  • Why is my portable WD MY PASSPORT drive is not recognized?

    My "MY PASSPORT" (Western Digital) portable drive is not recognized OSx. It used to be recognized, but not anymore. It does not appear in /Volumes. The hard drive is recognized by a Linux machine. I am not sure what happened -- any ideas how to fix that? Thanks.   • Windows 7 -Can't get access to shared folder from one computer to another.

    I have 2 windows 7 computers and i'm trying to share a folder (that I want password protection on) outside of the homegroup. Both computers are part of the same workgroup and I have the same user account/password combination on both computers plus I have password protected sharing turned on in the network and sharing centre along with file and printer sharing turned on. On computer 1 I have right clicked and selected that I want the folder shared. When I navigate via the network on computer 2 to computer 1 the shared folder shows up on computer 2 but double clicking on it to open it gives me an alert saying I don't have permission to access it, no option to type in the user name and password (according to the help files I shouldn't even need to type the password in if both computers have the same username/password anyway but would need it if I'm logged in as a different user). It's just a blanket denial of access.

  • Can a mapped network drive be reconnected from the command line?

    On a daily basis I find myself in the Windows command prompt needing to access a network drive that is mapped but disconnected. I have yet to find a command that will reconnect this drive without unmapping and remapping (which leads to a password guessing game, since I don't own these computers). I would also like to be able to script this so every night the drive is reconnected if it has become disconnected somehow. The fastest solution I currently have is to: Type "start." to open explorer, Alt-D to focus the address bar, type the drive letter I want and press enter, and wait for it to display the drive contents, then finally, close explorer and go back to the command prompt. I know it's a minor inconvenience, but I'm often doing this through a slow VNC or PCAnywhere connection where doing anything through GUI is awful, so I'm just wondering if there's a better solution.

    I am running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 and I have X11 installed. I also have ubuntu 10.04 LTS running on a remote machine. I have root privileges. So far I haven't really installed anything besides the operating system. This was done in an amazon aws type of way. I see people talking about getting gnome or a "remote desktop" type of thing working, but I'm not sure how to go about this. I connected and then typed in gnome-session but nothing happened. Maybe I don't have that thing installed yet? Can someone point me in the right direction? Also, is it possible to just start an X11 session with a single app, like notepad or a file and folder browser?

    I have internet access on my PC through proxy through SSH, so every time I need to execute ssh -L PORT:SERVER:PORT LOGIN@SERVER and then type a password. After each network failure or reconnect this command has to be executed again. I've got bored of it and look for a way to do this automatically: first run this after boot (it doesn't seem to be a problem - put this command in some init file and that's all) and then rerun it (if possible, then type password) on each network failure. Is it possible, and how? OS Linux (Debian)

    I have a set up a bucket called "www.mydomainname.com" to host my website and I have configured the CNAME such that "www.mydomainname.com" points to the my endopint http://www.mydomainname.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/ It works and when people who type the the full url "www.mydomainname.com" are able to see my index page But most people are in the habit of typing incoplete domain name -- they just type "mydomainname.com" and their browser fails to find my site. Is there a way to configure CName or S3 bucket such that typing "mydomainname.com" take them to my s3 website ? (I am using Networksolutions as my DNS provider).

    Open Word and insert a table (1 x 1 will work just fine). Right-click in the table and, in the context menu, select "Bullets" and a bullet image from the bullet library. Type something and press enter. Type something else, but, instead of clicking enter, right-click and select "Increase Indent" Notice something else moves into the proper indentation of a nested bullet: Outside of a Word table, you would simply press tab to get this behavior, but I want a keyboard shortcut (if available) to do this inside the table. This is what I've tried: Ctrl + Tab: Just indents the text, not the bullet Ctrl + T: Same as Ctrl + Tab Ctrl + M: Indents the text and the bullet but does not change the bullet style Can this be done outside the right-click context menu?

On one system when I type: service <TAB> it shows me all available service (from /etc/init.d) on the other system it shows me all files from the current directory. Does anyone know which setting changes that behaviour ? UPDATE: The file /etc/bash_completion.d/service was missing. I copied it from the machine where it is working. If I type complete -p | grep service it shows me: complete -F _service service On the machine where it is not working that command shows me nothing.     How would one go about customising the on screen keyboard on a Microsoft Surface Pro? I've noticed that it doesn't have an alt or Esc key and I can't think of any good reason why those keys, among others, should not be there. In particular I want to use keys such as [ and ]. Also there are no up and down arrow keys. I already have a type cover but sometimes I'd like to use those keys without having the type cover attached. Ideally I'd like a way to enable those missing keys and perhaps to remove the ones that I don't want, such as the emoticon key.

  • How to get select's value in jqGrid when using <select> editoptions on a column

    I have a couple of columns in jqGrid with edittype="select". How can I read the option value of the value currently selected in a particular row? e.g.: When I provide the following option, how do I get "FE" for FedEx, etc. editoption: { value: “FE:FedEx; IN:InTime; TN:TNT” } getRowData() for the rowId/cellname returns only the text/displayed component of the select. If I set a "change" data event on the column, the underlying fires change events only on mouse clicks, and not keyboard selects (there's numerous references to generic selects and mouse/keyboard issues). Bottomline, when a new value is selected, I need to know the option value at the time of the change, and also prior to posting to the server.

  • MetadataException: Unable to load the specified metadata resource

    All of a sudden I keep getting a MetadataException on instantiating my generated ObjectContext class. The connectionstring in App.Config looks correct - hasn't changed since last it worked - and I've tried regenerating a new model (edmx-file) from the underlying database with no change. Anyone have any... ideas? Edit: I haven't changed any properties, I haven't changed the name of any output assemblies, I haven't tried to embed the EDMX in the assembly. I've merely waited 10 hours from leaving work until I got back. And then it wasn't working anymore. I've tried recreating the EDMX. I've tried recreating the project. I've even tried recreating the database, from scratch. No luck, whatsoever. I'm truly stumped.

  • How to trace WCF serialization issues / exceptions

    Hi I occasionally run into the problem that an application exception is thrown during the WCF-serialization (after returning a DataContract from my OperationContract). The only (and less meaningfull) message I get is System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException : The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly. without any insight to the inner exception, which makes it really hard to find out what caused the error during serialization. Does someone know a good way how you can trace, log and debug these exceptions? Or even better can I catch the exception, handle them and send a defined FaulMessage to the client? thank you

    I have to develop a customized tab control and decided to create it with WPF/XAML, because I planned to learn it anyway. It should look like this when it's finished: I made good progress so far, but there are two issues left: Only the first/last tab item should have a rounded upper-left/bottom-left corner. Is it possible to modify the style of these items, similar to the way I did with the selected tab item? The selected tab item should not have a border on its right side. I tried to accomplish this with z-index and overlapping, but the results were rather disappointing. Is there any other way to do this?     is there a way to send multiple startKey/endKey pairs to a view, akin to the keys: [] array that can be posted for keys? the underlying problem - let's say my documents have "categories" and timestamps. if i want all documents in the "foo" category that have a timestamp that's within the last two hours, it's simple: function (doc) { emit([doc.category, doc.timestamp], null); } and then query as GET server:5894/.../myview?startKey=[foo, |now - 2 hours|]&endkey=[foo, |now|] the problem comes when i want something in categories foo or bar, within the last two hours. if i didn't care about time, i could just pull directly by key through the keys collection. unfortunately, i have no such option with ranges. what i ended up doing in the meantime is rounding the timestamp to two-hour blocks, and then multiplexing the query out: POST server:5894/.../myview keys=[[foo, 0 hours], [foo, 2 hours], [bar, 0 hours], [bar, 2 hours]] it works, but will get messy if i want to go back a large amount of time (in relationship to the blocksize)

In my web.config servicebehaviour tag consist <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> Any idea where I'm going wrong

  • facebook iframe stream.Publish cannot close dialog or skip

    am pulling my hair over this :( spent 10 hrs but nothing came out I read this thread http://forum.developers.facebook.com/viewtopic.php?pid=198128 but it didn't help much. I'm running a local dev App Engine server ( localhost:8080 ) iframe app so I have a couple of problems. 1) on safari 4.0.4, the publish story dialog comes up nicely with all images/data/action_links. upon posting a story (or skipping), the dialog goes blank and wouldn't close. 2) I tested the same code on firefox 3.5.8, the dialog comes up with all images/data/action_links, but then the whole thing freezes. Clicking anywhere on the dialog doesn't help at all. If i'm patient enough and click "publish", I have to wait for abt 10 seconds before the dialog says "story is published". then it freezes. (clicking on skip doesn't make a difference). btw, there is no "button clicking effect" : ie: the buttons don't look like they "sink down" upon clicking. I checked the firefox memory using the command "top" on the terminal, it all seems okay, no spike in CPU processes ( i could open other firefox tabs and work on them) My futile attempts at solving the problems... 1) so i thought, hmm could this be because of local dev (localhost) problem? I uploaded the code to the production server, the same thing happens. 2) I tried an older firefox (3.1) and the same problem persisted ( the freezing ) 3) I noticed that i kind of used 2 different FB features ( Connect and XFBML). The Connect Feature I used in the PostStory function. The XFBML feature I used before the tag. So I thought, hmm ... I tried replacing the FB_RequireFeatures["Connect"] feature with FB_RequireFeatures["XFBML"]. nothing changed.   • Need help with setting up comet code

    Does anyone know off a way or maybe think its possible to connect Node.js with Nginx http push module to maintain a persistent connection between client and browser. I am new to comet so just don't understand the publishing etc maybe someone can help me with this. What i have set up so far is the following. I downloaded the jQuery.comet plugin and set up the following basic code: Client JavaScript <script type="text/javascript"> function updateFeed(data) { $('#time').text(data); } function catchAll(data, type) { console.log(data); console.log(type); } $.comet.connect('/broadcast/sub?channel=getIt'); $.comet.bind(updateFeed, 'feed'); $.comet.bind(catchAll); $('#kill-button').click(function() { $.comet.unbind(updateFeed, 'feed'); }); </script> What I can understand from this is that the client will keep on listening to the url followed by /broadcast/sub=getIt. When there is a message it will fire updateFeed. Pretty basic and understandable IMO. Pretty basic also. This part is not so hard to understand, and is well documented over the internet. Most of the time there is a ruby or a php file behind this that does the broadcasting. My idea is to have node.js broadcasting /broadcast/pub. I think this will let me have persistent streaming data from the server to the client without breaking the connection. I tried the long-polling approach with looping the request but I think this will be more efficient. Or is this not going to work. Node.js file Now to create the Node.js i'm lost. First off all I don't know how to have node.js to work in this way. The setup I used for long polling is as follows: var sys = require('sys'), http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (req, res) { res.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); res.write(new Date()); res.close(); seTimeout('',1000); }).listen(8000); This listens to port 8000 and just writes on the response variable. For long polling my nginx.config looked something like this: server { listen 80; server_name _; location / { proxy_pass http://mydomain.com:8080$request_uri; include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf; } } This just redirected the port 80 to 8000 and this worked fine. Does anyone have an idea on how to have Node.js act in a way Comet understands it. Would be really nice and you will help me out a lot.     when we bind to heterogeneous collection of objects, not all objects have the same set of properties. in the output window we get a message like: System.Windows.Data Error: 39 : BindingExpression path error: 'RoundingFactor' property not found on 'object' ''MultiLineTextMarkingScheme' (HashCode=7262386)'. BindingExpression:Path=RoundingFactor;.......... This doesn't appear to be an exception, but we are concerned it has a performance impact. Should we be concerned and create a view model that has all the properties we wish to bind to (and have the properties that dont exist on the underlying element return null) or can we just leave it. This situation often occurs in a grid scenario where there might be large numbers of these binding failures.
