• Really basic Django E-commerce? Where do I start

  I'm trying to set up a really basic e-commerce site with Django, and am trying to figure out the best place to start. I am relatively comfortable with the framework itself, but have never done any sort of e-commerce development in any language, so I want to learn about some best practices so I don't make any huge or obvious mistakes. I've looked at Satchmo, and even went as far as installing and playing around with it, but it looks like way more than I want. I basically want to show users a list of things, and let them click a button to buy one. No cart, no shipping, just click a button, connect with Authorize.net (or something similar) to do the transaction, and then display a confirmation page. Any suggestions or online tutorials people have found helpful? Even perhaps a tutorial in another language. Or maybe a really lightweight Django plugin that doesn't try to do everything like Satchmo? I've been coming up with very little so far. Thanks!

• C# Threading and Sql Connections

  I have a method that attempts to update a sql server database in an ASP.NET application. If the update fails, it catches the exception and then queues the update in MSMQ, and then spins up a new thread that will later de-queue the pending update and try again. When the thread starts, it fails to open a database connection because it is attempting to connect using Network Service as the login. The sql connection is using Windows Authentication, and will work outside of the thread. If I put a breakpoint in the code that executes inside the new thread and check the Thread.CurrentPrincipal, it shows the Identity as being the correct user. Why is the sql connection attempting to be opened by the Network Service account? I can elaborate further is necessary. Thanks.

  I have an application that is deployed on tomcat on server A and sends queries to a huge variety of SQL Server databases on an server B. I am concerned that my application could overload this SQL Server database server and would like some way to preventing it making requests to connect to any database on that server if some arbitrary number of connections were already in existence and unclosed. I am looking at using connection pooling but am under the impression that this will only pool connections to a specific database on the SQL Server server, I want to control the total of these combined connections that will occur to many different databases (incidentally I can only find out the names of individual db's dynamically as they change day to day). Will connection pooling take care of this for me, are am I looking at this from the wrong perspective? I have no access to the configuration of the SQL Server server. Links to tutorials or working examples of your suggested solution are most welcome!

• Drawing rubber band line during user drag

  In my iPhone app, I would like the user to be able to "connect" two of my views by: 1) starting a drag in View A 2) as they drag towards View B, a straight line with one end in View A and the other end under at the current drag point, animates in a rubber-band fashion 3) when/if they release in View B, the line is then shown between the two views I've seen examples of dragging and dropping views, and other examples of animations, but I haven't seen one that is a simple example of this kind of user-directed animation. Any pointers towards examples or the specific docs I should be looking at would be appreciated. If this turns out to be trivial - my apologies. Although I've done quite a bit of development, I'm just getting started in the iPhone SDK and Core Graphics.

• ASP.NET Windows authentication with wrong identity over VPN

  I have ASP.NET application with windows authentication. When I browse it from home over VPN (Cisco VPN Client) as a username in the windows identity I get "\" not the credentials from the AD of the server (the same that I am using to connect to the VPN) even though I fill them in the prompt for localhost authentication from the browser. This only happens with Firefox. In the IE and Chrome after the prompt I get 401.1 Unauthorized page from IIS. How to make IIS to use the right credentials or the problem is somewhere else? Any ideas?

• Best way to code a webservice in weblogic?

  I am new to Weblogic and J2ee. I need to build a webservice that simply runs a query on the backend database (DB2 zOS) and returns the results. Being new to this I have a few questions. 1) What is the best way to build the webservice? 2) How do I connect to the database with weblogic. 3) Is there a way to cache the data returned so that the next request for the same data is pulled from cache?   Hi everyone, Does anyone out there use SQL Express 2008 R2 in a production environment? I am looking at hosting a Windows VPS as a server for a client software product I have developed. Clients connect to the server, send their data to a service running on the server, and the service updates the database. I'm trying to keep running costs down, and whilst I have a license for SQL Developer I obviously can't use this in a production environment. • Ubuntu 8.04 LTS MySQL port remote access

  Hi! I have tried everything I know, but still no solution to this problem. MySQL works perfectly on localhost, but it seems port 3306 is blocked from the outside... I have commented out "bind-address" in /etc/mysql/my.cnf, and there is no iptables rules that deny this port. (I have even opened the port in iptables just to be sure) Still I can`t connect to the server from a remote connection (telnet or portscan returns negative results). Where is the problem?

I'm following this example and have trouble here: connection = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1:5432/testdb", "mkyong", "123456"); According to the JavaDoc for DriverManager the first string is "a database url of the form jdbc:subprotocol:subname. When I connect to the server I type in psql -h dataserv.abc.company.com -d app -U emp24 and give the password qwe123 (for example sake). What should the first argument of getConnection be? I've tried connection = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:postgresql://dataserv.abc.company.com", "emp24", "qwe123"); and get the run time error: no suitable driver found. I've download JDBC4 Postgresql Driver, Version 9.2-1000.

• As a team should we develop locally and merge into the dev server, or develop on the dev server?

  Hey, Recently I was tasked with writing up formal procedures for a team based development enviroment. We have several projects with multiple modules each. Right now there are only two programmers, however there are plans to expand to 4-6 programmers. Each programmer will be working on the same project and possibly pages which may cause over writing or error issues. So far the ideal solution I have thought up is: Local development (WAMP/VM or some virtual server instance on their own machine). Once a developer has finished their developments, they check it into the CVS Repository and merge it wih other fixes etc. The CVS version is then deployed to the primary dev server for testing by the devs. The MySQL DAtabases are kept on the primary dev server and users may remotely connect to it. Any Schema / Data alterations are run through a DB Admin who will notify all devs of any DB Changes (Which should be rare). Does anyone see an issue with this or have a better solution?

• Loading UINavigationController subclass from a Nib

  My situation is as follows: My class SettingsViewController is a subclass of UINavigationController. That class contains the logic of its rootViewController. For example, it acts as the delegate and data source for two table views in that root view controller. I have no problem setting this up programmatically. In the initializer of SettingsViewController, I can create an additional UIViewController to serve as the root view controller, position the table views in its view, and set their delegates and data sources to self. But I want to load that root view via a Nib. The problem is, I do not know how to connect that Nib with my SettingsViewController, how to set the delegates and data sources. The SettingsViewController is not accessible from within the Nib. 'File Owner' represents the root view controller, not the SettingsViewController. How do I access my UINavigationController subclass from within my root view controllers Nib? Thanks in advance.

  I am using a bash script (below) on a remote server (so far using ssh to connect) to execute a python script that downloads a lot of pdf files one at a time (getting the download locations from a text file with the URL's) in a loop. I would like to move the files from the remote server to my local computer as they are downloaded, and then delete the file from the remote server.   I'm in the process converting our CakePHP-built website from Pervasive to SQL Server 2005. After a lot of hassle the setup I've gotten to work is using the ADODB driver with 'connect' as odbc_mssql. This connects to our database and builds the SQL queries just fine. However, here's the rub: one of our Models was associated with an SQL view in Pervasive. I ported over the view, but it appears using the set up that I have that CakePHP can't find the View in SQL Server. Couldn't find much after some Google searches - has anyone else run into a problem like this? Is there a solution/workaround, or is there some redesign in my future?

  I know the general theory but I can't fit in the details. I know that a program resides in the secondary memory of a computer. Once the program begins execution it is entirely copied to the RAM. Then the processor retrive a few instructions (it depends on the size of the bus) at a time, puts them in registers and executes them. I also know that a computer program uses two kinds of memory: stack and heap, which are also part of the primary memory of the computer. The stack is used for non-dynamic memory, and the heap for dynamic memory (for example, everything related to the new operator in C++) What I can't understand is how those two things connect. At what point is the stack used for the execution of the instructions? Instructions go from the RAM, to the stack, to the registers?

  Hi, I have a report to which I have execute-only access - I don't have the access to the RDL file. This report exposes several parameters which I would like to set from URL. I've successfully changed some parameters using the standard param=data form (as explained here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms153586.aspx). However, some parameters don't have the same parameter-prompt and parameter-name. Unfortunately, to pass parameter values by URL I must know the name of the parameter and I don't see how I can deduct from the report and its parameters prompt text. • Are @property's necessary for Interface Builder?

  In my UIViewController subclass, I have 3 UIView's with each a @property as an IBOutlet. I do not use these properties at all in my code. The views get instantiated as soon as the view controller is created and they are deallocated when the view controller is deallocated. I was thinking; can't I just remove the @property's? I did, and I could still connect my instance variables (with IBOutlet) in Interface Builder. So my question now is; is there any use for properties in combination with Interface Builder, or is it OK to leave them out? Is it required for some memory management or something? Or are they really just for use in your own code? And if I do leave them out, do I still need to release them in dealloc?

• How to reference an object in a lower fragment in android

  I am trying to build a help screen that is going to go on a mediaplayer. The idea is to put a fragment with a transparent theme on top of the current view. (See How do I create a help overlay like you see in a few Android apps and ICS? for the basic idea). Now, I understand the steps in the mentioned link, but how do I connect the circles and arrows and paragraphs next to each one (explaining what each one was) to the lower object? Example, I have an object: R.id.music_button and I want there to be and arrow that points to music button. Trying to support as many devices as we do it will be very difficult to just draw a few pictures as part of the top layout and expect them to line up. Again, how do I reference an object on a fragment below the top level? Thanks
