• Replacement for Azure SDK Powershell commandlets for deployments

  Hi, We've run into an issue with the New-Deployment Azure Powershell commandlet timing out; we've put in a bug report with MS. While they gave us an explanation for it (the path and timeout threshold used to upload through commandlets is different then what's used by the web portal); they don't have a fix for us. We need to get this running so we can automate our build deployments, so we're looking into developing a custom commandlet to replace New-Deployment using the Azure SDK; hoping this path will not have the timeout issues the commandlet did. But before we go down that route; are there any other scriptable tools I can use to replace the New-Deployment functionality? I looked at Cloudberry for Windows Azure; but that doesn't have a scriptable interface yet. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated.

• Mobile web on nokia devices not displaying centain elements

  So i have a site which is rendered with our in-house portal engine. It resizes images and adjusts style-sheets automatically in real-time. Issue is that some html elements are inexplicably disappearing due to what only can be described as HTML compatibility. But the problem is not consistent. And only seems to be an issue on some nokia devices. I have tried to install the Nokia Mobile Browser Emulator... but its the worst piece of software i have seen in my life... after 4 hours of installing and uninstalling different versions of JRE, i still can't get it to install. • Do Hibernate table classes need to be Serializable?

  I have inherited a Websphere Portal project that uses Hibernate 3.0 to connect to a SQL Server database. There are about 130 Hibernate table classes in this project. They all implement Serializable. None of them declare a serialVersionUID field, so the Eclipse IDE shows a warning for all of these classes. Is there any actual need for these classes to implement Serializable? If so, is there any tool to add a generated serialVersionUID field to a large number of classes at once (just to make the warnings go away) ?

  I have the following gifs on my linux system: $ find . -name *.gif ./gifs/02.gif17.gif ./gifs/fit_logo_en.gif ./gifs/halloween_eyes_63.gif ./gifs/importing-pcs.gif ./gifs/portal.gif ./gifs/Sunflower_as_gif_small.gif ./gifs/weird.gif ./gifs2/00p5dr69.gif ./gifs2/iss013e48788.gif ...and so on What I have written is a program that converts GIF files to BMP with the following interface: ./gif2bmp -i inputfile -o outputfile My question is, is it possible to write a one line command using xargs, awk, find etc. to run my program once for each one of these files? Or do I have to write a shell script with a loop?

• Coffeeshop limits Internet connection to 30 minutes -- how does it recognize me if I delete my cooki

  I was connected to the Internet in a coffeeshop earlier today, but I was only allowed 30 minutes of access. I tried deleting my cookies after my time was up (though admittedly I didn't delete my Flash cookies -- would that have solved the problem?), but the connection still recognized that I'd already used 30 minutes, so I couldn't connect again. How did the connection recognize me still? The wireless was unprotected (no code or password), it just had a portal you had to pass through upon the initial connection. I'm not terribly familiar with web development or computer networks, so just trying to get a better idea of what's happening (and possibly to know what to do next time I use up my minutes =)).

  I am at a new company and one of our goals is to implement a document search portal for our team and our clients. I am a bit worried that if we use an external service provider like Salesforce or some other ECM in the cloud there will be a lot of integration work in the future. From a client perspective, these documents will also exist in the same bucket as our structured content (stored in the DB, not a MS Word doc). If you have implemented document searching, what languages, frameworks, and technologies have you used? Do you have any failure stories? I don't have a problem using something out of the box, but I think it is important that we have control over the documents and the API to access them. I would like to use Rails if we go fully custom.

  I went through the dev portal provisioning process twice now trying to get it to work, but to no avail. I don't think it's the second half (signature is invalid), I think it actually may have to with my binary. I have a warning in xcode that isn't helping me because I don't know what to do about it. And honestly I don't know how relevant this information even is. But it says: "Check Dependencies: Warning: The copy bundle resources build phase contains target's info.plist" The app runs perfectly in the simulator, and I haven't made any changes to the info.plist since I submitted the app to Apple last week. (this is an update) any suggestions?

  Hi, Right now, I have all the employees of my company login to an external website using the company id, username and a password. We are trying to integrate it into an intranet portal which should provide seamless access to this website without requiring the user to enter these credentials. Is there any way of doing this programmatically (.NET C#)? Very similar to screenscraping, Can I simulate the appropriate POST action and then redirect the user to the logged in page?   Hi, One of the azure training kit presentation says: Each account has zero or more logical servers Provisioned via a common portal Establishes a billing instrument Each logical server has one or more databases Contains metadata about database & usage Unit of authentication, geo-location, billing, reporting Generated DNS-based name Each database has standard SQL objects Users, Tables, Views, Indices, etc Unit of consistency So now I'm lost :D. Were not the databases themselves the units of billing? I mean, I thought that servers were just like logical containers and you were charged per number and size of databases. How servers are billed? • Windows azure deployment

  I just built a simple hello world windows azure service containing just one web role, I used visual studio 2008 and Windows azure tools for VS 1.2 I am pretty new to this and I have been trying to deploy an application all afternoon now. I'm in australia and deploying in the region Asia anywhere. I have pretty much followed the info provided on MSDN and it says uploaded 95% then after about ten minutes the deployment disappears. I have tried using the old windows azure developer portal and 30minutes later I can not access the service and it's status is either busy or stopped. I have the introductory offer for an extra small compute instance on the subscription I am deploying to. Can anyone with experience with windows azure elaborate on the subject of deploying apps and the status on my application, I am very keen to get into the platform and this issue has just about spoiled my weekend.

I want to keep a small text box and a button that says "call me". We have a distributed team of three vendors working on separate modules of our .net portal and all of them maintain their own setup and during release they send across the final build. No surprises that this has caused much headache and we have decided that we will keep this environment under our control and checkout the files when required.   I have a simple nav made up of the following HTML; <div class="inner"> <div class="button"><img class="portal" src="images/portalbutton.png" /></div> <a href="#"><div class="prod_description">&nbsp;</div></a> </div> There are a number of items (All set to float left along side each other) to make up a nav bar. When I hover over .button and/or .prod_description I want the .inner <div> to have the class .hover added to it. This is so I can set a background image around the whole thing (Kind of like highlighting the nav item). I only then want to remove .hover when another .button or .prod_description is hovered over, in which case this nav item takes the .hover class.

  We are planning to start a fairly complex web-portal which is expected to attract good local traffic and I've been told by my boss to consider/analyse node.js for the serve side. I think scalability and multi-core support can be handled with an Nginx or Cherokee up in the front. 1) Is this node.js ready for some serious/big business? 2) Does this 'event/asynchronous' paradigm on server side has the potential to support the heavy traffic and data operation ? considering the fact that 'everything' is being processed in a single thread and all the live connections would be lost if it got crashed (though its easy to restart). 3) What are the advantages of event based programming compared to thread based style ? or vice-versa. (I know of higher cost associated with thread switching but hardware can be squeezed with event model.) • CSS issue with margin: auto

  Hi am having an issue with the margin auto of my website where i have a wrapper div with the width set to 1000px and the margins top and bottom to 0 and left and right to auto. I have a navigation menu in the side bar, where i used java script to replace the same div with different tables. when i click a link in the menu the wrapper shifts right some px and the comes to original, I don't want that action i want the wrapper to be static and not to vary at any time. how can i achieve that. when i set the margin to just 0, so problem with positioning. But i want the wrapper to be centered. • Postpone email when domains equal

  HI. For a client i'm developing 4 different email agents for his web portal. I need to send a lot of emails to clients (couple of thousands in the future) which are stored in a database. Sending is fine, but I would like to work out a PHP script which sends emails, but also stores the previous email domain and if they equal than postpone that email for sending later to prevent spam filters. • How to share common css and other resources among grails projects?

  I'm working on a grails-based web application that will be composed of a couple of different grails projects, each developed by a separate team, which will eventually all be unified under a common "portal." So they need to have the same look and feel, at least to some degree. Is there a "blessed" way to share resources like this among projects? Something using the grails plugin architecture maybe? Would it make sense to just create a separate lightweight project containing nothing but the css and any shared resources? How have the rest of you handled sharing things between different grails projects?

• How to submit an app that uses an iOS6 feature?

  I'm ready to submit my app to apple, however it says on the iOS Dev portal that xCode 4.5 cannot be used to submit apps yet, use the public release. xCode 4.4 wont compile my project because I am using -(NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations { return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskPortrait; } which is the new way to support orientation changes. It seems strange with iOS6 round the corner that I cannot submit this. Must I remove this and submit, then resubmit to support iOS6 when they allow it, or has anyone successfully submitted from xCode 4.5 beta 4? Thanks

• How to open an html file using the default file handler and to give the window a name (i.e. target)?

  I am writing a warm-up script for a SharePoint server. The idea is to call stsadm and then open an html file containing iframes which touch all the key web pages in my portal. So far so good. The problem is that each time the script is run, a new browser window is opened and I end up with a screen full of browsers. The first idea was to close the browser after 10 minutes or so. This would be easy to do except that Javascript is disabled when an html file is opened from the file system. I then thought I might be able to open the file and set it in a named window (target) which would be reused each time the script runs but I haven't found any way to do this. Does anyone have any ideas? Either to force JS to run or to set the window name or another solution? Thanks.
