  How I can easily apply a template to an existing OO Calc file? AFAIK it is possible only to make a new file from a template, copy the sheets in it, and save/overwrite the old file. But I don't like this way; there is a easier/better way to do this? Like a macro, or something like that. I just need to repeatedly apply page margins to my sheet.

• Can't solve DNS problem on windows XP machine

  I have a machine that can't access the server. I tried pinging the using the ip address of the server and it work great. But when I use the name to ping the server it gives a timeout. My nslookup cannot resolve the DNS servers but others in my company can. I am wondering is there something that can cause these behavior. I can access the internet though with their names. I am runiing on a xp SP2

  When writing a long command in the *nix command line and having to go back to the first character, in order to add something at the beginning (for instance a nohup, when you realize the process will be a long one, or a sudo, when you realize you need root permissions) it can take a long time for the cursor to make its way back to the first character... Is there a short cut that allows you to jump straight there? I'm using a mac, so Home is not an option

• crontable OR conditions

  Crontable parameters seem to function as 'ands' conditions. So the example 0 9-5 * * 1-5 Runs when the conditions are met "minute is zero AND hour is between 9 and 5 AND day is between monday and friday". What I'd like is an 'or' function, so I can say "run monday to friday OR the 8th day of the month". Does such a thing exist? I realise you could add two entries, but with lots of entries it adds something to forget.

  I need IPTables , like everyone else, but I don't use it enough to really keep my knowledge complete and fresh. The setup utility in centos is too basic (doesn't seem to allow me to open up custom ports, just standard ones). Suggestions of a tool or utility to simply iptables management? • Shares Not working

  I'm running a ms server 2012 box acting as a file server, I've set up 4 shares (IT SECURITY PUBLIC HR) to start out with each share has its corresponding group as full permissions to the folder however when I access the server \server\it it says i don't have permissions. Public has NTLM AUTH as its full read/write and i can't even get into that Clearly im doing something wrong but im very new to windows server and im not sure how to start trouble shooting.

• USB ports not working after restoring back

  After restoring this computer with a backup it appears that 2 of the 5 usb ports no longer work. I'm thinking that there is something corrupted on the backup disk causing the failure. When I plug in a usb keyboard to these ports the system will not recognize the new hardware on the 2 bad ports but does recognize new hardware on the remaining three ports. All the ports were working prior to the restoration.

• Using cd to go up multiple directory levels

  I'm dealing with java projects which often result in deeply nested folders (/path/to/project/com/java/lang/whatever, etc) and sometimes want to be able to jump, say, 4 directory levels upwards. Typing cd ../../../.. is a pain, and I don't want to symlink. Is there some flag to cd that lets you go up multiple directory levels (in my head, it would be something like cd -u 4)? Unfortunately I can't find any man page for cd specifically, instead just getting the useless "builtins" page.

• Remote Computer renting (moving my desktop to the cloud)

  I would like to rent a remote computer, like a virtual Vista or Windows 7 desktop, and run everything on it and access it with RDP (fastest). It could be virtual (running on Xen or Hyper-V) and the price needs to be right. Windows 7 to Windows 7 has nice RDP offload feature and doing stuff in the cloud is fast. Anywhere I could rent something like that? I've been using Amazon and CloudLayer, but they are optimized for server versions of Windows.

  When I'm using the iwconfig command on my current wifi interface , wlan0 , the first line I get as output is wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn. When I try to do this when I am connected to other WiFi's, I sometimes get other versions, like IEEE 802.11bg or IEEE 802.11abgn. I want to ask, what's the meaning of this output? if the output is IEEE 802.11bgn then it means that this WiFi supports both the b , g and n standards or it means something else? Thnaks :)

He did it without telling me, so nothing was backed up before the transfer. Now, all of my documents, and my entire itunes library are gone. Please tell me there's something I can do. • How can I force mail clients like Outlook or Thunderbird to load SSL images with invalid certificate?

  Essentially, we only encounter this issue with our testing environments, where we send mail that contains HTTPS links that point to test servers with self-signed SSL certificates. In a browser I can select to accept the certificate. Is there something similar for mail clients like Thunderbird or Outlook that I can use? Currently, we don't see any images in our test mail, which greatly confuses the UAT team.

  I have setup Ubuntu into another computer before. I am making a bootable USB with Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.1.1 to setup. When machine asks me how I want to install Ubuntu on my computer (install Ubuntu inside windows 7, replace windows 7 with Ubuntu, something else) I chose inside windows 7 and clicked continue then here is the trouble machine restart itself every time. It is not suppose to restart.

• What server setup for a small web development company? [closed]

  I co-own a company with a friend of mine and we have decided to buy a new server to support our business (our current server is an Asus EEE Box, working great but too limited :) ). I should mention that we are web developers but occasionally we do small-office sys admin. Thus, 99% of time we work on GNU/Linux (mainly Ubuntu) but from time to time we need to setup a Windows environment to assist some customers (e.g. setup a temporary SQL Server 2008). Our requirements: Low budget: we don't want the cheapest solution out there but we can't afford to spend too much. Budget could be ~1000-1500€ (before VAT) Robustness: we would like to setup a RAID array and maybe have an external disk where we can store backups Virtualization: we need to be able to setup few servers for development. The scenario is something like this (~8 appliances running in parallel): Redmine + GIT server Bacula server FTP server 3-4 virtual appliances that could be set up on demand to test our applications or support a customer. The appliances could be: LAMP, Tomcat+PostgreSQL, SQL Server Support: if something breaks down it shouldn't be too difficult to find a replacement. Now, given the main requirements, there are some doubts we need to clarify: Do you suggest to buy a prepackaged solution (for example a customized Dell PowerEdge T110 or T310) or to assemble the server by ourselves (buy the separate components)? What RAID configuration do you suggest? I was thinking of RAID1 (probably cheaper) or RAID5. should we buy a hardware RAID controller or is it ok to use a software RAID (mdadm)? In case, which controller do you suggest? What processor do you suggest (Intel Xeon, i3, i5, i7, AMD)? How much RAM? (I was thinking at least 8GB, ~1GB per appliance) What virtualization software do you recommend? VMWare seems to be the best choice, but what about XEN or KVM? We don't want to buy licenses at the moment so we would like to consider only free options. What OS do you recommend? We know Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo very well (we would like to use Ubuntu Server), however it seems a lot of people goes for CentOS. Thanks in advance if you can help us with this! • Solr vs 'this' word
