    This is a generic way to select data from a table and show the results in an HTML table using JSP taglibs. What is the generic way to do this in Grails?   • Add device driver to Windows CE 6.0 through Platform Builder

    I'm trying to add a device driver to a Windows CE 6.0 image that I'm creating through Platform Builder. The driver in question, for the VIA 6656 chipset (used in many USB Wi-Fi adapters/dongles), is available in the manufacturer's website and consists of several files: .PDB, .REG, .BIB, .DLL, .MAP and .REL. I understand that the REG file must be imported in my OSDesign.reg, the BIB file to my OSDesign.bib and the DLL must be placed in the /Windows folder of my image. What I don't understand is what to do with the remaining files (PDB, MAP and REL). Could anyone assist me in this matter? Thank you in advance!

    I need to create a generic type, but I do not know the type at compile time. I would like to do this: Type t = typeof(whatever); var list = new List<t> this won't compile, because t is not a valid type. But it does know all about a valid type. Is there a way to dynamically create the generic list from a System.Type like this? I may need reflection, and that's ok, I am just a bit lost here.

    I have this type that contains two overloads of a generic method. I like to retrieve one of the overloads (with the Func<T> parameter) using reflection. The problem however is that I can't find the correct parameter type to supply the Type.GetMethod(string, Type[]) method with.   • calling database driver in java app [basically a swing app]

    I have made a java application that allows a user to choose from certain standards and then allows him to customize those standards according to his needs. Now, the customization [via a swing application] that has been made needs to be persistent. For this we use a database [mysql/access] and hook it to the application so that with each customization made, a table [if non-existent] is created [thus making it runtime and we can not pre-determine the table names or the keys of table etc] and an appropriate entry in the table is made. I have written the driver for this connection. How do I call it in the java application and what approach should I take? I would much appreciate that if somebody can refer me some example that not only shows a sample connection being made via driver but its appropriate calls to the database as well so that i can use it as a guide.

    I have an interface like so: public interface MyInterface<E extends Something1> { public void meth1(MyClass1<E> x); } and I have a subclass whose superclass implements the above interface: public class MyClass2<E extends Something1> extends Superclass{ public MyClass2(){ } public void meth1(MyClass1 x) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } } superclass: public abstract class Superclass<E extends Something1> implements MyInterface{ MyClass1<E> x; protected E y; public Superclass(){ } } the problem is that the parameter for meth1() is supposed to be generic. If I do MyClass1 it doesn't like it and the only way I can get it to compile is by leaving out generic parameters- which feels wrong. What's going wrong?

This question follows this: handling to onchange event of AutoCompleteTextField in wicket I'm trying to use the AutoCompleteTextField with a custom class as the generic type, and to add an AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior. What I mean is I want to have a AutoCompleteTextField<SomeClass> myAutoComplete = ...; and after that add a AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior: myAutoComplete.add(new AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior("onchange") { @Override protected void onUpdate(AjaxRequestTarget target) { System.out.println( "Value: "+getValue() ); } }); The problem is that for some reason, adding that behavior makes the form try to set the model object with a String (even though the AutoCompleteTextField has a generic type of SomeClass), causing a ClassCastException when the onchange event fires. Is there a way to use AutoCompleteTextField without it being AutoCompleteTextField<String>? I couldn't find any example.     I am trying to use the model ListModel as a generic list model. I would like to enter on the page @Html.DisplayForModel() However the MVC is not correctly finding the templated file "ListModel.cshtml". It must work differently for generic models. What should I name the templated file in order for it to correctly be located? public class ListModel<T> { public IEnumerable<T> Models {get;set;} public string NextPage {get;set;} } I would expect it to look for "Shared/DisplayTemplates/ListModel.ascx" but it doesn't. Does anyone know?

    I'm trying to store a list of generic objects in a generic list, but I'm having difficulty declaring it. My object looks like: public class Field<T> { public string Name { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public T Value { get; set; } /* ... */ } I'd like to create a list of these. My problem is that each object in the list can have a separate type, so that the populated list could contain something like this: { Field<DateTime>, Field<int>, Field<double>, Field<DateTime> } So how do I declare that? List<Field<?>> (I'd like to stay as typesafe as possible, so I don't want to use an ArrayList).

    Simple question, but tricky answer I guess. Does using Generic Interfaces hurts performance? Example: public interface Stuff<T> { void hello(T var); } vs public interface Stuff { void hello(Integer var); <---- Integer used just as an example } My first thought is that it doesn't. Generics are just part of the language and the compiler will optimize it as though there were no generics (at least in this particular case of generic interfaces). Is this correct?

    Hi. I have a process where one of the things to do is to capture the output from a print into a file for further processing. For this I have configured a "FILE:" printer port which works very nicely but asks everytime for the file name to use. Unfortunately "FILE" is not a very descriptive word when trying to use a search engine :( Is there a small driver somewhere which does exactly the same as the FILE: driver, but can automatically generate a filename (perhaps based on a pattern) and just print to that?

  • LightDM will not start after stopping it

    I am running Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot", and in trying to install the nvidia CUDA developer drivers I switched to a virtual terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F5) and stopped lightdm (installation required that no X server instance be running) through sudo service lightdm stop. Re-starting lightdm with sudo service lightdm start did not work: A couple of * Starting [...] lines where displayed, but the process hanged. (I do not remember at which point, but I think it was * Starting System V runlevel compatibility. I manually rebooted my laptop, and ever since booting seems to hang, usually around the * Starting anac(h)ronistic cron [OK] log line (not consistently at that point, though). From that point on, I seem to be able to interact with my system only through a tty session (Ctrl-Alt-F1). I've tried purging and reinstalling both lightdm and gdm, as well as selecting both as the default display managers (through sudo dpkg-reconfigure [lightdm / gdm] or by manually editing /etc/X11/default-display-manager) through both apt-get and aptitude (that shouldn't make a difference anyway) after updating the packages, but the problem persists. Some of the responses I'm getting are the following: After running sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm (but not ... gdm) I get the following message: dpkg-maintscript-helper:warning: environment variable DPKG_MATINSCRIPT_NAME missing dpkg-maintscript-helper:warning: environment variable DPKG_MATINSCRIPT_PACKAGE missing After trying sudo service lightdm start or sudo start lightdm I get to see the boot loading screen again but nothing changes. If I go back to the tty shell I see lightdm start/running, process <num> but ps -e | grep lightdm gives no output. After trying sudo service gdm start or sudo starg gdm I get the gdm start/running, process <num> message, and gdm-binary is supposedly an active process, but all that happens is that the screen blinks a couple of times and nothing else. Other candidate solutions that I'd found on the web included running startx but when I try that I get an error output [...] Fatal server error: no screens found [...]. Moreover, I made sure that lightdm-gtk-greeter is installed but that did not help either. Please excuse my not including complete outputs/logs; I am writing this post from another computer and it's hard to manually copy the complete logs. Also, I've seen several posts that had to do with similar problems, but either there was no fix, or the one suggested did not work for me. In closing: Please help! I very much hope to avoid re-installing Ubuntu from scratch! :) Alex @mosi I did not manage to fix the NVIDIA kernel driver as per your instructions.   • Disk Drive not working

    The CD/DVD drive on my sisters' (I'm helping her shift from Win. XP (now officially deprecated by Microsoft) to Ubuntu) system. Now, it may end up being a failed attempt, all together (Almost the whole last year (when she's been on XP) the disk drive hasn't (not even powering on) been working.), I just want to make sure I've explored every remote possibility. Because I figure, "Huh, now that I've got Ubuntu running, instead of XP, that (just) might make a difference.". I have tried using the sudo lshw command in the terminal, to (seemingly) no avil, but, who knows, you might be able to make something out of it.
