  • Automatically grow document view of NSScrollView using auto layout?

    - by Monolo
Is there a simple way to get an NSScrollView to adapt to its document view changing size when using autolayout (the Lion feature)? I have tried to call both setNeedsUpdateConstraints: and setNeedsLayout: on the document view, the clip view and the scroll view, without any results. fittingSize of the document view reports the correct size. An NSPopover in conjunction with an NSViewController handles this nicely, with the popover growing and shrinking as needed, and I was hoping to get a similar simple and robust behaviour with the scroll view. I have checked the documentation for scroll views, but they don't seem to be updated to use autolayout. Edited to clarify: The problem I experience is that the document view, which holds subviews, is not re-sized when the subviews change their size, even if they call invalidateIntrinsicContentSize. The contents of the document view are hence clipped to the original size of the document view as they grow. The document view is created in a nib and set as the scroll view's document view in an awakeFromBib method. What I hoped to obtain was that the document view frame would automatically be adjusted to when its fittingSize changes, and the scrollbars updated accordingly. NSPopover does something similar - provided that the subviews of the content controller's view have the constraints set right and various content hugging values are high enough (higher than the hidden popover window's hight constraint priority, for one).

  • Getting proper indentation using XMLBuilder in a helper

    - by Robbie
I'm attempting to use a view helper to create some dynamic links based on if you're logged in or not. What I want returned, for sake of easy code readability, is: <ul class="right"> <li><a href="#">Login</a></li> <li><a href="#">Register</a></li> </ul> In the view helper I have this Ruby code: def loginh xm = Builder::XmlMarkup.new(:indent=>2, :margin=>4) xm.ul("class" => "right") { xm.li('class' => 'text') { xm.text("test") } } end In the view, the line that calls login helper is already indented 4 levels. Because of this, the first line gets 'skewed', so in the view I have: <%= loginh %> Which results in: <ul class="right"> <li class="text"> <text>test</text> </li> </ul> You can see it works perfectly, except for the first line. It would appear that the first line is affected by the indent before <%= loginh % is called. I can easily remedy this by removing the indentation prior to <%= loginh % - but in essence I'd be sacrificing code readability for markup readability. Which isn't what I'm looking to do. Is there any way I could remove the beginning whitespace?

  • How do you configure an SDL Tridion CME extension for a subset of views?

    - by Chris Summers
I have created a new editor for SDL Tridion which adds some new functionality to the ribbon bar. This is enabled by adding the following snippet to the editor.config <!-- ItemCommenting PowerTool --> <ext:extension assignid="ItemCommenting" name="Save and&lt;br/&gt;Comment" pageid="HomePage" groupid="ManageGroup" insertbefore="SaveCloseBtn"> <ext:command>PT_ItemCommenting</ext:command> <ext:title>Save and Comment</ext:title> <ext:issmallbutton>false</ext:issmallbutton> <ext:dependencies> <cfg:dependency>PowerTools.Commands</cfg:dependency> </ext:dependencies> <ext:apply> <ext:view name="*" /> </ext:apply> </ext:extension> This is applied to all views by using a wildcard value in the node. This has results in my new button being added to the ribbon of every view, including the main dashboard. Is there a way to add this to all views except for the dashboard? Or do I have to create something like this? <ext:apply> <ext:view name="PageView" /> <ext:view name="ComponentView" /> <ext:view name="SchemaView" /> </ext:apply> If this is the only way to achieve the result I need, is there a list of all the view names somewhere?

  • The following code to check if a file exists on a server does not work

    - by xplorer2k
Hi Everyone, I found the following code to check if a file exists on a server, but is not working for me. It tells me that "test1.tx" does not exist even though the file exists and its size is 498 bytes. If I try with Ftp.ListDirectory it tells me that the file does not exist. If I try with Ftp.GetFileSize it does not provide any results and the debugger's immediate gives me the following message: A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.WebException' occurred in System.dll. Using "request.UseBinary = true" does not make any difference. I have posted this same question at this link: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ncl/thread/89e05cf3-189f-48b7-ba28-f93b1a9d44ae Could someone help me how to fix it? private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string ftpServerIP = txtIPaddress.Text.Trim(); string ftpUserID = txtUsername.Text.Trim(); string ftpPassword = txtPassword.Text.Trim(); try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("ftp://" + ftpServerIP + "//tmp/test1.txt"); request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectory; //request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.GetFileSize; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(ftpUserID, ftpPassword); //request.UseBinary = true; using (FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse()) { // Okay. textBox1.AppendText(Environment.NewLine); textBox1.AppendText("File exist"); } } catch (WebException ex) { if (ex.Response != null) { FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)ex.Response; if (response.StatusCode == FtpStatusCode.ActionNotTakenFileUnavailable) { // Directory not found. textBox1.AppendText(Environment.NewLine); textBox1.AppendText("File does not exist"); } } } } Thanks very much, xplorer2k

  • Does git clone work through NTLM proxies?

    - by AndreaG
I've tried both using export http_proxy=http://[username]:[pwd]@[proxy] and git config --global http.proxy http://[username]:[pwd]@[proxy]. I couldn't make it work. For example, curl --proxy-ntlm --proxy ...:8080 google.com works, and I'd like to use the same option with git. I need some more definite answers here: has anybody succeed using git through Windows proxies? Which version? Thanks.

  • In .NET, What Is Fastest Way to Initialize Multi-Dimensional Array to Non-Default Value

    - by AMissico
    How do I initialize a multi-dimensional array of a primitive type as fast as possible? I am stuck with using multi-dimensional arrays. My problem is performance. The following routine initializes a 100x100 array in approx. 500 ticks. Removing the int.MaxValue initialization results in approx. 180 ticks just for the looping. Approximately 100 ticks to create the array without looping and without initializing to int.MaxValue. Routines similiar to this are called a few tens-of-thousands to several million times. I am open to suggestions on how to optimize this non-default initialization of an array. One idea I had is to use a smaller primitive type when available. For instance, using byte instead of int, saves 100 ticks. I would be happy with this, but I am hoping that I don't have to change the primitive data type. public int[,] CreateArray(Size size) { int[,] array = new int[size.Width, size.Height]; for (int x = 0; x < size.Width; x++) { for (int y = 0; y < size.Height; y++) { array[x, y] = int.MaxValue; } } return array; }

  • How to use Struts 2 with JFreeChart?

  • Use a vector to index a matrix without linear index

    - by David_G
G'day, I'm trying to find a way to use a vector of [x,y] points to index from a large matrix in MATLAB. Usually, I would convert the subscript points to the linear index of the matrix.(for eg. Use a vector as an index to a matrix in MATLab) However, the matrix is 4-dimensional, and I want to take all of the elements of the 3rd and 4th dimensions that have the same 1st and 2nd dimension. Let me hopefully demonstrate with an example: Matrix = nan(4,4,2,2); % where the dimensions are (x,y,depth, time) Matrix(1,2,:,:) = 999; % note that this value could change in depth (3rd dim) and time (4th time) Matrix(3,4,:,:) = 888; % note that this value could change in depth (3rd dim) and time (4th time) Matrix(4,4,:,:) = 124; Now, I want to be able to index with the subscripts (1,2) and (3,4), etc and return not only the 999 and 888 which exist in Matrix(:,:,1,1) but the contents which exist at Matrix(:,:,1,2),Matrix(:,:,2,1) and Matrix(:,:,2,2), and so on (IRL, the dimensions of Matrix might be more like size(Matrix) = (300 250 30 200) I don't want to use linear indices because I would like the results to be in a similar vector fashion. For example, I would like a result which is something like: ans(time=1) 999 888 124 999 888 124 ans(time=2) etc etc etc etc etc etc I'd also like to add that due to the size of the matrix I'm dealing with, speed is an issue here - thus why I'd like to use subscript indices to index to the data. I should also mention that (unlike this question: Accessing values using subscripts without using sub2ind) since I want all the information stored in the extra dimensions, 3 and 4, of the i and jth indices, I don't think that a slightly faster version of sub2ind still would not cut it..

  • C Programming Logic Error?

    - by mbpluvr64
The following code compiles fine, but does not allow the user to choose whether or not the program is to run again. After giving the user the answer, the program automatically terminates. I placed the main code in a "do while" loop to have the ability to convert more than one time if I wanted too. I have tried to run the program in the command line (Mac and Ubuntu machines) and within XCode with the exact same results. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. C Beginner P.S. Compiling on MacBookPro running Snow Leopard. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(void) { char anotherIteration = 'Y'; do { const float Centimeter = 2.54f; float inches = 0.0f; float result = 0.0f; // user prompt printf("\nEnter inches: "); scanf("%f", &inches); if (inches < 0) { printf("\nTry again. Enter a positive number.\n"); break; } else { // calculate result result = inches * Centimeter; } printf("%0.2f inches is %0.2f centimeters.\n", inches, result); // flush input fflush(stdin); // user prompt printf("\nWould you like to run the program again? • Non-latin-characters ordering in database with "order by"

    - by nybon
I just found some strange behavior of database's "order by" clause. In string comparison, I expected some characters such as '[' and '_' are greater than latin characters such as 'i' considering their orders in the ASCII table. However, the sorting results from database's "order by" clause is different with my expectation. Here's my test: SQLite version 3.6.23 Enter ".help" for instructions Enter SQL statements terminated with a ";" sqlite> create table products(name varchar(10)); sqlite> insert into products values('ipod'); sqlite> insert into products values('iphone'); sqlite> insert into products values('[apple]'); sqlite> insert into products values('_ipad'); sqlite> select * from products order by name asc; [apple] _ipad iphone ipod This behavior is different from Java's string comparison (which cost me some time to find this issue). I can verify this in both SQLite 3.6.23 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005. I did some web search but cannot find any related documentation. Could someone shed me some light on it? Is it a SQL standard? Where can I find some information about this? Thanks in advance.

  • Help with java executors: wait for task termination.

    - by Raffo
I need to submit a number of task and then wait for them until all results are available. Each of them adds a String to a Vector (that is synchronized by default). Then I need to start a new task for each result in the Vector but I need to do this only when all the previous tasks have stopped doing their job. I want to use Java Executor, in particular I tried using Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100) in order to use a fixed number of thread (I have a variable number of task that can be 10 or 500) but I'm new with executors and I don't know how to wait for task termination. This is something like a pseudocode of what my program needs to do: EecutorService e = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100); while(true){ /*do something*/ for(...){ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> for each String in result{ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> } I can't do a e.shutdown because I'm in a while(true) and I need to reuse the executorService... Can you help me? Can you suggest me a guide/book about java executors??

  • How do you print from a popup window in javascript?

    - by sglantz
I have a .Net application that dynamically creates a small HTML page and pops it up in a new window using the javascript document.open method. Everything with that functionality is working fine. Now I want to add a button to the HTML page that prints the page. I have tried using the following code to no avail: <a href='print.html' onClick='window.print();return false;'> <img src='images/printer.png' height='32px' width='32px'></a> When the button is clicked in the popup window, nothing happens. But when the source code of of this page is saved and loaded in a browser as a separate page, the print button works perfectly. So it would appear that the problem is caused by the fact that the code is in a popup window. Does anyone know a way to fix this problem or any alternatives? EDIT: Other method that I have tried with the same results: <input type='button' onclick='window.print()' value='Print' /> and <a href='javascript:window.print()'> <img src='images/printer.png' height='32px' width='32px'></a>

  • java.io.FileNotFoundException (Permission denied) When trying to write to the Android sdcard

It appears to throw this exception when trying to create the FileOutputStream. I have the following line added to the manifest file nested inside the application element. I can't find a solution to the problem: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> public boolean saveSelectedImage( Uri selectedImage, int imageGroup, int imageNumber ) { boolean exception = false; InputStream input = null; OutputStream output = null; if( externalStorageIsWritable() ) { try { ContentResolver content = ctx.getContentResolver(); input = content.openInputStream( selectedImage ); if(input != null) Log.v( CLASS_NAME, "Input Stream Opened successfully"); File outFile = null; File root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory( ); if(root == null) Log.v(CLASS_NAME, "FAILED TO RETRIEVE DIRECTORY"); else Log.v(CLASS_NAME, "ROOT DIRECTORY is:"+root.toString()); output = new FileOutputStream( root+"/Image"+ imageGroup + "_" + imageNumber + ".png" ); if(output != null) Log.e( CLASS_NAME, "Output Stream Opened successfully"); // output = new FileOutputStream // ("/sdcard/Image"+imageGroup+"_"+imageNumber+".png"); byte[] buffer = new byte[1000]; int bytesRead = 0; while ( ( bytesRead = input.read( buffer, 0, buffer.length ) ) >= 0 ) { output.write( buffer, 0, buffer.length ); } } catch ( Exception e ) { Log.e( CLASS_NAME, "Exception occurred while moving image: "); e.printStackTrace(); exception = true; } finally { // if(input != null)input.close(); // if(output != null)output.close(); // if (exception ) return false; } return true; } else return false; }

  • Best way to do interprocess communication on Mac OS X

    - by jbrennan
I'm looking at building a Cocoa application on the Mac with a back-end daemon process (really just a mostly-headless Cocoa app, probably), along with 0 or more "client" applications running locally (although if possible I'd like to support remote clients as well; the remote clients would only ever be other Macs or iPhone OS devices). The data being communicated will be fairly trivial, mostly just text and commands (which I guess can be represented as text anyway), and maybe the occasional small file (an image possibly). I've looked at a few methods for doing this but I'm not sure which is "best" for the task at hand. Things I've considered: Reading and writing to a file (…yes), very basic but not very scalable. Pure sockets (I have no experience with sockets but I seem to think I can use them to send data locally and over a network. Though it seems cumbersome if doing everything in Cocoa Distributed Objects: seems rather inelegant for a task like this NSConnection: I can't really figure out what this class even does, but I've read of it in some IPC search results I'm sure there are things I'm missing, but I was surprised to find a lack of resources on this topic.

  • SEO: Where do I start?

    - by James
Hi, I am primarily a software developer however I tend to delve in some web development from time to time. I have recently been asked to have a look at a friends website as they are wanting to improve their position in search engine results i.e. google/yahoo etc. I am aware there is no guarentee that their position will change, however, I do know there are techniques/ways to make your website more visible to search engine spiders and to consequently improve your position in the rankings i.e. performing SEO. Before I started looking at the SEO of the site I did the following prerequsite checks: Ran the website through the W3C Markup Validator and the W3C CSS Validator services. Looked through the markup code manually (check for meta tags etc) Performed a thorough cross browser compatibility test. From those checks, the following was evident: No SEO has been performed on the site before. The website has been developed using a visual editing tool such as dreamweaver (as it failed the validation services miserably and tables where being used everywhere!) The site is fairly cross browser compatibile (only some slight issues with IE8 which are easily resolved). How the site navigation is, isn't very search engine friendly (e.g. index.php?page=home) I can see right away a major improvement for SEO (or I at least think) would be to change the way the website is structured i.e. change from using dynamic pages such as "index.php?page=home" and actually having pages called "home.html". Other area's would be to add meta tags to identify keywords, and then sprinkling these keywords over the pages. As I am a rookie in this department, could anyone give me some advice on how I could perform thorough SEO on this website? Thanks in advance.

  • Calling functions from the Immediate Window during debugging -- advanced Visual Studio kung-fu test

    - by kizzx2
I see some related questions have been asked, but they're either too advanced for me to grasp or lacking a step-by-step guide from start to finish (most of them end up being insider talk of their own experiment results). OK here it is, given this simple program: #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> int main() { FILE * f; char buffer[100]; memset(buffer, 0, 100); fun(); f = fopen("main.cpp", "r"); fread(buffer, 1, 99, f); printf(buffer); fclose(f); return 0; } What it does is basically print itself (assume file name is main.cpp). Question How can I have it print another file, say foobar.txt without modifying the source code? It has something to do with running it through VS's, stepping through the functions and hijacking the FILE pointer right before fread() is called. No need to worry about leaking resources by calling fclose(). I tried the simple f = fopen("foobar.txt", "r") which gave CXX0017: Error: symbol "fopen" not found Any ideas?

  • Patterns for non-layered applications

    - by Paul Stovell
In Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture, Martin Fowler writes: This book is thus about how you decompose an enterprise application into layers and how those layers work together. Most nontrivial enterprise applications use a layered architecture of some form, but in some situations other approaches, such as pipes and filters, are valuable. I don't go into those situations, focussing instead on the context of a layered architecture because it's the most widely useful. What patterns exist for building non-layered applications/parts of an application? Take a statistical modelling engine for a financial institution. There might be a layer for data access, but I expect that most of the code would be in a single layer. Would you still expect to see Gang of Four patterns in such a layer? How about a domain model? Would you use OO at all, or would it be purely functional? The quote mentions pipes and filters as alternate models to layers. I can easily imagine a such an engine using pipes as a way to break down the data processing. What other patterns exist? Are there common patterns for areas like task scheduling, results aggregation, or work distribution? What are some alternatives to MapReduce?

  • C# String.Replace with a start/index (Added my (slow) implementation)

I'd like an efficient method that would work something like this EDIT: Sorry I didn't put what I'd tried before. I updated the example now. // Method signature, Only replaces first instance or how many are specified in max public int MyReplace(ref string source, string org, string replace, int start, int max) { int ret = 0; int len = replace.Length; int olen = org.Length; for(int i = 0; i < max; i++) { // Find the next instance of the search string int x = source.IndexOf(org, ret + olen); if(x > ret) ret = x; else break; // Insert the replacement source = source.Insert(x, replace); // And remove the original source = source.Remove(x + len, olen); // removes original string } return ret; } string source = "The cat can fly but only if he is the cat in the hat"; int i = MyReplace(ref source,"cat", "giraffe", 8, 1); // Results in the string "The cat can fly but only if he is the giraffe in the hat" // i contains the index of the first letter of "giraffe" in the new string The only reason I'm asking is because my implementation I'd imagine getting slow with 1,000s of replaces.

  • Serializing a DataType="time" field using XmlSerializer

  • Best way to randomly select rows *per* column in SQL Server

    - by LesterDove
A search of SO yields many results describing how to select random rows of data from a database table. My requirement is a bit different, though, in that I'd like to select individual columns from across random rows in the most efficient/random/interesting way possible. To better illustrate: I have a large Customers table, and from that I'd like to generate a bunch of fictitious demo Customer records that aren't real people. I'm thinking of just querying randomly from the Customers table, and then randomly pairing FirstNames with LastNames, Address, City, State, etc. So if this is my real Customer data (simplified): FirstName LastName State ========================== Sally Simpson SD Will Warren WI Mike Malone MN Kelly Kline KS Then I'd generate several records that look like this: FirstName LastName State ========================== Sally Warren MN Kelly Malone SD Etc. My initial approach works, but it lacks the elegance that I'm hoping the final answer will provide. (I'm particularly unhappy with the repetitiveness of the subqueries, and the fact that this solution requires a known/fixed number of fields and therefore isn't reusable.) SELECT FirstName = (SELECT TOP 1 FirstName FROM Customer ORDER BY newid()), LastName= (SELECT TOP 1 LastNameFROM Customer ORDER BY newid()), State = (SELECT TOP 1 State FROM Customer ORDER BY newid()) Thanks!

  • Implementing Model-level caching

    - by Byron
I was posting some comments in a related question about MVC caching and some questions about actual implementation came up. How does one implement a Model-level cache that works transparently without the developer needing to manually cache, yet still remains efficient? I would keep my caching responsibilities firmly within the model. It is none of the controller's or view's business where the model is getting data. All they care about is that when data is requested, data is provided - this is how the MVC paradigm is supposed to work. (Source: Post by Jarrod) The reason I am skeptical is because caching should usually not be done unless there is a real need, and shouldn't be done for things like search results. So somehow the Model itself has to know whether or not the SELECT statement being issued to it worthy of being cached. Wouldn't the Model have to be astronomically smart, and/or store statistics of what is being most often queried over a long period of time in order to accurately make a decision? And wouldn't the overhead of all this make the caching useless anyway? Also, how would you uniquely identify a query from another query (or more accurately, a resultset from another resultset)? What about if you're using prepared statements, with only the parameters changing according to user input? Another poster said this: I would suggest using the md5 hash of your query combined with a serialized version of your input arguments. This would require twice the number of serialization options. I was under the impression that serialization was quite expensive, and for large inputs this might be even worse than just re-querying. And is the minuscule chance of collision worth worrying about? Conceptually, caching in the Model seems like a good idea to me, but it seems in practicality the developer should have direct control over caching and write it into the controller. Thoughts/ideas? Edit: I'm using PHP and MySQL if that helps to narrow your focus.

  • What is the Difference between GC.GetTotalMemory(false) and GC.GetTotalMemory(true)

    - by somaraj
    Hi, Could some one tell me the difference between GC.GetTotalMemory(false) and GC.GetTotalMemory(true); I have a small program and when i compared the results the first loop gives an put put < loop count 0 Diff = 32 for GC.GetTotalMemory(true); and < loop count 0 Diff = 0 for GC.GetTotalMemory(false); but shouldnt it be the otherway ? Smilarly rest of the loops prints some numbers ,which are different for both case. what does this number indicate .why is it changing as the loop increase. struct Address { public string Streat; } class Details { public string Name ; public Address address = new Address(); } class emp :IDisposable { public Details objb = new Details(); bool disposed = false; #region IDisposable Members public void Dispose() { Disposing(true); } void Disposing(bool disposing) { if (!disposed) disposed = disposing; objb = null; GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } #endregion } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { long size1 = GC.GetTotalMemory(false); emp empobj = null; for (int i = 0; i < 200;i++ ) { // using (empobj = new emp()) //------- (1) { empobj = new emp(); //------- (2) empobj.objb.Name = "ssssssssssssssssss"; empobj.objb.address.Streat = "asdfasdfasdfasdf"; } long size2 = GC.GetTotalMemory(false); Console.WriteLine( "loop count " +i + " Diff = " +(size2-size1)); } } } }

  • Strings exported from a module have changed line breaks

    - by Jesse Millikan
In a DrScheme project, I'm using a MrEd editor-canvas% with text% and inserting a string from a literal in a Scheme file. This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. I've tracked this down to the apparent fact that string literals from outside modules are getting extra line breaks. Here's a full example. The editor is irrelevant at this point, but it displays the result. ; test-literals.ss (module test-literals scheme (provide (all-defined-out)) (define exported-string "From another module with some more line breaks. ")) ; editor-test.ss (module editor-test scheme (require mred "test-literals.ss") (define w (instantiate frame% ("Editor Test" #f) )) (define c (instantiate editor-canvas% (w) (line-count 12) (min-width 400))) (define editor (instantiate text% ())) (send c set-editor editor) (send w show #t) (send editor erase) (send editor insert "Some text with some line breaks. ") (send editor insert exported-string)) And the result in the editor is Some text with some line breaks. From another module with some more line breaks. I've traced in and figured out that it's changing Unix line breaks to Windows line breaks when strings are imported from another module, but these display as double line breaks. Why is this happening and is there a way to stop it other than changing every imported string?
