  • XP User account cannot write to USB

    Is there a local security policy setting or somesuch to allow limited user accounts to modify the contents of USB drives? Currently I get an "Access denied" error, further saying "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." The Administrator account has no such obstacles. Update: The problem is at least solvable by altering NTFS permissions (granting Full Control to Users), and therefore I'm losing hope that there is a more global solution.

  • Mercurial Scenario

    Hi all, I have a scenario in mercurial, and i cant finad anything that would tell me how to solve it. Basically, i have a mercurial repository with numerous branches for stable, development, experimental features etc.... However, ive found a bug in a set of core application files that are common to each branch. Is there a way to modify these files, and then push the changes to the common files to all the other branches, without sending any other changes? any help would be appreciated.

  • Where is the xorg.conf file in Karmic Koala (Ubuntu 9.10) ?

    I am trying to change this xorg.conf file that I used to modify under Ubuntu 9.04, so it can have the higher resolutions of my monitor. Under 9.04, the monitor was unknown, and I had to key in all resolutions in the file, and although it is found under 9.10, 9.10 does not have the highest resolution that My monitor can sustain. How can I change such setting ? Is xorg.conf moved, or replaced ? Merci :-) JF

I mean, different packages use total different naming specification. Here are the major questions: Why there are ubuntu in them, and there are not? what all the special -~+ mean? alpha and build, dfsg, what are they? Can I just use them casually? vim and other packages have 2:, what does that mean? How version comparison works, since they can be so different? Can anyone please explain this to me?     Hi guys, Is there a quick way to give the local administrator full rights to all folders on the C drive? I am having really hard time with that, I try to give it full rights to some folders (user profiles) but I can't even modify the NTFS permissions in some cases, I get "permission denied" Is there some soft of tutorial or script that will just give the administrator full rights on all folders in the C driver?     Has anyone written a compatibility wrapper for svlogd to function as a drop-in replacement for multilog? I'm a fan of UNIX process supervision in the style of daemontools and lately of runit. While runit offers a compatibility mode for many of the daemontools utilities, there is AFAIK no such offering for svlogd. I've got a few systems I'd like to switch over to runit, but I'd rather not modify the .../log/run scripts of every supervised process on those machines. Thanks.

    Hi, I'm looking for a shared library that is to be loaded using LD_PRELOAD that would modify the view of the filesystem to the client program. Ideally, I'd like to choose the filesystem root (or use / as root) and to overlay the filesystem by renaming filenames. For example, I might want to tell my program to look for /usr/lib/* in /usr/lib32/* instead. Do you know of such a program ? Thanks.

  • Interface builder hangs.

    I was running IB without any problems when it hanged when I was trying to modify the properties of a tableview. I couldn't get it to forcequit as my whole OS hanged and I had to do a hard reboot. Since then I couldn't get it to run at all, everytime I start it, it just hangs and gives me the option to ForceQuit. I've reinstalled Xcode+IB, but it's still the same. Help? Thanks, Teja

I'm not finding anything explicitly saying so, but there are lots of recommendations to download assorted random software to do it. Trying to use the win (super) key as a modifier, but as soon as I press the win key the keyboard shortcut UI just assumes I wanted to use just that key. I figure the easiest thing would be to modify the settings file itself, where I should be able to put in whatever I want. But I can't figure out where that's stored. Does anyone know?

I've unchecked the appropriate box, but I'd like to remove the application from the list: I've got a couple of applications under Location Services, too (including one Wifi stumbler application that's no longer installed).
