• BCB: how to get the (approximate) width of a character in a given TFont?

  It's a TMemo, not that that should make any difference. Googling suggests that I can use Canvas->TextWidth() but those are Delphi examples and BCB doesn't seem to offer this property. I really want something analogous to memo->Font->Height for width. I realize that not all fonts are fixed width, so a good estimate will do. All that I need is to take the width of a TMemo in pixels and make a reasonable guess at how many characters of the current font it will hold. Of course, if I really want to be lazy, I can just google for the average height/width ratio, since height is known. Remember, an approximation is good enough for me if it is tricky to get exact. http://www.plainlanguagenetwork.org/type/utbo211.htm says, " A width to height ratio of 3:5 (0.6) is recommended for most applications"

• How can I persist a large Perl object for re-use between runs?

  I've got a large XML file, which takes over 40 seconds to parse with XML::Simple. I'd like to be able to cache the resulting parsed object so that on the next run I can just retrieve the parsed object and not reparse the whole file. I've looked at using Data::Dumper but the documentation is a bit lacking on how to store and retrieve its output from disk files. Other classes I've looked at (e.g. Cache::Cache appear designed for storage of many small objects, not a single large one. Can anyone recommend a module designed for this? EDIT.   I'm new to cookies, and im trying to set a cookie where to store the referer (the org ref).   I want to detect an extended mousedown. The following code works in Firefox and Safari... var mousedownTimeout; $('#testButton').mousedown(function(){ mousedownTimeout = window.setTimeout(function(){ alert("Hey, let go."); }, 2000); }); $('#testButton').mouseup(function(){ window.clearTimeout(mousedownTimeout); }); ... but not on the iPhone because (quoting quirksmore.org)... The iPhone fires the mousedown, mouseup and click events in the correct order on a click (tap), but it either fires all three or none at all. Is there a way around this?

  Hi, I'm new to Java and Groovy and am running into trouble with the following Groovy script. I created this whittled down version of a larger script to facilitate debugging. The script is iterating through a list trying to calc a running total of the values of all objects in the list. Some or all of these objects' values may be null. • Full coordinates across streets with google maps

  If you go here: http://econym.org.uk/gmap/snap.htm there are some examples of the kind of stuff I'm trying to do. I want the user to enter a route on a google maps widget, and then have the map drawl the route along roads. Then the user click on a "submit" button, and their route is sent back to the server where it will be stored in a database. Instead of sending back just the red vertices, I want to send back all the information that makes up the purple lines. Is this possible?

• Special characters incongruence

  Hello I'm building a Spring MVC web application that runs on Tomcat 6.0.20 and JDK 1.6.0_19. When I send some special characters through an HTML form some of them are stored as question marks ? For example these symbols are stored correctly: €, á, é, í, ‰, etc But some symbols are replaced with ? like: £, ?, ? MySQL tables charset is utf-8. My jsp also use utf-8 <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> I have included org.springframework.web.filter.CharacterEncodingFilter in web.xml as suggested here When I debug the POST request when sending 3 characters €a£ with firebug I get: %E2%82%ACa%E2%82%A4 which is correct since E2 82 AC is the code for € and E2 82 A4 is the code for £ but £ is stored as ? in the database. When I save £ directly into the database it is displayed correctly in the webpage. How can I fix this?

• Need a Javascript Expert, IE slow script

  I have a jQuery plugin running on my site that is executing very, very slowly in IE7/8 to the point that it throws a slow script warning to the user. It doesn't happen in any other browser, and I can't figure out what might be going on. If you go to this page: http://dev.xeetic.org/projects You'll see that there are 16 results on each page, and each one has a "flip" behavior attached, using the jQuery plugin "quickflip." Attaching this behavior is very slow in IE. If I reduce the result set to 8 or 4 per page, it's faster, but still very bogged down. I have contacted the author of the script with no success. I am willing to pay for a solution, if I'm allowed to offer such a thing on this site. Very desperate. Please help!

• CSV parser in C++

  All I need is a good CSV file parser for C++. At this point it can really just be a comma-delimited parser (ie don't worry about escaping new lines and commas). The main need is a line-by-line parser that will return a vector for the next line each time the method is called. I found this article which looks quite promising: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/spirit/example/fundamental/list_parser.cpp I've never used Boost's Spirit, but am willing to try it. Is it overkill/bloated or is it fast and efficient? Does anyone have faster algorithms using STL or anything else? Thanks!

• Maven : Is it possible to override the configuration of a plugin already defined for a profile in a parent POM

A solution based on duplicating the parent POM and/or the profile defined inside it is not a good one. Since if the responsible of the parent POM change something, I would have to report it in mine. It's just an inheritance matter (extend or override a profile, a configuration from an upper-level POM) so I think it should be possible with maven2.

This work for '/index' and '/login' paths. But I'm getting 404 response for '/static/login' when invoked from the browser. I'm expecting that '/static/login/' and '/login' should behave the same. What could be wrong here? Would appreciate any help. Thanks!
