• MYSQL Convert rows to columns performance problem

  I am doing a query that converts rows to columns similar to this post but have encountered a performance problem. Here is the query:- SELECT Info.Customer, Answers.Answer, Answers.AnswerDescription, Details.Code1, Details.Code2, Details.Code3 FROM Info LEFT OUTER JOIN Answers ON Info.AnswerID = Answers.AnswerID LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT ReferenceNo, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde1' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code1, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde2' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code2, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde3' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code3 FROM DetailsData GROUP BY ReferenceNo) Details ON Info.ReferenceNo = Details.ReferenceNo There are less than 300 rows returned, but the Details table is about 180 thousand rows. The query takes 45 seconds to run and needs to take only a few seconds. When I type show processlist; into MYSQL it is hanging on "Sending Data". Any thoughts as to what the performance problem might be?

• Cannot see my wordpress website on google search

  Hi guys I recently uploaded a site made with wordpress. The site url is oakabeachvolley.gr I have set on the privacy settings of wordpress for the site to be visible by search engines. However after almost 45 days the site is invisible on google even when I'm searching using the url name and very specific keywords. Since I have made quite a few sites with wordpress I have never seen this behavior before. Sites will eventually be visible to google engine, sometimes even in the first day. However in this case the site does not show nowhere in the first 20 pages. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I installed ruby-mbox by doing gem install ruby-mbox Running this: #!/usr/bin/ruby require 'rubygems' require 'mbox' m = IO.read('test.eml') puts m.size m = Mbox.new(m) puts m produces this: 71309505 /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/ruby-mbox-0.0.2/lib/mbox/mbox.rb:45:in `initialize': uninitialized constant Mbox::StringIO (NameError) from r.rb:7:in `new' from r.rb:7 I have proved that "m" is assigned a string containing the contents of the file, just before Mbox.new(m) is called. It looks as though the Mbox::StringIO should have been defined by hasn't been. What's going wrong here? Ruby version: ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-12 patchlevel 174) [universal-darwin10.0] (That's the default ruby installed on OS X 10.6.6)

  I'm playing around with the Lahman Baseball Database in a MySQL instance. I want to find the players who topped home runs (HR) for each year. If i try to output a decimal %d i get a number that possibly is a pointer to something. Can somebody explain why the integers become NSNumbers when i call the @avg operator?

• Inconsistent Loading Times for GeoRSS Overlay Between Firefox and IE

  I have a very simple page built to display a map and overlay a line based on points in a GeoRSS XML file. Here is the publicly accessible file. http://68.178.230.189/georssimport.html Firefox is loading in about 5 secs, which is expected because there are a lot of points to map, but IE (6 & 7) is taking upwards of 45 secs to a minute. What can I do to diagnose what is going on? What is a tool that will show me what is going on? (i.e. Firebug for IE) Thanks, Mark

• Better algorithm for estimating download time

  We've all seen the download time running estimate that initially says something like "7 days", but keeps dropping wildly (e.g. "23 hours", "45 minutes", "1 min. 50 sec", etc) with each successive estimation as the chunks are downloaded. To avoid these initial (alarming) estimates, there are techniques one could try like suppressing display of the first n estimates, or waiting for the delta between estimates to drop below some threshold before you start displaying them, but these don't seem like a general, robust solution. There are corner cases involving too few samples, or samples that actually are wildly varying... I think I recall a general solution for this kind of thing in mathematics (statistics?) that reduced or eliminated these wild values. Does anyone know?

• Multi-process builds in Visual Studio 2010: Worth it?

  I've started testing our C++ software with VS2010 and the build times are really bad (30-45 minutes, about double the VS2005 times). I've been reading about the /MP switch for multi-process compilation. Unfortunately, it is incompatible with some features that we use quite a bit like #import, incremental compilation, and precompiled headers. Have you had a similar project where you tried the /MP switch after turning off things like precompiled headers? Did you get faster builds? My machine is running 64-bit Windows 7 on a 4 core machine with 4 GB of RAM and a fast SSD storage. Virus scanner disabled and a pretty minimal software environment.

• Flex - weird display behavior on large number of Canvas

  Hi, I have a Flex app (SDK 3.5 - FP10) that does mindmap trees. Every node is a Canvas (I'm using Canvas specific properties so I needed it). It has a shadow effect, background color and some small ui element on it (like icons, texts...). It works perfectly until it goes over ~700 nodes (Canvas). Over that number it shows grey rectangles: http://yfrog.com/bhw2pj . If I turn off the DropShadowFilter effect for the Canvas, they are also gone, so I assume it's a DropShadowFilter problem: http://yfrog.com/2d9y8j .   Hello I'm doing some data conversion from PostgreSQL to Microsoft SQL Server. So far it has all went well and I almost have the entire database dump script running. There is only one thing that is now messed up: dates. The dates are dumped to a string format. These are two example formats I've seen so far: '2008-01-14 12:00:00' and the more precise '2010-04-09 12:23:45.26525' I would like a regex (or set of regexs) that I could run so that will replace these with SQL Server compatible dates. Anyone know how I can do that?
