• Deserialization on client side in Domain Service

  I have 2 classes: Person and Contact. Person class has a property named ContactNumber which returns the Contact type, and this property is marked as a DataMember for serialization. I have marked Contact type as a DataContract. On the client side I am able to get the values, but when I try to insert a value and then do submit, I get the following exception: Failed to deserialize change-set. Failed to convert value of type 'Dictionary`2' to type 'Contact' Stack Trace is: at System.Web.Ria.DataServiceSubmitRequest.GetChangeSet(DomainService domainService) at System.Web.Ria.DataServiceSubmitRequest.Invoke(DomainService domainService) at System.Web.Ria.DataService.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) Can anyone give me the solution ?

• passing array of structs from c# to regular dll

  Hi there I have a regular dll with the followign fucntion exported. extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) int FindNearestStuff(double _latitude, double _longitude , LocationStruct * locations[]) LocationStruct is very simple struct LocationStruct { long positionIndex; long item; }; I'm tryign to call it from c# using [DllImport("myclever.dll", CharSet = CharSet.None)] private static extern int FindNearestStuff(double _latitude, double _longitude, ref LocationStruct [] locations); Its all cool and funky and i can step into the dll function from the debugger. Inside the dll the LocationStruct array is populated correctly and all is very good. the problem i have is when it returns back from the dll, the LocationStruct array is not coming back with the data - just empty values... what am i missing? cheers Buzz

• PHP & MySQLi timeout

  Whenever I try to create a mysqli object, as in; $mysqli = new mysqli(host, user, pass, table); ...the page just loads for around a minute, then stops, showing all the content of the page up until that line. info() says that MySQLi (and MySQL if that matters) are enabled, and I can access the MySQL CLI. I'm also working on a local machine, not a remote server. I feel like I've missed something obvious. Can anyone shed some light on it? Edit: just for clarification, I am actually putting real values into the mysqli constructor :)

• How do I detect when a cell's value has changed in Silverlight?

  Hey folks, I'm working in Silverlight, trying to figure out how to set a grid cell font color based on the contents of the cell. I have an ObservableCollection bound to a DataGrid, and my items implement INotifyPropertyChanged so the grid updates as I change the values; it's all working perfectly, including letting me sort items and keep the sorting while I update the underlying items. I know I can use the LoadingRow event to change colors, but the only way I can get the event to fire is by changing the grids datasource, in which case my sorting goes out the window. So, what I really want is a way to either 1) loop the rows in the datagrid, find the cell I need, and change it's color or 2) implement a custom column that I can use to dynamically set the color. The problem is how to actually do either of those things :) All suggestions welcome.

• stored procedure to find value in 2 columns out of 3

  I am putting in the samle date and i am supposed to do something similar what i am asking. I want to run a query that would pull values in any two columns out 3 if it has a 1 or if any one column has a 1 it will return just those results. However it should search all three columns and in any of the three columns where it found value as 1 it should return that result. Can anyone please help me with this. Thanks in advance.   Example: Table: box boxID color 01 red 02 blue 03 green Table: boxHas boxID has 01 apple 01 pear 01 grapes 01 banana 02 lime 02 apple 02 pear 03 chihuahua 03 nachos 03 baby crocodile I want to query on the contents of each box, and return a table with each ID, color, and a column that concatenates the contents of each box, so I use: SELECT box.boxID, box.color, GROUP_CONCAT(DISTINCT boxHas.has SEPARATOR ", ") AS contents FROM box LEFT JOIN boxHas ON box.boxID=boxHas.boxID WHERE boxHas.has IN ('apple','pear') GROUP BY box.boxID ORDER BY box.boxID and I get the following table of results: boxID color contents 01 red apple, pear 02 blue apple, pear My question to you is: why isn't it listing ALL the has values in the contents column? Why is my WHERE statement also cropping my GROUP_CONCAT? The table I thought I was going to get is: boxID color contents 01 red apple, banana, grapes, pear 02 blue apple, lime, pear Although I want to limit my boxID results based upon the WHERE statement, I do not want to limit the contents field for valid boxes. :-/ Help?

The client will POST User class so i want to keep the values in the log. Is there any method in jax-ws to prints out this object as xml? • richfaces keepAlive not working

  I have a mediaOutput tag which, in its createContent attribute, requires the backing bean to be in a certain state. A list of values, which is filled in an init method, must be available. I therefore added a keepAlive tag for the whole backing bean. I now indeed see the backingBean in stead of some (richfaces) proxy bean, but the filled list is null again. How to make this possible? • MySQL storing negative and positive decimals

  Hello, I want to be able to store -11.99 and +11.99 kind of values in mysql db I am thinking of decimals instead of varchar. But reading mysql site I found out that its incompatible with older versions of mysql As a result of the change from string to numeric format for DECIMAL storage, DECIMAL columns no longer store a leading + or - character or leading 0 digits. Before MySQL 5.0.3, if you inserted +0003.1 into a DECIMAL(5,1) column, it was stored as +0003.1. As of MySQL 5.0.3, it is stored as 3.1. For negative numbers, a literal - character is no longer stored. Applications that rely on the older behavior must be modified to account for this change. So what should be the data type, If I have to give up varchar and make it compatible with older versions too?

  I'm trying to get content from external feeds on my Django web site with Universal Feed Parser. I want to have some user error handling, e.g. if the user supplies a URL that is not a feed. When I tried how feedparser responds to faulty input, I was surprised to see that feedparser does not throw any Exceptions at all. E.g. on HTML content, it tries to parse some information from the HTML code, and on non-existing domains, it returns a mostly empty dictionary: {'bozo': 1, 'bozo_exception': URLError(gaierror(-2, 'Name or service not known'),), 'encoding': 'utf-8', 'entries': [], 'feed': {}, 'version': None} Other faulty input manifest themselves in the status_code or the namespaces values in the returned dictionary. So, what's the best approach to have sane error checking without resorting to an endless cascade of if .. elif .. elif ...?

• Strange centering problem in Firefox and IE8

  The navigation bar on my site http://hungryathome.net doesn't center properly on Firefox and IE8 Standards mode. It centers properly in IE7 Compatability mode and in Chrome. What's odd is that setting a Margin on the div (id="navlinks") to 4px or more will make it center properly. Any less will result in it being slightly off-center. I changed the values back and forth in Firebug and it's confusing the heck out of me. Any explanation for why that's happening?

• How can I search for numbers in a varchar column

  I've got a simple nvarchar(25) column in an SQL database table. Most of the time, this field should contain alphanumeric text. However, due to operator error, there are many instances where it contains only a number. Can I do a simple search in SQL to identify these cases? That is, determine which rows in the table contain only digits in this column. As an extension, could I also search for those column values which contain only digits and a space and/or slash. In other languages (eg. Perl, Java) a regular expression would resolve this quickly and easily. But I haven't been able to find the equivalent in SQL.

  I have a history table and I need to select the values from this table in ColumnName, ColumnValue form. I am using SQL Server 2008 and I wasn’t sure if I could use the PIVOT function to accomplish this. • Using LinqSql, stored procedure returns datatype image problem

  Hello! I´ve got a problem when using LINQ to execute a stored procedure and return its values. One of the column that the stored procedure returns is of datatype image and contains a pdf in binary form.(this because the database is deployed on sql server 2000, otherwised i would choose a blob) When including the stored procedure in my linq class its generates that my pdf columns is datatype int in the designer class. I´ve work around the problem and manually changed the datatype in representation of the stored procedure in the designer class. But when adding/removing items in the linq class the designer file re-generates and my changes are lost. Are there any better solution for my problem??

  An action method in my ASP.NET MVC2 application returns a JsonResult object and in my unit test I would like to check that the returned JSON object indeed contains the expected values. I tried this: 1. dynamic json = ((JsonResult)myActionResult).Data; 2. Assert.AreEqual(JsonMessagesHelper.ErrorLevel.ERROR.ToString(), json.ErrorLevel); But I get a RuntimeBinderException "'object' does not contain a definition for 'ErrorLevel'". However, when I place a breakpoint on line 2 and inspect the json dynamic variable (see picture below), it obviously does contain the ErrorLevel string and it has the expected value, so if the runtime binder wasn't playing funny the test would pass. What am I not getting? What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? How can I make the assertion pass?

• MySQL indexes: how do they work?

  I'm a complete newbie with MySQL indexes. I have several MyISAM tables on MySQL 5.0x having utf8 charsets and collations with 100k+ records each. The primary keys are generally integer. Many columns on each table may have duplicate values. I need to quickly count, sum, average, or otherwise perform custom calculations on any number of fields in each table or joined on any number of others. I found this page giving an overview of MySQL index usage: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/mysql-indexes.html, but I'm still not sure I'm using indexes right. Just when I think I've made the perfect index out of a collection of fields I want to calculate against, I get the "index must be under 1000 bytes" error. Can anyone explain how to most efficiently create and use indexes to speed up queries? Caveat: upgrading Mysql is not possible in this case. Using Navicat Light for db administration, but this app isn't required.

• Firefox XUL toolbar with javascript to IE?

  Hi, I have developed a Firefox toolbar in XUL, which uses javascript to manipulate the DOM. I'd like to export this to IE. I know that IE doesn't support XUL, but wonder: (1) is there an easy way to use the existing javascript code for the IE toolbar as well? (2) is there a IE installer that easily creates all necessary registry values for creating a toolbar? I'd be grateful for any help. If anyone can point me to a sample IE toolbar code, with several buttons, drop-down menus and perhaps even a search box, that'll make things much easier as well. Thanks!

When I click a button, I need to check the label, versus all the list items to find the matching one, when it finds that I need to assign the corresponding number. I.e. list: Messi Cristiano Zlatan hidden values of list items: www.messi.com www.cronaldo.com www.ibra.com label: Zlatan script (thought)procces: get label text, search list for matching string, get the value of that string. • Mapping words to numbers with respect to definition

  As part of a larger project, I need to read in text and represent each word as a number. For example, if the program reads in "Every good boy deserves fruit", then I would get a table that converts 'every' to '1742', 'good' to '977513', etc. Now, obviously I can just use a hashing algorithm to get these numbers. However, it would be more useful if words with similar meanings had numerical values close to each other, so that 'good' becomes '6827' and 'great' becomes '6835', etc. As another option, instead of a simple integer representing each number, it would be even better to have a vector made up of multiple numbers, eg (lexical_category, tense, classification, specific_word) where lexical_category is noun/verb/adjective/etc, tense is future/past/present, classification defines a wide set of general topics and specific_word is much the same as described in the previous paragraph. Does any such an algorithm exist? If not, can you give me any tips on how to get started on developing one myself? I code in C++.

  I'm trying to refactor a class and set of subclasses where the M type does extend anything, even though we know it has to be a subclass of a certain type. That type is parametrized and I would like its parametrized types to be available to subclasses that already have values for M. Is there any way to define this class without having to include the redundant K and V generic types in the parameter list. I'd like to be able to have the compiler infer them from whatever M is mapped to by subclasses. public abstract class NewParametrized<K, V, M extends SomeParametrized<K, V>> { public void someMethodThatTakesKAndV(K k1, V v1) { } } In other words, I'd like the class declaration to look something like: public class NewParametrized<M extends SomeParametrized<K, V>> { And K and V's types would be inferred from the definition of M.
