  We added a SharePoint BDC model project to a solution in Visual Studio 2010. Ever since, whenever the solution is built, instead of showing the Build output in the Output window, it insists on having "SharePoint Tools" selected in the "Show Output from:" drop-down, just to say "Model validation started ... Model validation completed with no errors." Short of shutting off any SharePoint projects in the build configuration, can this behavior be overridden?

  I'm setting up a database server as a separate VM in my server so that I can control resources, and make backups of just that instance. I own a server that will reside in a colo soon. Is this the best way to approach my DB regarding scalability? Are there any security concerns? Do I listen at localhost still, even though it's a separate instance? And, is there any benefit to running your DB (PostgreSQL in my case) in the same machine as your application (web based SAAS application in my case)?

  Is it possible to run JUnit tests from inside my java application? Are there test frameworks I can use (such as JUnit.jar?), or am I force to find the test files, invoke the methods and track the exceptions myself? The reason why I am asking is my application requires a lot of work to start launch (lots of dependencies and configurations, etc) and using an external testing tool (like JUnit Ant task) would require a lot of work to set up. It is easier to start the application and then inside the application run my tests. Is there an easy test framework that runs tests and output results from inside a java application or am I forced to write my own framework?

  I've written a server in Delphi 2010 that needs to launch a console application every now and again to back up a database. The console application can send log information to the console window, but it is not required. This works fine when running as an application, but when run as a service I get an access violation when launching the console application. This is the case even if I launch it hidden (SW_HIDE). Is it possible to launch a hidden console application from a Windows service? The solution needs to work on XP, Vista and Windows 7.

  Over the years, User Productivity Kit has expanded to include solutions to many project challenges. As of UPK 3.6.1, solutions are provided for pre and post application go-live learning, application testing, system documentation, presentation output, and more. New in UPK 3.6.1 are additional features that can be used effectively for application demo purposes. This can come in handy when you need to do a demo but don't want to show or can't show the live application. Maybe you're doing a presentation for a group of project stakeholders and want to focus on the business workflow implemented by the application rather than the mechanics of using it. Or possibly, you need to show the application but you're disconnected from any network preventing you from running the live application. In any of these cases, a presentation aid that represents the live application is what's needed. Previous versions of the UPK topic player would allow you to do this but would always show those UPK user interface elements that help a user learn the application. When you're presenting the narrative live, the UPK bubbles can be a distraction. UPK 3.6.1 provides some new features that allow you to control whether the bubbles display. There are two ways to hide bubbles in a topic. The first is a topic property that allows you to control bubbles across the entire topic. There are 3 settings for the Show Bubbles topic property. The default setting is Use frame settings which allows you to control whether bubbles display on a frame by frame basis. When you choose Always, the bubbles will always display regardless of the frame setting. The final choice is Never. Choosing Never will hide every bubble in your topic with one setting change. As with Always, choosing Never will ignore the frame setting. The second way to control the bubbles is at the frame level. First ensure that the topic's Show Bubbles property is set to Use frame settings. Navigate to the frame on which you want to turn off the bubble and click the Display bubble for this frame button to turn off the bubble. When you play the topic, the bubble will no longer be displayed. Depending on your needs, you might also use another longstanding UPK feature that allows you to control whether the action area displays on a frame. Just click the Action area on/off button to toggle its display. I've found the frame properties to be useful beyond creating presentation aids. When creating "See It!" only topics for more advanced users, I may hide the bubbles on some of the more straightforward frames. For example, if I have a form where one needs to fill out an address, I may display the first bubble in the sequence and explain what the subsequent steps are doing. I then hide bubbles on the remaining frames which are the more mechanical steps of entering the address. We'd like to hear your thoughts on this new UPK feature.   Hi, I have installed a web application which is configured using a network drive But i am keep getting a pop up asking for credentials looking in the event log, the network logon is set to my domain/account which looks fine however caller user name is empty (not sure if this is an issue) the application works fine when i use a local drive the application also runs fine when i set "connect as" user the application also works fine when a share on the local machine is used!! direct asses using the unc path is not a problem Please advise what i can do or should check Thanks and Regards, James

• Upgraded to new Google Admob, now cannot resubmit Google Adsense application

  I tried to apply for a google adsense account some time ago, but it was rejected due to some policy issues. Then I started using Legacy Admob account for the same email id. It was working fine. But now Google has deprecated the Legacy Admob so I upgraded to the new Google Admob. But now I want to resubmit my application for Adsense but whenever I go to the link https://www.google.com/adsense/ it takes to my homepage, where it shows older message that My account was not approved. It does not show the option to resubmit the application. Second way it shows to go to My Ads tab and then Under “Add AdSense for content", click Apply now. Complete the AdSense application form, then click Submit my application." But I cannot see Submit My Application or Add Adsense for content option in my My Ads Tab. Please can anybody tell me what should I do? Thanks.

• Java Transaction Service without the application server

  Is it possible to have a Java standalone application (no application server attached) that exposes some operations that a client can call and be the one to manage the transactions? I was thinking this application to expose JNDI resources and get a hold of a java:comp/UserTransaction from there, get also a bean from there and call methods A, B and C on it and coordinate the transaction from the client? The application I'm writing isn't complex enough so that I need a big application server around it so I'm thinking to have a standalone JTS inside it that the client could interact with from a transactions point of view. I don't have much experience with distributed transactions and don't really know how to tackle the issue. Is it even possible? Am I getting myself into something beyond what a mere mortal (programmer) can handle? How can I approach this?

• Raleigh theme on LightDM, Ubuntu desktop, Nautilus window, menus & menu-bars

  After performing an upgrade from Natty to Oneiric, I had a problem similar to the one reported in here at every system boot: Desktop forgets theme? Everything, from the LigthDM greeter to the ubuntu desktop used the ugly raleigh theme, apart from firefox, thunderbird few other applications after logging in. Unfortunately none of the solutions suggested in the topic above worked for me. The only way I could get acceptable appearance would be to switch to gnome at login and using the Adwaita theme. The lightdm greeter still uses the raleigh theme though. Unfortunately, I tried some "brute-force" methods by reinstalling (sudo apt-get install --reinstall) ubuntu-desktop, unity, unity-common, unity-greeter, gnome-session, gtk2-engines. I also tried moving .config, .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome, .gnome2 to a backup dir to reset account desktop preferences. None of the above solved the issue. On the contrary, logging-in to Ubuntu setup does not show unity and window decorations anymore. My fallback remains the Gnome logon and the Adwaita theme. This is my workstation machine I am hosting Ubuntu on, so, though possible, it is time consuming to perform a backup and format-reinstall ubuntu 11.10. Could you please let me know if I can get an alternative way of repairing my ubuntu desktop? (I believe it all started when, during the 11.04-to-11.10 upgrade, the installation of downloaded packages for oneiric broke when nautilus-dropbox failed to access the dropbox servers - I am behind a proxy but with proper proxy settings had no problems using apt-get & synaptic. However I removed dropbox and resumed partial installation on second boot.)

  I have a command-line Ruby application that uses Curses to create a GUI. This GUI is absolutely mangled by Windows' command prompt if the command prompt window is too small. The command prompt window can be resized in properties. However, I want to resize it programatically. Running this command in the command prompt (nothing to do with Ruby) will resize the command prompt window to desired variables. mode con:cols=120 lines=40 Can I do this purely in Ruby? Or, failing that (I suspect doing it purely in Ruby may be impossible) can my ruby application actually run that command and 'hit enter', and resize window it's running in?

  This was previously posted in StackOverflow, I just moved to here... I am using VS2008, MVVM, WPF, Prism to make a mutiple window CRM Application. I am using MidWinow in my MainWindow, I want Any ViewModel would able to make request to MainWindow to create/add/close MidChildWindow, ChildWindow(from WPF Toolkit), Window (the Window type). ViewModel can get the DialogResult from the ChildWindow its excutes. MainWindow have control on all opened window types. Here is my current approach: I made Dictionary of each of the windows type and stores them into MainWindow class. For 1, i.e in a CustomerInformationView, its CustomerInformationViewModel can execute EditCommand and use EventAggregator to tell MainWindow to open a new ChildWindow. CustomerInformationViewModel: CustomerEditView ceView = new CustomerEditView (); CustomerEditViewModel ceViewModel = CustomerEditViewModel (); ceView.DataContext = ceViewModel; ChildWindow cWindow = new ChildWindow(); cWindow.Content = ceView; MainWindow.EvntAggregator.GetEvent<NewWindowEvent>().Publish(new WindowEventArgs(ceViewModel.ViewModeGUID, cWindow )); cWindow.Show(); Notice that all my ViewModel will generates a Guid for help identifies the ChildWindow from MainWindow's dictionary. Since I will only be using 1 View 1 ViewModel for every Window. For 2. In CustomerInformationViewModel I can get DialogResult by OnClosing event from ChildWindow, in CustomerEditViewModel can use Guid to tell MainWindow to close the ChildWindow. Here is little question and problems: Is it good idea to use Guid here? Or should I use HashKey from ChildWindow? My MainWindows contains windows reference collections. So whenever window close, it will get notifies to remove from the collection by OnClosing event. But all the Windows itself doesn't know about its associated Guid, so when I remove it, I have to search for every KeyValuePair to compares... I still kind of feel wrong associate ViewModel's Guid for ChildWindow, it would make more sense if ChildWindow has it own ID then ViewModel associate with it... But most important, is there any better approach on this design? How can I improve this better?
