• Rails - Ability to Enable/Disable Links on a View?

  Hello, I have a UserMailer View that has several link_to's like so: <%= link_to('XXXXXXXX Link Title', item_url(@item, :only_path => false), :style => 'color:#5196E3;text-decoration:underline;') %> The page has several different links. I'd like to know if there is a way to globally set in the view to enable or disable the links. If enabled, the above would run like normal, if not the block above would just show the text (XXXXXXXX Link Title) and not be linked? Any ideas other than wrapping every link_to inside a IF statement? Thanks

• Does Windows 7 have a Kiosk Mode?

  I'm writing a Kiosk on a Windows 7 computer. The Kiosk is on a touch screen computer, that will not have a keyboard. The application is a WPF application running the .NET Framework version 3.5. I'm having problems with the progress bar task bar showing up (blinking) at the bottom of the screen. This unfortunately gives the user access to the background operating system. Is there someway to lock a full screen application window into the front of the screen without using it on-top-of-everything mode. Some sort of Kiosk mode, or some tool that was designed for this.

• Programmatically Detecting Valid Style Properties In Flex

  If I want to know if an object has a particular property I can code this: if (SomeObject.hasOwnProperty('xyz')) { // some code } But some styles masquerade as properties at design time such as Button.color... How can I know what style properties are valid at runtime? ie: What is the equivalent of hasOwnProperty for getStyle/setStyle? In other words how can I know if an object HAS A particular style variable... When I write: MyButton.setStyle('qsfgaeWT','-33'); It won't accomplish anything, but it also doesn't error. How can I know programmatically that 'qsfgaeWT' is NOT a valid style of 'Button'??

• JXTreeTable and BorderHighlighter Drawing Border on All Rows

  I'm using a BorderHighlighter on my JXTreeTable to put a border above each of the table cells on non-leaf rows to give a more clear visual separator for users. The problem is that when I expand the hierarchical column, all cells in the hierarchical column, for all rows, include the Border from the Highlighter. The other columns are displaying just fine. • Winform not scrolling when drawing objects on it

  Hello All, C#3.0,.net framework 3.5 I am drawing ( using the draw method in the graphics class) a lot of solid rectangles on a windows form vertically. The form starts at 500 x 500 px and the rectangles are only drawn at runtime after data is downloaded from the net -and the number of rectangles depends on the download so I do not know it upfront. So only a few rectangles are drawn as the size of the form is fixed. So I googled/Binged ( lest someone suggest I do that) and found a few tips but they don't work in this case -like setting the forms AutoScroll property to true or trying double buffering.I also tried to draw on a listbox control and set it's scroll property etc...but no dice. I'm guessing there is no way to display , say 200 rectangles vertically on a windows form using draw. I need some other solution... any ideas please. Maybe a list of pictureboxes and then populate each picturebox with the solid color ? Thanks

• Notifying when screen is off

  I'm trying to generate a notification which vibrates the phone and plays a sound when the screen is off (cpu turned off). According to the Log messages, the notification is being sent, but the phone doesn't vibrate or play the sound until I turn the screen on again. I tried holding a 2 second temporary wakelock (PowerManager.PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK), which I thought would be ample time for the notification to be played, but alas, it still doesn't. Any pointers to get the notification to run reliably? I'm testing this on an G1 running Android 1.6.   I am trying to draw a cupola circles at random positions in an Android application. I draw them on a bitmap and then draw that bitmap on the canvas. This is the function where a draw the circles: private void drawRandomCircles(int numOfCircles) { Canvas c = new Canvas(b); Paint cPaint = new Paint; cPaitn.setColor(Color.RED); for(int i = 0; i < numOfCircles; i++) { int x = Math.Random % 100; int y = Math.Random % 100; c.drawCircle(x, y, 20, cPaint) } } The Bitmap b is global. And after calling this function I just draw the bitmap in the onDraw method. Now the problem is that I only get one circle drawn on the screen, no matter the size of numOfCircles. Any clue what is happening here?

• CSS Issue in Firefox/IE

  I'm working on a site's CSS and am running across an issue with the body margin section. If you look at this in Firefox and then IE, you can see the line isn't lined up right in Firefox, but it is in IE. (In the black header section). • What is the best way to manage application screens in SWT?

  I'm creating a standalone SWT desktop application that has around 10 different screens (few wizards, help, forms, etc). Some elements on screen don't change at all (like header, background, etc) and there is a working area that changes depending on what is clicked, etc. What is the best way to manage application screens? Do I need to create all screen at startup and then show/hide them depending on what is clicked? Or do I need to create those screens dynamically? Also, I couldn't find any way to show/hide a Composite, do I need to dispose it and then create again? What is the best practice? I'm new to SWT developing outside of Eclipse so any help would be beneficial.

• prevent hover set by the CSS

  I try to prevent the Browser from using the :hover effect of the CSS. $("ul#mainFilter a").hover( function(o){ o.preventDefault(); ...do my stuff... }, function(o){ o.preventDefault(); ...do my stuff... }); I tired it with return false; to but it does not work. Does anyone know how to do this? due the answers i give you some more nfo: I have set the a and a:hover styles, in my CSS already. Now if JS is available on the clients machine, i want to overwrite the effect with a smoother one. (using jQuery color plugin) As mentioned by fudgey, a work around would be to set the style (using .css()) but i would have to overwrite every single effect specified in the CSS (see here: http://jsfiddle.net/raPeX/1/ ). I am looking for a generic solution.

• C# Using singleton instead of a global static instance

  I ran into a problem today and a friend recommended I use a global static instance or more elegantly a singleton pattern. I spent a few hours reading about singletons but a few things still escape me. Background: What Im trying to accomplish is creating an instance of an API and use this one instance in all my classes (as opposed to making a new connection, etc). • Which async call use for DB connection and still responsive GUI?--

  Hi, My application connects to MSSQL but sometimes it takes a while and the GUI is getting frozen. I would like to do the connection on the other thread, I guess BeginInvoke would be the best way (I know about background worker but I would like to learn this). I have studied MSDN page but I did not understand what is the best way to use? They also say that you can use only callback when the thread that called the async.method does not need to know the results...I dont understand it as I believe I can set some variable in the other thread to "pass" the result well. I would just need the GUI to be not frozen while the connection is being established. Thank you for your advice.

• How to flush data in php and disconnect user but keep the script alive

  This is a trick question, while developing a php+ajax application i felt into some long queries, nothing wrong with them, but they could be done in background. I know that there's a way to just send a reply to user while throwing the real processing to another process by exec(), however it dosen't feels right for me, this might generate exploits and it's not pratical on making it compatible with virtual servers and cross platform. PHP offers the ob_* functions although they help on flushing the cache, but the user will keep connected until the script is running. I'm wondering if there's an alternate to exec to keep a script running after sending data to user and closing connection/thread with apache, or a less "dirty" way to have processing data sent to another script.

A snippet of mine seems like it cannot be converted from one to the other, and if so, I just don't know how to do it and am getting a little frustrated. Invoice inv = Invs.Find( (Invoice someInv) => thePO.SubPONumber == someInv.SubInvoiceNumber); However, I get the following error when I do this: Cannot convert lambda expression to delegate type 'System.Predicate' because the parameter types do not match the delegate parameter types Is there any way to fix this without restructuring my whole codebase?

• Ridiculously Simple Erlang Question

  Read (skimmed enough to get coding) through Erlang Programming and Programming Erlang. One question, which is as simple as it sounds: If you have a process Pid1 on machine m1 and a billion million messages are sent to Pid1, are messages handled in parallel by that process (I get the impression no) and is there any guarantee of order when processing messages? ie. Received in order sent? Coming from the whole C/Thread pools/Shared State background ... I want to get this concrete. I understand distributing an application, but want to ensure the 'raw bones' are what I expect before building processes and distributing workload. Also, am I right in thinking the whole world is currently flicking through Erlang texts ;)

• Can't draw to a pictureBox in a loop

I did the same with the on_click event to the pictureBox but instead if a looping some Points ive just used mouse X and Y. I have verified the lists of points that they dont contain rubish :D
