when I try to manipulate the (would-be) published WSDL by adding a publishedEndpointURL property to the jaxws:endpoint element, Tomcat will issue a XML parse exception (something like property publishedEndpointURL is not allowed in element jaxws:endpoint) <jaxws:endpoint id="service" implementor="org.sample.ServiceImpl" implementorClass="org.sample.ServiceImpl" address="/service" publishedEndpointURL="http://localhost:8080/MyService/service"> I used "contract first" style.   Does anyone know if there is a valid roleManager I can apply to ASPDotNetStorefront to get the site working? We have a website that has an ASP.Net storefront served in a virtual folder off the root. ourwebsite.com ourwebsite.com/shop Everything has been workign fine until we put the groundwork in place for forms authentication in the website recently. This caused an error on the production server when you tried to get into the shop... Unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.Security.RolePrincipal' to type 'AspDotNetStorefrontCore.AspDotNetStorefrontPrincipal'. Looking at the shop's web.config I noticed there was no RoleManager node, so I tried to fix the problem by removing it in the shop's web.config <roleManager enabled="false"> </roleManager> This prevented the error occurring, but also prevented the shopping basket from working. Instead I removed the rolemanager tag from the root website... <!-- Conflicting with AspDotNetStorefront <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="CustomizedRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="CustomizedRoleProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlRoleProvider" connectionStringName="constr" /> </providers> </roleManager> --> This worked, but obviously prevents role authentication working on the root website, which is okay for the next 2 or 3 releases. • How to configure a WCF service to only accept a single client identified by a x509 certificate

  I have a WCF client/service app that relies on secure communication between two machines and I want to use use x509 certificates installed in the certificate store to identify the server and client to each other. I do this by configuring the binding as <security authenticationMode="MutualCertificate"/>. There is only client machine. The server has a certificate issued to server.mydomain.com installed in the Local Computer/Personal store and the client has a certificate issued to client.mydomain.com installed in the same place. In addition to this the server has the client's public certificate in Local Computer/Trusted People and the client has the server's public certificate in Local Computer/Trusted People. Finally the client has been configured to check the server's certificate. I did this using the system.servicemodel/behaviors/endpointBehaviors/clientCredentials/serviceCertificate/defaultCertificate element in the config file. So far so good, this all works. My problem is that I want to specify in the server's config file that only clients that identify themselves with the client.mydomain.com certificate from the Trusted People certificate store are allowed to connect. The correct information is available on the server using the ServiceSecurityContext, but I am looking for a way to specify in app.config that WCF should do this check instead of my having to check the security context from code. Is that possible? Any hints would be appreciated.   Hi, I am trying to develop a JAX WS web service with WS-Security features in WebLogic 10.3. I have used the ant tasks WSDLC, JWSC and ClientGen to generate skeleton/stub for this web service. I have two keystores namely WSIdentity.jks and WSTrust.jks which contains the keys and certificates. One of the alias of WSIdentity.jks is "ws02p".   Hi Guys, please help µe as I am new into accessing an unmanaged DLL from C#.. I have a large unmanaged DLL in C++ and I am trying to access the DLL's classes and functions from a C# Web Service. I have seen many examples how to use DLLImport, but for some reason I am stuck with my very first wrapper method spending many hours with no luck.. What should I do to return an object in my 'Marshaled' [DllImport..] function?   I got a web deyploment project for a web application project in vs 2008. While building the web deployment project, I want to replace properties in the web.config. My settings are autogenrated by the deisgner. <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>True</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> In the config file which contains the settings for the specific server looks like the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>False</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> Sadly, this does not work. I get an error "The format of a configSource file must be an element containing the name of the section" that highlights the second line (2nd example code). How must the Tag be named in order to make evertything work? Edit: Deleting the "applicationSetting"-Tags does not work either.

• restart of web dev server every time load ASP.NET MVC application

  Hi, I continously get this problem (stack trace below) when I start my ASP.NET MVC application and have to restart the web dev server and then it goes away. • WCF .svc Accessible Over HTTP But Accessing WSDL Causes "Connection Was Reset"

  I have a WCF service which is hosted on IIS6 on a Win2003 SP2 machine. The WCF service is hosting correctly and is visible over HTTP giving the usual "To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service" message. However accessing the .svc?WSDL link causes the connection to be reset. It works fine through the local dev server in VS2008 but fails after deployment. For further information, the targeted machine does not have a firewall (it's on the internal network) and the logs show the site thinks it's fine with 200 OK responses. I've also tried updating the endpoint with the full URL to my service however it still makes no difference. I have looked into some of the other options - creating a separate WSDL manually and exposing it through the metadata properties (really don't want to do that due to the maintenance issues). If anyone can offer any thoughts on this or any other workarounds it would be greatly appreciated.

• Using SoapExtensionAttributes on client side with async web methods

  Hey, I have a simple question. I implemented custom soap extension and registered it into client application configuration file. It works fine. (I would like to implement progress bar functionality like http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480520.aspx) But I don't like some thing - custom soap extension is invoked by every call of my web service. In order to fix this situation (call WS just by required methods) I implemented custom SoapExtensionAttribute like below: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method)] public class CustomSoapExtensionAttribute : SoapExtensionAttribute { public override int Priority { get; set; } public CustomSoapExtensionAttribute() : this (1) { } public CustomSoapExtensionAttribute(int priority) { Priority = priority; } public override Type ExtensionType { get { return typeof(CustomSoapExtension); } } } I added this attribute to required methods of web service proxy classes (and removed registration into client configuration file). My soap extension doesn't invoke when required web methods are calling. Can someone help me to solve this problem or select any other solution? • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14' Could not find stored procedure

  I am migrating a classic ASP web app to new servers. The database back end is migrating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008, and the app is moving from Win2000 x86 to Win2003R2 x64. I am getting the above error on every single stored procedure call within the application. I have verified: Yes, the SQL user is set up, using correct username and password Yes, the SQL user has execute permissions on the stored procedures in the database Yes, I have updated the TypeLib references to the new UUID Yes, I have logged into the database via SSMS with the SQL user id and it can see and execute the stored procedures just fine in SSMS, but not from the web app. Yes, the SQL user has the database set as its default database. The most frustrating thing is it works fine on the DEV server, but not on the production server. I have gone through every IIS setting 5 or 6 times and the web app is set up precisely the same in both environments. The only difference is the database server name in the connection string (DEV vs prod) EDIT: I have also tried pointing the prod web box at the dev database server and get the same error so I'm fairly sure the issue isn't on the database side.

  I have a custom authentication HttpModule that is pretty strait forward. But I want it to run only for managed requests (and not for static ones). Asp.net MVC automatically adds configuration section for IIS7 web server: <system.webServer> <validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" /> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> <remove name="ScriptModule" /> <remove name="UrlRoutingModule" /> <add name="ScriptModule" preCondition="managedHandler" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule,..." /> <add name="UrlRoutingModule" type="System.Web.Routing.UrlRoutingModule,..." /> </modules> <handlers> ... </handlers> </system.webServer> When I add my own module I also set its preCondition="managedHandler", but since there's runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" on parent <module> element my preCondition is ignored by design (as I read on MSDN). • C# client to Java web service

  I have received wsdl file from outside company. I'm using VS2005 c#. With wsdl.exe I have created class containing methods and types for the given web service. To connect to the service outside company requires that certificate from the smart card is inputed in the header. I think i have achieved this with service.ClientCertificates.Add("Path to exported cert" - at least for now, after probably later i will take it from Certificate Store When service is called there are three steps that are taken and visible by the Fidller(Web Debugging Proxy)). service is called on the url http://test.company.com/webservice.wsdl service redirects the request to certificate server and pin needs to be inputed to get cookie for the server service is again redirected to url http://test.company.com/webservice.wsdl At point 1. I can see that my request send to the server contains .... but at point 3. i can not see request` just a empty string. The exception is thrown Msg: Possible SOAP version mismatch: Envelope namespace http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/ was unexpected. Expecting http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/. Does somebody have an example how to connect to java web service with certificate and AlowRedirect enabled for the web service? Any ideas what i am doing wrong are more that welcome.

  I'm a .NET programming who is soon moving to the Java EE world. I have plenty of experience with .NET web technologies, web services, WebForms and MVC. I am also very familiar with the Java language, and have written a few servlets and modified a couple of JSP pages, but I haven't touched EE yet. I'd like to set up a public website using Java EE so I can familiarize myself with whats current. I'm thinking just a technology playground at this point with no particular purpose in mind. What Java technologies are the current hotness for this sort of thing? (For example, if someone asked me what I'd recommend learning to set up a new .NET site, I'd say use ASP MVC instead of WebForms and recommend LINQ-to-SQL as a quick, simple and widely used ORM.) So, what I'd like to know is: Is there a recommended technology for the presentation layer? Is JSP considered a good approach, or is there anything cleaner/newer/more widespread? Is Hibernate still widely used for persistence? Is it obsolete? Is there anything better out there? (I've worked with NHibernate some, so I wouldn't be starting from scratch.) Is cheap Java EE web hosting available? What should I know being a .NET web developer moving to the Java world?

• Static files in (Java) App Engine not accessible.

  The example documentation says that you simply need to place your files in war/ (or a subdirectory) and they should be accessible from the host (as long as they aren't JSPs or in WEB-INF). For example, if you place foo.css in war/ then you should be able to access it at http://localhost:8080/foo.css. However, this isn't working for me at all. NONE of my static files are accessible. The docs on appengine-web.xml say that you can also specifically denote certain types as static. I've tried this as well and it makes no difference. Am I missing something obvious? UPDATE: Turns out one of the mappings in my web.xml was a little too aggressive. The following was the culprit: <servlet> <servlet-name>Main</servlet-name> <servlet-class>MainServlet</servlet-class> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Main</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> It seems that it was grabbing everything that wasn't grabbed be one of the other rules, which I don't understand because there was no * on the end of the url-pattern. It also seems to be directly contradictory to the documentation that says: Note: Static files, files that are served verbatim to users such as images, CSS or JavaScript, are handled separately from paths mentioned in the deployment descriptor. A request for a URL path that matches a path to a file in the WAR that's considered a static file will serve the file, regardless of servlet and filter mappings in the deployment descriptor. You can exclude files from those treated as static files using the appengine-web.xml file. So, how can I have a rule that matches the base of my domain (eg. http://www.example.com/) and still allows the static files to filter through?

• Trouble implementing Singleton pattern in Tomcat web application due to Class Loader

  I'm trying to implement a Singleton in Tomcat 6.24 on Linux with x86_64 OpenJDK 1.6. My application is just a bunch of JSPs and some static content and the JSPs make calls to my Java code. I finally figured out if I exported my code as a jar and put it in $CATALINA_HOME/lib then there was only one instance, but this is not an elegant solution. I've been googling for hours, but I haven't come up with anything yet. I'm wondering if there is some other solution. Currently I'm not precompling my JSPs, could this be part of the problem? Could I write a servlet to ensure the singleton is created? If so how do I do that?

• if a JAR is placed on app servers's classpath how do we reference it from JSP

  On our application we are getting an error saying: PWC6117: File "/struts-tags" not found code in the file thats giving error is: <%@ taglib prefix="s" uri="/struts-tags" %> This file is in struts2-core.jar which is placed on the classpath of the app server (Sun 9.1). The code will work fine and not complain when the jar is actually in WEB-INF/lib of the application, compared to being on classpath of the appserver. But we can not change that. it has to be on appservers classpath. But how should we change our code so that this error goes away? I can create mapping in my web.xml so that tag uri's are change. but what should taglib-location be changed to? so that it references to app servers classpath? <taglib> <taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/struts-tags.tld</taglib-uri> <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/struts-tags.tld</taglib-location> </taglib>

• Which web framework or technologies would suit me?

  Hi, I had been working on desktop apps and server side(non web) for some time and now I am diving in to web first time. I plan to write a scalable enterprise level app. I have worked with Java, Javascript, Jquery etc. but I absolutely hate jsp. So is there any framework that focuses on developing enterprise level web apps without jsp. I liked Wicket's approach, but I think there is a little lack of support of dynamic html in it and jquery(yes i looked at wiquery). Also I feel making wicket apps scalable would take some sweat. Can Spring MVC, Struts2 etc. help me make with this with just using say Java, JavaScript, and JQuery. Or are there any other options for me like Wicket. Please do forgive if anything above looks insane, I am still working on my understanding with enterprise web apps. NOTE: If you think that I should take a different direction or approach, please do suggest!

  Hello, I get the following errors when I attempt video format conversions called from the local host: “An invalid media type was specified” for M4V to WMV conversions. “One or more arguments are invalid” for MP4 to WMV conversions. Here are the details of the problems: I’ve written a dll in C# that accepts videos in the formats AVI, WMV, M4V and MP4 and performs the following actions: Creates a copy of the input video in WMV format . Creates a WAV file of the input video audio portion. Creates a JPG image from a frame of the input video. I attached the dll to an ASP.NET web project that performs the dll actions. When tested through the developer studio, the actions are performed as intended for all formats. When I place the web project in place to be read when the local host is called through the web browser, the following behavior takes place: WMV format: All actions performed as intended. AVI format: Creates WMV file – OK Creates JPG image – OK Creates empty WAV file – problem. M4V format: Creates empty WAV file – problem. Does not create WMV file -problem Does not create JPG file –problem Throws me the error “An invalid media type was specified” MP4 format: Creates empty WAV file – problem. Does not create WMV file -problem Does not create JPG file –problem Throws me the error “One or more arguments are invalid” When I check their security property, all the files have the same permission access parameters (when I check their security property. • PHP IDE with Integrated Web Server

  Note: This is not another "What is the best PHP IDE?" question. I'm looking for a PHP IDE with a specific feature, namely an integrated / embedded (php enabled) web server; ideally with xdebug pre-bundled. I already know that Aptana 1.5 has this functionality (and some older versions of Zend Studio as well), but Aptana 1.5 hasn't been supported for quite some time and as we make the transition to PHP 5.3 and beyond, it's usefulness will diminish significantly. I've looked at some options including Eclipse PDT and NetBeans, but it seems every PHP IDE relies on a separate local/remote web server to actually interpret the code. I know installing a web server locally is fairly trivial, but this is for a classroom solution, where installing, configuring, and maintaining a web server on 1000 machines is simply not feasible. A remote server solution will also not work due to the need to use debugging functionality (xdebug currently requires a hardcoded IP for the debug client). This seems like such an obvious feature/plugin for a PHP IDE, but my research thus far has turned up no results.

  Hi, I have a web service slowdown. My (web) service is in gsoap & managed C++. It's not IIS/apache hosted, but speaks xml. My client is in .NET The service computation time is light (<0.1s to prepare reply). I expect the service to be smooth, fast and have good availability. I have about 100 clients, response time is 1s mandatory. Clients have about 1 request per minute. Clients are checking web service presence by tcp open port test. So, to avoid possible congestion, I turned gSoap KeepAlive to false. Until there everything runs fine : I bearly see connections in TCPView (sysinternals) New special synchronisation program now calls the service in a loop. It's higher load but everything is processed in less 30 seconds. With sysinternals TCPView, I see that about 1 thousands connections are in TIME_WAIT. They slowdown the service and It takes seconds for the service to reply, now. Could it be that I need to reset the SoapHttpClientProtocol connection ? Someone has TIME_WAIT ghosts with a web service call in a loop ?
