  • Static variable for optimization

    - by keithjgrant
    I'm wondering if I can use a static variable for optimization: public function Bar() { static $i = moderatelyExpensiveFunctionCall(); if ($i) { return something(); } else { return somethingElse(); } } I know that once $i is initialized, it won't be changed by by that line of code on successive calls to Bar(). I assume this means that moderatelyExpensiveFunctionCall() won't be evaluated every time I call, but I'd like to know for certain. Once PHP sees a static variable that has been initialized, does it skip over that line of code? In other words, is this going to optimize my execution time if I make a lot of calls to Bar(), or am I wasting my time?

  • grailsApplication not getting injected in a service , Grails 2.1.0

    - by vijay tyagi
    I have service in which i am accessing few configuration properties from grailsApplication I am injecting it like this class MyWebService{ def grailsApplication WebService webService = new WebService() def getProxy(url, flag){ return webService.getClient(url) } def getResponse(){ def proxy = getProxy(grailsApplication.config.grails.wsdlURL, true) def response = proxy.getItem(ItemType) return response } } When i call getProxy() method, i see this in tomcat logs No signature of method: org.example.MyWebService.getProxy() is applicable for argument types: (groovy.util.ConfigObject, java.lang.Boolean) values: [[:], true] Possible solutions: getProxy(), getProxy(java.lang.String, boolean), setProxy(java.lang.Object) which means grailsApplication is not getting injected into the service, is there any alternate way to access configuration object ? according to burtbeckwith's post configurationholder has been deprecated, can't think of anything else. Interestingly the very same service works fine in my local IDE(GGTS 3.1.0), that means locally grailsApplication is getting injected, but when i create a war to deploy to a standalone tomcat, it stops getting injected.

    - by Di Zou
    In my urls.py I have this: (r'^myapp/$', 'myapp.views.views.index'), (r'^myapp/login/$', 'myapp.views.views.login_user'), In my settings.py I have this: LOGIN_URL = '/myapp/login' In my views.py I have this: @login_required((login_url='/myapp/login/') def index(request): return render_to_response('index.html') def login_user(request): #login stuff return render(request, 'registration/login.html', {'state':state, 'username': username}) I can go to mysite.com/myapp/login and the login page works. However, when I go to mysite.com/myapp/index I do not get redirected to the login page even though I am logged out. Why is that and how do I fix it?

  • Generate a valid array key from an URL string in PHP

    - by John Riche
    I have a PHP array with some predefined values: $aArray = array( 0 => 'value0', 1 => 'value1' ); I need to create a function where the string input will always return the same, valid, array key so that when I call: GiveMeAKey('http://www.google.com'); // May return 0 or 1 I receive always the same key (I don't care which one) from the array. Obvisously I can't store the relationship in a database and the string passed to the GiveMeAKey method can be any URL. I wonder if there is a way of doing that ?

  • How do I search for values in a dictionary

    - by fishhead
    what would be the best way to search for a value in a dictionary. for instance I would like to search for modified objects, would going through the entire collection be the only way to do this? c#, .net 2.0 class RecA { public bool modified {get;set:} public string{get;set;} } class RecA_Dic : Dictionary<int,Rec_A> { public bool GetItemByKey(int key,out obj) { return this.TryGetValue(key, out obj); } public List<Rec_A> getModifiedItems() { List<Rec_A> li = new List<Rec_A>(); for(int i=0;i<this.count;i++) if (((Rec_A)this[i]).modified == true) li.Add((Rec_A)this[i]); return li; } }

  • Why am I getting a Java NoSuchPortException when the port exists?

    - by user258526
    Got the following production code below, I'm using it for a new driver. portName is COM4 and this port exists on the PC (and I can connect to it with hyperterminal), so why does Javacomm throw a NoSuchPortException? COM4 shows up fine in device mgr. too final String portName = getSerialPort(); try { final CommPortIdentifier id = CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifier(portName); port = (SerialPort) id.open(getName(), 1000); } catch (NoSuchPortException nspe) { report(SeverityCode.LEVEL2, getName(), "PIN Pad is not connected to " + portName + " port, or the port does not exist."); return; } catch (PortInUseException piue) { report(SeverityCode.LEVEL2, getName(), portName + " port is already in-use by some other device. Reason: " + piue.getMessage()); return; }

  • Why do they initialize pointers this way?

    - by Rob
    In almost all of the books I read and examples I go through I see pointers initialized this way. Say that I have a class variable NSString *myString that I want to initialize. I will almost always see that done this way: -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *tempString = [[NSString alloc] init]; myString = tempString; [tempString release]; } return self; } Why can't I just do the following? -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { myString = [[NSString alloc] init]; } return self; } I don't see why the extra tempString is ever needed in the first place, but I could be missing something here with memory management. Is the way I want to do things acceptable or will it cause some kind of leak? I have read the Memory Management Guide on developer.apple.com and unless I am just missing something, I don't see the difference.

  • Simulating python's With statement in java

    Is there something like Python with context manager in Java? For example say I want to do something like the following: getItem(itemID){ Connection c = C.getConnection(); c.open(); try{ Item i = c.query(itemID); }catch(ALLBunchOfErrors){ c.close(); } c.close(); return c; } where in python I just have: with( C.getConnection().open() as c): Item i = c.query(itemID); return i;

  • Long key press handling in android 1.5

    - by Kaillash

Here is the code. public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { if (keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK) { if(event.getRepeatCount()==0) { // normal key press // But problem is, this code is hitting for long press also, how to avoid this } else { // Long key press //Do something here } // Always consume back key event by returning true //so that default behavior of back is overrided return true; } return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event); }

  • What is the best way to handle dynamic content_type in Sinatra

    - by lusis
    I'm currently doing the following but it feels "kludgy": module Sinatra module DynFormat def dform(data,ct) if ct == 'xml';return data.to_xml;end if ct == 'json';return data.to_json;end end end helpers DynFormat end My goal is to plan ahead. Right now we're only working with XML for this particular web service but we want to move over to JSON as soon as all the components in our stack support it. Here's a sample route: get '/api/people/named/:name/:format' do format = params[:format] h = {'xml' => 'text/xml','json' => 'application/json'} content_type h[format], :charset => 'utf-8' person = params[:name] salesperson = Salespeople.find(:all, :conditions => ['name LIKE ?', "%#{person}%"]) "#{dform(salesperson,format)}" end It just feels like I'm not doing it the best way possible.

  • What's the difference? eval() or just call the function directly?

    - by question_about_the_problem
    I'm not php expert and I don't know what's the difference(1) between a and b. a.)eval('return "'.base64_decode("encoded_text").'";') b.)base64_decode("encoded_text") -I THINK, a is php code and b is just string. And my other question is: What is the difference(2) between c and d? c.)eval('return "'.base64_decode("encoded_text").'";') d.)eval(base64_decode("encoded_text")) So I have 2 questions. Who can answer/help ? Thanks.

  • python [lxml] - cleaning out html tags

    - by sadhu_
    from lxml.html.clean import clean_html, Cleaner def clean(text): try: cleaner = Cleaner(scripts=True, embedded=True, meta=True, page_structure=True, links=True, style=True, remove_tags = ['a', 'li', 'td']) print (len(cleaner.clean_html(text))- len(text)) return cleaner.clean_html(text) except: print 'Error in clean_html' print sys.exc_info() return text I put together the above (ugly) code as my initial forays into python land. I'm trying to use lxml cleaner to clean out a couple of html pages, so in the end i am just left with the text and nothing else - but try as i might, the above doesnt appear to work as such, i'm still left with a substial amount of markup (and it doesnt appear to be broken html), and particularly links, which aren't getting removed, despite the args i use in remove_tags and links=True any idea whats going on, perhaps im barking up the wrong tree with lxml ? i thought this was the way to go with html parsing in python?

  • Class design question (Disposable and singleton behavior)

    - by user137348
    The Repository class has singleton behavior and the _db implements the disposable pattern. As excepted the _db object gets disposed after the first call and because of the singleton behavior any other call of _db will crash. [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode=InstanceContextMode.Single)] public class Repository : IRepository { private readonly DataBase _db; public Repository(DataBase db) { _db = db; } public int GetCount() { using(_db) { return _db.Menus.Count(); } } public Item GetItem(int id) { using(_db) { return _db.Menus.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.Id == id); } } } My question is, is there any way to design this class to work properly without removing the singleton behavior? The Repositoryclass will be serving big amount of requests.

  • Is call to function object inlined?

    - by dehmann
    In the following code, Foo::add calls a function via a function object: struct Plus { inline int operator()(int x, int y) const { return x + y; } }; template<class Fct> struct Foo { Fct fct; Foo(Fct f) : fct(f) {} inline int add(int x, int y) { return fct(x,y); // same efficiency adding directly? } }; Is this the same efficiency as calling x+y directly in Foo::add? In other words, does the compiler typically directly replace fct(x,y) with the actual call, inlining the code, when compiling with optimizations enabled?

  • how to kill an older jsonp request?

    - by pfg
    I have a cross-domain long polling request using getJSON with a callback that looks something like this: $.getJSON("http://long-polling.com/some.fcgi?jsoncallback=?" function(data){ if(data.items[0].rval == 1) { // update data in page } }); The problem is the request to the long-polling service might take a while to return, and another getJSON request might be made in the meantime and update the page even though it is a stale response. Req1: h**p://long-polling.com/some.fcgi at 10:00 AM Req2: h**p://long-polling.com/some.fcgi? at 10:01 AM Req1 returns and updates the data on the page 10:02 AM I want a way to invalidate the return from Req1 if Req2 has already been made. Thanks!
