  • Local variables in java

    - by Mandar
Hello , I went through local variables and class variables concept. But I had stuck at a doubt " Why is it so that we cannot declare local variables as static " ? For e.g Suppose we have a play( ) function : void play( ) { static int i=5; System.out.println(i); } It gives me error in eclipse : Illegal modifier for parameter i; I had this doubt because of the following concepts I have read : Variables inside method : scope is local i.e within that method. When variable is declared as static , it is present for the entire class i.e not to particular object. Please could anyone help me out to clarify the concept. Thanks.

  • Java: how to name boolean properties

    - by NoozNooz42
I just had a little surprise in a Webapp, where I'm using EL in .jsp pages. I added a boolean property and scratched my head because I had named a boolean "isDynamic", so I could write this: <c:if test="${page.isDynamic}"> ... </c:if> Which I find easier to read than: <c:if test="${page.dynamic}"> ... </c:if> However the .jsp failed to compile, with the error: javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException: Property 'isDynamic' not found on type com... I turns out my IDE (and it took me some time to notice it), when generating the getter, had generated a method called: isDynamic() instead of: getIsDynamic() Once I manually replaced isDynamic() by getIsDynamic() everything was working fine. So I've got really two questions here: is it bad to start a boolean property's name with "is"? wether it is bad or not, didn't IntelliJ made a mistake here by auto-generating a method named isDynamic instead of getIsDynamic?

  • can't see the result after i update a row in a table in a gridview

    - by aleo
Peace! i created a gridview and ive bended the data using a ObjectDataSource, for some reasons i created the CRUD methods to do the work instead of using the CRUD method generated by the LINQDataSource; everything is just working fine but the update method, when i update a row in my gridview everything become as if there isnt any update! but when i check the database i can see that the rows is been updated! i can't find a solution (yet) to this issue. i'am using the updatepanel to have the autopostback without refreshing the page. thank you

  • iPhone CALayer Stacking Order

    - by Brian
I'm using CALayers to draw to a UITableViewCell. I'm trying to figure out how layers are ordered with the content of the UITableViewCell. For instance: I add labels to the UITableViewCell in my cellForRow:atIndexPath method In the drawRect method of UITableViewCell I draw some content using the current context Also, in drawRect I add a few sublayers So what would be the order of these elements. I know I have zPosition on the CALayers but I'm not sure if they are always on top of any subviews of the UITableViewCell. And I'm not sure where the content that is drawn in drawRect comes in the order. Any help or links to documentation would be great. I have read through the Core Animation Programming Guide and didn't see anywhere where this would be answered.

  • Is Cancan's accessible_by my best choice for altering admin scope on the fly?

    - by evanchurchill
Situation: On my site, I have a comment model, with a deleted field. Users cannot see deleted comments, but I would like to allow admins to see deleted comments, if they choose to. This will be accomplished by having a scope for users with the admin role which allows them to view comments with the deleted field set to false, as well as true. Question: Is Cancan's accessible_by method my best choice for doing so? From what I've read, it sounds like it will facilitate exactly what I'm trying to do, but, I don't want to implement something that is inefficient, if there is a better method.

  • Updating Android Home Screen TextView

    - by jmontex2
    Hi, How can we update the View of a Home Screen Widget on the onReceive method of AppWidgetProvider?. I am trying to update the TextView of my Home screen widget but it seems that I cant access the TextView of my AppWidgetProvider on onReceive method. Here is a sample code of my onReceive public void onReceive(Context context,Intent intent) { final String action = intent.getAction(); if (AppWidgetManager.ACTION_APPWIDGET_DELETED.equals(action)) { final int appWidgetId = intent.getExtras().getInt( AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); if (appWidgetId != AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) { this.onDeleted(context, new int[] { appWidgetId }); } } else { if (intent.getAction().equals(ACTION_WIDGET_RECEIVER)) { String msg = "null"; try { msg = intent.getStringExtra("msg"); } catch (NullPointerException e) { } Toast.makeText(context, msg, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); // code for gathering the text to update the TextView } } super.onReceive(context, intent); }

  • Enabling depth testing when using CAOpenGLLayer

    - by Andrew
If one is using a subclass of NSOpenGLView then one enables depth testing by selecting a 16/24/32 bit buffer from the attributes menu in Xcode, and then adding glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST); glClear(GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); to the drawRect method. However, in the application I'm creating I'm rendering OpenGL content via the drawInCGLContext method of a CAOpenGLLayer which is contained within a subclass of NSView. This means that it is no longer possible to create a depth buffer via the inspector. Does anyone know how I can achieve this in such a situation?

  • How to update widgets from a service?

    - by Franklin
I have a background service that can be configured to perform some action every x minutes. I want to implement a widget that gets updated every time my service performs that action. However, I can't get the onUpdate method of my AppWidgetProvider called in any way, except when adding a widget to the homescreen. I tried sending APPWIDGET_UPDATE intents but onUpdate did not get called although the AppWidgetProvider did receive the intent since the onReceive method was called. Is there any way I can trigger widget updates from a service?

  • Quickly retrieve the subset of properties used in a huge collection in C#

    - by ccornet
I have a huge Collection (which I can cast as an enumerable using OfType<()) of objects. Each of these objects has a Category property, which is drawn from a list somewhere else in the application. This Collection can reach sizes of hundreds of items, but it is possible that only, say, 6/30 of the possible Categories are actually used. What is the fastest method to find these 6 Categories? The size of the huge Collection discourages me from just iterating across the entire thing and returning all unique values, so is there a faster method of accomplishing this? Ideally I'd collect the categories into a List.

  • Using GPS data in Application

    - by Moka
Hi, I want using GPS data (I got it from $GPRMC) in an desktop application(that uses from mappoint 2009). I get the latitude & longitude, but when I check these points on map, I see the result is incorrect (for example My Data is: 43.412 N, 79.369 W ; but the correct point is: 43.686 N, 79.616 W ). I guess, I must use a correction method before use; I try "Projection method" like "Miller" or "Mercator", but those aren't effective. Can anyone guide me?

  • mockito ArrayList<String> problem...

    - by Sardathrion
I have a method that I am trying to unit test. This method takes a parameter as an ArrayList and does things with it. The mock I am trying to define is: ArrayList<String> mocked = mock(ArrayList.class); which gives a [unchecked] unchecked conversion" warning. ArrayList<String> mocked = mock(ArrayList<String>.class); gives me an error. Anyone care to enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong?

  • jQuery plugin question - populate select options with JSON data

I'm getting error 'Object doesn't support this property or method.' when I do this $(this).html(options.join'')); Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? ;(function($) { $.fillSelect = {}; $.fn.fillSelect = function(url, map) { var jsonpUrl = url + "?callback=?"; $.getJSON(jsonpUrl, function(d) { var options = []; var txt = map[0]; var val = map[1]; options.push('<option>--Select--</option>'); $.each(d, function(index, item) { options.push('<option value="' + item[val] + '">' + item[txt] + '</option>'); }); $(this).html(options.join('')); //getting error Object doesn't support this property or method } }; })(jQuery);

  • ActiveX communication

    - by Mario Marinato -br-
I'm developing an ActiveX EXE that exposes an specific class to a third-party software. This third-party software instanciates an object of this class and uses its methods. Strangely, this third-party software destroys its object of my exposed class as soon as it calls an specific method, but I have no idea why this happens. The only clue I have is that this method is the only one that returns a value. All the other ones are simple 'subs' that do not return any value, and when they are called nothing wrong happens. I'm using VB6. Do you guys have any idea of why it's happening?

  • How do you keep track of your programming TODOs?

    - by Simucal
I'm one of those people who can't get anything done without a to-do list. If it isn't on the list it doesn't exist. Notepad Method: When I'm programming I've been keeping notepad open with a list of to-do's for my current project. I'll constantly re-arrange these based off priority and I cross them off and move them to the completed section when I'm finished with that particular task. Code Comments: Some programmers pepper their projects source code with: // TODO: Fix this completely atrocious code before anyone sees it Plus, I know that there are some tools that show you a list of all TODOs in your code as well. Website Task Tracker: Remember The Milk Backpack Manymoon Voo2do Gmail Tasks TeuxDeux TodoDodo Ta-da lists ... and many more What have you found to be the best method of keeping track of your to-do lists for multiple projects? Related Question: What can someone do to get organized around here? Related Question: Getting Organized; the to-do list.

  • ANDROID. Emulate Hardware Keys with an IME. Doesn't work with Dialog and Spinner

    - by shutdown11
I have understand that the only way to inject KeyEvents in the Android System is to implement an Input Method. I have created my IME with the purpose to control from remote the device. I emulate the hardware keys using the method private void keyDownUp(int keyEventCode) { getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN, keyEventCode)); getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_UP, keyEventCode)); } in my class that extends InputMethodService. It works fine until an AlertDialog, or the menu of a Spinner comes in foreground. Also the windows that appears when the Menu key is problematic. My IME can't get focus on them, and the keyevents are sent to the activity behind them. Using hardware keys, the Dialog get the focus and you can select the botton on the Dialog. How can i emulate that, using the IME(or anything else)?

  • Accessing rails flash[:notice] in a model

    - by titaniumdecoy
I am trying to assign a message to flash[:notice] in a model observer. This question has already been asked: Ruby on Rails: Observers and flash[:notice] messages? However, I get the following error message when I try to access it in my model: undefined local variable or method `flash' for #<ModelObserver:0x2c1742c> Here is my code: class ModelObserver < ActiveRecord::Observer observe A, B, C def after_save(model) puts "Model saved" flash[:notice] = "Model saved" end end I know the method is being called because "Model saved" is printed to the terminal. Is it possible to access the flash inside an observer, and if so, how?

  • Lighting and OpenGL ES

    - by FX
    Hi all, I'm working on getting a simple lighting right on my OpenGL ES iPhone scene. I'm displaying a simple object centered on the origin, and using an arcball to rotate it by touching the screen. All this works nicely, except I try to add one fixed light (fixed w.r.t. eye position) and it is badly screwed: the whole object (an icosahedron in this example) is lit uniformly, i.e. it all appears in the same color. I have simplified my code as much as possible so it's standalone and still reproduces what I experience: glClearColor (0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 1.); glClear (GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); glEnable (GL_DEPTH_TEST); glEnable(GL_LIGHTING); glMatrixMode (GL_PROJECTION); glLoadIdentity (); glOrthof(-1, 1, -(float)backingWidth/backingHeight, (float)backingWidth/backingHeight, -10, 10); glMatrixMode (GL_MODELVIEW); glLoadIdentity (); GLfloat ambientLight[] = { 0.2f, 0.2f, 0.2f, 1.0f }; GLfloat diffuseLight[] = { 0.8f, 0.8f, 0.8, 1.0f }; GLfloat specularLight[] = { 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f, 1.0f }; GLfloat position[] = { -1.5f, 1.0f, -400.0f, 0.0f }; glEnable(GL_LIGHT0); glLightfv(GL_LIGHT0, GL_AMBIENT, ambientLight); glLightfv(GL_LIGHT0, GL_DIFFUSE, diffuseLight); glLightfv(GL_LIGHT0, GL_SPECULAR, specularLight); glLightfv(GL_LIGHT0, GL_POSITION, position); glShadeModel(GL_SMOOTH); glEnable(GL_NORMALIZE); float currRot[4]; [arcball getCurrentRotation:currRot]; glRotatef (currRot[0], currRot[1], currRot[2], currRot[3]); float f[4]; f[0] = 0.5; f[1] = 0; f[2] = 0; f[3] = 1; glMaterialfv (GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, GL_AMBIENT, f); glMaterialfv (GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, GL_DIFFUSE, f); f[0] = 0.2; f[1] = 0.2; f[2] = 0.2; f[3] = 1; glMaterialfv (GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, GL_SPECULAR, f); glEnableClientState (GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); drawSphere(0, 0, 0, 1); where the drawSphere function actually draws an icosahedron: static void drawSphere (float x, float y, float z, float rad) { glPushMatrix (); glTranslatef (x, y, z); glScalef (rad, rad, rad); // Icosahedron const float vertices[] = { 0., 0., -1., 0., 0., 1., -0.894427, 0., -0.447214, 0.894427, 0., 0.447214, 0.723607, -0.525731, -0.447214, 0.723607, 0.525731, -0.447214, -0.723607, -0.525731, 0.447214, -0.723607, 0.525731, 0.447214, -0.276393, -0.850651, -0.447214, -0.276393, 0.850651, -0.447214, 0.276393, -0.850651, 0.447214, 0.276393, 0.850651, 0.447214 }; const GLubyte indices[] = { 1, 11, 7, 1, 7, 6, 1, 6, 10, 1, 10, 3, 1, 3, 11, 4, 8, 0, 5, 4, 0, 9, 5, 0, 2, 9, 0, 8, 2, 0, 11, 9, 7, 7, 2, 6, 6, 8, 10, 10, 4, 3, 3, 5, 11, 4, 10, 8, 5, 3, 4, 9, 11, 5, 2, 7, 9, 8, 6, 2 }; glVertexPointer (3, GL_FLOAT, 0, vertices); glDrawElements (GL_TRIANGLES, sizeof(indices)/sizeof(indices[0]), GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, indices); glPopMatrix (); } A movie of what I see as the result is here. Thanks to anyone who can shed some light into this (no kidding!). I'm sure it will look embarassingly trivial to someone, but I swear I have looked at many lighting tutorials before this and am stuck.

  • Why is the proper "respond_to" format not getting called?

    - by humble_coder
Hi All, I'm having a bit of an odd issue. Really too odd to type out, but here goes. Basically I have a controller that refuses to "respond_to" using javascript unless I assign my "chart.generate_xml" to a variable before the "respond_to" block like so: @xml = @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) respond_to do |format| format.html format.js{ render :update do |page| page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @xml #page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) end } If I remove the upper "@xml= …" portion and go with the lower "page.insert", the "format.js" section doesn't get called. And if I try to force the format with "request.format = :js", I get the javascript returned as text. I'm not doing anything special here in that method call, so I'm not sure why it would choose to respond any differently. FWIW, the method that triggers this controller action is using JS to do so, so I'm confused as to why "format.js" isn't always getting called. Thoughts? Best.

  • Simulating a mouse button click in Windows

    - by Ncarlson
Hi everyone, I'm writing Remote Desktop clone in C++ using QT. So far I'm able to move the mouse cursor around fine. QT has a nice setPos function for that. However, I'm a bit lost as to what API/Library to use for simulating mouse button clicks. One method I'm aware of is to send the WM_(event) to a window using the window's HWND. However, I was hoping there was a more salient method for taking complete control over a mouse. Is there any other way to tell the operating system that the left mouse button has been clicked? Thanks.

  • Limit on FileReference uploads?!

    - by Rudy
Hello, I am currently uploading files in ActionScript 3 using the upload() method of the FileReference class. I built an uploader than can do simultaneous or parallel uploads, having a variable set the number of maximum uploads at a time. I noticed that for Internet Explorer I could be uploading 10 or more files simultaneously, but FireFox and Safari seems to cap the number of uploads to 2. That is, when I call the upload method on per say, 3 files, only 2 will get events back (such as ProgressEvent.PROGRESS). Only when one of the 2 uploads finishes, then the 3rd one will start. This behavior does not happen for Internet Explorer. I have tried with a large number of files, and some big files, to make sure this behavior was consistent. I was wondering if anyone noticed this behavior please, and if so, what is the reason for this behavior please? I appreciate your help, Thank you very much, Rudy

  • Ruby on Rails: Unit Testing non activerecord models and still load fixtures

    - by Vaibhav Gumashta
I may be missing something but I am stuck in this scenario: I have a non activerecord model, which I want to test. I have derived its test case class from: Test::Unit::TestCase. However, the test case class for the model, uses within itself, other activerecord model classes and I want to load fixtures for them. My problem is that the fixtures class method is available only when I subclass the test case class from ActiveSupport::TestCase (it is defined within ActiveRecord::TestFixtures which gets included in ActiveSupport::TestCase). Any help, coz running the tests gives me the error: undefined method "fixtures" (which is understandable) and in case I derive my test case class from ActiveSupport::TestCase it complains that there is no corresponding DB table. Also, I don't want to create a dummy table for backing my model class. Thanks a ton!
