Tried to pass a length to it, or FILE type, did not help. • Using a macro for fstream file input as part of a class

  I have a class that processes a file, and as part of the constructor with one argument I want to input a file using fstream. I basically want it do something like this class someClass{ public: someClass(char * FILENAME) { fstream fileToProcess; fileToProcess.open(<FILENAME>, fstream::in | fstream::out | fstream::app); } }; I want to pass the filename in as an argument to the class constructor, and then the class someClass will access it with fstream.

• Linux Software Raid runs checkarray on the First Sunday of the Month? Why?

  It looks like Debian has a default to run checkarray on the first Sunday of the month. This causes massive performance problems and heavy disk usage for 12 hours on my 2TB mirror. Doing this "just in case" is bizzare to me. Discovering data out of sync between the two disks without quorum would be a failure anyway. This massive checking could only tell me that I have an unrecoverable drive failure and corrupt data. Which is nice, but not all that helpful. Is it necessary? Given I have no disk errors and no reason to believe my disks have failed, why is this check necessary?   Ever since we updated from SP1 RU4 to SP2 RU4 we have noticed that our BES devices will simply stop receiving email. This has occurred at least 5 times in the past few weeks. Today, while speaking with RIM support (a T3 contract), they said that they have reports of sporadic connectivity issues from some BES users. This has been occurring with Exchange 2010 SP2 RU4, and have no public information to give us. We were able to temporarily get things running by doing any or all of the following Restart the BES server Recreate the MAPI profile (deleted the keys in the registry) Restart the CAS servers Wait it out (2 hours) What other options should I take to resolve this issue?

  I am manage a group of VM and I need to setup all vm create a ssh tunnel to a specific host A. One way to do this is append public key of each VM to host's authorized_keys, but I guess I have to do the append each time i create a VM. So I am trying to config host A to accept pem or private key login without passowrd, just like EC2, client can use "ssh -i PEM" to login host A. But I have tried in vain for hours. I create a rsa public/private key and let VM use the private key to login, no matter what I do, host a still ask for password. Is there anything I missed ? Thanks.

  Hi I would like to zip a bunch of files (.exe and .dll) before I overwrite them with the new build. Is there a simple way to zip files without using some sort of dll? Just creating a folder with the build number / date time stamp will also work great. How do I pass parameters from the cruise control build process into my Powershell script that will do the work then? Is this a sustainable way to do things? Thanks

• Cloning single disk drive to multiple drives simultaneously

  I am looking for a way to clone single disk drive to more than one disk drive at the same time. I have prepared system images on 1TB disks, and it takes almost 2 hours to clone one disk to another, and then it goes up exponentially, in order to have say 30 disks cloned. If it was possible to clone one disk to more than single target, it would simplify whole procedure a lot. Also, is there something that prevents this kind of operation? I mean, is there some special reason why every disk cloning software that I know about supports only single target drive? Thanks!

  I've got an late 2009 macbook pro 13' and yesterday I replaced the native hd (new hd: Hitachi; same form factor). I choosed "Restore from Time Machine" in the options menu on the snow leopard install discs and waited several hours to complete. After an reboot the mac shows up a white screen with apple logo and tiny loading animation. Nothing happens. After another restart; the same. Now I cant boot from CD using the C-Key and I have no idea how to fix that problem.

I am fluent in c#, but have never worked with Linux. Should I take the time to learn Gnu C++ to do this, or install Mono? • some keyboard keys not working properly

  I'm using windows 7. All of a sudden, a couple of hours ago, this happened: My keyboard number keys [above the letters] stopped working properly, both as numbers and as symbols. Only 5 and 6 are functional. Also, I've noticed that the End key isn't working either, and perhaps a couple more from that group. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with those evil Sticky Keys/Filter Keys/ whatever those ease of access things are, BUT I've turned off all the ease of access keyboard options and nothing has changed. Is it possible that something is still turned on while I unchecked it? Are the on/off checkboxes to control WHEN it happens or IF it happens? I also tried rebooting and uninstalling/reinstalling keyboard from device manager, to no avail. It's certainly a software issue and not a hardware issue, as I've tried another keyboard and the problem persists. And, predictably enough, it's annoying. Any ideas?

• Can I replace my notebook's fan without replacing the heat sink?

  My laptop (Acer Travelmate 8204) has started making a grinding noise, which seems to be coming from the fan (not the hard drive). Some articles online mention replacing the fan, but others imply that one should replace both the fan and the heat sink. Does it make sense to replace the fan only? (addendum: does this procedure really take 3 hours for a noob, as this video implies? UPDATE: the fan certainly seems to be on the "top" layer when I open my laptop but some parts of it extend under other layers) Some additional info in response to comments: I have run MS scandisk on the hard drive a few times since the grinding started. It usually reports finding something or other but the computer's behavior doesn't change I'm pretty sure it's the fan based on where the noise is coming from. I employed the cardboard tube trick from the PC World article.
