• Need better Java application deployment strategy

  I have various Java Swing applications that are used by multiple users. My deployment strategy is to locate the .jar file on a network share, and users create shortcuts to that file. When the user launches an application, the file is copied to their machine and executed locally. This method allows for a single copy of the code and easy updating. The problem is that I can't update the file on the network share if any user is using the application at that time. I can't use Web Start because I don't have access to a cert for signing the jar. My current workaround is a separate application that copies the desired app to the user's local machine, launches the application, and then the launcher exits. There is a several second delay from when the launcher app exits and the user's app becomes visible. Can anyone suggest a better deployment method where I can easily update a central copy of the application, one where Windows XP won't maintain a lock on the file?

I have relation n:n through table colporteur_in_rayons witch have attributes since_date and _until_date. • Enable editing does not call didSelectRowAtIndexPath ??

  Hi I have a UITableViewController where the user should be able to edit the items. In order to enable editing i use this : self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; And for everyone, how does not know where self.editButtonItem comes from, it is predefined by the SDK. So, now when I press on any item, this method is called : - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath but as soon as I hit the edit button and while editing is active, this method does not seemed to be called. Any idea what I missing ? • How Java Runtime Maps to Targets

  According to the Javadocs for Runtime here: Every Java application has a single instance of class Runtime that allows the application to interface with the environment in which the application is running. The current runtime can be obtained from the getRuntime method. An application cannot create its own instance of this class. My question is: what's their definition of an application? Is each JAR/WAR/EAR considered a standalone application? What about a plain ole' Driver.class class with a main() method? What about JEE containers that house EARs and EJBs? I guess I'm trying to understand how many Runtime instances could be up and running inside a complex (JEE) system. And understanding that requires me to understand what specific "things" constitute an "application" in Java terminology. Thanks in advance!

• ValidatorEnable is not defined when rolled with AJAX

  I have some webforms which have been working fine with various static and dynamically generated validators. For some reason now that I have implemented UpdatePanels on the forms, when I manually call the ValidatorEnable() method on one of them (when I click a checkbox) I get the "ValidatorEnable is not defined" error message. I am passing the same clientID etc into the method that I was using before I implemented the AJAX.net controls It would seem .net isnt rendering the /WebResource.axd?d=aUu4P3dfjWWyw3KQ9t2ZdqxnzYhrtq9uWWiRZduXE-g1 script to the page, adding it manually I get other missing JS objects. So how can I force it to register the relevant scripts? N.B. The validators in question are being rendered in a repeater

• How Do I create a synchronous version of NSURLConnection

  I am using NSURLConnection inside of an NSIncrementalStore to synchronize my NSManagedObject with rest based web service built in Rails. I am aware of +sendSynchronousRequest:returningResponse:error but my understanding is that will not allow me to access such things as the HTTP response status code which I will need to properly handle the response, my understanding is sendSynchronousRequest returns the data if it responds in the 200 range and fails if it doesn't and doesn't really give you much more than that. I'm assuming I will somehow have to block the current method call after the NSURLConnection is instantiated and unblock it after NSURLConnection's delegate sets some value that can be returned by the blocked method. I'm assuming this will involve some combination of NSLock and NSThread but I really don't know where to start with this, any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

• Connecting Android XML and Code

  I'm new to android and have gotten used to doing all my previous UI in code. I can understand the simple examples, but I'm trying something more complex and have no idea how to do it in code and XML. I'm trying to use the google map api and draw text on the map at a specified spot. I have succeeded in doing so by extending overlay and overriding the draw method using drawtext. This has pretty much accomplished what I'm looking to do, but I want have read that is poor practice. I now want to add a second line below the first and just using \n does not work. I can work it out using another drawtext method, but I figured it would be better to create a custom textview, I just have no idea how to position it using code and encapsulate it inside the overlay. Maybe the way I'm doing it is the best way...

• Problem with debug watch in Visual Studio with yield return enumerator methods

  I have a method which returns an IEnumerable<> which it builds up using the yield return syntax: public IEnumerable<ValidationError> Validate(User user) { if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(user.Name)) { yield return new ValidationError("Name", ValidationErrorType.Required); } [...] yield break; } If I put a breakpoint in the method, I can step over each line, but if I try to use the Watch or Immediate windows to view the value of a variable I get this error: Cannot access a non-static member of outer type '[class name].Validate' via nested type '[class name]' Does anyone know why this is and how I can get around it?

I need to find a way to call the allAnimal() method and display all its Animal Id's in the JList. How can i do this ?

• Java: Stopping a thread that has run for too long?

  Say I've got something like this public void run(){ Thread behaviourThread = new Thread(abstractBehaviours[i]); behaviourThread.start(); } And I want to wait until abstractBehaviours[i] run method has either finished or run for 5000 milliseconds. How do I do that? behaviourThread.join(5000) doesn't seem to do that afaik (something is wrong with my code and I've put it down to that). All the abstract abstractBehaviour class is of course Runnable. I don't want to implement it inside each run method as that seems ugly and there are many different behaviours, I'd much rather have it in the calling/executing thread and do it just once. Solutions? First time doing something as threaded as this. Thanks!

  Hi, I have a basic question about starting a frame-by-frame animation. When I call the AnimationDrawable.start() method from my code directly, it doesn't seem to work. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { ... mAnimation.start(); ... } But if I put this line inside the onClick() callback method of a button, pressing the buton starts the animation. Why doesn't this line work in the code? Thanks!

• Why don't Domain class static methods work from inside a grails "service"?

  I want a grails service to be able to access Domain static methods, for queries, etc. For example, in a controller, I can call IncomingCall.count() to get the number of records in table "IncomingCall" but if I try to do this from inside a service, I get the error: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'incomingStatusService': Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: static ms.wdw.tropocontrol.IncomingCall.count() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] How do these methods get injected? There's no magic def statement in a controller that appears to do this. Or is the problem that Hibernate isn't available from my Service class?

• Using javascript on an HTML table?

  Hi, few questions, just wondering if anyone can help? I have a table with 1 long row (1000 pixels) and one single column, how do i go about creating a method whereby when the mouse cursor is on the leftmost side of the cell, a variable, lets say X is set to 0, the further right the mouse cursor moves in the cell, the value of X increases. I know that sounds like a strange question but im working on a project where this type of functionality is desired. Is there a javascript method to create this feature? Thanks for any help.

The warning it gives me is 'UITextView' may not respond to '-stringByAppendingString:' When I replace output with at string it works though and that confused me. Any suggestions?   class String contains very useful method - String.Join(string, string[]). It creates a string from an array, separating each element of array with a symbol given. But general - it doesn't add a separator after the last element! I uses it for ASP.NET coding for separating with "<br />" or Environment.NewLine. So I want to add an empty row after each row in asp:Table. What method of IEnumerable<TableRow> can I use for the same functionality?

(By the method's contract, nodeType will always describe a subclass of DirectiveNode.) I am not sure when calling a constructor would return null, so I am not sure if I should handle anything at all, but I still want to be on the safe side and throw an exception if something goes wrong.

  Is there a way to get a list of the exposed functions from a Flash object? For example, you could get a list of all methods in an object by executing: for (var i in object) { if (typeof object[i] == "function") { console.log(i); } } The only issue is that this won't expose any methods registered through the ExternalInterfaces API. I can try and see if the function exists (object['method']) and it tells me it is a function, but I would have to guess every existing method in this manner. NOTE: Obviously, I don't have access to the actionscript.

GetId is a String not int method that is not mistake. Test fails : unexpected invocation of person.getId() I'm using jMock any help would be appreciated. As I understood when I call this get method to execute it properly I need to mock person.getId() , and I've been sniping around in circles for a while now any help would be appreciated.

  I have a user model and a role model with a has_and_belongs_to_many reliationship. The join table is roles_users (two columns - the PK of the user and the role) and has no corresponding model. I want to have a method that returns all users with a given role. In SQL that'd be something like SELECT u.id FROM role.r, roles_users ru WHERE r.role_id = #{role.id} AND r.role_id = ru.role_id I see that Rails' activerecord has a find_by_sql method, but it's only expecting one results to be returned. What is the "Rails Way" to give me a list of users with a given role e.g. def self.find_users_with_role(role) users = [] users << # Some ActiveRecord magic or custom code here..? end

  I'm interested in using the Module Pattern to better organize my future projects. Unfortunately, there are only a few brief tutorials and proof-of-concept examples of the Module Pattern. Using the module pattern, I would like to organize projects into this sort of structure: project.arm.object.method(); Where "project" is my global project name, "arm" is a sub-section or branch of the project, "object" is an individual object, and so on to the methods and properties.   From the documentation of UITableView / UITableViewController: If you decide to use a UIViewController subclass rather than a subclass of UITableViewController to manage a table view, you should perform a couple of the tasks mentioned above to conform to the human-interface guidelines. To clear any selection in the table view before it’s displayed, implement the viewWillAppear: method to clear the selected row (if any) by calling deselectRowAtIndexPath:animated:. After the table view has been displayed, you should flash the scroll view’s scroll indicators by sending a flashScrollIndicators message to the table view; you can do this in an override of the viewDidAppear: method of UIViewController. So lets say I do my custom stuff here and I do not flash the scroll indicator, and I do not reset the selection (which I think is wrong anyways, the user wants to know from where he came from). Will they reject it?

  Hi, It has been decided to write some unit tests using moq etc..It's lots of legacy code c# (this is beyond my control so cannot answer the whys of this) Now how do you cope with a scenario when you dont want to hit the database but you indirectly still hit the database?
