  • what libraries or platforms should I use to build web apps that provide real-time, asynchronous data

    This is a less a question with a simple, practical answer and more a question to foster discussion on the real-time data exchange topic. I'll begin with an example: Google Wave is, at its core, a real-time asynchronous data synchronization engine. Wave supports (or plans to support) concurrent (real-time) document collaboration, disconnected (offline) document editing, conflict resolution, document history and playback with attribution, and server federation. A core part of Wave is the Operational Transformation engine: http://www.waveprotocol.org/whitepapers/operational-transform The OT engine manages document state. Changes between clients are merged and each client has a sane and consistent view of the document at all times; the final document is eventually consistent between all connected clients. My question is: is this system abstract or general enough to be used as a library or generic framework upon which to build web apps that synchronize real-time, asynchronous state in each client? Is the Wave protocol directly used by any current web applications (besides Google's client)? Would it make sense to directly use it for generic state synchronization in a web app? What other existing libraries or frameworks would you consider using when building such a web app? How much code in such an app might be domain-specific logic vs generic state synchronization logic? Or, put another way, how leaky might the state synchronization abstractions be? Comments and discussion welcomed!

    Hi, Its been a couple of weeks that some sites just keeps on hanging. e.g. Facebooks = static.ak.fbcdn.net FLicker = l.yimg.com GoogleAnalytics I've googled and found many problems like this and some answers which are outdated or just doesn't solve the problem. I did: Cookies clearing, ran cc cleaner and several other nifty methods. None solved my problem?? Only with facebook, if I enter https:// manually instead of http:// on every url on facebook, it works and when it does the redirection to http://, everytime I have to type 's' on the address bar to make it https:// It is driving me nuts coz I'm developing Facebook App and this problem in being pain in my ass. What might be the reason for these CDNs hanging behaviour?? This feature of the program is for the user to track their speed, distance, path, etc. while running/cycling (or whatever else) using their Android phone.   • In Magento, is it possible to populate your product models from an external API instead of the Magento DB?

    I currently have Magento 1.7 CE installed. I want to use the Magento Product Models, except I want to get the price for the product from an external API (our pricing exists outside of Magento). I know what I could use the Magento API to import all the prices from our existing database, but our pricing changes very often, and we would then need to maintain two databases. Basically I'm wondering if there is something in Magento I can overwrite to call our API instead of the DB?

  • Sphinx non-fulltext, integer only search

    Hello guys, I've got a few tables that literally only hold integers, no "words" and for some reason Sphinx is unable to hold this data in it's library. Just returns "0 bytes" errors for these indexes. Is it possible to do this? If so, how? It does not even show the sortable icons on the column header, and nothing happens even if the header is clicked. Sorting does not work, whether loadonce is true or false. If I try Searching (after setting loadonce to true) for the column meta.status (other columns without dot notation is okay), then it throws up a javascript error like this. Any help? Thanks Moorthy

I have a web-page in my application where the User enters:- 1.StartDate (DateTime) 2.EndDate (DateTime) 3.Period(Daily/Weekly/Monthly) (varchar) (from DropDownList) I want to get the Record Count of those calls in my table *TRN_Call* on the basis of the specified Period(Daily/Weekly/Monthly) selected by user in the DropDownList. e.g. StartDate ='1/18/2010 11:10:46 AM' EndDate ='1/25/2010 01:10:46 AM' Period =Daily So the record count between these above mentioned dates(StartDate+EndDate) should come in a manner so that I can refer to those counts separately i.e. the following:- Date 1/18/2010 Records Found 5 Date 1/19/2010 Records Found 50 Date 1/20/2010 Records Found 15 Date 1/21/2010 Records Found 32 Date 1/22/2010 Records Found 12 Date 1/23/2010 Records Found 15 Date 1/24/2010 Records Found 17 Date 1/25/2010 Records Found 32 and send those Counts to the Web Application so that these counts could be listed then in the Crystal Reports.

    I am aware of this command: cvs log -N -w<userid> -d"1 day ago" Unfortunately this generates a formatted report with lots of newlines in it, such that the file-path, the file-version, and the comment-text are all on separate lines. Therefore it is difficult to scan it for all occurrences of comment text, (eg, grep), and correlate the matches to file/version. (Note that the log output would be perfectly acceptable, if only cvs could perform the filtering natively.) EDIT: Sample output. When I open up the created SQLite DB, the new Product with Code 9 is in it. the tables for Product and ProductLog are there. I actually get pretty nasty exception chain. To save you lots of head aches, here is the summary: Top Level exception: An invalid or incomplete configuration was used while creating a SessionFactory. Check PotentialReasons collection, and InnerException for more detail.\r\n\r\n The PotentialReasons collection is empty The Inner exception: The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. Both the unit test library and the console application reference the exact same version of System.Data.SQLite. Both projects have the exact same DLLs in the debug folder. I even tried copying SQLite DB the unit test library created into the debug directory of the console app, and removed the build schema lines and it still fails If anyone can help me figure out why this won't work outside of my unit tests it would be greatly appreciated. This crazy bug has me at a stand still.

    Ok here is my problem : Before i start the description, let me to tell you that I have googled up a lot and I am posting this question for a good optimal solution :) i am building a rest service on WCF to get userProfiles... the user can filter userProfiles by giving something like userProfiles?location=London now i have the following method GetUserProfiles(string firstname, string lastname, string age, string location) the sql query string i built is: select firstname, lastname, .... from profiles where (firstName like '%{firstname}%') AND (lastName like '%{lastName}%') ....and so on with all variables being replaced by string formatter. Problem with this is that it filters any row having firstname, lastname, age or location having a null value.... doing something like (firstName like '%{firstName}%' OR firstName IS NULL) would be tedious and the statement would become unmaintanable! (in this example there are only 4 arguments, but in my actual method there are 10) What would be the best solution for this?....How is this situation usually handled? Database used : MySql

  • using compareTo in Binary Search Tree program

    I've been working on this program for a few days now and I've implemented a few of the primary methods in my BinarySearchTree class such as insert and delete. Insert seemed to be working fine, but once I try to delete I kept getting errors. So after playing around with the code I wanted to test my compareTo methods. I created two new nodes and tried to compare them and I get this error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: TreeNode cannot be cast to java.lang.Integer at java.lang.Integer.compareTo(Unknown Source) at TreeNode.compareTo(TreeNode.java:16) at BinarySearchTree.myComparision(BinarySearchTree.java:177) at main.main(main.java:14) Here is my class for creating the nodes: public class TreeNode<T> implements Comparable { protected TreeNode<T> left, right; protected Object element; public TreeNode(Object obj) { element=obj; left=null; right=null; } public int compareTo(Object node) { return ((Comparable) this.element).compareTo(node); } } Am I doing the compareTo method all wrong? I would like to create trees that can handle integers and strings (seperatly of course)
