• Announcing the RTM of MvcExtensions (aka System.Web.Mvc.Extensibility)

  I am proud to announce the v1.0 of MvcExtensions (previously known as System.Web.Extensibility). There has been quite a few changes and enhancements since the last release. Some of the major changes are: The Namespace has been changed to MvcExtensions from System.Web.Mvc.Extensibility to avoid the unnecessary confusion that it is in the .NET Framework or part of the ASP.NET MVC. The Project is now moved to CodePlex from the GitHub. The primary reason to start the project over GitHub was distributed version control which is no longer valid as CodePlex recently added the Mercurial support. There is nothing wrong with GitHub, it is an excellent place for managing your project. But CodePlex has always been the native place for .NET project. MVC 1.0 support has been dropped. I will be covering each features in my blog, so stay tuned!!!

• Internal microphone not working in Google talk

  My laptop is Lenovo T400, which has an internal microphone. My OS is Ubuntu 10.10. My browser is Firefox 11.0. The internal microphone works fine, because I can use it to record my voice using Audaciy. However, in Google talk, I have choose "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" in "Settings - Voice and video chat - Microphone:". But when I click "Verify your settings", it doesn't work. Neither can I speak to others using Google Talk. I wonder why? Thanks and regards!

• Doing two Declarative Operations with One Button

  You can file the below video under "things that get asked on OTN a lot". With ADF it is very easy to drag an operation to a page to create a button that activate it. But what if you want a single button to invoke two operations? For example have a button that does a "Delete" as well as a "Commit". The way to do it is to add an action binding, and then overwrite the button function in a backing bean to call the additional action. The nice thing is that JDeveloper will create all the binding code for you in the backing bean - all you need to do is duplicate it. Here is a quick demo:

Here is the quick script which I use to find the same. It has to be run in the context of the database for which you want to know pending IO statistics.   I have a gallery type website, e.g. a site that lists blog posts or pictures in a paginated manner. However, I have 2 pages that have identical content: example.com/index.html example.com/page/1 Page 2, 3 and so on have different content naturally. However, for SEO purposes, what is the best way of telling Google that page 1 is identical to index.html? Should I 302 redirect index.html to /page/1 so index.html is non-existent, so to say or should I put a canonical tag in /page/1 (but not on /page/2) that points to index.html?

• Using IP Restrictions with URL Rewrite-Week 25

  URL Rewrite offers tremendous flexibility for customizing rules to your environment. One area of functionality that is often desired for URL Rewrite is to allow a large list of approved or denied IP addresses and subnet ranges. IIS’s original IP Restrictions is helpful for fully blocking an IP address, but it doesn’t offer the flexibility that URL Rewrite does. An example where URL Rewrite is helpful is where you want to allow only authorized IPs to access staging.yoursite.com, but where staging.yoursite.com is part of the same site as www.yoursite.com. This requires conditional logic for the user’s IP. This lesson covers this unique situation while also introducing Rewrite Maps, server variables, and pairing rules to add more flexibility. • OWSM Policy Repository in JDeveloper - Tips & Tricks - 11g

  In this blog post I discussed about the OWSM Policy Repository that is embedded in JDeveloper. However some times people may run into issues with the embedded repository. Here is screen snapshot that shows the error you may run into (click on the image for larger image): If you run into "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: WSM-04694 : An invalid directory was provided to connect to a file-base MDS repository." this caused due to spaces in the folder name. Here is a quick way to workaround this issue by running "Jdeveloper.exe - su". Hope people find this useful!

• SQL SERVER – Running Multiple Batch Files Together in Parallel

  Recently I was preparing a demo for my next technical session, I had to do run a SQL code in parallel. I decided to use Batch File to run the code. I am not the best guy to with command shell so I did it with following setup. Code of tsql.sql SELECT 1 ColumnName Code of command.bat sqlcmd -S . -i tsql.sql timeout 100 Code of  AllBatch.bat start cmd.exe /C “command.bat” start cmd.exe /C “command.bat” start cmd.exe /C “command.bat” Now I ran AllBatch.bat and it run all the three files in parallel and simulated my needed scenario. I believe there should be simpler way using power-shell. Anybody want to come up with equivalent code which is improvement to this code? • Should my URLs be lowercase?

  According to this blog ("Understanding SEO Friendly URL Syntax Practices") I should change http://example.com/Hello-Dolly To http://example.com/hello-dolly The reasons given are: URLs, in general, are case-sensitive it will simplify any case sensitive SEO and analytics reports According to this GIF that I found on Wikipedia's article on URL Normalization I should convert my URLs from any uppercase to all lowercase. However I use ASP.NET MVC4 and by default my URLs are structured like this (CamelCase): http://www.domain.com/Controller/Action/Parameter http://www.greatsite.com/Categories/List/Bicycles I've skimmed through the RFC1738 but I didn't see any definitive answers to this. Should I go out of my way to force the framework to change everything to lower case? Why did Microsoft choose to design their framework like this if everybody is telling me to use lowercase?

With improved access to customer profile information in Siebel, Alaska Airlines presents targeted, relevant offers on their website and via email. At the same time, Alaska Airlines has reduced their speed-to-market with promotions by 150 percent and can now implement new partner marketing programs twice as fast. Finally, as Steve Jarvis, VP of Marketing, Sales and Customer Experience at Alaska Airlines, points out in the video, Alaska Airlines can now reach all 22 million of their annual passengers, not just the 10% who were in the legacy loyalty system.
