• Sign in as different user when using Integrated Windows Authentication

  I have restricted access to a site by using Integrated Windows Authentication and turning off anonymous access. This way I can then show them their real name (from looking up on Active Directory and using the server variable LOGON_USER) and do other related Active Directory tasks. How can I then prompt again for their user credentials, through a 'sign in as other user' link , showing the browser prompt (like you would get on a browser like Chrome or Firefox, or if the site was not in the 'Intranet' zone in IE) rather than a Web Form? Since SharePoint offers this functionality, I assume there is a way to do this through code, but I don't know what code can do this (using C#). I can send a 401 header which makes the prompt appear, but how do you then confirm if they are logged in?

• Is there a modern (eg NoSQL) web analytics solution based on log files?

  I have been using Awstats for many years to process my log files. But I am missing many possibilities (like cross-domain reports) and I hate being stuck with extra fields I created years ago. Anyway, I am not going to continue to use this script. Is there a modern apache logs analytics solution based on modern storage technologies like NoSQL or at least somehow ready to cope with large datasets efficiently? I am primarily looking for something that generates nice sortable and searchable outputs with the focus on web analytics, before having to write my own frontends. (so graylog2 is not an option) This question is purely about log file based solutions.

• Multiple Vertex Buffers per Mesh

  I've run into the situation where the size of my mesh with all its vertices and indices, is larger than the (optimal) vertex buffer object upper limit (~8MB). I was wondering if I can sub-divide the mesh across multiple vertex buffers, and somehow retain validity of the indices. Ie a triangle with a indice at the first vertex, and an indice at the last (ie in seperate VBOs). All the while maintaining this within Vertex Array Objects. My thoughts are, save myself the hassle, and for meshes (messes :P) such as this, just use the necessary size ( 8MB); which is what I do at the moment. But ideally my buffer manager (wip) at the moment is using optimal sizes; I may just have to make a special case then... Any ideas? If necessary, a simple C++ code example is appreciated. Note: I have also cross-posted this on stackoverflow, as I was not sure as to which it would be more suitable (its partly a design question).

• Getting MVC default route to go to ~/default.asp

  I am adding some MVC features to an existing site (FWIW, most of which is in classic ASP). As a result, I need to keep the default routing going to ~/default.asp (at a minimum - preferably the default document specified in IIS). Is there a way to write the route in RegisterRoutes so that a request for the root of the site (e.g., http://localhost, http://localhost/, or http://localhost/default.asp) will directly get the default page, and not attempt to find a controller/action? Or do I need to write my own HttpModule that will filter it and keep it from getting to the MvcHandler (as in this blog)? BTW, I have googled this, but most of the hits are for MVC version 1 or older, and default routing appears to have changed in version 2 (i.e, there is no more default.aspx that redirects to ~/Home), so they are not directly applicable. Even so, the ones that were there didn't address this problem.

• How to subString a block of user generated HTML while preserving formatting?

  I'd like to create the typical preview paragraph with a [read more] link. Problem is, the content that I'd like to SubString() contains text and html, written by a user with a WYSIWYG editor. Of course, I check to make sure the string is not null or empty, then SubString() it, problem is that I could end up breaking the html tags, throwing off the rendering of the entire site. The WYSIWYG editor doesn't seem to create perfectly formatted HTML, and many times seems to use <br /> tags instead of <p></p>, etc... basically, I can't rely on well-formed tags, etc. My workaround was to just strip out all HTML and substring the leftover text. This works, but loses any of the formatting that was in the HTML. What's the best method of SubString()'ing a block of non-well-formed HTML while maintaining HTML that won't break the rendering of the site?

  Hi, How do I differentiate between multiple cookies set through my site? I am setting two kinds of cookies one to see if the user has visited the site or not and an other one for authentication. How do I differentiate between these two? I get both of them when someone accesses a page after authentication. Do I add extra information to the Cookie Value or is there some other way? I understand the setName() function will change the name (from jsessionid) for every cookie from then on. Am I correct? Pav

• Combining javascripts into a single file

  Having read up recently on yahoo's web optimisation tips and using YSlow I've implemented a few of their ideas on one of my sites http://www.gwynfryncottages.com you can see the file here http://www.gwynfryncottages.com/js/gw-custom.js. While this technique seems to work perfectly on most occasions, and really does speed up the site, I do notice a significantly higher number of errors where the javascripts don't load or don't load completely while I'm working on the site so three questions:- is combining scripts this way a good idea at all in terms of reliablity? is there any way to measure the number of errors? is there any way to 'pre-load' the javascript or ensure that the number of loading errors is reduced?

• Context module for block visibility

  I have a site built in Drupal 6 that requires a number of blocks that are only visible to certain roles or on specific pages. Normally, I would use the block configuration settings to control page and role visibility. However I recently ran across the context module that effectively splits the site into "sections" or "groups" of related attributes. My question is: When is it appropriate to control block visibility from context rather than the block configuration settings? Should I only use one or the other or a combination of both?

• Slow PDF upload for Confluence

  We run a site that we host that uses the Atlassian Confluence. The site works great and is being used now. But there is one thing. It seems like when pdf and gifs are uploaded the upload speed will be slower. But the smaller files will upload fine. Has anyone else having an issue with uploading pdf's into confluence? I am trying to use fiddler to track the speed but am not having luck with that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

• Override transparency color when converting transparent PNG to JPG

  I'm using Dragonfly to generate thumbnail images in a Rails app. I'm serving all picture images as JPG's. Now the client is uploading transparent PNG files, like this one: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/images/eg2010/ART120_TRF_12_02.png Dragonfly uses RMagick to convert these images to JPG. The problem is that it converts the PNG images to JPG with a black background, and my site's design requires a white background. I've tried to override it like this: encoded_image = Magick::Image.from_blob(image.data).first if encoded_image.format.downcase == format image # do nothing else encoded_image.format = format encoded_image.background_color = "white" encoded_image.transparent_color = "white" encoded_image.to_blob end But the produced JPG images still contain a black background. Does anyone know how to beat RMagick into using a white background when converting the transparent layer? I know I could just serve as PNG, but then the images are 10 times as large, and the site is already pretty bandwidth heavy.

• Dynamic tests with mstest and T4

  If you used mstest and NUnit you might be aware of the fact that the former doesn't support dynamic, data driven test cases. For example, the following scenario cannot be achieved with the out-of-box mstest: given a dataset, create distinct test cases for each entry in it, using a predefined generic test case. The best result that can be achieved using mstest is a single testcase that will iterate through the dataset. There is one disadvantage: if the test fails for one entry in the dataset, the whole test case fails. So, in order to overcome the previously mentioned limitation, I decided to create a text template that will generate the test cases for me. • stub webserver for integration testing

  I have some integration tests where I want to verify certain requires are made against a third-[arty webserver. I was thinking I would replace the third-party server with a stub server that simply logs calls made to it. The calls do not need to succeed, but I do need a record of the requests made (mainly just the path+querystring). I was considering just using IIS for this. I could 1) set up an empty site, 2) modify the system's host file to redirect requests to that site 3) parse the log file at the end of each test. This is problematic as for IIS the log files are not written to immediately, and the files are written to continuosly. I'll need to locate the file, read the contents before the test, wait a nondeterministic amount of time after the test, read the update contents, etc. Can someone think of a simpler way?

• Apache 13 permission denied in user's home directory

  Hi, My friend's website was working fine until he moved the document root from /var/www/xxx to /home/user/xxx Apache give 13 permission denied error messages when we try to access the site via a web browser. The site is configured as a virtual directory. All the Apache configurations were unchanged (except for the directory change). We tried to chmod 777 /home/user/xxx, chown apache /home/user/xxx. But they didn't work. Is there some kind of security feature set on the user's home directories? The server OS is CentOS (Godaddy VPS). Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

This release contains several new accessibility features, along with a new set of custom high-contrast icons which improve the user experience for users needing improved contrast. This release also makes available the AEGIS-funded GNOME Shell Magnifier. This magnifier leverages the powerful graphics functionality built into all modern video cards for smooth and fast magnification in GNOME.   I am (re-)designing some packages for R, and I am currently working out the necessary functions, objects, both internal and for the interface with the user. I have documented the individual functions and objects. So I have the description of all the little parts. Now I need to give an overview of how the parts fit together. The scheme of the motor so to say. I've started with making some flowchart-like graphs in Visio, but that quickly became a clumsy and useless collection of boxes, arrrows and-what-not. So hence the question: Is there specific software you can use for vizualizing the design of your program If so, care to share some tips on how to do this most efficiently If not, how do other designers create the scheme of their programs and communicate that to others? Edit: I am NOT asking how to explain complex processes to somebody, nor asking how to illustrate programming logic. I am asking how to communicate the design of a program/package, i.e.: the objects (with key features and representation if possible) the related functions (with arguments and function if possible) the interrelation between the functions at the interface and the internal functions (I'm talking about an extension package for a scripting language, keep that in mind) So something like this : But better.   Hi! I gotta say that this site is really great because it helped me a lot at my job. I'm mostly the one asking the questions rather than answering it. Now I'd like to know what's your motivation to help others of whom you only know their nicknames? Because contrary to other communities on the Internet, this site lacks things like a message board where you can talk about all things in life or a function for private messaging. And in my opinion these two things normally help in building kind of a "social" environment. Also stackoverflow has probably lot's of users and is therefore not that tight-knitted. Maybe you can share some your thoughts with me.

• Specifying different page base classes for different directories in your web.config file

  I have a website (coded in vb.net) with an "admin" section (the admin section being a folder in the actual site)... So in every page of the site I'm using my own custom class as the page base (which has been set in the web.config file) but I want to inherit from different class for the files in the "admin" folder... Is there any way to inherit different classes for pages in different folders using the web.config or some other equally as global method? (meaning some other way than inheriting on a per page basis.)

I would like to reference the web part property from the custom page, but I don't know where these properties are stored. I've tried to access it using the code below, but both property collections don't have any properties stored.   Project Euler I have recently begun to solve some of the Project Euler riddles. I found the discussion forum in the site a bit frustrating (most of the discussions are closed and poorly-threaded), So I have decided to publish my Python solutions on launchpad for discussion. The problem is that it seems quite unethical to publish these solutions, as it would let other people gain reputation without doing the programming work, which the site deeply discourages. My Encryption problem I want to encrypt my answers so that only those who have already solved the riddles can see my code. The logical key would be the answer to the riddle, which is always numeric. In order to prevent brute-force attacks on my answers, I want to find an encryption algorithm that takes a significantly long time (few seconds) to run. Do you know any such algorithm? I would fancy a Python package, which I can attach to the code, over an external program that might have portability issues. Thanks, Adam

• Can mass different log-in pages result in SEO duplicate and/or low quality punishments?

  I have internal pages that rely on an external API which I would like to build upon user request. Two options I thought about: Make lots of 'thin' pages that specifies that if you want content about X, you need to log-in, and then the page will be built. Pros: user understands what he'll get when logging in. Cons: SEO implications of such a solution due to the mass 'low quality' and 'cross-sites duplicate content' Make them all redirect to ONE same generic log-in page. Pros: No duplicate low quality content. Cons: Lots of internal links to the same log-in page. Which would you recommend?
