• Programmatically get screenshot of page

  I'm writing a specialized crawler and parser for internal use and I require the ability to take a screenshot of a web page in order to check what colours are being used throughout. The program will take in around ten web addresses and will save them as a bitmap image, from there I plan to use LockBits in order to create a list of the five most used colours within the image. To my knowledge it's the easiest way to get the colours used within a web page but if there is an easier way to do it please chime in with your suggestions. Anyway, I was going to use this program until I saw the price tag. I'm also fairly new to C#, having only used it for a few months. Can anyone provide me with a solution to my problem of taking a screenshot of a web page in order to extract the colour scheme?

Ok, you're right Mr. FxCop, I'll add a private constructor: Private Utilities() Now I'm having: "It appears that field 'Utilities.Utilities' is never used or is only ever assigned to. Use this field or remove it." Any ideas of what should I do to get rid of both warnings?

• Using Qtcreator (with Qwt), really basic stuff

  I'm trying to make a Qt program using Qtcreator and Qwt for plotting. I've never used Qtcreator before. I've created a mainwindow and added a Qwtplot widget there (object name: qwtPlot). The widget shows up in the program when I compile and run it. But theres no mention of the qwtPlot object anywhere in the (autogenerated) code so I assume it is being added at compile time from the .ui xml file (or something). My question is that... how do I modify/change the qwtPlot object? Or where should I place the code. I'm having a hard time articulating my question but the question basically is "How do I do anything with the qwtPlot widget which is created (graphically) with Qtcreator?". I've checked some tutorials but in the tutorials they add the widgets manually in the code, but I'd like to use Qtcreator (because my UI will be fairly complicated). This whole Qtcreator is pretty confusing...

• User Mode Linux - Installing a module error

  I am trying to run 'make' on a module in User Mode Linux to install a simple makefile. Here is my make file: obj-m := hello.o KDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build PWD := $(shell pwd) default: $(MAKE) -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD) modules When I run this in User Mode Linux I get the following error: make[1]: Entering directory /lib/modules/2.6.28/build' make[1]: *** No rule to make targetmodules'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/lib/modules/2.6.28/build' make: * [default] Error 2 The problem is that no files are present under /lib/modules/. There's no directory for 2.6.28 or build. From what I've read, these should be symlinks to /usr/src, but under /usr/src, I don't see any files under that either.

  Hi, I have a website using asp.net mvc in which I need to embed a flash file in view. I am unable to set the relative path for the flash file. If I use code behind( default.aspx default.aspx.cs) in a different solution with the same folder strucuture, browser is able to load the flash file. • C# app fails to load Matlab DLL when running from a shared drive?

  I have a C# .NET 2.0 program that calls a Matlab .dll file that I created using Matlab Builder for .NET. This Matlab .dll file is a wrapper for a m file function that I need to call from my C# program. Everything works fine when I run this app from my local drive. However once I copy the app to a shared drive the Matlab dll fails when it's first loaded. I setup caspol to allow .NET programs to run from shared drives. Does anyone know what could cause this problem or a tool that I could use to easily figure out what the problem is? Thanks.

• Possible apache/mysql/php wrapper?

  I was tasked with writing a smallish program for data input and manipulation. My language of choice happens to be PHP. I have written out the program/site it all works fine is easily portable and everything but have one question. Is there anyway to wrap up apache/mysql/php into a bundle of one exe? I know of MoWes Portable and other options but I am looking to basically wrap everything up into a single exe without much fuss to the end user. My target users are very low on the computer savvy scale. I am trying to avoid a batch file for launching and don't really want them able to shutdown one part on accident and not another (IE shut off mysql but leave apache on).

• Mono and Apache are serving files with no ASP.NET processing

  On a new Rackspace Cloud Server box (Ubuntu 9.10), I've installed apache2, libapache2-mod-mono, and mod-mono-server2. I've disabled mod_mono and enabled mod_mono_auto, but whatever I do, requests for Default.aspx return the actual contents of Default.aspx (in this case, "This is a marker file generated by the precompilation tool, and should not be deleted!") I've installed XSP, and it looks like it works okay, but I'd like to use Apache with mod_mono (seems a more common configuration) if I can get it running. However, this is no error messages and no hints, with Google obviously not terribly helpful. What else can I look for to make sure I'm configured correctly? How can I test further?

• Access Violation Exception only appearing when running C# app without debugger attached

  I have an application that works fine in Visual Studios 2008, and I am trying to get it into VS 2010 in order to use .NET 4, and I have a really weird problem. When I run the code from either Release mode or Debug mode with the debugger attached (F5), I have no problems running the program. However, when I run the program from either Release or Debug without the debugger attached (Shift+F5), I get an Access Violation Exception when I attempt to run some code in a dll from GDCM. I've created the dlls by using CMake and Swig and following the instructions here adjusting the instructions where necessary to build for VS 2010 and .NET 4. Does any one have any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?

• .NET interop COM DLL behaves differently in VB6 debugger

  I have a .NET v2.0 Dll that exposes a few classes to COM. The assembly is called BLogic.DLL I'm calling these classes from a legacy visual basic 6.0 application. I can generate and EXE file and if I have Blogic.dll in the same folder as the EXE, the program runs without a hitch. However If I try and launch the same program within the VB6 debugger I get a: Automation Error The system cannot find the file specified I assume when I'm running in the debugger, the PLogic.dll file can't be found. I tried putting it in the System32 folder, and the same folder as the VB6.EXE file, but I still get the same error. Other facts that may help: PLogic.dll is NOT a strongly-named assembly. It depends on a 3rd party reference that isn't strongly signed so VS doesn't let me strongly sign it. However the 3rd party functionality isn't being called by the VB6 code, and it is not ComVisible.

  Hi Guys, Im having some problems with a GTK program im trying to build. When i compile it i keep getting this error: This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 195 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0) Ive traced it down to the following command that appears to be causing it: gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX (Top_Graph), Widget_Get (Graph_Cpu), TRUE, TRUE, 0); Now Top_Graph and Graph_Cpu are both GtkVbox Widgets. Has anyone ever seen an error like this, and could they give me some advice as to how it is caused Regards Paul

• GUI freezing after datagridviews have been updated using backgroundworkers

  I have made an application which runs three backgroundworkers simultaneously. It basically updates three datagridviews, which it is doing spot on. My problem is if I press maximizebox button or anywhere in any of the datagridview the program hangs for quite a long time. I am able to use the horizontal scroll but not vertical scrolls. I have tried Backgroundworker_runworkercompleted and it fires as required after threads have updated their respective datagridviews. Is it a normal behaviour or am i doing something wrong any suggestions would be helpful. P.S: I have run the whole program using step method and their is no infinite loop in the code.   Hi all, I am tasked with writing a program that, given a search term and the HTML source of a page representing search results of some unknown search engine (it can really be anything, a blog, a shop, Google, eBay, ...), needs to build a data structure of the results containing "what's in the results": a title for earch result, the "details" link, the position within the results etc. It is not known whether the results page contains any of the data at all, and whether there are any search results. The goal is to feed the data structure into another program that extracts meaning. What I am looking for is not BeautifulSoup or a RegExp but rather some clever ideas or algorithms on how to interpret the HTML source. What do I do to find out what part of the page constitutes a single result item? How do I filter the markup noise to extract the important bits? What would you do? Pointers to fields of research covering what I try to to are aly greatly appreciated. Thanks, Simon

  Hello. I have an MFC-driven dialog-based application created with MSVS2005. Here is my problem step by step. I have button on my dialog and corresponding click-handler with code like this: int* i = 0; *i = 3; I'm running debug version of program and when I click on the button, Visual Studio catches focus and alerts "Access violation writing location" exception, program cannot recover from the error and all I can do is to stop debugging. And this is the right behavior. Well now the strange things begin to happen: all initialization is fine, there are no errors in OnInitDialog(), but when I click the button... no exception is thrown. Nothing happens. At all. If I set a break-point at the *i = 3; and press F11 on it, the handler-function halts immediately and focus is returned to the application, which continue to work well. I can click button again and the same thing will happen. It seems like someone had handled occurred exception of access violation and silently returned execution into main application message-receiving cycle. If I comment the line wglMakeCurrent(DC, hrc);, all works fine as before, exception is thrown and Visual Studio catches it and shows window with error message and program must be terminated afterwards. I experience this problem under Windows 7 64-bit, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 with latest drivers (of 11.01.2010) available at website installed. My colleague has Windows Vista 32-bit and has no such problem - exception is thrown and application crashes in both cases. Well, hope good guys will help me :) PS The problem originally where posted under this topic.

• How do I set my development web browser in VS2010?

  I don't like to use IE for my system default web browser. but I do want to set IE as my browser in VS2010 because it works a little nicer for debugging and I like to develop to the lowest common denominator. (jab, lol)... anyhow, can I default to debugging against IE? I know in VS2008 you just had to "Browse With..." on an .aspx page. But that option doesn't exist in VS2010 RC. What gives?

• setting up log4j for gmail, does not recognize System.setProperty("mail.smtps.port", "587")

  Hi I am trying to setup a smtpappender for log4j using gmail as the smtp host. I have read that the port number needs to be 465 or 587 (depending on tls or ssl) and that log4j for some reason doesnt allow a different port to be set inside log4j.properties configuration file. I have read that the best way of doing this would be to use System.setProperty which would change the default javaxmail port to gmail. However when I try to set the System.property entries the the default port still remains as 25 System.setProperty("mail.smtp.starttls.enable", "true"); System.setProperty("mail.smtp.port", "587"); I was wondering if someone could help me out, I am open to suggestions, I just need to smtpAppender to work for gmail, dont really care how to get it to work. • Linking buttion to jQuery through service

  I have a small problem that should be very easy to overcome. For some reason I cant work this out. So the problem is I cannot get a button to link to some jquery. I want it to be pressed and bring up a popup.
