  I've been going over this question and I can't for the life of me figure out why the answer is what it is. How many arguments are passed to the command by the shell on this command line:<pig pig -x " " -z -r" " >pig pig pig a. 8 b. 6 c. 5 d. 7 e. 9 The first symbol is supposed to be the symbol for redirected input but the site isn't letting me use it. [Fixed.] I looked at this question and said ok...arguments...not options so 2nd pig, then " ", then -r" ", 4th pig and 5th pig...-z and -x are options, so I count 5. The answer is b. 6. Where is the 6th argument that's being passed on?

• Good fractal visualizer

  Each time it's the same thing, I find one, then I forget the name of it the next time I want to "dive" into such things. I'm looking for a good fractal "visualizer". The kind in which you just select a well-known fractal model (or variations on it), and in which you can then "dive" into, just zooming in or out smoothly, for the cheer pleasure of losing yourself in it. I'm looking for an executable, preferably for Windows, but any OS accepted. Keep to one program per answer (and one answer per program), as this is community wiki.

• Slow IE8 Start-up due to LDAP DNS queries

  Recently (in the last few days), my installation of IE8 has been taking 15 to 20 seconds to load my home page. Specifically, the sequence of events (as reported by WireShark) is:- Browser issues a DNS A query to resolve the home page server's IP address. Browser then spends the next 15-20 seconds broadcasting DNS SRV _LDAP._TCP queries, (roughly on a 2 second tick) to which it receives no answer (we have no LDAP servers). Browser re-issues the DNS A query and resolves the server's IP address again. Finally, the browser issues an HTTP GET for the home page. Does anyone know why this is happening? • Can't find newer DLINK Router DIR-400 firmware

  If you're here, it means you also have a Dlink 400 router. I asked DLINK but they didn't answer my question. I asked DLINK support again, but this time no answer (2 weeks later). In DLINK FTP site there is no firmware for DIR-400. Past year, Googling around Russia, I found a FIRMWARE_DIR400_v1.02B03.bin. But I am trying to figure out if is there any update, a 1.03 version or superior. Can anyone tell me why DLINK doesn't show this firmware update on their site, and if this DIR-450 is compatible with mine?

• Assembling Word Doc using Data from Excel- MS Office 2010

  I have a questionnaire that users complete. It is in Excel. After users complete the questionnaire I would like to be able to generate a Word document that contains their answers. For example "The answer to your question was [answer from Excel Questionnaire cell A49 ]" I have seen that this is possible with Sharepoint. However, I don't have Sharepoint. I am working on MS Office 2010. I also have visual Studio Express 2010. What is the best way to achieve the above, pretty please? Thanks.

(Not spam) I really like Google Apps but they have sending limits 2000 sending per day, that is not suit for my case becuz I cannot have sending limits. • Run Flyff without elevating user to Admin or requiring Admin Password

  Bottom Line: I need to set up one game on my little sister's laptop to run without requiring an admin password/account. Its the only game that seems to insist on it... so far. Detailed Version: I set up my 14-year-old sister as a regular user on her Windows 7 Home Premium laptop, and almost everything has been fine - until she found a new game (Flyff) that doesn't seem to want to run without an Admin Password (or being logged in as an Admin). For what should be obvious reasons, I'm not going to make her an Admin. or give her the Admin password (which she swears she'll only use to run this game... anyone else buying that? Bueller?) Also, the parents aren't admins on her laptop (they are on their own, but that's another discussion for another day) and I'm not going to set them up as one as I know from past experience that the 3rd time my sister asks them to put in their password, they'll just tell her what it is - at which point I might as well as have just set her up as an admin from the outset. This is a Win7 Home Premium (64-bit, but I doubt that makes a difference) laptop, so using GPEdit is out. I also tried an answer provided in a related (but less specific) question. The app has read/write permissions for its folder in Program Files (x86), yet that doesn't seem to make a difference. I have not yet dug through the registry as mentioned in another answer to the aforementioned question. Just to be thorough, I have checked the "Run as Admin" option on the shortcut's properties to no avail. Am I missing something? Addendum 2010-11-11: Re-Checked permissions as per Joel's answer, and it didn't make a difference. Followed Jane T's suggestion (and Aeo's second) and created a "Games" folder outside Program Files, installing the game there - and making sure regular users had all the permissions they would need. No joy. After the latter of the above two changes, it occurred to me that it may be a UAC issue, so for kicks I turned off UAC - still the damn message. Last item noted: could it be a result of the publisher not being specified/verified? I've been taking a closer look at the error message and it occurred to me that the missing/unverified publisher info could have been the problem all along... Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that's the case, that means there's nothing I can do short of giving her some sort of Admin privileges (i.e. elevating her account, or giving her the password to a separate Admin account) or giving Mom an Admin account.

• Sync Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Calendar with Microsoft Exchange

  At my work we only use Microsoft Exchange. As I hate Outlook and much prefer Google's services, I'd like to be able to sync my email, calendar, and contacts to a Gmail account. It looks like Google shut down their Google Sync service for Gmail accounts earlier this year: http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2716936. They are recommending IMAP, CalDAV, and CardDAV. I'm having trouble even setting up IMAP to work with Exchange. Is this the best way to go or is there a better solution?

• Can't ping some IP addresses in the same subnet (LAN) Windows 2011 Server

  Hi I’m running in Windows Small Server 2011 server standard (192.168.1.108), it’s my dhcp and dns server too, but suddenly all other users can’t get internet. My gateway is 192.168.1.1. After a lots of tested I can saw that my server can’t get into the router (192.168.1.1), and also into some others computers, but some other computers answer the ping command. In fact the same computer with the IP 192.168.1.9 didn't answer, but with the IP 192.168.1.63, it response! I have no routers, firewall, vlans or anything that disallow the traffic between computers, in fact when I changed the server IP address (192.168.1.109), I be able to ping the other computers and gateway, but if a back to the 192.168.1.108 the trouble comeback. I hope you can help me with this issue Ricardo

• Batch OCR for many PDF files (not already OCRed) ?

  Hello, I use Google Desktop Search (I am on Vista) and not all my PDF files are recognized in my archive folder. It is normal as "PDF files that contain scanned images" are not indexed (http://desktop.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=90651) So I would like to OCR many of my PDF files that are not already OCRed. My goal : I give the program a folder and it search alone in the subfolders the PDF files that need to be converted into PDF-OCRed files. Note: In the past, if a PDF file was password protected, I removed the password with another batch (paying) tool: verypdf.com "pwdremover" Any (not too much expensive) idea ? I already tried : Finereader 6 pro on xp at the time, but there was no batch processor included... Paperfile paperfile.net which uses Tesseract code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/. But the OCR is only PDF to text, not PDF to PDF! There is also another project code.google.com/p/ocropus Thanks in advance ;)

• OSX Time Machine: deletion of backup folders

  I saw this question and was hoping that someone could expand upon the chosen answer (which I understood): Can you sudo mv Time Machine backup files as sudo from the trash to their original locations? I have tried doing this as root to no avail (operation not permitted). If not, can you successfully rm them via the trash via the terminal, faster than what the endless 'preparing to empty the trash' dialog suggests, and If you get the files back out of the trash can you tell if they are intact via disk utility (and how) Can you force indexing on a Time Machine drive in the same way that you would a normal drive to rebuild the TM index? I realize that a single answer could clarify all of the above, but I wanted to include details to be clear on what I am asking. Thanks for any help.

• OSX Server 3, Mac clients binding to OD and Profile Manager failing

  I've made a setup containing a Mac Mini with OSX Server 3 (Mavericks 10.9.2) using Open Directory and Profile Manager (Mail, etc all set up and working). Now the thing is, internally on the local network, everything works great. Clients can bind to the OD and the users are able to login. I can install trust and settings profiles (either custom or group profiles) and all services in the profiles mentioned are being configured correctly. I can log in and out, hump around and do it a 100 times on different macs with different users, it works. My goal is to make this service publicly. The domain is with a FQDN which I own, for simplicity let's say server.domain.com. Now the only way for me to bind the clients to the OD is using LDAP mapping RCF2307 (without SSL) and a DN suffix of dc=server,dc=domain,dc=com using the Directory Utility. The options from server, or open directory will throw several errors like Connection failed to node '/LDAPv3/server.domain.com (2100). First of all I don't really understand the problem why clients can't bind to the OD like it does locally, with and without SSL (all ports are open, literally all ports are open, not just 389,636 and 1640, wasn't sure if I was missing any). When the clients are using LDAP mapping RFC2307 to bind (without SSL only), clients are able to authenticate, login and even load the Trust profile. But every Settings profile will fail with a Debug Message: Unable to find GUID in user record OD or fail to install saying missing user identification. Is there any way to get this to work without RFC2307? Because there is quite some stuff missing when using RFC2307 and not pull the mapping from the server or use open directory. Is this setup even possible? Or should I use VPN to authenticate with the OD? The network setup is a Modem/Router (DHCP off) with WAN NATted to an Airport Extreme (Using DHCP+NAT). The AE does notify with a double NAT message but I haven't had any problems with it on any other service. So WAN - 192.168.2.220 (static), AE - 10.0.1.* (dhcp) Output of DIG from the outside using dig server.domain.com ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;server.domain.com. (used for email send in relay) server.domain.com. 10800 IN NS server.domain.com. ;; SERVER 10.0.1.11#53(10.0.1.11) Are there any things I should check? Only have OSX. -- double NAT issue, plugged in the server directly on the Modem/Router with a static IP and issue remains. Primary address = 10.0.1.11 Current HostName = server.domain.com DNS HostName = server.domain.com For now, I've made a workaround by using an admin account that forces a permanent VPN connection on boot. That means before it comes to the login, a connection is already made or underway. I will continue this post when I have more time, also locating all the necessary .log files of each application involved.   I have router based on OpenWRT which has dnsmasq 2.59. Inside my local area network I have a NS server bind. This server has internal and external views for a couple of my domains. My router forwards port 53 TCP and UDP from outside IP (router WAN) to this server. For the external clients everything works fine. In order to organize the internal view, I decided to add the exception to /etc/dnsmasq.conf server=/mydomain1.com/192.168.1.1 server=/mydomain2.com/192.168.1.1 server=/mydomain3.com/192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1 - IP address of the NS server) According to dnsmasq manstrong text: More specific domains take precendence over less specific domains, so: --server=/google.com/1.2.3.4 --server=/www.google.com/2.3.4.5 will send queries for *.google.com to 1.2.3.4, except *www.google.com, which will go to 2.3.4.5 this domain name with all the sub-domains is supposed to be forward to my NS server. • Training Exchange junk filter via OS X Mail.app

  My company uses Exchange 2007 for our mail server (via 3rd party hosted service), I use OS X Mail.app on my MacBook Pro. When viewing my junk folder in the webmail interface, there's a "Not Junk" button which will move the email out of the Junk folder. I can mimic the basic functionality in Mail.app by dragging the message from the junk folder to another folder. But... does this train the server? Specific questions: Does pressing the "Not Junk" button in the webmail interface (or Outlook) do anything more on the server side? Does Exchange used any sort of statistical spam filtering (e.g. bayesian filtering) based on this action? If the answer to #1 is yes, does moving the folder out of the junk folder in Mail.app trigger the statistical learning? If the answer to #2 is no, is there a different way to trigger the learning?

• EC2 instance store cloning or to ebs via guy management console

  I have found similar questions here but the answer are either outdated or are from the command line. The case is this. I have an EC2 instance using instance store (this was the only AMI available for Debian 6 in Ireland). Now through the AWS GUI I can do a snapshot of the instance volume and/or even create a volume. But an image made from the snapshot doesn't boot. What is the best solution to either clone an EC2 instance that uses instance store OR from the created snapshot of the instance store to launch a new EBS instance (identical clone) FROM the gui aws management console and not command line ? Before turning this down consider that there is not similar question on how to do it via the aws management console. hint can't be done is not an appropriate answer. As you can create a snapshot of the instance store backed instance and/or a volume and create an AMI from that snapshot.

• Input devices stopped working during system upgrade

  Hi, I was upgrading Ubuntu on my server (but Ubuntu is in desktop version) when mouse and keyboard stopped working :( So the screen went black (screensaver), and now I can't do anything. I don't know what stage of upgrade it stopped working, probably now it waits for me to answer some question. Keyboard and mouse were connected by KVM, connecting them directly doesn't help. Both are on USB. What I can do, is connecting to the machine by ssh. Can I somehow see and answer questions of update system and somehow finalize process of upgrade?

  I have a program that can communicate over IPv4 (TCP and UDP) and over IPv6 (TCP and UDP). I want to block the program from being able to use IPv4. I tried the Windows Firewall: Except it blocks IP sub-protocols (e.g. TCP, UDP, encapsulated IPv6, GRE), rather than blocking IPv4 itself. In other words, I need to block IPv4: IPv4/TCP IPv4/UDP IPv4/ICMPv4 IPv4/GRE IPv4/L2TP while allowing IPv6: IPv6/TCP IPv6/UDP IPv6/ICMPv6 IPv6/GRE IPv6/L2TP Can I block a program from using IPv4? Note: If it cannot be done, then don't be afraid to add that as an answer. There's no shame in giving the correct answer to a question.

• Installing software after .wim image

  I have been looking all day into how to install software to a .wim image. I have a .wim image of a laptop that will be deplyed to 20 more. The image is pretty much good to go except I need to add a couple more drivers and a couple more applications. Is there a way to do this in the answer file? Do I have to deploy the image, install the drivers/application, sysprep, and recapture the image? Any information relating to this will be greatly appreciated. Leon ps I have only been using answer files and imagex. Would like to stick with this for the time being. I plan on using WDT and WDS when I have some time to learn about it.

• CPU load, USB connection vs. NIC

  In general, and understanding the answer may vary by manufacturer and model (and driver, and...), in consumer-grade workstations with integrated NICs, does the NIC rely on the CPU for a lot of help (as is typically the case with a USB controller, for instance), or is it fairly intelligent and capable on its own (like, say, the typical Firewire controller)? Or is the question too general to answer? (If it matters, you can assume Linux.) Background: I'm looking at connecting a device (digital television capture) that will be delivering ~20-50 Mbit/sec of data to a somewhat under-powered workstation. I can get a USB 2 High-speed device, or a network-attached device, and am interested in avoiding impacting the CPU where possible. Obviously, if it's a 100Mbit NIC, that's roughly half its theoretical inbound bandwidth, whereas it's only roughly a tenth of the 480 Mbit/second the USB 2 "High Speed" interface. But if the latter requires a lot of CPU support and the former doesn't...
