  • WinForms / .Net interactive world map - how?

    In a CD collection program, I have each artist's country of origin stored in the main database and want to display a map of the world which: Colour-codes each country depending on the number of CDs by artists in that country Allows clicking on each country to filter a list of CDs to only ones by artists in that country This is a heavily simplified version of what I'm trying to do, but if I can at least get this far the rest should be easy enough to figure out. So far the closest thing I've found to what I'm trying to do is here: http://www.synergetechsolutions.com/blog/analytics-world-map-control Ideally I don't want to be embedding Flash in my program though, and the only other solutions I've found all involve SVG which I haven't managed to get working in practice outside of a web browser control (and I DEFINITELY don't want to be embedding a browser in the forms). Something in pure managed code and either GDI+ or WPF would be preferable. Are there any existing components that would get me started, or can anyone suggest how to approach it from scratch?

  • No Hibernate Exception on the same insert of data

    Hi All, Hibernate Newbie here. I am quite unsure why I am not getting any exception when I am executing below code. On first attempt, this code creates the Book Entry on my Book Table. But my concern is that when I execute below code again, no error was pop out by Hibernate.   • Silverlight 4 ComboBox - Binding to Nullable data (tried TargetNullValue but not working as expected)

    (Please note - I am a Silverlight beginner and am looking for the simplest solution here, e.g. that doesn't involve writing/installing a replacement for the ComboBox control!) This is an issue with a Silverlight 4 application that uses the View Model (MVVM) approach. I have a simple form for editing a "Product" object. Product has a CategoryID property which is nullable (int?). A ComboBox is used to view and set the CategoryID - this is bound to an ObservableCollection of Categories. Product also has number of non-nullable properties bound to TextBoxes. I want the user to see "N/A" in the ComboBox for a product with no category, and to be use this "N/A" option to set CategoryID to null. So, I manually added a Category object with CategoryID=0 and CategoryName="N/A" to the collection; then I set TargetNullValue=0 in the SelectedValue Binding of the ComboBox. My thinking was - when the ComboBox SelectedValue was bound to a null CategoryID it would substitute zero, and therefore select the "N/A" option. When editing a Product with a non-null CategoryID, everything works. However when a null CategoryID is found, two problems occur: No option is selected in the ComboBox (its blank) The ComboBox binding seems broken from this point onwards - any Product I subsequently edit (incl. ones with a non-null CategoryID) have nothing selected in the ComboBox (its still populated with all categories - just no selected item). I've seen reports of problem #2 (here, here) but I was under the impression that #1 should have worked. What am I missing to get the "N/A" option to be selected?   • JQuery Autocomplete - Stop mouseover+Return submitting data

    I'm using JQuery Autocomplete (bassistance) and have run into a problem. If the mouse rolls over one of the autocomplete suggestions and the user hits the return key (rather than clicking to make selection), the form is submitted and goes to whatever link was rolled over at the time. This is a problem as people click in the textbox, and when typing their search, leave the pointer where the autocomplete popup appears. So when they hit enter, it doesn't do the search for whatever they typed in the box but whatever was highlighted in the autocomplete suggestions. Is there a way to stop this? Using Google as the functionality I'm after... So just to clarify - I want selections via mouse and keyboard to go to the same place, but if the UP or DOWN arrow has not been pressed (user not selected an autocomplete option via the keyword), dont go to the URL specified in the autosuggest - instead submit the form (traditional method without JQuery) based on what has been typed in the textbox. I hope I'm explaining this clearly? :S

  • Is it possible to add IPTC data to a JPG using python when no such data already exists?

    With the IPTCInfo module under Python (http://snippets.dzone.com/posts/show/768 for more info) it's possible to read, modify and write IPTC info to pictures. However, if a JPG doesn't already have IPTC information, the module simply raises an exception. It doesn't seem to be able to create and add this metadata information itself. What alternatives are there? I've googled for the past hour but to no avail whatsoever.

  • sending data packet just before closing socket

    Before disconnect the client, the server wants to send some info to the client - why do I(server) disconnect you(client). If I send packet to the info and close the client socket immediately, closesocket() returns -1 and if I use linger option to work closesocket() successfully, the info cannot be sent completely. How can I complete this and is it possible to know socket buffer is empty(means my packet sent all)? thx.

  • wordpress -> showing custom data from child pages + pagination

You can see here what i am doing: http://www.arvag.net/otkrijte-svet/leto/ So its pulling 2 custom fields from child pages, one of them is just url for the image on the left, and the other field is that text showing on the right. Now, what i want to do is to add pagination there. The code i have now will just simply show all child pages, but i want to show only 5 child pages, so if user want to see 6th child page he would have to click on link for "Page 2" and so on.     How do I count the number of records in a MySQL table based on a timestamp column per unit of time where the unit of time is arbitrary? Specifically, I want to count how many record's timestamps fell into 15 minute buckets during a given interval. I understand how to do this in buckets of 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day etc. using MySQL date functions, e.g. SELECT YEAR(datefield) Y, MONTH(datefield) M, DAY(datefield) D, COUNT(*) Cnt FROM mytable GROUP BY YEAR(datefield), MONTH(datefield), DAY(datefield) but how can I group by 15 minute buckets?

    Our application do the following. 1. Start the transaction. 2. Execute a query using prepared statement 3. Check a condition to see the number of rows updated are equal to the required number. 4. It commits on success of above condition otherwise it will roll back However the problem is that when two threads are simultaneously enter this code. Thread-1 is updating a row in step 2. It checked the condition and committed successfully since the condition is successful. Thread-2 started execution somewhere between steps 1 & 4, and it is failing on at condition checking at step 3 (as it is getting number of updated rows as 0). I expected second thread to throw an exception but it is not. What could be the problem?

  • How do I find all paths through a set of given nodes in a DAG?

    I have a list of items (blue nodes below) which are categorized by the users of my application. The categories themselves can be grouped and categorized themselves. The resulting structure can be represented as a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) where the items are sinks at the bottom of the graph's topology and the top categories are sources. Note that while some of the categories might be well defined, a lot is going to be user defined and might be very messy. Example: On that structure, I want to perform the following operations: find all items (sinks) below a particular node (all items in Europe) find all paths (if any) that pass through all of a set of n nodes (all items sent via SMTP from example.com) find all nodes that lie below all of a set of nodes (intersection: goyish brown foods) The first seems quite straightforward: start at the node, follow all possible paths to the bottom and collect the items there. However, is there a faster approach? Remembering the nodes I already passed through probably helps avoiding unnecessary repetition, but are there more optimizations? How do I go about the second one? It seems that the first step would be to determine the height of each node in the set, as to determine at which one(s) to start and then find all paths below that which include the rest of the set. But is this the best (or even a good) approach? The graph traversal algorithms listed at Wikipedia all seem to be concerned with either finding a particular node or the shortest or otherwise most effective route between two nodes. I think both is not what I want, or did I just fail to see how this applies to my problem? Where else should I read?
