• Is MacBook powerful enough to do Ipad development? or do I need a MacBook Pro?

  The title probably says it all. Considering an ipad's processor is nothing compared to a macbook, I would think a Macbook should be more than capable to run the simulator. However, not knowing much about iphone/ipad development, I'd like to get some opinions on this. for e.g. how many apps are typically need to be run for ipad dev (editor, debugger, perf monitor, trace log, etc). are these apps resource (memory, cpu) intensive? please do not take into consideration the actual image, 3d, video, sound development. I understand one would need quite a beefy machine to produce these type of creative assets. What I'm looking at is a machine to do code development, physics, putting together the produced assets (images, vector graphics, 3d video, sound, etc).

• WNetAddConnection2 from a Windows Service

  I'm trying to connect to a remote password protected shared folder from a Windows service, which runs as LocalSystem account. It seems that the LocalSystem account is unable to directly access password-protected network shares using WNetAddConnection2() or similar calls. Can anyone confirm this? I've read that impersonating an administrator user might be the way to go. I've tried using LogonUser() and ImpersonateLoggedOnUser() before WNetAddConnection2(), it appears that the mount of the network path succeeds, but then actual accesses (e.g. enumerating of files in remote folder) fail. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Emacs enum indentation

  I'm having a problem with Emacs's indentation of Java enums. While it indents the first member OK, it wants to give all of the rest of the static enum members an additional level of indentation. It looks like this: class MyClass { public enum MyEnum { ONE(1), //good TWO(2), // not good! THREE(3), FOUR(4); private final int value; } } When I run C-c C-s on the line that opens the enum, it gives me ((inclass 1) (topmost-intro 1)), which doesn't seem quite right -- it seems like it should be giving brace-list-open. When I run it on the first enum member, it gives me ((defun-block-intro 21)), which is definitely not right. Every subsequent member gives (statement-cont 50). I'm in java-mode and I'm using the java style of indentation. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

  Hi Guys, I'm looking at buying a MacBook Pro to replace my tiring laptop. My day to day job is as a .NET web developer so I am looking to use VMWare Fusion to run VS and SQL server etc. As I've not run my dev environment in a VM before, I would like to know how others are setup. What apps to you have installed? In which environment? Where do you store your files? Within each environment, or some shared drive? Are there any gotchas? Or essentials I should know.   I am creating an interpreter for my extension to HQ9+, which has the following extra command called V: V: Interpretes the code as Lua, Brainfuck, INTERCAL, Ruby, ShellScript, Perl, Python, PHP in that order, and if even one error has occoured, run the HQ9+-ABC code again most of them have libraries, BF and INTERCAL can be interpreted without a library, but the problem lies in ShellScript. How can I run a shellscript from my C++ application ( =the HQ9+-ABC interpreter) and when it's done, get the error code (0 = succeded, all others = failed)? So something like this: system(".tempshellscript738319939474"); if(errcode != 0) { (rerun code); } can anyone help me? Thanks

• C#: How do I get the path of the assembly the code is in?

  Is there a way to get the path for the assembly in which the current code resides? I do not want the path of the calling assembly, just the one containing the code. Basically my unit test needs to read some xml test files which are located relative to the dll. I want the path to always resolve correctly regardless of whether the testing dll is run from TestDriven.NET, the MbUnit GUI or something else. Edit: People seem to be misunderstanding what I'm asking. My test library is located in say c:\projects\myapplication\daotests\bin\Debug\daotests.dll and I would like to get the "*c:\projects\myapplication\daotests\bin\Debug*" path. The three suggestions so far fail me when I run from the MbUnit Gui: Console.Out.Write(Environment.CurrentDirectory) gives c:\Program Files\MbUnit Console.Out.Write(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetAssembly(typeof(DaoTests)).Location) gives C:\Documents and Settings\george\Local Settings\Temp\ ....\DaoTests.dll Console.Out.Write(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().Location) gives the same as the previous

• Gson module not found Blackberry Java application

  Hi. I'm developing a simple application for Blackberry and i'm using Google's gson to retrieve some data from a server. The UI was working fine but when I added the gson part it started failing, it wont run. When I run the application in the simulator it show this error: "Uncaught: RuntimeException" on that annoying white screen of death and after holding the click button I can see that there is an alert dialog that says "Module 'gson-1.4' not found". However I did added "gson-1.4.jar" in the Project's Properties - Java Build Path - Add External JARs... also, the Gson objects are recognized at my code, no syntax errors at my code. BTW, I'm using Eclipse and the most recent Blackberry SDK Please help

• Code changes in the Dtsx file in an SSIS package not reflecting after deploying and running on the server

  I have some folder called Test-Deploy in which I keep all the dtsx files, manifest and configuration files. Whenever I want to deploy the ssis package, I run manifest file in this folder and deploy. My problem is I have to change one of the dtsx files out of it. So, I opened only that particular dtsx file BI studio, updated and built. After the build, I copied the dtsx file from bin folder and copied to my Test-Deploy folder. When I deployed and run this new package in the Test-Deploy folder, the changes I made are not reflecting in the result. I could not find any difference in the results before and after changing. My doubt is has it saved my previous dtsx file somewhere on the server and executing the same dtsx file instead of the new one?

  I have a classic ASP website that is crashing in IIS7. It is crashing because IIS doesn't allow file uploads greater than a certain size. I know this because files below about 200k work fine. I removed the Status Code 500 error in IIS but I still don't get a file name and the line where my code failed as I do when running locally. Instead I get: "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error." • Access MP3 audio data independently of ID3 tags?

  Hi, this is a 2 part question. First off, is it possible to access the audio data in an MP3 independently of the ID3 tags, and secondly, is there any way to do so using available libraries? I recently consolidated my music collection from 3 computers and ended up with songs which had changed ID3 tags, but the audio data itself was unmodified. Running a search for duplicate files failed because the file changed with the ID3 tag change, but I think it should be possible to identify duplicate files if I just run a deduplication using the audio data for comparison. I know that it's possible to seek to a particular position past the ID3 header in the file, and directly read the data, but was wondering if there's a library that would expose the audio data so I could just extract the data, run a checksum on it, and store the computed result somewhere, then look for identical checksums. (Also, I'd probably have to use some kind of library when you take into account variable length headers.)

  Hello All, I have just started trying to make a simple game with XNA 3.1 to help myself learn C# and XNA. I have run into a bit of an interesting problem, however. In all of the tutorials, one is supposed to pass GraphicsDevice when instantiating a new spriteBatch object like this: spriteBatch = new SpriteBatch(GraphicsDevice); One might even do this: GraphicsDevice objGraphics = new graphics.GraphicsDevice; spriteBatch = new SpriteBatch(objGraphics); where graphics is the GraphicsDeviceManager. However, no matter which version I try, I always get an ArgumentNullException when I try to pass the GraphicsDevice object to spriteBatch's constructor. Almost every tutorial I have found gives the first one and only one mentioned the second option. Has anyone else run into a similar error or know what could be causing this? I am working in Windows 7 x64 with Visual Studio 2008.

  I was using phpmyadmin(in Wamp) without a password for root. I thought to set a password for root and goto Privileges page and set a password for root. Now whenever I go to localhost/phpmyadmin page it gives me the following error. MySQL said: Documentation #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server. I don't know that what is the problem. It is not showing me a login type page to enter a username and password. Any idea that what is the problem ? Thanks

  Let's say I have two tables -- Products and Orders. For the sake of simplicity assume that only one product can be purchased at a time so there is no join table like order_items. So the relationship is that Product has many orders, and Order belongs to product. Therefore, product_id is a fk in the Order table. The product table is STI -- with the subclasses being A, B, C. When the user orders subclass Product C, two special validations must be checked on the Order model fields order_details and order_status. These two fields can be nil for all other Product subclasses (ie A and B). In other words, no validation needs to run for these two fields when a user purchases A and B. My question is: How do I write validations (perhaps custom?) in the Order model so that the Order model knows to only run the validations for the two fields -- order_details and order_status -- when Product subclass C is being saved to the orders table?

• Unable to resolve user environment variable correctly

  I am trying to resolve %USERPROFILE% using WScript.Shell. When I create a vbs file and run directly from Windows, I get the correct path for the logged-in user C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator but it gets resolved to C:\Documents and Settings\Default User instead of logged-in user when I used it inside my classic ASP webapp running on the local machine on IIS. The code I used is as below var oShell = new ActiveXObject("Wscript.Shell"); var userPath = oShell.ExpandEnvironmentStrings("%USERPROFILE%"); Is there a permission/setting which I need to check to get correct value of USERPROFILE when retrieving value from the webapp? I have run into this problem when installing ImageMagick a while ago, and when installing Nokogiri, and when installing MySQL. For Nokogiri it was because I needed a more recent version of libxml. What are your thoughts on this? Any fixes? How can I check the version of RMagick the project is loading? I am on a Mac, 10.5.8. Thanks for the help, Lance

• Running Script before/after Variables declared?

  Hi folks. As i understand javascript .js files are best to put all the way at the bottom of html pages, to speed up loading of rest of page. Advised by Yslow(Yahoo) and Page Speed(google). Now, when in the middle of page some thing RUNS a javascript script, in Internet Explorer, i see a small warning message saying that the element is: Uncaught ReferenceError: SWFObject is not defined When i put my all.js file in the had, the error goes away but page load slows doen. What to do? Actually, i remember it was the same with php variables. If i RUN php but the variable comes later, then it just doesnt work. must define the variable first, for it to run. How to make this workflow better, in case of php scripts? and in case of javsscripts? Thanks!
