  I have BIND working on Windows Server 2003. i want to forward my queries to another server. Recursion is working but forwarding is not working. can u guide me to set it. i've given the following in the options: options { directory "c:\named\zones"; allow-transfer { none; }; forward only; forwarders { 8.8.8.8 ; }; recursion no; }; is the format for forwarding correct in the above. if not what is the format. Am i to give any port number in the forwarders line? Does forwarding have any particular port number? Thank You in advance....

• Cron Permission Denied

  good day, I have a bash script in my home directory that works properly from the command line (file structure is default media temple DV. < noted for certain permission issues) but receive this error from cron: "/home/myFile.sh: line 2: /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql: Permission denied" NOTICE: it's just line 2... it writes to the local server just fine. Below is the Bash File: #!/bin/bash mysqldump -uUSER -pPASSWORD -hHOST dbName> /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql mysql -uadmin -pPASSWORD -hlocalhost dbName< /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql can't chmod from bash (lol, yeah i tried). writing the file there and setting the permissions before the transfer is useless... i have googled the heck out of this situation and this one still seems unique.... any insight is appreciated

• Tab title is wrong with ssh/screen on osx

  I am doing ssh -t host screen -D -RR in OS X (10.9) terminal tabs. My ~/.screenrc is identical on all remote hosts and contain the following line: hardstatus string "%H(%n:%t)$USER %h" My ~/.bashrc is also identical on all hosts. When I login to host host_u (Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS) running Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06, the tab title on the OS X terminal is host_u(1:bash)sds ~, as expected. When I login to host host_c (CentOS release 6.3 (Final)) running Screen version 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06, the tab title on the OS X terminal is ~/FooBar (which is the local OS X directory from which I ran the ssh/screen command. Problem: the hardstatus line does not work on host_c.

• upgraded to OSX 10.6.6 - now cannot sudo

  I've been using sudo until now. After an upgrade to 10.6.6, now sudo gives me incorrect password. My user has admin rights, and i can execute admin functions from the GUI (such as System Prefs, updating software etc). However, within Terminal, sudo has stopped accepting the password. I have repaired permissions and restarted. Some pointers ask me to use Directory Utility, but in this version it does not have a "set root user" option. I downloaded ServerAdminTool 10.5.7 but this does not work on my system. Some say to add myself to "wheel" group, but i need sudo for that. Some say if i am in admin group, i should be able to sudo, but this is not happening. (Using OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6, earlier 10.5.8) MODERATOR: please delete this question. The issue had to do with Textpander expanding the password resulting in sudo failing. Not an OS upgrade issue.

I see the same thing on another unrelated server (more or less stock CentOS 6), so I suspect the problem is between keyboard and chair...

  I need to install 10 PC which has identical setup and hardware. So i was trying remastersys but its failing. How can i resolve this or use something else to achieve this? • Open source command line tools for indexing a large number of text files

  I'm looking for any open source command line tool or tools which will allow me to index and search a large number of plain text files. Approximate search would be a plus. The tool only needs to print the files that match, although some match context would be useful. A GUI tool isn't useful for my application, nor is anything that searches files one by one (grep for example). I'm basically targeting unix platforms (osx, linux, bsd). EDIT: I'm not interested in any sort of tool that is system-wide, or needs to run in the background. Basically, I want to build an index for a directory tree full of text files and then later be able to search against it. Preferably the index is one or a few files that I can specify the location of. Any ideas?

• How can we achive a 403 Permissions Denied for a subdomain?

  We have a multisite installed in the root directory (multisite.com) and also a wordpress single installation on a subdomain (help.multisite.com) In the root .htaccess we placed: #START Security: Disallow access to folders Options All -Indexes # END Security On the main site (as expected we get) "403 Permission Denied. You do not have permission for this request /wp-content/blogs.dir/83/" Nice. :) BUT. We just noticed that when trying to access the subdomains folders we get: Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.... Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error... This is something we do NOT want. So the question is: How can we avoid the above result and make the message for the subdomains be "403 Permission Denied" (the same as for the main site and NOT "500 Internal Server Error" (as it is now)? We put what, where?

• Openssh sftp-server: .filepart support?

  I am trying to setup a SFTP server, running off Ubuntu Server 11.04. I installed openssh-server to provide SSH access. What I am trying to do is make file uploads run with a suffix (.filepart or whatever), which would be removed upon transfer completion. The flow idea is: User uploads cat.jpg The server starts writing cat.jpg.filepart in the destination directory Once the upload completes, the server trashes the previous cat.jpg (if any) and renames cat.jpg.filepart to cat.jpg This is to make sure that incomplete file uploads do not overwrite the existing files. Any idea on how I can do this? Thanks

• How to create custom Live CD with upgraded linux-image kernel?

  I'm following this tutorial to customize a Live CD, http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-customize-your-ubuntu-live-cd However, it's failed to upgrade linux-image, I guess it's just can't update-grub. Any idea? EDIT I copied the custom/ directory into an ext4 image, now the linux-image-2.6.35-24 package is successfully upgrade. But as shown in the original CDROM, the vmlinuz-* and initrd.img-* file is moved out to /casper/vmlinuz and casper/initrd.lz. Well, I can move vmlinuz-2.6.34-24-generic to /casper/vmlinuz, but how to compress file initrd.img-2.6.35-24-generic in .lz format? (It looks like lzip, but it's not: ) # cd original-maverick/casper # lzip -d initrd.lz initrd.lz: bad magic number (file not in lzip format).

  0 vote down star I have a removable disk drive (RD1000 from Dell), and I am looking for backup software that will allow me to backup every night, and every morning switch to the alternate disk. There is only one directory structure to back up, what I want is two copies, one which I will take home with me every night, one which will be backing up every night, and when I get in in the morning, I will switch them. So for instance I have disk "a" and disk "b". On Monday night I want to go home with disk "a" and leave disk "b" in the drive, so that a scheduled back up will be written to it. On Tuesday morning I will come in and swap disks, and I will take "b" home that night, leaving "a" for the backup. And so on for the remainder of the week. FOSS software preferred, Freeware acceptable, paid software as a last-ditch effort. Oh, btw I'm stuck with Windows 2000 Thanks in advance.

• Can't configure PAM + LDAP on Debian Lenny - Getting error=49 on server logs

  I've been migrating some servers and desktops using Ubuntu 10.04 from getting the users from an old OpenLDAP implementation to a newer Centos Active Directory. I haven't had any problems so far, until I reached a Debian Lenny server. I've set up the server as the others, setting /etc/ldap.conf and /etc/ldap/ldap.conf. However, when I issue "getent passwd", I get nothing from the LDAP server. Reading the pam_ldap manpage, I realized that /etc/ldap.conf was not an accepted file by pam_ldap -it worked with Ubuntu though-, so I renamed it to /etc/pam_ldap.conf. Same result.   Is there a way to change the desktop wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition? I wanted to do that on my new netbook, just to find out that there is no "Customize" option in the control panel. Microsoft obviously wants to keep the netbook users rather rigidly from customizing their machines. It isn't even possible to edit the picture itself in the C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\ directory, due to lack of rights. From what I can tell only the user "Trusted Installer" would have enough rights to do so... • shutil.copy script not working

  I wrote a script in python that was supposed to copy a bunch of files to system32 and then install them through cmd. I can do it manually but I'm trying to make it automatic. This is what I wrote: Import shutil Import os L = ['file1.type', 'file2.type'.... ] dst = "C:\Windows\system32" For f in L: shutil.copy(f, dst) os.system("cmd command yada yada...") And it doesn't work. I tried doing it step by step with idle and it worked fine. All the files are in the same directory as the script. What am I missing here?

• Why is my FTP output file blank?

  From the Windows command prompt, I have FTPd to a Windows web server. I can get a file, and I can see a directory listing with dir, but I want to save that list locally. I tried dir > c:\somefile.txt, and the file is created, but it's blank. Same thing if I do ls > c:\somefile.txt. The result is the same when I FTP from a Linux box.   What formatting character needs to be added to a bash prompt to indicate the most recent history item run (or the current command number if 1 could be added to the last history entry)? My prompt string is this: \[\033[33m\][\u@\[\033[1;31m\]\h]\]\033[0m {\W}\n\033[1;34m\]\w\]\033[0m > Gives me the following display: [user@host] {~} ~ > User is in yellow, and the host is in red. The entry in brackets is the current directory, and the entry before the greater-than sign is the full pwd. Can I append to the first line the current command number so I would have something like the following: [user@host] {~} (nnn) ~ > where (nnn) is the current (or just processed) command number, as shown when running history?

  Hello, I try to compile code, that beggins with: #include<stdlib.h> #include<GL/gl.h> #include<glaux.h> with command: cc -o test test.c -I/usr/local/include -L/usr/local/lib -lMesaaux -lMesatk -lMesaGL -lXext -lX11 -lm But one of errors I got is: test.c:3:18: error: glaux.h: No such file or directory Then I try: yum provides glaux.h but yum find anything. • What are "Missing thread recordng" erros when running fsck -fy?

  There is some error reported when I run Disk Utility and verify the root volume on my OS X MacBook. So I boot and CMD-S into the shell mode and run /sbin/fsck -fy. Errors are like: ** Checking catalog file. Missing thread record (id = ...) In correct number of thread records ** Checking catalog hierarchy. Invalid volume file count (It should be ... instead of ...) ** Repairing Volume Missing directory record (id = ...) I'd like to know what is the cause of the above errors? Hopefully I will be more careful in the future to prevent them from happening again. p.s. I am using a SSD and so I assume mechanical hard disk error is less likely. Thanks!

• Why did cherokee-admin-launcher crash?

  I'm trying out the Cherokee http server on a seemingly fine machine. Following simple set-up instructions, I tried running cherokee-admin-launcher but it printed error messages and hung up. Ctrl-C did not kill it; I had to kill -9 it from another xterm. OTOH, cherokee-admin ran fine (or at least got a lot further). • The KMPlayer ... playing with colors

  I'm not a video editing type, so go easy on me ... practically don't know anything on the subject except that for some videos I view, "color modifying" works (buttons n, j, r for reset ...) and for some it doesn't. What influences that and how can I incluence contrast, saturation and so on on every video I play? (mostly some recordings of experiments in poor light conditions, so those controls really come in handy when viewing some details before taking out snapshots for reports) Also, KMPlayer has an enormous number of options. Is there one somewhere that can take a snapshot in a predefined directory of the what-I-see-on-screen every xy number of seconds?
