• SPARC M7 Chip - 32 cores - Mind Blowing performance

  The M7 Chip Oracle just announced its Next Generation Processor at the HotChips HC26 conference. As the Tech Lead in our Systems Division's Partner group, I had a front row seat to the extraordinary price performance advantage of Oracle current T5 and M6 based systems. Partner after partner tested  these systems and were impressed with it performance. Just read some of the quotes to see what our partner has been saying about our hardware. We just announced our next generation processor, the M7. This has 32 cores (up from 16-cores in T5 and 12-cores in M6). With 20 nm technology  this is our most advanced processor. The processor has more cores than anything else in the industry today. After the Sun acquisition Oracle has released 5 processors in 4 years and this is the 6th.  The S4 core  The M7 is built using the foundation of the S4 core. This is the next generation core technology. Like its predecessor, the S4 has 8 dynamic threads. It increases the frequency while maintaining the Pipeline depth. Each core has its own fine grain power estimator that keeps the core within its power envelop in 250 nano-sec granularity. Each core also includes Software in Silicon features for Application Acceleration Support. Each core includes features to improve Application Data Integrity, with almost no performance loss. The core also allows using part of the Virtual Address to store meta-data.  User-Level Synchronization Instructions are also part of the S4 core. Each core has 16 KB Instruction and 16 KB Data L1 cache. The Core Clusters  The cores on the M7 chip are organized in sets of 4-core clusters. The core clusters share  L2 cache.  All four cores in the complex share 256 KB of 4 way set associative L2 Instruction Cache, with over 1/2 TB/s of throughput. Two cores share 256 KB of 8 way set associative L2 Data Cache, with over 1/2 TB/s of throughput. With this innovative Core Cluster architecture, the M7 doubles core execution bandwidth. to maximize per-thread performance.  The Chip  Each  M7 chip has 8 sets of these core-clusters. The chip has 64 MB on-chip L3 cache. This L3 caches is shared among all the cores and is partitioned into 8 x 8 MB chunks. Each chunk is  8-way set associative cache. The aggregate bandwidth for the L3 cache on the chip is over 1.6TB/s. Each chip has 4 DDR4 memory controllers and can support upto 16 DDR4 DIMMs, allowing for 2 TB of RAM/chip. The chip also includes 4 internal links of PCIe Gen3 I/O controllers.  Each chip has 7 coherence links, allowing for 8 of these chips to be connected together gluelessly. Also 32 of these chips can be connected in an SMP configuration. A potential system with 32 chips will have 1024 cores and 8192 threads and 64 TB of RAM.  Software in Silicon The M7 chip has many built in Application Accelerators in Silicon. These features will be exposed to our Software partners using the SPARC Accelerator Program.  The M7  has built-in logic to decompress data at the speed of memory access. This means that applications can directly work on compressed data in memory increasing the data access rates. The VA Masking feature allows the use of part of the virtual address to store meta-data.  Realtime Application Data Integrity The Realtime Application Data Integrity feature helps applications safeguard against invalid, stale memory reference and buffer overflows. The first 4-bits if the Pointer can be used to store a version number and this version number is also maintained in the memory & cache lines. When a pointer accesses memory the hardware checks to make sure the two versions match. A SEGV signal is raised when there is a mismatch. This feature can be used by the Database, applications and the OS.  M7 Database In-Memory Query Accelerator The M7 chip also includes a In-Silicon Query Engines.  These accelerate tasks that work on In-Memory Columnar Vectors. Oracle In-Memory options stores data in Column Format. The M7 Query Engine can speed up In-Memory Format Conversion, Value and Range Comparisons and Set Membership lookups. This engine can work on Compressed data - this means not only are we accelerating the query performance but also increasing the memory bandwidth for queries.  SPARC Accelerated Program  At the Hotchips conference we also introduced the SPARC Accelerated Program to provide our partners and third part developers access to all the goodness of the M7's SPARC Application Acceleration features. I have downloaded the application " Foundations: Bitmaps and Pixel Bits" from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc534995.aspx . But when I tried to open the images which are more than 1200x1600, It is very slow. How to increase the performance. Is any one worked on Image processing in WPF. • Legacy application with JDBC and JNDI REALM authentication

  Hello All, My application currently relies on JDBC realm authentication. Recent needs have forced us to think about having LDAP authentication as well. We are thinking about using Active Directory for both authentication as well as authorization (roles). As a standalone test, I was able to authenticate my application with AD. But here is the confusion I have going forward. If the user chooses LDAP authentication when he logs in, I authenticate the user with AD, get the user's roles and do I replicate(create a new) windows user in my database?. I have to have the user in the database, because many parts of the application is designed to retrieve the user from database If the users chooses local login, I still should have JDBCRealm somewhere that I should use to authenticate the user. Is it possible to have multiple realms in tomcat? (I sort of know it is possible, but havent seen much documentation around it) Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would immensely help me Thanks K

• Using WFC authentication service for web application

  I am using a WFC authentication service I set up with a web application. I have successfully set up and tested the AuthenticationService and RolesService. The web application can successfully call methods like ValidateUser and GetRolesForCurrentUser through the WFC services. I want to integrate the WFC authentication service with my web.config and site.map. Do I need to write a custom provider, or is there some way I can modify the web.config of the web application to use the WFC authentication service as its membership provider? This way I can set what roles have access to what directories based off the WFC authentication service.

• Providing or Filtering assemblies when registering areas for an ASP.NET MVC 2.0 application

  I have a large application that currently exists as a hybrid of WebForms and MVC 2.0. Startup of my application is dreadful, and the culprit is primarily because of the AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas call. More specifically, that it is using the System.Web. Compilation.BuildManager.GetReferencedAssemblies to enumerate all types in assemblies directly referenced by the application and test them to see if they derive from AreaRegistration. Unfortunately, I have a number of third-party assemblies that happen to be quite extensive, so this initial load can be pretty bad. I'd have much better results if I could tell it which assemblies to look for AreaRegistrations, or even register areas manually for the time being. I can gather up all the internals of AreaRegistration to create and invoke the registration, but I'm just curious if others have had and worked around this issue.

  Oracle Advanced Security is an optional licenced Oracle 11g Database add-on.  Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) offers two different features:  column encryption and tablespace encryption.  TDE Tablespace Encryption 11.2.0.1 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i. What is Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) ? Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) allows you to protect data at rest. TDE helps address privacy and PCI requirements by encrypting personally identifiable information (PII) such as Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. TDE is completely transparent to existing applications with no triggers, views or other application changes required. Data is transparently encrypted when written to disk and transparently decrypted after an application user has successfully authenticated and passed all authorization checks. Authorization checks include verifying the user has the necessary select and update privileges on the application table and checking Database Vault, Label Security and Virtual Private Database enforcement policies.

Now i need to develop application for Iphone and need help: 1) is there any rtmp implementation on Iphone ?? 2) If not, how could i solve this problem? Is there is any alternative to rtmp on iphone? And most important question : could it be solved without rewriting whole server part of application? (red5+ rtmp) Thanks

• Winforms application hungs when switching to another app

This started when I put the threading code. Could I have some rogue threads out there? what is the best way to zero in a threading problem? The issue can't be recreated on my machine...I know I must be missing something on how to dispose of a backgroundworker properly. Any thoughts are appreciated, Thanks, Jose

• Rogue black-box java application not responding to standard input redirect

  I have an external java application (blackbox), which requires authentication. I need to run this application in a batch setting, but it seems to be reading from standard input in some nonstandard way. That is, if I set the calling of the program to redirect STDIN to a file (... <password.txt) or pipe data to it (echo mypasword | ...), it does not recognize the input. As I run it, also, it seems to intercept Cntrl+c and Cntrl+d and Cntrl+z as legitimate password characters, so it must be doing something odd and not just reading from standard in. Any idea what this application could be doing to read in input? I need to be able to send it information programmatically, and I'm stumped for the moment.

És mindez véletlenöl pontosan a NOSZF dátumára idozítve. Együtt ünnepelt a világ! Emlékszik még valaki, mi is a NOSZF feloldása? :) Azóta az Oracle Warehouse Builder és az Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition és a BI Standard Edition One lettek a zászlóshajók az ETL-ELT és az elemzés-kimutatáskészítés területen.

  Hello I have to create a simple app, that will suit as an example of using WPF and WCF for creating HMI screens. I'm not sure what WCF is supposed to do in such application, I guess there must be an OPC server that my application connects to. Does app connect to OPC server using WCF service and does the WCF service reside inside the application or outside? Is WCF service meant to be used only as a connection to OPC server? I'm not yet quite sure which process to simulate, I need something simple. Please, any ideas are welcomed. Thank you

  I have to use a ocx in .Net application. In the toolbox, i right clicked and from com tab added the ocx. Now the ocx appeared in the toolbox and added the control to the form. Whe i execute the application got this error 'Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.WINCMP3XLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.'. Can you help me what else needs to be done. I also used the Aximp tool to convert the wrapper dll for the ocx. Now when I used this dll, i could not access the method in the dll. Please can anyone tell me the best way for using ocx in .Net application. Thanks

• How to handle application upgrades from free to paid version while preserving any data

  Here is the context. I want to have a free version and a premium version of the same application. When people buy the application, I want them to be able to "upgrade" without losing their data, i.e. the premium version should install over the free version. I want to use the same code base and just switch a setting to build the premium version. Andoid Market does not let me convert a free app to a paid app, so the trivial option is not available. I am curious if someone has tried this successfully. How does Android Market identify an application - will it think that the premium version is a different app and just install it in parallel?

• 32 bit dll importing in 64 bit .Net application

  hello i'm having a problem, i try to solve it since yesterday but no luck. i have 32 bit delphi dll which i want to import in .NET Win Application. this application has to be built on ANY CPU mode. of course, there's BadImageFormatException coming, which means that in x64 application can't be loaded x86 dll.. i googled around and find solution, it said i have to do wrapper, but it wasn't clear for me. can anybody tell how to solve this problem, is there any possible way i can import 32bit Delphi dll in program builted Any CPU or x64 mode(maybe another solution).

• Visual studio Solution for two versions of a web application

  The issue at hand is this. We have a web application with two different versions, a full application, and a light version of it. In it's most part the light version is a subset of the full version, which means that it uses the same web pages and references the same binaries with the full version. However, some of the pages of the full version should not be deployed with the light version obviously, and some binaries (libraries etc) need not be deployed with the full version. If it were a windows forms application we could attempt to approach the issue at hand with preprocessor directives, unfortunately this is not feasible I think. (please do correct me if I'm wrong with this) Anyway, what would a good approach on this? Thanks

• Custom Application Page does not recognize tagPrefix defined in custom web.config

  I have a custom application page integrated in Centeral Administration. My application pages are placed in a subfolder in Template\Admin folder. I placed my own web.config in my subfolder and added tagPrefixes in the control section. However when I open my application page ASP.NET throws the exception that the tag SharePoint:InputFormTextBox was not recognized. What am I doing wrong? Or it doesn't work this way? What can i do to achieve this?
