• Visual Studio 2012 setup crashes when trying to install

  In my Win7(64 bit) PC, I installed VS 2012 Ultimate Trial version few days back and today i got my msdn subscription of VS2012 Premium. so i uninstalled the Trial and was trying to run the setup exe for VS 2012 and dit is crashing. this is the error details i am seeing. Anybody know how to fix this ? • Escaping an equals sign in DOS batch string replacement command

  Hi, I need to replace some text in a JNLP file using a DOS batch file to tune it for the local machine. The problem is that the search pattern contains an equals sign which is messing up the string replacement in the batch file. I want to replace the line, <j2se version="1.5" initial-heap-size="100M" max-heap-size="100M"/> with specific settings for the initial and max heap sizes. For example at the moment I have, for /f "tokens=* delims=" %%a in (%filePath%agility.jnlp) do ( set str=%%a set str=!str:initial-heap-size="100M"=initial-heap-size="%min%M"! echo !str!>>%filePath%new.jnlp) but the = in the search pattern is being read as part of the replacement command. How do I escape the equals sign so it is processed as text?

• win xp wifi networking

  I have 2 pcs with win xp and a wifi router ( without outgoing internet connection )...my job was to connect them over wifi to share some files. router was properly configured, both computers connected to wifi without problems, but when I tried to network them I could not see them in workgroup...i changed their names and added them to same workgroup but i couldn't connect pc1 to pc2 ( i could ping router from each pc but pinging other computer resulted in ping timeout) ..now i cant figure out why this is not working since I've done this before on more complex networks and it should work but...( maybe I have gremlins hiding somewhere..) edit1: Firewall is down on both machines( I disengaged it in both control panel and in services) and folder sharing and permissions are ok.. edit2: I know about Ad Hoc network ( wlan-to-wlan, without router/switch ) but that's not what I am trying to accomplish here :)

• Sonicwall SSL VPN: Unable to reconnect once connection drops

  One of my users is having problems with his NetExtender connection. After installing NetExtender from the portal, it connects fine -- ONCE. After that, attempting to reconnect gives Verifying user...authentication fail! and the log on the router shows: [timestamp] | Info | SSLVPN | Auth Failed: No user name in http request (message id: 1079) This seems odd to me because the user name, password and domain are entered on the NetExtender client. After this error occurs, the only way to connect again is to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall NetExtender. He can connect fine to the Sonicwall SSLVPN demo site, and a different user can connect fine to this site from a different PC. Any clues?

• https not working... binding set, certificate installed

  I've installed the certificate and set the https bindings. However, when I load the site on https it does not load. I've looked at all the settings but everything seems correct. I've restarted the site numerous times. The certificate is stored on the local computer under personal-certificates... I have the private key for the certificate. The port (443) is open. If I try https://localhost on the server, the site loads... but with a domain error (i.e. it's localhost and not thedomain.com). But https://thedomain.com doesn't load. I really don't know why the https url isn't loading... anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

• Project Server 2007 Task Updates hangs on 'Loading Grid...'

  A strange problem began occurring after applying MOSS2 (KB953334) and the August 2009 cumulative update to our Project server. When a user enters the 'Task Update' screen they are prompted to download a new ActiveX control. Upon refresh, and subsequent access attempts, the user is presented with a blank grid with the caption 'Loading Grid...' We have attempted to fix this issue by updating the 'Trusted Sites' list and changing the security settings according to KB818046. However, nothing seems to definitely fix the problem. Also, when the problem randomly fixes itself, it still occurs when viewing specific projects. Any ideas on a fix?

• How to completely disable Mysqli

  It seems the new hacker tool refref has been launched, and apparently it abuses a bug in the mysqli extension. Now I do not use mysqli at all for my websites, so i thought the best way to fight off this refref tool was to completely disable mysqli. These are the settings i have set in my php.ini. • Wireless networking on Gnome on Ubuntu 9 / 10

  So here's my problem: I have some netbooks (ASUS eee, and ACER Aspire Ones) that I've been tasked to set up as kiosk machines, locked up tight for normal users. I am a command-line, server man, so this gnome malarkey is all a bit new to me. I found a lovely 9.04 kiosk livecd that installs and runs exactly as I want it to, but I can't get the wireless working. So I dropped on a full 10.4 distro, and wireless works straight out of the box (so hardware is good) - all I needed to do was right-click on the network connection icon, enter my SSID and password (WPA/WPA2) and away it went, perfect. Further investigation on 10.4 distro shows that /etc/networking/interfaces is virtually empty (just auto lo iface lo inet loopback in it), even after I have set up the wireless thru the gnome taskbar applet (is that the right word?). So where does gnome / ubuntu store the network settings to bring the blasted wireless connection up, and what do I need to do on the kiosk version to get wireless running?

• Pycharm and Webstorm always on top unless minimized

  I'm running Windows 7. I have the following problem in both Webstorm 7 and Pycharm 3. I haven't found this problem in any other programs. I have not found any clues as to a solution on Google or in the settings of either program. When I run the programs not maximized and I click any other window to switch focus, the Webstorm (or Pycharm) window flashes, appearing to lose focus for a split second before, and it stays on top. This blocks any other window behind it from having focus, and is quite annoying.

• Creating a user account on a mac you don't have admin access to [migrated]

  I am trying to create a user account on a school computer so I can run processes (like compiling large libraries) with admin permissions settings. This way I can walk away and let other people user the computer, and come back after class to retrieve the binaries. Usually some smart person decides to shut the machine down, but if I had higher permissions they wouldn't be able to terminate my processes. Right now I use the guest account, which everyone has access to. If you think this is in some way unethical or a bad idea, please criticize. tl,dr I tried using the dscl series of commands in single user mode as root, as recommended by this site. It returns this error: Cannot open remote host, error: DSOpenDirServiceErr How can I create a local user on this machine to compile my code with higher permissions?

• How best to troubleshoot a WIA issue through an IIS7 reverse proxy.

  I've got an Intranet site that uses Windows Authentication and is accessed through an IIS 7 Reverse Proxy. Using FireFox, Safari or Chrome it works fine. I'm prompted for credentials, I supply them and away I go. In IE 7/8 I get prompted for credentials but they're rejected and I eventually get a 401 not authorized error. The application server is configured for Windows Auth only and rejects basic authentication. I would be surprised if the front end proxy would accept Basic Auth so my suspicion is that it's a trust issue with my browser and IE isn't relaying the credentials however our IS Team has IE so locked down I'm unable to alter trust levels or even view the settings. How should I go about troubleshooting this problem? I'm at a loss and they've yet to respond to my support ticket.

  I've a PPTP server setup on my local home network (192.168.1.0/24, pfSense). Now sometimes when I'm away and want to connect remotely my client (Windows 7) is also on the same network because e.g. the hotel has set it up the same way. Thus the connection works, but I can't reach any PC on my home network because everything is routed directly to the client local router which is in the same subnet. Is there a way to work around this by messing with a configuration or adapting Windows routing table, i.e. without modifying either network?

  I'm trying to install VPN client Shrew, in the process of installation an error occurs. Error 0x800f0203: Couldn't install the network component. It occurs when the installer tries to execute C:\Program Files\ShrewSoft\VPN Client\netcfg.exe -add service vflt C:\Program Files\ShrewSoft\VPN Client\drivers\vfilter.inf Anti-virus, firewall, etc. - are disabled. Run from administrator. Installing vfilter.inf in manual mode, but it's nowhere leads. A similar situation with the Cisco VPN client. Need a VPN client supports a group authorization, and import the settings from pcf format. I'll be glad to any advice!

• Outlook close to tray

  Ok, I'm stuck using outlook in the office (but they let me use 2010 betas which are awsome, btw) and one thing I'll allways rant about outlook in any version is that when I press the X button it goes away. I mean, I know the X button is supposed to close the app, it's the standard and all that, but email is (sadly) very critical, as well as meeting requests and reminders, outlook should not be closed so freaking easily. I mean, Live Messenger is not so critical but it has this feature built in and on by default. Is there a way to close outlook to the tray, addons, vba, settings, reghack, anything? I know there is minimize to tray and I've been searching the web but could not find anything usefull.

  How can I disable the local user account password complexity settings on Windows 2008 R2 "Server Core"? I am trying to migrate our windows 2003 web server to windows 2008 R2. I am trying to see if I can use the "Server Core" install, and it has been a very internet search intensive experience. What I can't find out how to do is to find out how to disable password complexity for local user accounts. While our user account generator currently creates nice strong passwords, there was a time when this was not the case and unfortunately forcing the users to change their password is not an option at this time.   I have a VPS in England and a hosting account with hostgator. I use GoDaddy to manage my domain name settings. My VPS is mainly used for mail and certain other services. The actual site is hosted at hostgator I had a cname called "www" which would point to mydomain.com, at hostgator All the rest would point to my vps. (The "A" host, @) Now Hostgator lost my original domain name, so pointing to that leads to a fake website. But you can't just make www point to an ip adres. No. I tried adding an "A" host which would point to the hostgator ip-adres and then I would point the "www" cname to that "A" host. But that does not work. Can anyone shed some light on this?

• Bulk convert PNG-24 to PNG-8 files with best quality

  Hi, Can anybody recommend a good method of bulk converting a large amount of PNG-24 files to PNG-8 with as little loss of quality as possible and maintaining transparency? I've tried ImageMagick but the resulting images weren't quite as crisp quality as I'd like. Using Paint.NET I was able to achieve far better results, but I can't bulk process with this tool as far as I know. The settings I used with ImageMagick in case there's better options to use: convert file.png -depth 4 file-output.png I've also been playing with OptiPNG, but I haven't discovered a was of making sure the output images are PNG-8. • Dual Exchange 2010 on different VM + single public IP + multiple domains

  Here is the scenario: I have 2 Exchange Server 2010 on 2 different Virtual Machines, created by and based on Hyper-V. They have IP and domain: 192.168.5.11, domainA.com ; and 192.168.5.12, domainB.com respectively. The problem is, I only have 1 public IP, say 123.123.1.1 . How do I configure the settings so that I can successfully receive emails using both Exchange servers? Given that I cannot use single Exchange server for multiple domains. -- UPDATE -- To clarify, the domainA.com and domainB.com mentioned above are website domains, instead of multiple Active Directory forests. Users of the two Exchange Server shares the same Active Directory. I know that ONE Exchange Server can handle multiple domains, but I would like to separate them into different Virtual Machines, for load balancing and data separation.

• Virus that tries to brute force attack Active Directory users (in alphabetical order)?

  Users started complaining about slow network speed so I fired up Wireshark. Did some checking and found many PCs sending packets similar to the following: (screenshot) http://imgur.com/45VlI.png I blurred out the text for the username, computer name and domain name (since it matches the internet domain name). Computers are spamming the Active Directory servers trying to brute force hack passwords. It will start with Administrator and go down the list of users in alphabetical order. Physically going to the PC finds no one anywhere near it and this behavior is spread across the network so it appears to be a virus of some sort. Scanning computers which have been caught spamming the server with Malwarebytes, Super Antispyware and BitDefender (this is the antivirus the client has) yields no results. This is an enterprise network with about 2500 PCs so doing a rebuild is not a favorable option. My next step is to contact BitDefender to see what help they can provide. Has anybody seen anything like this or have any ideas what it could possibly be?

• Event 4098, 0x80070533 Logon failure: account currently disabled?

  Having started to upgrade our PCs to Windows 7 we have noticed that we are getting group policy warnings in Event Viewer such as: "The user 'Word.qat' preference item in the 'a_Office2007_Users {A084A37B-6D4C-41C0-8AF7-B891B87FC53B}' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070533 Logon failure: account currently disabled.' This error was suppressed." 15 of these warnings appear every two hours on every Windows 7 PC, most of which are to do with core office applications and two are for plug-ins to out document management system. These warnings aren't afecting the users, but it would be nice to track down the source of them before we rollout Win7 to the rest of the Organisation. Any ideas as to where the login issue could be comming from (All users are connecting to the domain and proxy, etc fine)?

  My sysadmin recently installed a new version of GCC, in /lusr/opt/gcc-4.4.3. I tested it as follows: mike@canon:~$ cat test.c int main(){ return 0; } mike@canon:~$ gcc test.c /lusr/opt/gcc-4.4.3/libexec/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.3/cc1: error while loading shared libraries: libmpfr.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory After informing my sysadmin about this, he said to add /lusr/opt/mpfr-2.4.2/lib:/lusr/opt/gmp-4.3.2/lib to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH. After doing this, I get the following error: mike@canon:~$ gcc test.c cc1: error: unrecognized command line option "-L/lusr/opt/mpfr-2.4.2/lib" First, my sysadmin wasn't entirely sure this was the best workaround(though he did say it worked for him...), so is there a better solution? Second, why am I getting a linker error from cc, and how can I fix it? • Enabling media streaming from a removable drive using Windows Media Player

  I have Windows Media Player set up to stream video to several devices in my apartment. I had recently run out of space so I purchased an external drive to store my videos/music etc. I can add the media to my WMP library and play it locally without issue. As soon as I try to access the media from another device that supports media streaming (Media player or another PC) only the media stored on a fixed drive is available. Is there a way to enable media sharing from a removable drive or somehow trick WMP that the media is stored on a fixed drive? I tried setting up a SymLink linking a directory on the fixed drive to the removable one but with the same result.

• Need to open links in new tab in ie8 !

  I have a sidebar (right sided iframe) and when i click on a link in it, it opens a new window in IE8, (in firefox it open a new tab). What do i need to do to open links in IE8 in a new tab. I already set the Tools-Internet Options-Settings- 'Always open pop-ups in a new tab' and 'A new tab in the current window' open in new tab but still doesn't work. My links are pretty simple, what am i missing ? exemple: text. Also some site are saying to register Regsvr32 actxprxy.dll to fix this problem, still doesn't work. And i want this to work with a simple click, no 'right-click-open in new tab' option. I also hope i won't get the 'can't change how ie8 works' answer. ;)

• Multiple IP addresses on one NIC register twice in DNS server

  Hi, We've got a build server (Windows Server 2008 SP2, 64-bit) which has one NIC and two IP addresses registered to that NIC (192.168.1.30 and 192.168.1.31). The build server is registering two identical Host (A) records for itself in our DNS server: buildserver.example.com = 192.168.1.30 buildserver.example.com = 192.168.1.31 I know in the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" window for the build server's NIC, under the "DNS" tab, there is a check box labeled "Register this connection's addresses in DNS". I only want ONE of the IP addresses (ending in .30) to be registered in DNS not both of them. Can that be done? My best guess is to disable the "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" and manually add the Host (A) record to our DNS server. Thanks for any help!
