  • Optimize SQL with Interbase

    I was inspired by the good answers from my previous question about SQL. Now this SQL is run on a DB with Interbase 2009. It is about 21 GB in size. SELECT DistanceAsMeters, Bold_Id, Created, AddressFrom.CityName_CO as FromCity, AddressTo.CityName_CO as ToCity FROM AddrDistance LEFT JOIN Address AddressFrom ON AddrDistance.FromAddress = AddressFrom.Bold_Id LEFT JOIN Address AddressTo ON AddrDistance.ToAddress = AddressTo.Bold_Id Where DistanceAsMeters = 0 and PseudoDistanceAsCostKm = 0 and not AddrDistance.bold_id in (select bold_id from DistanceQueryTask) Order By Created Desc There are 840000 rows with AddrDistance 190000 rows with Address and 4 with DistanceQueryTask. The question is, can this be done faster? I guess, the same query is run many times select bold_id from DistanceQueryTask. Note that I'm not interested in stored procedures, just plain SQL :)

  • Why doesn't Maven's mvn clean ever work the first time?

    Nine times out of ten when I run mvn clean on my projects I experience a build error. I have to execute mvn clean multiple times until the build error goes away. Does anyone else experience this? Is there any way to fix this within Maven? If not, how do you get around it? I wrote a bat file that deletes the target folders and that works well, but it's not practical when you are working on multiple projects. I am using Maven 2.2.1.     I'm trying to write a C#/.NET application that optimizes the hard drives for our XP workstations Set pagefile to "No paging file" Reboot Run a defrag utility to optimize the data and apps Create a contiguous page file Reboot, run pagedefrag from Sysinternals I'm really struggling with #1. I delete the following key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles Upon reboot, the System Control Panel shows "No page file", but c:\pagefile.sys still exists and its in use by the SYSTEM process so I can't delete it and I can't optimize HD. I tried using PendingFileRenamingOperations and that bombs out too. I tried using WMI: Win32_PageFileSetting, but that only lets you set sizes (not zero--defaults to 2MB). Of course, if I do the manual steps outlined above, it works. I think I need an API call to make this happen.

  • Security exception with ASP.NET AJAX toolkit

    I've got an ASP.NET WebForms app that I've written, which uses the ASP.NET AJAX Toolkit. I've put the MultiView control onto the web form, and it worked fine, when I had it under Vista. Well, I had to replace my machine (HD failed) and I went to Windows 7 Ultimate. I tried copying the ASP.NET app from the system (before it finally failed for good) and put it onto the Windows 7 machine. I can bring up the app fine, go to all pages, but the one with these controls on it. When I do I get the following error: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. What's going on? How do I fix it?

  • Connect ps/2->usb keyboard to linux?

    I have a lovely ancient ergonomic keyboard (no name SK - 6000) connected via a DIN-ps/2 adapter to a ps/2-usb adapter to my docking station. After Grub it stops working. It takes either suspending and waking up or replugging it while Linux is running to get it to work. No extra kernel modules get loaded for this. When it works and I restart without power off, it will work immediately. According to this site (http://code.enthought.com/source/): it says to download the following python script: https://raw.github.com/enthought/ets/master/ets.py I put the ets.py into the python script, save as...and in the Python Shell, I typed in "import ets" However, nothing happens. Also, the site says to run the following commands: $ mkdir ets $ cd ets # and copy ets.py here $ python ets.py clone Typing those lines in Python Shell gives me the message: "SyntaxError: invalid syntax" As you can see, I'm new to Python, and I don't know what I'm doing. How do I download the ETS script and run the commands??

    Hi,I want to run a windbg script that will accomplish the following: I want to track certain registers the moment an API is hit, without stopping due to timing issues. So , the moment the API is called, I want the script to open a logfile, echo the fact that the api is hit with the details of the parameters, and let it run till it hits the conditional brkpoint I've put at the API end, which simply closes the open logfile. Now , the problem is, I want to do this multiple times, w/o the previous logfile getting overwritten. Ideally, if there is some command which lets me specify that the name of the logfile (.logfile file) by the timestamp of that moment, my problem is solved. Can anyone help?

  • Fast single thread comet server, possible?

    I recently encountered a few cases where a server would distribute an event stream that contains the exact same data for all listeners, such as a 'recent activity' box. It occurred to me that it is quite strange and inefficient to have a server like Apache run a thread processing and querying the database for every single comet stream containing the same data. What I would do for those global(not per user) streams is run a single thread that continuously emits data, and a new (green)thread for every new request that outputs the headers and then 'merges' into the main thread. Is it possible for one thread to serve multiple sockets, or for multiple clients to listen to the same socket? An example o = event # threads received | a b # 3 o / / # 3 - |/_/ | # 1 o c # 2 a, b | / o/ # 2 a, b o # 1 a, b, c | # connection b closed o # 1 a, c Does something like this exist? Would it work?   • Problem using System.Xml in unit test in MonoDevelop (MonoTouch)

    I'm new to the MonoDevelop and MonoTouch environment so hopefully I'm just missing something easy here. When I have a unit test that requires the System.Xml or System.Xml.Linq namespaces, I get the following error when I run the test: System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Things I've verified: I have the proper usings in the test. The project builds with no problems. Using these namespaces work fine when I run the app in the emulator. I've written a very simple unit test to prove that unit testing works at all (and it does). I'm a test driven kinda guy so I can't wait to get this working so I can progress with my app. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I'm trying to work out how to get a div (#tips) to appear when the user scrolls into the 2nd quarter of its containing div's height (#wrap), and then have it disappear when the user scrolls into the last quarter.     I would like to run several commands, and capture all output to a logfile. I also want to print any errors to the screen (or optionally mail the output to someone). Here's an example. The following command will run three commands, and will write all output (STDOUT and STDERR) into a single logfile. { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } > logfile.log 2>&1 Here is what I want to do with the output of these commands: STDERR and STDOUT for all commands goes to a logfile, in case I need it later--- I usually won't look in here unless there are problems. Print STDERR to the screen (or optionally, pipe to /bin/mail), so that any error stands out and doesn't get ignored. It would be nice if the return codes were still usable, so that I could do some error handling. Maybe I want to send email if there was an error, like this: { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } logfile.log 2&1 || mailx -s "There was an error" [email protected] The problem I run into is that STDERR loses context during I/O redirection. A '2&1' will convert STDERR into STDOUT, and therefore I cannot view errors if I do 2 error.log Here are a couple juicier examples. Let's pretend that I am running some familiar build commands, but I don't want the entire build to stop just because of one error so I use the '--keep-going' flag. { ./configure && make --keep-going && make install ; } > build.log 2>&1 Or, here's a simple (And perhaps sloppy) build and deploy script, which will keep going in the event of an error. { ./configure && make --keep-going && make install && rsync -av --keep-going /foo devhost:/foo} > build-and-deploy.log 2>&1 I think what I want involves some sort of Bash I/O Redirection, but I can't figure this out.

    I'm working on a C# windows program with Visual Studio 2008. Usually, I work from school, directly on my usb drive. But when I copy the folder on my hard drive at home, an sql exception is unhandled whenever I try to write to the database. it is unhandled at the conn.Open(); line. here's the exception unhandled Database 'L:\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' already exists. Choose a different database name.     Hi, i've created an setup project for a .net-application which works fine. The problem is, that the application begins to write log-files after startup and this requires administrative rights on windows vista and windows 7. I know there are some folders which i could use to write into without administrative rights. When i start the application as administrator, everything works fine. I asked myself, if it's possible to change the setup project in visual studio in a way that the installed application automatically owns administrative rights on the target system?     When I run a query through DBslayer http://code.nytimes.com/projects/dbslayer the floating point results are truncated to a total of six digits (plus decimal point and negative sign when needed). { ... "lat":52.2228,"lng":-2.19906, ... } When I run the same query in MySQL, the results are as expected. | 52.22280884 | -2.19906425 | Firstly, am I correct in identifying DBSlayer as the cause of this effect?   • What do I use when a cron job isn't enough? (php)

    I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to running a pretty hefty PHP task thousands of times a day. It needs to make an IMAP connection to Gmail, loop over the emails, save this info to the database and save images locally. Running this task every so often using a cron isn't that big of a deal, but I need to run it every minute and I know eventually the crons will start running on top of each other and cause memory issues. What is the next step up when you need to efficiently run a task multiple times a minute? I've been reading about beanstalk & pheanstalk and I'm not entirely sure if that will do what I need. Thoughts???

  • Can I use Win32 FreeType without the .dll file?

    Hello. I'm teaching myself OpenGL and I'm implementing ttf text rendering using FreeType 2. I downloaded the library from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/freetype.htm and after a couple of minor issues I got it running properly. The thing that's bothering me is that I have to place a copy of freetype6.dll in the directory with my executable in order for the thing to run. I generally try to avoid a bunch of unnecessary dll files floating around. I'm sort of new to windows programming, but from what I understand most libraries can be built to run fully from a lib rather than requiring a dll at runtime. Looking through the documentation from FT is making my brain melt, so I thought I would ask here to see if there were any devs that have worked with FT before and if so, do they know how to build the library such that no dll is required at runtime.     In ruby, you have an attribute called "type" which is the class of the object. Rails stores this at the database in a column called type. So, if I have several blog "types", I can do something like this def create @blog = Blog.new(params[:blog]) @blog[:type] = params[:blog][:type] # ... end If I add someone like this, and then load it, and ask its class (for instance, at the console), I have the right class name answered back. However, when I save it afterwards, rails will run only the superclass validators, not the ones I defined in the subclass. How should I make rails run the subclass validators?

  • DragDrop registration did not succeed in Setup Project

    Hello, we have some installation project in Visual Studio solution (Other project types - Setup and deployment - Setup project). This project have other library type project with Installation class named InstallationCore like project output. In user action I call to Install and Uninstall functions of installer of InstallationCore. InstallationCore has windows forms for interaction with user. There, in forms, I use Drag and Drop functionality for Drag and Drop text from Tree View to Text Box. But in line: txbUserName.AllowDrop = true; I get error of JIT debugger: Unhandled exception has occured DragDrop registration did not succeed System.InvalidOperationException: DragDrop registration did not succeed And long stack trace after that. Important to say, that when I run Installer function from test project the error did not occur and all work fine. Error occurs only when I run the .msi package. Any suggestions? Thank you for ahead.

  • Using Thor for generators in a Ruby Gem

    How do I setup a Gem to have a binary command eg. "project newProject" that uses Thor's set of generator commands to create files etc.? A good answer would describe how to layout the skeleton of a gem that that when run from the command line "project newProject" creates 1 file named "newProject.txt" in the directory it's run from. I've seen that Rails 3 is using Thor to power it's generators, seems like a really good solution and i'd like to use a similar approach in non-Rails ruby gem i'm working on. Tried looking at the Rails 3 source but it's a bit labyrinthine hence the question.
