  We have a really old Video learning program that we need to run from the network for our students. However it uses Director Player 6.0 and the students get the error: "Unable to copy the driver file C:\Windows\xobglu16.dll to your Windows directory. Your disk may be full" Now the solution I've read is to copy the files manually to each machine and mark them read-only. I'm trying to do this via GPP, but the Event log is showing an Access is denied error. I believe it is because the student accounts do not have permission to c:\windows. Any ideas on a work around without using a script?

• Ubuntu 10.04 not detecting multiple monitors

  I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks. • Converting Outlook Express csv adress book and dbx files into Thunderbird on W7

  Recently I changed my OS from XP to W7. I made backup of any Outlook Express messages (the dbx files and adress book as CSV). On W7 I want to import that data into Thunderbird. There is option for importing from Outlook Express, but it is looking for live application data (I can't specify directory with real files myself) and there is no Outlook Express installed on W7 so I can't just import it back to it and then into Thunderbird. How can I import that data into Thunderbird?

  Hi, Running Ubuntu 10.04 in one office and we want a couple of Mac's in another office to be able to connect to shares on this computer. Want a fairly simple solution to this if one exists. Started looking at setting up a VPN using PPTP but it seems quite complicated. Also seen mention of VNC but this seems more related to sharing desktops and all i want to do is share a directory. Could i just install open SSH and have the Mac users mount a share over SSH using public/private key encryption?

  hi, I have a centos server. I have installed apache 2.2.17 from a .tar.gz file. I've also install php 5.3 from the ius repository. That worked fine and apache is functioning and so is php 5.3. However, when i put a phpinfo.php file in the directory that apache should be serving files from, it doesn't work. I can only seem to get php to work if i use yum install httpd which installs an older vesion of apache. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Snippets in Vim not working

  I've been trying to get snippets to work with Vim (specifically, MacVim). I have tried both snippetsEmu and snipMate (preferred). Other plugins are working fine. I have been able to get snippetsEmu to temporarily work via A Byte of Vim's note to run :runtime! ftplugin/python_snippets.vim if they aren't working, except the author doesn't mention why they may not be working or what kind of permanent solutions are available. So, basically when I type for<tab> in a PHP file it just puts a tab after 'for' instead of expanding into the snippet. I'm new to Vim and can't seem to figure this out. The only main difference that these two plugins (snippetsEmu and snipMate) have compared to other plugins is that they use the ~/.vim/after directory. But knowing that hasn't helped me any.   My web development experience has started with Fedora and RHEL but I'm transitioning to Ubuntu. In Fedora/RHEL, the default seems to be using the /var folder while Ubuntu uses /srv. Is there any reason to use one over the other and where does the line split? (It confused me so much that until very recently, I thought /srv was /svr for server/service) My main concern deals with two types of folders default www and ftp directories specific application folders like: samba shares (possibly grouped under a smb folder) web applications (should these go in www folder, or do can I do a symlink to its own directory like "_/www/wordpress" - "/srv/wordpress") I'm looking for best practice, industry standards, and qualitative reasons for which approach is best (or at least why its favored).

  Possible Duplicate: How is software deployed via Active Directory? I have trying to deploy a programs, mapped network drives and taks schedule job. I didn't manage to start a script on log on PC until I did it in Default Domain Policy. But when I did that I have installed programs on my server too. And mapped network drives, etc. So I don't know how to manage to do all of that but not to install anything on server over GPO. I still didn't manage to deploy a schedule task job on clients. I manage to put it on server bit not on clients. I need that schedule task because I need to update software on clients every week. I can't manual update flash player, adobe reader, firefox, etc on clients. And People useing client PC even doesn't know how to do it if they have abillity. Clients doesn't have admin rights.

  Hi, I'm brand new to Apache so this might be a stupid question. I've been trying to follow a few basic tutorials explaining how to get Apache up and running (on ubuntu, running on Amazon). I've mostly come up blank, because all the tutorials told me to configure httpd.conf (to add DocumentRoot, etc.). I've now stumbled across one tutorial that told me to add site configurations to the sites-available directory (under /etc/apache), and then symlink to it from sites-enabled. Configuring this way seems to work. But now I'm confused - how am I supposed to configure Apache? Most tutorials still seem to say that I should be using httpd.conf. Which one should I be using? What's the difference? Why are all the tutorials "wrong" (if they are)? Thanks!

• Why can't PHP script write a file on server 2008 via command line or task scheduler?

  I have a PHP script. It runs well when I use a browser. It writes an XML file in the same directory. The script takes ~60 seconds to run, and the resulting XML file is ~16 MB. I am running PHP 5.2.13 via FastCGI on Server 2008 64 bit. I created a task in task scheduler to run c:\php5\php.exe "D:\inetpub\tools\something.php" No error returned, but no file created. If I run this same path and argument at a command line it does not error and does not create the file. I am doing a simple fopen fwrite fclose to save the contents of a php variable to a .xml file, and the file only gets created when the script is run through the browser. Thanks

  I am currently using IE7 with XP SP3. When a webpage download with unknown file type loads, I get a prompt asking me what I want to do with the file. My options are FIND SAVE CANCEL. How do I make it so that I don't get this popup prompt, but Internet explorer automatically downloads the file into a directory I choose without asking? PS. I have already tried Tools Internet Options Security Internet Custom Level Downloads Disable/Enable/Enable, but this doesn't help. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have to use IE. ReiserFS does a file system sync every 5 seconds, but that's interval between not length of time taken to sync. Out of curiosity I did remount using noatime to see if that would help though as it would reduce sync's workload, but no joy. Anyone got any thoughts what might be causing this pause? Disks appear healthy, RAID controller believes the RAID is healthy, and io stats show the disks aren't working very hard at all.

• Remove apache from ubuntu

  I want to remove apache as if it was never installed, no config files left behind. I intend to reinstall apache2 fresh. I have tried various combinations of apt-get options to no success. apt-get remove apache2 apt-get remove --purge apache2 apt-get purge apache2 apt-get autoremove apache2 None of these totally remove apache properly. Nothing works, the /etc/apache2 directory still exists. So I deleted it. When I install apache the folder is never created. Running Ubuntu server 10.10.

• Copy Thunderbird accounts and preferences from Linux to Mac/Windows

  This is similar to this question but not exactly a duplicate. My Linux laptop has recently been hanging for no apparent reason, and so I have been using a Mac OS X laptop in the meantime. I just installed Thunderbird and wanted to copy all my preferences and account settings to the new laptop. All email accounts are IMAP based. Can I simply copy the data, or does Thunderbird for OS X store data in a different format from OS X? What about if I wanted to copy the preferences to Thunderbird under Windows? Finally, what files do I copy? I haven't powered up the Linux laptop yet but I'm guessing there's a ~/.thunderbird/ directory, can I just copy this to the Mac?

• Ecommerce Database DNS Switch

  Hello, I am moving an e-commerce site to a new server. All has been successful and its time to change the DNS for the domain. It's a relatively popular site and I fear that during propagation orders will be split between the old database and the new one. The databases do contain content that is dependent of the server it is on (Cache path, upload directory, etc.) so I can't just point the old site to the new database. Are there any solutions to this without any of the sites going down. Thanks in advance

• No option to select ASP.Net Version in IIS 6?

  I'm running Windows Server 2003 64bit edition. I've just installed the .Net 4 Framework in order to get a new WCF service up and running. However, I have no options anywhere in IIS 6 for selecting the ASP.Net framework version. I.e. Right click Properties on the website should have as ASP.Net tab from where I should be able to select v2 or v4. Does anyone know why they're not there and how I can make them appear? For the time being I've had to go into Website Properties Home Directory Configuration and change the .svc extension to use v4.0.30319 instead. So, everything's now working for my WCF service, however every other extension is set to v2. How can I get the tab? It's not visible on any of my 23 websites.

• connection refused with nfs server.

  Hi All, I have an issue with NFS. I have two rhel4 servers. sys1 and sys2. I have a directory exported from sys1 and sys2 is the nfs client trying to access the mount. I'm able to mount, but after a certain amount of time I get "RPC: Remote system error: Connection refused." and then I restart nfs services, quotas, deamon, mountd and lockd. Then it works fine again. Any way to fix this. Thanks.

• Linux cron spamming me then stops about php/suhosin

  My server emails me when any messages goes to root. cron sends me messages. Today I got over 300 emails from my server all of which are PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/suhosin.so' - /usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/suhosin.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 I have no idea why. I went to debug it however 5hours ago it stopped so theres nothing i could look at except maybe logs. Why did this maybe happen? Disk isn't full and I have enough ram available.

  Possible Duplicate: How to make domain point to another web directory? My boss just bought the domain: sergiotapia.me for me, and agree'd the host my Wordpress blog on company servers. We're using Apache (latest version). The domain is purchased on NameCheap.com and the DNS settings are as follows: And when I visit my URL, it's getting redirected to my VPS server without problems. The thing is, I want my blog to appears at once, not have a user select the folder and then see the blog. My Wordpress blog is located at: /var/www/sergiotapia.me On IIS, you would need to edit the Bindings and map a domain to an application. I'm guessing I have to do something similar on Apache. What am I looking for here? Any tips on getting this working correctly?
