• graphic error on console

  I have Linux on an embedded system. There is no graphic system, but I still have graphic errors. For example, if I type: ifconfig eth2 hw ether 00:0e:8c:d0:59:d2 I see: ifconfig eth hw ether 00:0e:8:2:2 If I type Enter, it accepts the command I typed, so it's just a matter of displaying. Everything is fine, when I log in via SSH. Anyone any ideas, what could be the cause or where to look at? • Driver denied access to PCI card

  Alright, I asked this on StackOverflow (here) and they suggested trying ServerFault to get help on permissions. So here's the deal. We designed a custom PCI card and wrote the driver for it. It's been working for years without problems but now we encountered one particular installation were it doesn't work. The problem is that we cannot connect to the PCI to begin communication with it. We tried replacing the card and had the same problem. We had the motherboard replaced thinking the PCI slots were bad. That didn't help either. We tried the cards in a different computer and they all worked. So it seemed to be something specific to the computer. The Windows Device Manager indicates the device is working properly and seems to have all the correct driver info. We now have this troublesome computer back at the office for testing. With the help of some extra debug info in the driver we determined that we cannot connect because access is denied. Sounds like a permissions issue to me. I should note that we are logged into the system as a local administrator. So what configuration option in Windows can prevent access to a device?

• ixgbe driver: Limit the max number of cores

  I have a Linux workstation with 48 cores and runs ixgbe driver for fiber interface. And I have to test a project name Netmap on it. NetMap is a high performance network framework for high speed interfaces, which has been ported to Linux recently. For some reasons, I must try it on the machine. So I compile it and follow the instructions to run the test problems, but it doesn't work. I check dmesg and it says: [10399.085736] 794.159015 netmap_set_ringid [486] ringid o4o1 set to all 48 HW RINGS [10399.085742] 794.282011 netmap_obj_malloc [220] netmap_if request size 816 too large I asked the author of netmap for help. He told me that I have too many cores in the machine and it should work if I tell ixgbe use less cores (2 to 4 is ok). I am not familiar to driver development and I don't know how to limit the ring numbers by passing arguments to ixgbe driver. So I check the spec from intel's website but found nothing about it. So I come here for more helps. Thank you.

• Looking for Ubuntu 10.10 driver for GeForce GT 425M GPU.

  It came with my Sony VAIO® VPCF133FX/H 16.4" Notebook. Ubuntu does suggest an NVIDIA driver for me, but when I install it, I cannot boot back in normally. I have to boot into a failsafe mode, then reset graphics setting to default, and reboot again. Right now I am stuck in 800 x 600 mode, but I would like to do better, and take advantage of my 1GB graphics memory :(. Please let me know if you have questions.

  how can i install the bluetooth driver in this laptop in windows 7. The installation process tells me that i need to activate the bluetooth device to continue, but how can i activate if till that moment the device doesn't exist. There isn't any button or switch to activate the device manually. Edited: it's the np-r430 model. I read somewhere (a users forum, not official info) that for Chile and Argentina this models doesn't have built in the bluetooth device, but the US models have it. • Downmix surround to Dolby Pro-Logic at the OS/driver level in Windows 7?

  First off, I'm talking about Dolby Pro-Logic, a really old tech for encoding 4 audio channels (L/R/C/SR) into two analog outputs, and then extracting them again. It was used in surround sound systems in the last century. I have a modern PC that can output 5.1 analog audio (Three outputs on the back carry six channels of audio). But I have a really old surround sound reciever that only has a two-channel, L/R input, which it extracts 4 channels of audio from, and outputs to 5.1 speakers. What I want is some way for the OS, Windows 7, to act as if I really had 5.1 audio channels available, so applications produce surround audio, but before outputting it out of the back of my PC, apply Dolby Pro-Logic matrix encoding so that it outputs over only two channels. These two channels would then get sent to my receiver via a RCA cable, which would decode it again and drive the surround speakers. Is anything like this possible? I'm pretty sure I could do it at an application / codec level, but I'm looking for something that I just have to set once.

  I've got a driver setup for 32 bit: An INF file and an x86 folder with two 32 bit dlls. I need to replace these 32 bit dll files with 64 bit ones. I just simply overwrite 32 bit files but no lock. How can I make 64 bit version of the driver? • How to Find Out What Version of Display Driver is Installed

  One of my favorite games, "Wolfenstein Enemy Territory", has stopped working lately. It throws a segfault during the initialization phase. I suspect that the reason is a recent update to the video card driver. The problem started after I updated Ubuntu but I do not remember if there was a driver update in the list. My question is how can I check this. How can I view the current version of the display driver installed and the date it was last updated? If I discover that this is indeed the problem, will it be possible to revert the update and stay with the previous version of the driver?

  The microphone mute button is not working on my T400s running Windows 7 RTM. The speaker mute button works (when I press it the light comes on and sounds goes off). When I click on the microphone button the light doesn't come on and the microphones don't mute. Is there a drive I am missing or something? I can't find a drive for the button on Lenovo site. • BIOS and Windows cannot detect CDROM device

  Hello! I have a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B dvdrom device and a big problem. Some days ago everything worked fine. A friend installed some software and then the drives in winxp has been marked as corrupt. I uninstalled the software, but still corrupt drives. The next step I have done was running the current software GCC-4521B101(E).exe. When I ran this software again, the drives was automatically updated, but still marked as corrupt (in the Device Manager), even if I did a reboot. And then the big mistake: once more I tried to run this software, but during the update process, the machine restarted and boom! The DVDROM device doesn't work anymore. The led doesn't blink and if I push the eject button, nothing happens. Also bios and winxp doesn't recognize the optical drive. Then I plugged an other optical drive and it worked, but my old drive seems to be dead. So, what happened and how to solve this problem? Please help. Regards!

  Today I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 x64 .iso but when trying it out in live cd the keyboard of both my laptop and a microsoft branded one didn't work. I was planning into installing Ubuntu in a partition but I couldn't even put my info in the installation process to do it. Is this a problem with the .iso or the driver? because I'm afraid that if I can actually go ahead with the installation then the keyboard won't work after that too.

• How I can fix the "Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered"?

  I'm using a GeForce GTX 580, with Windows 7 64-bit. The driver version of the GTX is 301.42. The problem happens after a few minutes, when I'm playing specifc games. It won't happen in all games - And I don't have any idea why these games doesn't work. The games that doesn't work: Battlefield 3, Civilization V, Sniper Elite V2. The games that work: Mass Effect 3, Crysis 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Skyrim, L.A. Noire. As you can see, it's not a problem of "The games that demand more stop working". I've tryed updating the driver of the graphics-card, the bios of the motherboard, even formated my computer (It was needing it) and instaled every driver in the last version possible. This problem happens since I bought my graphics-card, 6 months ago. After a few minutes, from 10 to 20, the pixels in the monitor become strange, with random colors and effects, like it was broken. Then, everything goes black, and the message appears "Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered". After that, I need to close the game and start again. I am not overclocking, and my temperature never goes higher than 70ºC.

  I recently had to reformat my entire drive and reinstall Windows 7. Something that bothers me is that when I was downloading the Intel Rapid Start driver (I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y480, and it comes standard with the Rapid Start) and tried to install it, the installer claimed that my system did not meet the requirements in order to install, when it was previously installed by the OEM. My startup times have increased from 21 seconds to log-in screen to 50 seconds. Please help...   I have a PS/2 keyboard, and a PS/2 mouse - I'm using an Ubuntu/Win7 (x86) combo. Yesterday I replaced the keyboard with a new USB one. Until a restart everything was fine, but after it, the cursor couldn't be moved. I opened the device manager, and it displayed Code 10 - This device will not start. If I place my PS/2 keyboard back, restart, then the mouse will work fine. I tried the USB keyboard, PS/2 mouse combo in Ubuntu, and it works there - so it is a Windows-only problem. I downloaded the mouse's driver (it's a Netscroll 200 Laser) - nothing changed. Please help me! Thanks!

• Rollback driver in Windows via command line

  I have a remote system in which I've updated the Nvidia graphics driver, but now RDPDD.dll, which I'm guessing stands for RDP Display Driver, will not load (found this out via Event Viewer). I can use Sysinternal's Psexec to execute commands though. I'm sure something has gone very wrong and the user of this system (a CAD engineer) won't be able to use his system normally. I've tried two remote reboots and that has not resolved the issue. So I would like to use the "Roll Back" option for the Nvidia driver in the device manager. Is there a command-line way of doing this?
