  • Where should my "filtering" logic reside with Linq-2-SQL and ASP.NET-MVC in View or Controller?

    I have a main Table, with several "child" tables. TableA and TableAChild1 and TableAChild2. I have a view which shows the information in TableA, and then has two columns of all items in TableAChild1 and TableAChild2 respectivly, they are rendered with Partial views. Both child tables have a bit field for VisibleToAll, and depending on user role, I'd like to either display all related rows, or related rows where VisibleToAll = true. This code, feels like it should be in the controller, but I'm not sure how it would look, because as it stands, the controller (limmited version) looks like this: return View("TableADetailView", repos.GetTableA(id)); Would something like this be even work, and would it be bad what if my DataContext gets submitted, would that delete all the rows that have VisibleToAll == false? var tblA = repos.GetTableA(id); tblA.TableAChild1 = tblA.TableAChild1.Where(tmp => tmp.VisibleToAll == true); tblA.TableAChild2 = tblA.TableAChild2.Where(tmp => tmp.VisibleToAll == true); return View("TableADetailView", tblA); It would also be simple to add that logic to the RendarPartial call from the main view: <% Html.RenderPartial("TableAChild1", Model.TableAChild1.Where(tmp => tmp.VisibleToAll == true); %>

    One of our exchange servers crashed, and I am trying to recover the mailboxes. We had 1 exchange 2003 server named "apex" and 1 exchange 2010 server named "2008Enterprise. the exchange 2010 server named "2008Enterprise" crashed. I created a new exchange 2010 server named "Providence". I ran the command on Providence: New-MailboxDatabase -Recovery -Name JBCMail -Server Providence -EdbFilePath "c:\data\Exchange\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0579285147\Mailbox Database 0579285147.edb" -LogFolderPath "c:\data\Exchange\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0579285147" this command executed and finished without error I then ran the command: eseutil /p E00 this command was executed from the below directory: c:\data\Exchange\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0579285147 I then mounted the JBCMail with the mount command note: I do not have my full typed command. Inside my Exchange Management Console (EMC) I can view the new mailbox database named JBCMail. The JBCMail database is show as mounted on the exchange server named Providence. I can see the crashed Exchange server named 2008Exchange. In the EMC the crashed exchange server states the Copy Status under ServerConfiguration-Mailbox is ServiceDown. From here I need to recover three mailboxes The mail boxes are on the apex server. How do I move the mailboxs from apex to Providence? How do I restore the mailboxes from JBCmail mounted database to the user's mailbox? I do not fully understand how to use the Restore-Mailbox command because when I use this command it tries to restore the mailbox to the dead apex server.     I am stuck on how to create tags for each post on my site. I am not sure how to add the tags into database. Currently... The postingtags shows the relation between posting and tags. When users type a posting, I insert the data into the "posting" table. It automatically inserts the posting_id for each post(posting_id is a primary key). $title = mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, trim($_POST['title'])); $query4 = "INSERT INTO posting (title) VALUES ('$title')"; mysqli_query($dbc, $query4); HOWEVER, how do I insert the tags for each post? When users are filling out the form, there is a checkbox area for all the tags available and they check off whatever tags they want. (I am not doing where users type in the tags they want just yet) This shows each tag with a checkbox.   • How to Deal with an out of touch "Project manager"

    This "manager" is 70+ yrs old and a math genius. We were tasked with creating a web application. He loves SQL and stored procedures. He first created this in MS access. For the web app I had to take his DB migrate to SQL server. His first thought was to have a master stored procedure with a WAITFOR Handling requests from users. I eventually talked him out of that and use asp.net mvc. Then eventually use the asp.net membership. Now the web app is a mostly handles requests from the pages that is passed to stored procedures. It is all stored procedure driven. The business logic as well. Now we are having an one open DB connection per user logged in plus 1. I use linq to sql to check 2 tables and return the values thats it period. So 25 users is a load. He complains why my code is bad cause his test driver stored procedure simulates over 100 users with no issue. What are the best arguments for not having the business logic not all in stored procedures?? How should I deal with this?? I am giving an abbreviated story of course. He is a genius part owner of the company all the other owners trust him because he is a genius. and quoting -"He gets things done. old school".

    In sample code, I have seen this: typedef enum Ename { Bob, Mary, John} EmployeeName; and this: typedef enum {Bob, Mary, John} EmployeeName; and this: typedef enum {Bob, Mary, John}; but what compiled successfully for me was this: enum {Bob, Mary, John}; I put that line in a .h file above the @interface line, and then when I #import that .h file into a different class's .m file, methods there can see the enum. So, when are the other variants needed? If I could name the enum something like EmployeeNames, and then, when I type "EmployeeNames" followed by a ".", it would be nice if a list pops up showing what the enum choices are.

  • 2 questions. IDO mode not caching properly / forcing buffers to named windows.

    1 My ido mode does not properly cache filenames / folders. It will list files inside a folder, but from a while ago without any of the newer files showing. Any suggestions ? 2 In jde, when I have multiple windows open, compiling on one window will create a corresponding "* name of the class *" that will open on the next window in order. This is fine if I only have one window open but can I get some help writing a function that I could use to : Name a window Force all buffers of JDE compile server to only ever open in that window if it exists Force all run windows from jde in the form of * name of the class * to open in the same window if it exists. Jde automatically names the buffer " * name of the class * ", I will probably dig around the codes to find an easy fix for that... so if the code could just force all windows using a regexp containing * jde run - filename * or something along the lines would also work. Thanks for your help, first post here as well. I really would like just some ideas on what may be going wrong with 1, 2 if anyone is feeling kind.

    Greetings, I have a form with a variable number of inputs, a simplified version of which looks like this: <form> <label for="same">all the same as first?</label> <input id="same" name="same" type="checkbox" /> <input type="text" id="foo[1]" name="foo[1]" value="" /> <input type="text" id="foo[2]" name="foo[2]" value="" /> <input type="text" id="foo[3]" name="foo[3]" value="" /> <input type="text" id="foo[4]" name="foo[4]" value="" /> <input type="text" id="foo[5]" name="foo[5]" value="" /> </form> The idea is to tick the #same checkbox and have jQuery copy the value from #foo[1] into #foo[2], #foo[3], etc. They also need to clear if #same is unchecked. There can be any number of #foo inputs, based upon input from a previous stage of the form, and this bit is giving me trouble. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't get any variation on $('#dest').val($('#source').val()); to work. Help!

    Hi,I want to run a windbg script that will accomplish the following: I want to track certain registers the moment an API is hit, without stopping due to timing issues. So , the moment the API is called, I want the script to open a logfile, echo the fact that the api is hit with the details of the parameters, and let it run till it hits the conditional brkpoint I've put at the API end, which simply closes the open logfile. Now , the problem is, I want to do this multiple times, w/o the previous logfile getting overwritten. Ideally, if there is some command which lets me specify that the name of the logfile (.logfile file) by the timestamp of that moment, my problem is solved. Can anyone help?

The script itself works fine (it copies the contents of the cards), but the automounting and execution of the script is where I'm having issues. What I'm really after is a solution that automounts each of the cards as they are inputted into the reader; and executes a script for them (this will involve copying their contents to another directory). Going mount /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1d.7-usb-0\:4.4\:1.0-scsi-0\:0\:0\:0-part1 Works and places the card under /media/usbdisk/, however: mount /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1d.7-usb-0\:4.4\:1.0-scsi-0\:0\:0\:0-part1 slot1/ doesn't work, and returns "mount: can't get address for /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000" Any ideas and solutions would be great, I've seen the knowledge of a lot of the guys on here before so I'm hopeful someone can help me out.   • find window text and save txt to file named that wont work.

  • mercurial fails with a file named ---.config - any way around this?

    We are just beginning to learn and evaluate Mercurial, due to an increasing number of nightmare merges, and various other problems we've had with SVN lately. A client wants us to pull down a live copy of their site, do some SEO work on it, and push it back to them. They have no source control at all. I figure this is a great project to work on with Mercurial. Instead of putting it into our SVN and exporting when we are done, we'll use Mercurial... But right away it seems I have some problem :) They have a file called "---.config" (without quotes) which seems to cause our Mercurial to barf. It just can't commit that file. I've created the repo and committed everything else, but I just can't get this one file committed. We are running on Windows 2008 x64 with TortoiseHG 1.0. I suppose I could ignore the file since it is unlikely we'll need to work with it, but still - I'd like to learn how to use Mercurial a bit better. Is there a way around this?

It's wisest to always load resources via the classpath, never via the file system, even in unit tests. Therefore, resources must always have unique file names, or collisions will occur. Are there flaws in my assumptions or my conclusion?

    Hey, I'm just learning ruby on rails and I've been stumped on this for awhile now. Here's my url request: http://192.168.2.20:8080/Location/new/123.123,-123.123/ Here's my routes.rb: map.connect '/Location/new/:coords/', :controller => 'Location', :action => 'new', :coords => /\d+.\d+,-\d+.\d+/ map.connect '/Location/list/', :controller => 'Location', :action => 'list' map.connect '/Location/create/', :controller => 'Location', :action => 'create' Here's my location_controller.rb def new @coords = Location.new(params[:coords]) end Here's the error message it gives me: NoMethodError in LocationController#new undefined method `stringify_keys!' for "123.123,-123.123":String

  • Create a variable which is named depending on an ID number?

    Is there any way to create a variable, and add an ID to the end of the actual variable name? I have a variable called 'gauge', used to create a new Gauge object: var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); I want to add an ID to the variable, so something like: var gauge+id = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); It's because I'm creating a number of these objects, and have a specific ID already for each one, which I want to attach to the gauge object if possible? All my code for this function is below, if it gives you a better idea of what i need to do: function go(id, votes) { var val = $('#votes_'+id).text(); var target = document.getElementById('foo_'+id); // your canvas element var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); // create sexy gauge! gauge.maxValue = 100; // set max gauge value gauge.animationSpeed = 20; // set animation speed (32 is default value) var a=votes+0.5; gauge.set(val); // set actual value } My main problem arises on the last line. It says gauge.set(val), and it only sets the last object, ignoring all the other ones...
