  I have a system where employees can upload files. There are three ways Upload to my account in public, private or protected mode Upload to department account in public, private or protected mode Upload to organization account in public, private or protected mode where public is visible to anyone, private to the group or person only and protected to anyone in the organization. All the files for an organization are stored in a directory say, /files/<organizationId>/, on file server like files +-- 234809 | +img1.jpg | +doc1.pdf +-- 808234 | +doc2.pdf I am storing file-path and privacy level in DB. So, I can control whether to show link to a file URL to an user -- on a given page. The problem is, I do not have any control over file's URL... so, if some one types the URL to img1.jpg in his browser's address bar, there is no way to know whether a logged in user is eligible to see img1.jpg. • PyQt: How to keep QTreeView nodes correctly expanded after a sort

  I'm writing a simple test program using QTreeModel and QTreeView for a more complex project later on. In this simple program, I have data in groups which may be contracted or expanded, as one would expect in a QTreeView. The data may also be sorted by the various data columns (QTreeView.setSortingEnabled is True). Each tree item is a list of data, so the sort function implemented in the TreeModel class uses the built-in python list sort: self.layoutAboutToBeChanged.emit() self.rootItem.childItems.sort(key=lambda x: x.itemData[col], reverse=order) for item in self.rootItem.childItems: item.childItems.sort(key=lambda x: x.itemData[col], reverse=order) self.layoutChanged.emit() The problem is that whenever I change the sorting of the root's child items (the tree is only 2 levels deep, so this is the only level with children) the nodes aren't necessarily expanded as they were before. If I change the sorting back without expanding or collapsing anything, the nodes are expanded as before the sorting change. Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I suspect it's something with not properly reassigning QModelIndex with the sorted nodes, but I'm not sure.

  Head swimming with the product name soup at http://www.terracotta.org. Need someone to help clarify what I need. Background: app has some "legacy" persistence code that does not use Hibernate, but has a home-grown cache implementation. New entities are Hibernate enabled. What I want: to use Terracotta for Hibernate 2nd level cache. I think I then want to slide out the home-grown cache impl and slide in ehcache (very similar semantically to home-grown version) - obviously I want Terracotta to back that EHCache as well. Confused with: Will I be telling Hibernate that ehcache is it's cache provider, then configure ehcache to use terracotta? So (hibernate | legacy-persistence)- ehcache - terracotta Am I on the right track? Forgive the newb question but the terracotta.org site really confuses me since so much of it it trying to sell me the commercial varieties.

I reckon the field "appId" is meant for this, but this field is empty in the response.

• Why darcs instead of git?

  Using pure functional languages can have a lot of benefits over using impure imperatives but low level systems languages will generally allow you to achieve much greater performance especially when they are imperative because it allows you to specify the exact steps in how the cpu should compute the result. If there is ever list of tools where high performance is an absolute must then I would put source version controls systems right at the top of that list and git achieves this very well but performance is not it's only advantage over many other other types of version control systems anyway. The git team are handling the unsafe c code very well and I never worry about my type system or any other features of the language it is written in so why is it that there is a lot of haskell developers that must use darcs when they will only be using the finished product?

• Getting Line Numbers for Errors Thrown in SQL Server CLR Runtime

  Hi all, I've created a CLR stored procedure that I'm running on SQL 2k5 and I'm wondering if there's any way to get line numbers for exceptions thrown by the .NET code. When an Exception is thrown, I get something along the lines of Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure myProcedure, Line 0 A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate "myProcedure": System.Exception: testing exception System.Exception: at DummyDLL.myProcedure (String dummyInput) . Is there some way I can load the assembly to give me specific line numbers rather than just the function in which the error was thrown? The assembly itself was compiled with a .pdb, but SQL 2k5 doesn't appear to be reading it in when I load the assembly initially. Thanks!

  I have two instances of SQL Server: Server1 (SQL Server 2008) Server2 (SQL Server 2005) I am executing a stored procedure from Server1 which references tables on Server2. It is working fine in my test environment: Server1 runs Vista SP2, SQL Server 2008; Server2 runs Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005. However, it is not working in the production environment: Server1 runs Vista SP1, SQL Server 2008; Server2 runs Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005. The error message I receive is: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Server2" returned message "No transaction is active.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 21 The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Server2" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

• mod_rewrite to find missing /img/foo.jpg in /img/f/

  I've got a folder of images which is reaching a critical mass after a few years. I want to move images into alphabetical folders, so that /img/foo.jpg goes into /img/f/foo.jpg and /img/bar.jpg goes into /img/b/bar.jpg and so on. In order to make the transition smooth, and to allow the manual uploaders to put stuff into the top level, I'd like to use mod_rewrite to do this: if /img/foo.jpg exists, serve it up, if not look for it in /img/f/foo.jpg thanks for any suggestions. For the record, no, I don't think we need to go /img/f/fo/foo.jpg just yet.

• Mixin or Trait implementation in AS3?

  I'm looking for ideas on how to implement a Mixin/Trait style system in AS3. I want to be able to compose a number of classes together into a single object. Of course this is not a language level feature of AS3, but I'm hoping that there is maybe some way to do this using prototype based techniques or maybe some bytecode hacking that I believe AsMock uses to implement it's functionality. An existing Java example is Qi4J where the user define interfaces that the Qi4j framework implements based on metadata tags and coding by convention. Has anyone any ideas on how to get the Mixin/Trait concept working within AS3?

  Hey Guys I have a website and am planning to develop a mobile version of it for the iphone, blackberry and android. My website is a social network built on PHP Zend framework. Now all these mobile apps are going to be having the same functionality like the website. I am little ignorant about this - but from a high level I understand that all these mobile apps should not have to write any backend logic. For every functionality - they will simply make a web service API call to interact with the backend. So does that mean, for every functionality I need to create a web service method. • MS Access Print Report using VBA

  I have a very VBA intensive report. When I preview it everything is great but when I print it after previewing things go wacky. I have spent many hours narrowing down the possibilities and I have conclude with a certain level of confidence that it is a but in MS Access. Up to this point my method for printing reports was to open the report using docmd.openreport "report". I then use the docmd.printout command so that I can set the page range, collation etc. Is there a way to print a report directly and still be able to set options like page rage, collate etc without doing a preview first? • Transparent Background with a Modal UIViewController

  I have a dilema, I want to present to the user a semi-transparent view. I found out by experimenting that if I simply pushed the transparent view to the top of my NavigationController's stack, that it would not render the transparency level I wanted. So I decided to simply add the view as a subview of the current view at the top of the stack. This solution works, the view below is still visible, and the View is 'semi-modal'. The problem is, if the parent view inherits from UITableViewController (as mine does), then the view I 'push' onto it, does not cover the navigation bar at the top. I really don't want to get into a situation where I am forced to enable / disable controls on the navigation bar every time I push this view, so I was wondering, if anyone knew of any solutions that I could use so that the view I push onto the UITableViewController will actually 'push over' the navigation bar?

• Is it naughty to have a large utility file?

  In my C project I have quite a large utils.c file. It is really full of many utilities of different sorts. I feel a bit naughty just stuffing different miscellaneous functions in there. For example it has some utilities related to low level stuff such as a lowercase() function, and it also has some quite sophisticated utilities such as converting to/from different colour formats. My question is, is it very naughty to have such a large utils.c with many different types of utilities in it? Should I break it up into many different kinds of utility files? Such as graphics_utils.c and so on What do you think?

• Dataset field DBNull -> int?

  SQLServer int field. Value sometimes null. DataAdapter fills dataset OK and can display data in DatagridView OK. When trying to retrieve the data programmatically from the dataset the Dataset field retrieval code throws a StronglyTypedException error. When the dataset structure is modified (Still developing) my changes (unsurprisingly) are gone. What is the best way to handle this situation? It seems I am stuck with dealing with it at the dataset level. Is there some sort of attribute that can tell the auto code generator to leave the changes in place?
