• MSDN Live 2010 &ndash; Delivered : 24 sessions (4 x 6) on Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server

  We (Mikael Nitell and me) got a whole track on the Norwegian MSDN Live tour this year.  We did these as a pair, and covered 4 cities over 4 days, 6 sessions per day, taking 8 hours to come through it.  The Islandic volcano made the travels a bit rough, but we managed 6 flights out of 8. The first one had to go by van instead, 7-8 hour drive each way together with other MSDN Live presenters – a memorable tour! Oslo was the absolute top point.  We had to change hall to a bigger one. People were crowding, and even the big hall was packed!  The presentations were mostly based on demos, but we had a few slides as well.  They have been uploaded to my SkyDrive.  Info to aliens – some of the text may be Norwegian. The sessions were as follows: Overview of news in Visual Studio and Team Foundation server 2010 Ensuring Quality with VS/TFS 2010 Releasing products with VS/TFS 2010 No More No Repro with VS/TFS 2010 Performance Testing and Parallel Programming with VS/TFS 2010 Migrating to VS/TFS 2010 Tips, tricks, news and some best practices with VS/TFS 2010   In the coming days, I will post up examples from the demos too, with explanations of how they are intended to work. These entries will also contain stuff we had to remove from the actual presentations due to the time constraints. We managed to create recordings of two of the sessions, which will be uploaded to Channel 9 by Microsoft, afaik.   I will update this blog with information about exact locations when that is done. • Glimpse: Open Source Web Development

  We’re delighted to announce that Red Gate will be backing Glimpse! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the project, Glimpse is an open source tool which does for the server what Firebug does for the client. It’s been in beta for the last year, and we’re very excited to give Glimpse the support and dedicated effort needed to take it to a v1 and beyond. Glimpse’s founders (Nik Molnar and Anthony van der Hoorn) have joined Red Gate, and they’re just as excited as we are about the opportunities that active development of Glimpse will bring. They will continue to write code, support the community and drive the project forward (as they’ve done since its inception). With full-time attention on growing Glimpse and its community, users and developers can expect the project to accelerate, with frequent releases of new functionality. Red Gate is excited about its first major involvement with open source. You may well be wondering, though, why Red Gate is doing this. Glimpse dovetails beautifully with Red Gate’s .NET tools, which makes Glimpse an ideal framework for plugging in advanced, paid-for functionality (like performance analysis) the way web developers want to see it. As a means to this end, we will contribute to the Glimpse open source project in order to broaden its adoption and delight web developers. Since bringing in .NET Reflector in 2008, we’ve learnt sharp lessons from the community about the right and wrong ways to engage with developers, not to mention the enduring value of free. Glimpse further shows what the .NET community can achieve through open source collaboration, and we’re looking forward to working with the Glimpse community to make something enduring and awesome. • Another big year for the ADF EMG at OOW12

  Oracle Open World 2012 has only just started, but in one way it's just finished!  All the ADF EMG's OOW content is over for another year! The unique highlight this year for me was the first ever ADF EMG social night held on Saturday, where I finally had the chance to meet so many ADF community members who I've known over the internet, but never met in person.  What?  You didn't get an invite?  Oh well, better luck next year ;-) Seriously our budget was limited, so in the happy-dictatorship sort of way I had to limit RSVPs to just 40 people.  Hopefully next year we can do something bigger and better for the wider community. Following directly on from the Saturday social night the ADF EMG ran a full day of sessions at the user group Sunday.  I wont go over the content again, but to say thank you very much to all our presenters and helpers, including Gert Poel, Pitier Gillis, Aino Andriessen, Simon Haslam, Ken Mizuta, Lucas Jellema and the FMW roadshow team, Ronald van Luttikhuizen, Guido Schmutz, Luc Bors, Aino Andriessen and Lonneke Dikmans. Also special thanks must go to Doug Cockroft and Bambi Price for their time and effort in organizing the ADF EMG room behind the scenes via the APOUC. To be blunt Doug and Bambi really do deserve serious thanks because they had to wear a lot of Oracle politics behind the scenes to get the rooms organized (oh, and deal with me fretting too! ;-). Finally thanks to all the members and OOW delegates for turning up and supporting the group on the day.  In the end the ADF EMG exists for you, and I hope you found it worthwhile. One announcement during the presentation was the plan to move m2e-wtp plugin into the m2e project at Eclipse. The project proposal was posted yesterday afternoon for those who are interested - http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/technology.m2e.m2e-wtp/. Jason said that m2e-wtp will not make it into the m2e Juno release but they expect the code to be transitioned over to Eclipse over the next six months. Getting the maven and wtp project models to play nicely together has been an issue for quite some time for our users. Hopefully this is a good step toward resolving those issues.

• Extend RedCloth via Redmine plugin?

  Hello, I'm new to Ruby/Redmine/Redcloth but I'm trying to achieve the following: The default way to build a link in Textile is "foo":http://bar. However, 90% of the day I use Atlassian products, which use [foo|http://bar] as link markup. To keep everything a bit uniform I'd like to implement this in Redmine via a plugin. However, it appears that you can't change the macro syntax so instead I'll have to look into extending RedCloth to accept this form of inserting links. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? • Jquery: How can I place triggers on images already cached?

This works great when viewing the page for the first time (or force reloading all content). However, when the image has already been cached, it doesn't use the preloading script and thus does not send the play trigger to jplayer. • Powershell function that creates a array by input

  I'm quite new to Powershell and working on a little project with functions. What I'm trying to do is creating a function that takes 2 arguments. The first argument ($Item1) decides the size of the array, the second argument ($Item2) decides the value of the indexes. So if I write: $addToArray 10 5 I need the function to create a array with 10 indexes and the value 5 in each of them. The second argument would also have to take "text" as a value. • Android: How to fade out search / home / menu / back buttons?

  Hallo, I'm using my Android (Archos 43) only as an extended display in an industrial application. I just need a single programm to display data received and send user inputs by bluetooth. This little programm should start directly after booting and should disable (fade out) the android-buttons (search, home, menu and back). That's my plan. Here's my problem: I know, there are some applications which can fade out these search/home/menu/back-buttons (like DeskClock or some videoplayers). But how does it work? Just using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" only disables the titlebar, not the 4 android-buttons. Thanks, Dennis

• Practical guide to programming paradigms ?

  I think I might be misunderstanding the whole thing and I am looking for some programming wisdom. When faced with a programming challenge, I feel the most important question is "which programming paradigm(s) are better suited to handle it, and how to apply them". A distant second is "which language to use". Yet it seems that most of the programming related content I stumble upon on the Internet has it exactly backwards and focuses mostly on the language choice. An object-oriented solution is fundamentaly the same, whether it's implemented in c++, Java or PHP... So where is the paradigm centered content? Where is the "practical guide to programming paradigms and implementations" and other literature helping bringing real-world and programming concepts together? Note: I already know about "Programming Paradigms for Dummies: What Every Programmer Should Know" from Peter Van Roy.

  Currently there is (afaik) one completed Clojure book available: Programming Clojure by Stuart Halloway. Two are being written and partially available at Manning: The Joy of Clojure by Fogus and Houser Clojure in Action by Amit Rathore Another one is about to be published in May: Practical Clojure (The Definitive Guide) by Luke Van der Hart Are these books more or less the same and meant as a general introduction to Clojure? Does it make sense to buy them all, or is there a risk of having three very similar books? Will there be books that go into more specialized areas of Clojure and targetted for 'intermediate' or 'advanced' Clojure programmers?
