I wish i could use OPOS for ADK .Net, but haven't had luck setting it up on windows 7. Does anyone know how to be a part of epson developer network. • Rx Reactive extensions: Unit testing with FromAsyncPattern

  The Reactive Extensions have a sexy little hook to simplify calling async methods: var func = Observable.FromAsyncPattern<InType, OutType>( myWcfService.BeginDoStuff, myWcfService.EndDoStuff); func(inData).ObserveOnDispatcher().Subscribe(x => Foo(x)); I am using this in an WPF project, and it works great at runtime. Unfortunately, when trying to unit test methods that use this technique I am experiencing random failures. ~3 out of every five executions of a test that contain this code fails. I can verify this by setting breakpoints in Foo and observing that they are never reached. Further, I can force a long delay after calling DoMethodThatInvokesService (which kicks off the async call), and the code is still never run. I do know that the lines of code invoking the Rx framework were called. Other things I've tried: I have attempted to modify the second last line according to the suggestions here: Reactive Extensions Rx - unit testing something with ObserveOnDispatcher No love. I have added .Take(1) to the Rx code as follows: func(inData).ObserveOnDispatcher().Take(1).Subscribe(x = Foo(x)); This improved my failure rate to something like 1 in 5, but they still occurred. I have rewritten the Rx code to use the plain jane Async pattern. This works, however my developer ego really would love to use Rx instead of boring old begin/end. In the end I do have a work around in hand (i.e. don't use Rx), however I feel that it is not ideal. If anyone has ran into this problem in the past and found a solution, I'd dearly love to hear it.

• NHibernate.MappingException (no persister for) weirdness

  The weird part being that I have other tests that validate the mapping and even the method being called (Nhib session.SaveOrUpdate) that run just fine. The entire exception is below. Here is some debug output from a test that does work: Item type: Domain.Model.Projects.Project item: 007-00-056 ATM Machine Replacement Is transient: True Id: 0 NHibernate: INSERT INTO Projects (Code, Description) VALUES (@p0, @p1); select insert_rowid();@p0 = '007-00-056', @p1 = 'ATM Machine Replacement' Here is the same debug output before the exception: Item type: Smack.ConstructionAdmin.Domain.Model.Projects.Project item: 006-00-023 Refinish Casino Chairs Is transient: True Id: 0 The two tests are different in that the one that works is just testing the repository, and saving in memory test data. The failing one is saving data that has been converted from a legacy db (which has it's own session). The repository is also a replacement design for a different IProjectRepsitory that worked fine doing this, so the new repository is also a likely suspect here. Does anyone see what I'm missing or have some questions to narrow it down? • Java: JPQL date function to add a time period to another date

  SELECT x FROM SomeClass WHERE x.dateAtt BETWEEN CURRENT_DATE AND (CURRENT_DATE + 1 MONTH) In the above JPQL statement, SomeClass has a memebr dateAttr, which is a java.util.Date and has a @Temporal(javax.persistence.TemporalType.DATE) annotation. I need a way to do the (CURRENT_DATE + 1 MONTH) bit - it is obviously wrong in its current state - but cannot find the doc with the date function for JPQL. Can anyone point me in the direction of a doc that documents JPQL date functions (and also how to do this particular query)?

• Sharing an assembly between ASP.NET and Silverlight

  Hi, I've created an assembly to share it between my main app and the silverlight app. At the beginning it looked like it was going to work but now I get this exception: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException was caught, Message="Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq". I'm using .NET 3.5 Sp1 and Silverlight 3. That shared assembly uses System.Xml.Linq, and it cannot find it... I think because it is trying to find that version in the .NET framework instead looking in the silverlight one. How can I fix this? Cheers.   I have three machines. one installed VS2008 another two installed SDK6 and Framework3.5 (one of these two is a build machine). The actual error happens when i try to just create a word application object Dim oWord As New Word.Application Using Visual Studio 2008 and VB.NET 3.5. I made a reference to the "Microsoft Word 10.0 Object Library" and i see Interop.Word.dll file in the bin directory. Using MS Office 2003 on development machine and Windows Server 2003 Still fairly new to .NET and don't have much knowledge about window server, but "UnauthorizedAccessException" sounds like a permission issue. I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on what i might need to do to give my little application access to use word. Thank you so much for your time.

  I'm trying to assign a mapped IP address to a Windows 7 VM. I have setup running in Parallels 5 in wireless bridged networking mode. The problem I am having is that it looks like the VM is actually broadcasting the MAC address of the host machine and thus causing a clash of IP addresses on the network. I have tried removing the mapping for "alex-macbook" which results in the guest machine being assigned a normal DHCP address and NOT the one that is in the mapping of the router.

  i am trying to get date from my implementation of jquery date picker, add it to a string and display the resulting image in my div. Something however is just not working. Can anyone check out the code and have a look at it?   In the Maps app, when you press the tracking button in the lower left hand corner, it glows showing that it's pressed. This makes it behave like a radio button, and it will un-glow once you move the map. Is there a simple way to but a button into the pressed state?

• android: what is INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES error?

  I was trying to change my default/main/startup (whatever you call it) activity by editing the androidmanifest.xml file. All i did was change the android:name property. however, this completely broke the entire app. when i try to install it fails and reads Installation error: INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES when i tried to change it back to its previous state, it was still giving me the same error... what have i done!?!?!

  I have a large JSON data string that's 757KB. I tried GZIP'ing it, which successfully reduced file size down to 143KB. But, in it's GZIP'ed state, my JQUERY function can't make use of the compressed JSON data. Any suggestions on how to compress JSON in an IIS/ASP environment and still be able to use the JSON data in a JQUERY function?

  I am supporting an ASP.Net 3.5 web application and users are experiencing a timeout error after 30 seconds when trying to run a report. Looking around the web it seems it's easy enough to change the timeout in the code, unfortunately I'm not able to access the code and recompile. Is there anyway to configure the default for either the web app, the worker process, IIS or the whole machine? I've compared the machine.config and web.config files from the .Net directory on the live and test and they seem the same, compared the two IIS setups, also looked at the SQL Server configuration and the only difference is that the live server is clustered on 64bit W2K3 while the test server is on 32bit.

  The old Facebook API provided the user sex/gender as part of the default user data. Apparently the new Graph API does not provide that information, even though the documentation says that it does. I've heard people say that you need to request special permissions to get it and other pieces of data, but I have not been successful in getting it to work. Does anyone have an example, using the Facebook Graph API, of how to get the user's gender and/or location (city/state/country/whatever)?

  I migrated to a new machine and used migration assistant to copy across my files (which seemed to copy across the DBs) but I had to use macports to install Mysql (whereas last time I compiled from source via Dan Benjamin's guide). For some reason, mysql is intermittently throwing the following error; Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' (2) It does this no matter what I try, which has included setting the socket in /opt/local/etc/mysql5/my.cnf. • Development Environment in a VM against an isolated development/test network

  I currently work in an organization that forces all software development to be done inside a VM. This is for a variety of risk/governance/security/compliance reasons. The standard setup is something like: VMWare image given to devs with tools installed VM is customized to suit project/stream needs VM sits in a network & domain that is isolated from the live/production network SCM connectivity is only possible through dev/test network Email and office tools need to be on live network so this means having two separate desktops going at once Heavyweight dev tools in use on VMs so they are very resource hungry Some problems that people complain about are: Development environment runs slower than normal (host OS is windows XP so memory is limited) Switching between DEV machine and Email/Office machine is a pain, simple things like cut and paste are made harder. This is less efficient from a usability perspective. Mouse in particular doesn't seem to work properly using VMWare player or RDP. Need a separate login to Dev/Test network/domain Has anyone seen or worked in other (hopefully better) setups to this that have similar constraints (as mentioned at the top)? In particular are there viable options that would remove the need for running stuff in a VM altogether?

  Hi Everyone, I've been trying to use TransactionScope with a DB2 database (using DB2 .Net provider v 9.0.0.2 and c# 2.0) which SHOULD be supported according to IBM. I have tried all the advice i could find on the IBM forums (such as here) to no avail. I have enabled XA transactions on my XP Sp2 machine, tried also from a Win 2003 Server machine but i consistently get the infamous error: ERROR [58005] [IBM][DB2/NT] SQL0998N Error occurred during transaction or heuristic processing. Reason Code = "16". Subcode = "2-80004005". SQLSTATE=58005 The windows event log says: The XA Transaction Manager attempted to load the XA resource manager DLL. The call to LOADLIBRARY for the XA resource manager DLL failed: DLL=C:\APPS\IBM\DB2v95fp2\SQLLIB\BIN\DB2APP.DLL File=d:\comxp_sp2\com\com1x\dtc\dtc\xatm\src\xarmconn.cpp Line=2467. Also, granted the NETWORK SERVICE user full rights to the folder and dll.
