• Must developers understand the business domain or should the specification be sufficient?

  I work for a company for which the domain is really difficult to understand because it is high technology in electronics, but this is applicable to any software development in a complex domain. The application that I work on displays a lot of information, charts, and metrics which are difficult to understand without experience in the domain. The developer uses a specification to describe what the software must do, such as specifing that a particular chart must display this kind of metrics and this metric is the following arithmetic formula. This way, the developer doesn't really understand the business and what/why he is doing this task. This can be OK if specification is really detailled but when it isn't or when the author has forgotten a use case, this is quite hard for the developer to find a solution. At the other hand, training every developer to all the business aspects can be very long and difficult. Should we give more importance to detailled specification (but as we know, perfect specification does not exist) or should we train all the developers to understand the business domain? EDIT: keep in mind in your answer that the company could used external developpers.

• Continuous Retraining Tutorials

  I am looking for an online resource in which you can sortof design your future professional profile and it would provide you a set of tutorials that you would complete to get a basic level of familiarity with related technologies. One of my professional problems is my learning style: I can learn either by direct hands-on experience OR by following a rigid training program that goes in a linear progression. I have a hard time learning things in a multidimensional environment where the biggest challenge is to determine what needs to be learned and how to pick from a ton of books and the least problem is to go through the actual material. So I am looking for a reputable source that will knock those two confusing questions out for me so I can kick back and continuously be upgrading my skills without having to worry about what and how myself. I have found some decent online tutorials for various technologies but never found a single place that has all or most developer education tutorials that all follow the same or similar interface. I am kindof a lazy learner and would rather follow confirmed learning steps than be figuring my own education path just to realize I did it all wrong down the road. Is there a tutorial mega-boutique like that online?

  Microsoft launched the developer preview version of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) at MIX 10 web conference yesterday.This release is aimed getting the feedback from website designers , developers and other community to make IE9 development better from its previous versions. Microsoft will update the developer preview every eight weeks and the next update is expected on mid of march.So what is new and interesting  about IE9 Chakra Chakra (The new scripting engine of IE9) renders the Java script much faster compared to IE8 and other browsers thus improving the performance significantly.According to Microsoft Chakra renders the java script in background with a separate thread parallel to the main engine which is complete new way of rendering from the current browser technologies Standards Microsoft is desperate to make ( surprisingly!!!) IE9 compliance to  web standards by supporting the open standards such as Accelerated support for HTML5 video support for new web technologies such as CSS3 and SVG2. ACID3 Test IE9 scores (55/100) in its latest ACID3 test which is much better compared to the IE8 score (22/100) but not even  nearer to their rivals Chrome, Opera, and Safari which scores 100/100 in ACID3 testing I am little disappointed over not able to download the  developer preview on my XP machine.   This article addresses frequently asked questions about Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) 64-bit Linux support.Q:  Which 64-bit Linux OSs are supported for EBS? A: Beginning with Release 12, we support the following 64-bit operating systems for both application and database tiers on x86-64 servers:Oracle Enterprise Linux Red Hat Enterprise Linux SUSE Linux Enterprise Server For EBS Release 11i (and again in Release 12), when the application tier is installed on a certified platform, additional platforms (including the above) may be used for a 64-bit database tier on x86-64 servers. This is an example of a mixed platform architecture (Release 12), or a Split Configuration (Release 11i). Q:  I understand that the EBS application tier code is 32-bit, even for the 64-bit Linux OS -- is this the case?A: It is true that the majority of executables provided as part of our release media on the application tier are 32-bit (as are the Fusion Middleware libraries and objects they depend on).  However, the 'Planning' products have large memory requirements and therefore are 64-bit compiled to take advantage of the larger memory space afforded by the 64-bit OS'es.

• Synaptic: Requires installation of untrusted packages

  I am completely new to the forums and almost completely new to Linux. I am running Chrubuntu on an Acer C7 and I've been having trouble installing anything in the Ubuntu Software Center. Based on some advice in another thread I tried to install Synaptic, which seems like it does the same thing except it actually works, but I get the same error message with that as I have with every other program I've tried installing. This is all I get under the details: libept1.4.12 librarian0 rarian-compat synaptic Any help with some simple step by step instructions on how to fix this, and will Synaptic basically be able to replace the Software Center? Thanks a lot.

• New database profiling support in ANTS Performance Profiler

  In May last year, the ANTS Performance Profiler team added the ability to profile database requests your application makes to SQL Server or Oracle. The really cool thing is that you’re shown those requests in the application’s call tree, so you can see what .NET code caused those queries to run. It’s particularly helpful if you’re using an ORM which automagically generates and runs queries for you, but which doesn’t necessarily do it in the most efficient way possible. Now by popular demand, we’ve added support for profiling MySQL (or MariaDB) and PostgreSQL, so you can see queries run against those databases too. Some of you have also said that you’re using the Devart dotConnect data providers instead of the native .NET ones, so we’ve added support for those drivers too. Hope it helps! • Brand New Annotations Support

  Hi all! Today we would like to introduce you our brand new annotation support for NetBeans 7.2. The first thing which is different is the look of annotations in code completion. As you can see, there is a new annotation icon and an annotation type. Because we have a lot of modules with their own annotations, we differ them in code completion window by their type. We support annotations for: ApiGen (legacy PHPDoc annotations), PHPUnit, Doctrine 2 (ORM and ODM) and Symfony 2. Every annotation can be associated with some context. We recognize four of them: function, class/interface (type), method and field. It means that you will get just proper annotations for your class field as well as your global function. Do you have your own annotations? Or do you simply miss some? There is nothing hard to add it in there. We have a simple UI for adding your custom annotations! It's in Tools -> Options -> PHP -> Annotations. Here you can simply add, edit or delete your annotations. When you try to create new one, all fields are prefilled by some default values. So you really don't have to remember "how to use that crazy freemarker syntax". If you are satisfied with your new annotation, you can see it in a code completion window among other annotations. As you can see it has its own "Custom" type. • How best to implement HTML5 support for my validation library

  I have created an annotation-based validation library called regula. There seems to be some amount of interest around the framework and the next thing I'd like to do is to support HTML5 validation. Originally I figured that I would check to see if the browser supported the HTML5 validation that has been specified and to either emulate or delegate to built-in regula equivalents. This is trivial for things like required, but once you start getting into the date-validation, it gets tricky (date widgets, localization, etc.). So I have a few options in front of me: Full HTML5 Shim along with widgets (for date stuff etc.): I feel like this is overkill and essentially reinventing the wheel since this is already covered by things like modernizr. Use HTML5 validation if available (either native, or provided by shim; otherwise ignore): What this means is that if HTML5 validation is available (natively or through a shim) I will use it, otherwise I will ignore it. I'm leaning towards the latter since currently if someone wants to use HTML5 validation, they will most probably require a shim since not all browsers support HTML5. Which option do you think is better?

  ** my problem is as following: unable to add/remove any program using either update-manager or Synaptic Package Manager or terminal update-manager is asking for partial upgrade and while updating software-center 5.6.2 catalog , there is no progress beyond the line "this is may take a moment" synaptic is unable to obtain an exclusive lock, similarly can't do terminal command sudo apt-get update if i try to break down the lock using the command sudo fuser -cuk /var/lib/dpkg/lock; sudo rm -f /var/lib/dpkg/lock it turns off my monitor display and i have to restart the whole system. note: this whole trouble started ,when i found ubuntu software-center missing after adding a repository and reinstalled it. **

  I was taking the Windows Azure CmdLets project and getting it into an MSI just to make it easier to deploy in a nice package.  I ran into problems with the Setup project not being able to properly establish the right registry settings for an x64 environment. Even though you set the target platform on the Setup project to x64 the InstallUtil.lib that get’s run is still x86.  In order to have it work property, you need to follow the steps identified here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/kz0ke5xt.aspx  The section “64-bit managed custom actions throw a System.BadImageFormatException exception” covers the steps you need to follow, using the Orca MSI editor to replace the InstallUtilLib.dll from the one that the Setup Project embeds (x86) to a x64 version. • Why C# does not support multiple inheritance?

  Yesterday, One of my friend Dharmendra ask me that why C# does not support multiple inheritance. This is question most of the people ask every time. So I thought it will be good to write a blog post about it. So why it does not support multiple inheritance? I tried to dig into the problem and I have found the some of good links from C# team from Microsoft for why it’s not supported in it. Following is a link for it. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/csharpfaq/archive/2004/03/07/85562.aspx Also, I was giving some of the example to my friend Dharmendra where multiple inheritance can be a problem.The problem is called the diamond problem. Let me explain a bit. If you have class that is inherited from the more then one classes and If two classes have same signature function then for child class object, It is impossible to call specific parent class method. But for interface you can call that method explicitly that this is the method for the first interface and this the method for second interface. This is not possible with multiple inheritance. • Enabling support of EUS and Fusion Apps in OUD

  Since the 11gR2 release, OUD supports Enterprise User Security (EUS) for database authentication and also Fusion Apps. I'll plan to blog on that soon. Meanwhile, the R2 OUD graphical setup does not let you configure both EUS and FusionApps support at the same time. However, it can be done manually using the dsconfig command line. The simplest way to proceed is to select EUS from the setup tool, then manually add support for Fusion Apps using dsconfig using the commands below: - create a FA workflow element with eusWfe as next element: dsconfig create-workflow-element \           --set enabled:true \           --set next-workflow-element:Eus0 \           --type fa \           --element-name faWfe - modify the workflow so that it starts from your FA workflow element instead of Eus: dsconfig set-workflow-prop \           --workflow-name userRoot0 \           --set workflow-element:faWfe  Note: the configuration changes may slightly differ in case multiple databases/suffixes are configured on OUD.

• How to reinstall many removed packages at once?

  I used sudo apt-get remove python command and accidently removed a bunch of packages that were required. I logged in via command line and installed ubuntu-desktop again but there are other packages that are missing, and I'm looking for a way to easily reinstall those removed packages. Since there's the log at software-center I wanted to ask what the easiest way might be to roll back changes or extract the removed packages list from the software center... note: I typed sudo apt-get install .... .... ... ... for about two dozen of those removed programs in that list, but when I pressed enter it didn't install any of them because some package names couldn't be found. The programs were removed at the same date.
