• SQL Server - how to determine if indexes aren't being used?

  I have a high-demand transactional database that I think is over-indexed. Originally, it didn't have any indexes at all, so adding some for common processes made a huge difference. However, over time, we've created indexes to speed up individual queries, and some of the most popular tables have 10-15 different indexes on them, and in some cases, the indexes are only slightly different from each other, or are the same columns in a different order. Is there a straightforward way to watch database activity and tell if any indexes are not hit anymore, or what their usage percentage is? I'm concerned that indexes were created to speed up either a single daily/weekly query, or even a query that's not being run anymore, but the index still has to be kept up to date every time the data changes. In the case of the high-traffic tables, that's a dozen times/second, and I want to eliminate indexes that are weighing down data updates while providing only marginal improvement.

  For example I might have some css stuff that looks like this: .divType1 { position: absolute; width: 60px; height: 60px; left: 400px; top: 100px; border: 1px solid #89B; z-index: 0; } Now within Javascript I want to gather div class divType1' css attributes, but am provided only with the div class, so I can't do something of form ( pseudo-code ): selectDivWithClass( divType1 ).getCss(left). I could hack something by instantiating a div with class divType1 and grab its css attributes, and then destroy it, but is there a better way?

Now, I have to find all the consecutive sub-vector of size 4 out of it with the condition that each element of the sub-vector must be greater than 2 and all sub-vector must be disjoint in the sense that non of the two sub-vector can contain same index element. • Paginator (Migration from Cake 1.3 to 2.0

  i am struggling with the paginator in cakephp 2.0. While i am trying to migrate my application to 2.0 i cant find any solution to jump directly to the last page. In 1.3 it was quiet to do that from outside like this: echo $this->Html->link(__('Flights'), array('controller' => 'flights', 'action' => 'index','page' => 'last')); but this little trick putting 'page:last' in does not work anymore in 2.0. Of course there is a Paginator function called last, but this would only help if i would be already inside the app. My Problem is to access from an outside link directly the last page of the paginator. • How to place some text over the DIV without breaking hover area of this DIV?

  I'm total noob with CSS and it looks like hell =/ I have absolute positioned DIV and I handle mouse events over this DIV with JS like this: <div style='position: absolute; left: 0px; width:50px; height: 50px;' onmouseover='this.style.border="2px solid red"' onmouseout='this.style.border="1px solid black"'> </div> <div style='position: absolute;'>SOME TEXT</div> I need to place some text over this DIV and over the few same DIVs, but if I place any element over this DIV onMouseOut event is firing when mouse cursor switch to text. Tag with text can't be inside the DIV. Playing with z-index didn`t help. My browser is IE8.

• String formatting [str.format()] with a dictionary having a key which is a str() of a number

  Python neophyte here. I was wondering if someone could help with the KeyError I am getting when using a dictionary for string interpolation in str.format. dictionary = {'key1': 'val1', '1': 'val2'} string1 = 'Interpolating {0[key1]}'.format(dictionary) print string1 The above works fine and yields: Interpolating val1 However doing the following: dictionary = {'key1': 'val1', '1': 'val2'} string2 = 'Interpolating {0[1]}'.format(dictionary) print string2 results in: Traceback (most recent call last): File "test.py", line 3, in <module> string2 = 'Interpolating {0[1]}'.format(dictionary) KeyError: 1L So the problem seems to be in the interpretation of the numeric key as a list index, IMHO. Is there any way to work around this? (i.e. convey that this is instead a dictionary key) TIA and apologies if this question has been asked before(couldn't find anything relevant with my search-fu).

• Is it possible to get the current request that is being served by node.js?

  I am using express.js. I have a need to be able to log certain request data whenever someone tries to log a message. For this I would like to create a helper method like so function log_message(level, message){ winston.log(level, req.path + "" + message); } I would then use the method like so. exports.index = function(req, res){ log_message("info", "I'm here"); } Note that I am not passing the req object to the log_message function. I want that to be transparently done so that the log_message API user does not need to be aware of the common data that is being logged. Is there a way to achieve this with express.js/node.js. Is the request object available from a global variable of some sort?

• Using preg_match as boolean AND array

  I have this code where preg_match is used to break up a string into $pmarr array. Index 1 of that array is then being used to set a value $val = $pmarr[1]. $pmarr = array(); if (preg_match($expression, $orig, $pmarr)) { $val = $pmarr[1]; } What I'm wondering about is why the preg_match itself is being used as a boolean. If the expression doesn't match, does the array stay empty and therefore equate to false? Is the above code the same as saying preg_match($expression, $orig, $pmarr); if(isset($pmarr[1]) AND !empty($pmarr[1])){ $val = $pmarr[1]; }

  I just started using python and I'm trying to create a program that will read a file that looks like this: AAA x 111 AAB x 111 AAA x 112 AAC x 123 ... the file is 50 lines long and I'm trying to make the letters into keys in a dictionary and the numbers lists that correspond with the keys. • (Rails) How do I reference resources from non-restful views...?

  Hi All, How do you ensure that your javascript includes get included properly for all files everywhere using a particular layout? Basically I have some non-restful actions that I've added. I haven't added any ROUTES for them, however, using normal text rendering works fine. It's when I start requiring different "swf" and "js" files (files which are properly placed in PUBLIC) that things get hairy. I start receiving "406 Not Acceptable" errors telling me that it's looking for the files in a subdirectory of the current controller. As it stands I'm in including the JS in "application" layout file. It works for the INDEX action, but doesn't seem to work for any of the non-restful actions. Thoughts?

• Ruby on Rails - can't access datetime model object

  I've created a model that has 3 string columns and a datetime. Everything is running in SQLite3 and I can view the records in my table just fine using Lita. I'm trying to display the values in a page (index action) using code like this: <% @details.each do |lifeCycle| % <%= debug(lifeCycle)% <%= lifeCycle.lifeCycleId % <%= lifeCycle.eventType % <%= debug(lifeCycle.timeId) % <% end % From the debug I get a result like this: --- !ruby/object:LifeCycle attributes: eventType: Order created_at: "2111359287.23037" timeId: "2455364.89983796" eventId: "98765" updated_at: "2111359287.23037" lifeCycleId: "12345" id: "1" attributes_cache: {} But whenever I try to access the event timeId - i' getting a nil value. This is true if i try to run debug on just that field debug(lifeCycle.timeId), or call a function on it. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

  Is it possible to get the information why/how given row returned by FTS query was matched (or which substring caused row to match)? For example, consider simpliest table with id and text columns, with FTS index on the later one. SELECT * FROM Example WHERE CONTAINS(text, 'FORMSOF(INFLECTIONAL, jump)'); This examplary query could return, say row {1, 'Jumping Jack'}. Now, is it possible to somehow get information that this very row was matched because of 'Jumping' word? It doesn't even have to be exact information, more of a which substring caused row to match. Why I'm asking - I got C# app that builds up those queries basing on user input (keywords to search for), and I need the very basic information why/how row was matched back, to use further in C# code. If it's not possible, any alternatives?

• Creating a CD auto-start dialog

  For me, compact discs and these customized auto-start dialogs are somewhat outdated and waste... However, I have to create such a dialog as an index for a CD consisting of a few PDF files. Making one to work on Microsoft Windows is quite easy. As there might be users from different platforms (Unix, Apple,...), the question raises how to offer them such a (auto-starting) dialog as well. Java is of course an option, but I think it's overloaded and naturally too slow for this purpose. Now, I think of a single webpage that will appear in the local browser. Using all these web standards this could a very creative, light-weight approach working on most systems. Do you see any problems that might occur here? Probably, there is a different and more elegant solution to this issue?

  I have a CodeIgniter install running in our root web directory that I copied into a subdirectory called /dev...   I'm working on migrating a website from an external server (running Apache) to a local server (running IIS), and have come across an issue that I can't seem to resolve. The site is using a custom Joomla plugin that grabs some graphics stored in a mysql database (for e.g. http://www.norfolktourism.ca/index.php?option=com_bdirectory&task=image&cid=191). However, when I migrate the site to the local server, the images are broken. Upon further exploration, I've discovered that somehow, when ran on the local server, their seems to whitespace (as in a new line) gets processed before the header() function is processed, hence breaking the image (however, I don't get an error - just a broken image). I'm absolutely baffled as to what the issue may be, as the code works fine on the external Apache server. Would anyone have any suggestions on possible resolutions?

The most obvious solution would be: SELECT COUNT(*) as ExecutesNum, DATE(Date) as D, HOUR(Date) as H GROUP BY D, H And it works, BUT it does not create rows for hours where there were no executes. What should I modify to get result like: 1 | 2012-09-01 | 14 **0 | 2012-09-01 | 15** 11 | 2012-09-01 | 16 1 | 2012-09-01 | 17
