• dpkg behaving strangely?

  When I use apt to get a package, I have been receiving the same error message. Here is an example trying to install wicd (which is already installed): Reading package lists... After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used. • How to share internet connection on Mac os x to Virtualbox vm's using Host-only

  In one line : is the following possible : Airport <- osx bridge - vbox-Host-only - vm's On a mac os x, i have virtual box with a virtual machine. For now i have configured 2 interfaces for my virtual machine eth0 is normal bridge for my vm to acces the internet (when airport is connected) eth1 is set to host-only so i can access my vm from the host when there is no wifi/aiport is down. So basically it's like Adapter 1 when there is Wifi, Adapter 2 when there is not. I'd like to have only one configuration to make it simpler. I thought i could just keep the Host only configuration, and on the host (os x) go to internet sharing and select "share from airport" to vboxnet0 (the vb virtual interface). Only to find out that vboxnet0 dosn't show up in the interfaces list on os x preferences. I know that on a linux host you could install something called bridge-utils and use that to bridge the two insterfaces. Is there any thing like that for Mac ?

What I decided now to do is to use CodebaseHQ’s API to access a project’s SVN repository and display the commit notes so some users who download new updates can check what was changed or updated in an app. This saves a heck of a lot of time, especially when your apps are in beta and you are making several changes daily based on feedback.   One of the most common questions I receive is if there any tool available to generate load on SQL Server. Absolutely there is a fabulous free tool available to generate load on SQL Server on Codeplex. This tool was released in 2008 but it is still extremely relevant to generate the load on SQL Server as well works fabulously. CodePlex is a project initiated by Microsoft for hosting open source softwares. The best part of this SQL Server Load Generator is that users can run multiple simultaneous queries again SQL Server using different login account and different application name. The interface of the tool is extremely easy to use and very intuitive as well. One of the things which I felt needed improvement was a default configuration. As every single time when I was adding a query the default settings were showing up and I had to manually change that. However, when I went to Menu >> Tools >>Options I was really happy as it has options to change every single default which is available. Here one can give default username, password, database name as well various settings related to configuration. Additionally application logging is also possible through the options. A couple of other important points I noticed was the button to reset counters as well status bar containing useful information of Total Threads, Completed Queries and Failed Queries. Just in case, you have WLS 10.3.6 running in 32-bit mode and the JDK being used is installed for 64-bit mode [On Solaris OS, JDK 64-bit installation comprises of installing 32-bit JDK followed by a patch for 64-bit JDK].  Verification of the mode being used One can verify the mode of Weblogic Server in the following ways Either check the commonEnv.sh script located at $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/wlserver_10.3/common/bin where $MIDDLEWARE_HOME refers to the install directory of Middleware.   Hi, I am new to Ubuntu and I'm still trying to figure this OS out (for work it's brilliant, better than Windows). Before I wrote this question, I did my research via Google, this website and even in StackOverflow.com. Whatever error came up, I googled it but with no success on how to solve this. Back to the main point: I tried to install (lamp) apache2 with this guide (in German) and this one(in english). Then I got stuck at the start command (with which one is able to start the apache2 server), my first try to run the server was a success until i wrote sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload then it showed me an error: $ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload * Starting web server apache2 Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/ports.conf: Invalid command 'oder', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'reload' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. [fail] I didn't even write the word "oder" so I closed the shell and opened it anew. It showed the same error. After that, I've done some research and found out that my file (index.html (which is in my /var/www folder)), which I access via the browser, when I type in http://localhost should show up and tell that it was a success. So I removed apache2 and installed it again but now the following errors appear: $ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start * Starting web server apache2 Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/ports.conf: Invalid command 'oder', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'start' failed.   I have a Scientific Atlanta EPC2203 cable modem and a TP-Link TL-WA500G access point. When I connect my computer directly to modem with a CAT5e cable I have internet connection on my laptop (when i type ipconfig i see my external ip there, provided by isp). So I decided to have wireless network in the flat, allowing other devices to connect as well. I bought this wireless ap (TL-WA500G) configured Wireless security stuff, and connected it to my modem. With that configuration (by default AP has static ip of 192.168.1.254) only my computer can connect to internet over wifi, but not any other device. When I set the IP of AP to Dynamic IP (DHCP) it is the same. How should I change my configuration to enable all wifi devices to connect to internet?

• Roadmap for Thinktecture IdentityServer

  I got asked today if I could publish a roadmap for thinktecture IdentityServer (idrsv in short). Well – I got a lot of feedback after B1 and one of the biggest points here was the data access layer. So I made two changes: I moved to configuration database access code to EF 4.1 code first. That makes it much easier to change the underlying database. So it is now just a matter of changing the connection string to use real SQL Server instead of SQL Compact. Important when you plan to do scale out. I included the ASP.NET Universal Providers in the download. This adds official support for SQL Azure, SQL Server and SQL Compact for the membership, roles and profile features. Unfortunately the Universal Provider use a different schema than the original ASP.NET providers (that sucks btw!) – so I made them optional. If you want to use them go to web.config and uncomment the new provider. Then there are some other small changes: The relying party registration entries now have added fields to add extra data that you want to couple with the RP. One use case could be to give the UI a hint how the login experience should look like per RP. This allows to have a different look and feel for different relying parties. I also included a small helper API that you can use to retrieve the RP record based on the incoming WS-Federation query string. WS-Federation single sign out is now conforming to the spec. I made certificate based endpoint identities for SSL endpoints optional. This caused some problems with configuration and versioning of existing clients. I hope I can release the RC in the next days. If there are no major issues, there will be RTM very soon!

• Apache returns the perl script source instead of execute the script when the request comes from chrome

  I've just finish to install awstats on my web server, and it runs fine using firefox. But when I try to open the awstats page with chrome, the perl source script is downloaded (instead of being executed). it seems the MIME requested by Chrome gave a different behavior compared to Chrome. Any idea ? • Unable to configure DD-WRT SNMP monitoring with Zabbix

  Installed Zabbix on Ubuntu but not sure what setting I missed. Base on my concept, I would like to using SNMP to monitoring DD-WRT router which it using SNMP service. I did enable to SNMP service at DD-WRT router page. And also created a host at Zabbix with included DD-WRT template. After I done it I still unable to get any connection/information at Zabbix which mean the router doesn't communicate with Zabbix. • Change power button to 'Ask' in Xubuntu 13.10

  I have recently installed Xubuntu 13.10 on my Vaio vpcea making me a Linux beginner. The problem is that laptop's power button is right on the edge of the bezel making it far too easy to press accidentally, in my opinion a design fault by Sony. At present, when I press the power button it shuts down strait away and as you can imagine, when I'm accidentally pressing it all the time it gets very annoying! So I planned to change it to ask what I would like to do when I press it or at least ask if I'm sure. So I went through the xfce GUI options "Settings Manager" - "Power Manager" to the field "When power button is pressed", but it was already set to "Ask". So I did some digging and found a thread telling me to navigate to /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml where it said to find power-button-action and check that value="3". It already did. So I looked some more and found this thread which focuses on acpi scripts. I tried solution 1 & 2 using sudoedit to change the files accordingly (I have made executable bash shell scripts already so I think I followed them correctly), but still no difference. I also found this thread which instructed me to edit /etc/systemd/logind.conf so that HandlePowerKey=ignore. Still no luck. I even tried my own approach to completely disable /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh by renaming it powerbtn.sh.bak hoping for at least no response from the power button... and I have done many reboots in between... but still it shuts down! I have also read that some people have the file /etc/acpi/events/power_button, but I do not. So does anyone have any other ideas? What else could be executing the shutdown sequence Is there something I'm missing? I haven't undone any of these actions so every one of the above files is currently edited on my computer, with the exception that "Solution 2" automatically undone "Solution 1" above. Thanks guys.

  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a CDROM emulator that runs on Linux. I want to emulate this configuration: [CDROM DRIVE]----USB CABLE----[COMPUTER UNDER TEST] Where [COMPUTER UNDER TEST] is a computer that boots from a physical CD inserted into the [CDROM DRIVE]. Only instead of the [CDROM DRIVE] I want the following configuration: [CD IMAGE BUILD MACHINE]-----USB CABLE-----[COMPUTER UNDER TEST]. I want to build an ISO image on the [CD IMAGE BUILD MACHINE] and have some sort of USB CDROM emulator running on it to serve up the ISO image to the [COMPUTER UNDER TEST] as though it was talking to the [CDROM DRIVE]. Does this exist? If it does, I can't find it. I want to do this so I can test out bootable CDs without burning a lot of coasters.

  I have an: Ubuntu 12.04 with proprietary Boardcom STA Wireless driver installed BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card TP-LINK TD-W8101G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router Yesterday before I went to sleep, I still connect to my wireless access point, this morning when I start my laptop I don't see it in the list - there are some neighbors listed but not mine. The WLAN is green, with my old Nokia E72, I still see my access point with 100% signal. I have tried to restart my laptop and turn the firmware off/on by the switch but no help. I have read the WirelessTroubleShootingGuide but I can do anything. • monitoring nfs with monit

  I'd like to monitor NFS mounts and the NFS server process using Monit. On the server, I'd need a PID file, but I can't seem to find a way of getting that created with existing configuration files. Is there a way to do this, or has anyone monitored the server in a different way (checking if port 53 is active, etc). On clients, I was thinking of making Monit simply look for a specific file in an NFS mount, and if it's accessible, all is well. Problem is, if the NFS server does go down, file requests usually hang (perhaps even indefinitely, not sure). How would one get around this issue with monit? Any configuration examples would be greatly appreciated!

• Application Event Log keeps getting corrupted

  I recently asked about repairing a corrupt event log, because it seemed to be a one-off event. The event log has since exhibited the same behavior 3 times. We have been trying to find patterns, but so far we have found nothing. The server runs several ASP.NET applications and three scheduled tasks written in .NET. The last modified date of the event log once happened to be the same time as one of the scheduled tasks, but the others have not been. Any suggestions of where to look next or a way we can get any information out of a corrupt evtx file? The server is running critical e-commerce applications, so we want to keep the number of restarts required to a minimum. • Wireless not working on desktop with Asus USB-N13 (B1) wireless adapter

  I am trying to connect my desktop to a wireless network. I have purchased an ASUS USB-N13 B1 adapter. I have followed instructions for installing drivers and disabling conflicting drivers. I have thoroughly searched and could not find a solution. The adapter is recognized and powered on. I have entered the ssid and password information into the wireless network configuration. Other machines can connect to this wireless network, and the machine can connect online via ethernet without issue.   I have a Poweredge R510 server with a PERC H700 Integrated RAID controller that is exhibiting slower than expected disk speeds (RAID 1 and RAID 10 arrays) and I'm looking at the configuration of the server. Running the command omreport chassis biossetup on the server shows me the following configuration setting: Embedded SATA Controller : ATA I can also see that the possible options for this setting are: off | ata | qdma | raid I've been looking online to find out what this setting means and what the various options refer to but I've been unable to find anything particularly helpful, so I was hoping that somebody here could help to enlighten me. • Wireless internet connection connects but internet does not work (no packets received). Wired does.

  When I connect my PC via ethernet cable to my ADSL router it works fine. When I connect via Wireless it connects and the internet will work for a random amount of time and then stop working. It stays connected with a strong signal but no packets are received. My laptop/iphone are right next to it and wireless works fine. If I open the Wireless USB status, it says it is connected to my SSID with full strength (54 mps - I am 3 meteres away from my router) and the activty shows as Packets 594 SENT and 105 RECEIVED (this goes up VERY slowly) I have tried the following: Turned off anitvirus and firewall completely. Tested the wifi signal- I am writing this on my laptop which is next to my PC and also has full wifi strength. Tried a different wireless adapter - I dug out an old PCI wireless card - it does the exact same thing. Compared all wireless settings to my laptop. I can ping google.com and it replies (sometimes with packet loss) When I reboot the PC it will connect for a minute or two (random time) and then just stops again. I tried Firefox, IE etc. no joy I have updated all latest versions (Netgear WG111v2) and drivers Checked Event Log - nothing unusual Ping the router (and even connect as admin for the few minutes when the internet does work) Changed the MTU down to 1200 using DrTCP Checked Device Manager for conflicts - none. I ping the router from the PC (192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.1) and it replies with 4 packets. BUT, on my router admin page (which I access via http on my laptop wirelessly) - if I ping 192.168.0.10 all packets timeout (pinging my laptop 192.168.0.12 works fine) My router admin page shows the leased IP address for 192.168.0.10 (ie it is definitely talking to the router initially) Now I am out of ideas - please help. I think it is an OS/Software issue as I have tried 2 different wireless adapaters (PCI and USB) with the same result but all other wireless devices work fine around mine). It's not the firewall. It is getting assigned an IP address correctly (my PC gets 192.168.0.10, my laptop is .12) It is assigned by DHCP. As soon as I plug in the ethernet cable it all works fine. Repairing the adapter sometimes helps but it will always stop working after a random time. The wireless adapter always shows as connected with Excellent signal but the internet does not work. I am running Windows XP SP3 and have tried a Netgear WG111v2 USB adapter. Thanks in advance! UPDATE: The internet seems to be working, it is just either sending packets too small or slow to work (some small pages load bits of them very slowly but then hang).
