  We have 2 identical database tables on our dev server. In both is a table that holds an X509Certificate2 data in one of its fields. When I grab the cert along with the password that I've been using all along, it works over the first database just fine. I run the same code though over the 2nd database and get this error and I don't get why if the setup is exactly the same and the database is also on this server. So I'm not sure why when I switch my connection string to talk to Database2, even though it's setup the same and the code I'm running over it is the same, it complains. The way I worked around this was to do a StreamReader.ReadToEnd, then do Regex.Replace on the result of that to yank out the script block, before passing the modified string to XmlReader.Create(). Feels like a hack. Has anyone got a better approach? I don't like this because I have to read in a 125k string into memory. Is it valid rss to include "complex content" like that - a script block inside an element?

• ActionScript/Flex ArrayCollection of Number objects to Java Collection<Long> using BlazeDS

  Hello, I am using Flex 3 and make a call through a RemoteObject to a Java 1.6 method and exposed with BlazeDS and Spring 2.5.5 Integration over a SecureAMFChannel. I worked around this issue by looping through the collection using Object instead, checking to see if it is an Integer, cast it to one, then do a .longValue() on it then add it to a temp ArraList. Yuk. The big problem is my application is supposed to handle records in the billions from a DB and the id will overflow the 2.147 billion limit of an integer. I would love to have BlazeDS or the JavaAdapter in it, translate the ActionScript Number to a Long as specified in the method. I hate that even though I use the generic the underlying element type of the collection is an Integer. If this was straight Java, it wouldn't compile. Any ideas are appreciated. Solutions are even better! :)

• Sorting Android ListView

  I'm only starting with Android dev, and while the Milestone is a nice device Java is not my natural language and I'm struggling with both the Google docs on Android SDK, Eclipse and Java itself. Anyway... I'm writing a microblog client for Android to go along with my Windows client (MahTweets). At the moment I've got Tweets coming and going without fail, the problem is with the UI. • Linux - serial port read returning EAGAIN...

  Hello all! I am having some trouble reading some data from a serial port I opened the following way. I've used this instance of code plenty of times and all worked fine, but now, for some reason that I cant figure out, I am completely unable to read anything from the serial port. But... when I do a read afterwards, I get a "Resource Temporarily Unavailable" error from errno. I tested select to see when the file descriptor had something t read... but it always times out! I read data like this: ret = read(hCom, rxchar, n); and I always get an EAGAIN and I have no idea why. All help would be appreciated. Cheers

• Problem running android HelloTabWidget example - NullPointerException on addTab()

  I've tried the Tab Layout example, and I've also fixed the few typos in the example (and added all the activities to the manifest). However, when I run it on the emulator I get a NullPointerException on the first line that says tabHost.addTab(spec); So my question, of course, is. What is wrong with the example that would cause this exception? I'm using Eclipse Galileo and set the target package as Android 1.5. • Setting up a VPN connection to Amazon VPC - routing

  I am having some real issues setting up a VPN between out office and AWS VPC. The "tunnels" appear to be up, however I don't know if they are configured correctly. The device I am using is a Netgear VPN Firewall - FVS336GV2 If you see in the attached config downloaded from VPC (#3 Tunnel Interface Configuration), it gives me some "inside" addresses for the tunnel. When setting up the IPsec tunnels do I use the inside tunnel IP's (e.g. 169.254.254.2/30) or do I use my internal network subnet (10.1.1.0/24) I have tried both, when I tried the local network (10.1.1.x) the tracert stops at the router. When I tried with the "inside" ips, the tracert to the amazon VPC (10.0.0.x) goes out over the internet. this all leads me to the next question, for this router, how do I set up stage #4, the static next hop? What are these seemingly random "inside" addresses and where did amazon generate them from? 169.254.254.x seems odd? With a device like this, is the VPN behind the firewall? I have tweaked any IP addresses below so that they are not "real". I am fully aware, this is probably badly worded. Please if there is any further info/screenshots that will help, let me know. The local IPs to use when setting up the tunnels where indeed my network subnets. Which further confuses me over what these "inside" IP addresses are for. The problem is, results are not consistent what so ever. I can "sometimes" ping, I can "sometimes" RDP using the VPN. Sometimes, Tunnel 1 or Tunnel 2 can be up or down. When I came back into work today, Tunnel 1 was down, so I deleted it and re-created it from scratch. Now I cant ping anything, but Amazon AND the router are telling me tunnel 1/2 are fine. I guess the router/vpn hardware I have just isnt up to the job..... EDIT #2 Now Tunnel 1 is up, Tunnel 2 is down (I didn't change any settings) and I can ping/rdp again.   I'm working on a Play 2.2 application, and things have gone a bit south on me since I've tried adding my DB layer. Below are my build.sbt dependencies. However, I didn't find any solution for this problem I'm having: I have a UITableView with 2 sections, and no rows when the app is launched for the first time. The user can fill the sections later on as he wishes (the content is not relevant here). The UITableView looks good when filled with rows, but looks pretty ugly when there is none (the 2 header sections are stuck together with no white space in between). That is why I'd like to add a nice "No row" view in between when there is no row.   Hi, i'm getting a very strange error while opening one of the pages in my web app. The application is built on Seam 2.2 and is using JSF (RichFaces) as a view technology. I run it on Tomcat 6. The error i'm describing doesn't occur on my machine (Mac OS X), but it does on my client's dev machines (Windows) and on the server (Linux Debian). I'm sure i'm running the same version on each system and i have tried connecting to the same database... Anybody has any ideas about how could i get closer to the real cause?

• Installing Fabric On Windows (Error No Module Called Readline)

  I'm trying to use the Fabric 0.1.1 deploy tool (http://docs.fabfile.org/) on Windows and we're running into an issue with the readline module. I've been through various threads but can't seem to solve the issue. It's important because we can't deploy applications from Windows based machines. • postfix relaying all mail through office365 problems

  This is a rather long question with a long list of things tried and travails so please bear with me. The summary is this. I am able to relay email from ubuntu through office365 using postfix; the configuration works. It only works as one of the users; more specifically the user who authenticates against office365 is the only valid "from" More details follow. I have a machine in Amazon's cloud on which I run a bunch of jobs and would like to have statuses mailed over to me. I use office365 at work so I want to relay mail through office365. I'm most familiar with postfix so I used that as the MTA. Configuration is ubuntu 12.04LTS; I've installed postfix and mail-utils. For this example, let me say my company is "company.com" and the machine in question (through an elastic IP and a DNS entry) is called "plaything.company.com". hostname is set to "plaything.company.com", so is /etc/mailname On plaything, I have the following users registered alpha, bravo, and charlie. Then, I made the following sender_canonical [email protected] [email protected] I created a sasl_passwd file that reads: smtp.office365.com [email protected]:123456password123456 let's just say that the password for [email protected] is 1234...456 With all this setup, login as alpha and mail [email protected] Cc: Subject: test test and the whole thing works wonderfully. email gets sent off by postfix, TLS works like a champ, authenticates as daemon@... and [email protected] in Office365 gets an email message. The issue comes up when logged in as bravo to the machine. sender is [email protected] and office365 says: status=bounced (host smtp.office365.com[132.245.12.25] said: 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender (in reply to end of DATA command)) this is because I'm trying to send mail as bravo@... and authenticating with office365 as daemon@.... The reason it works with alpha@... is because in office365, I setup [email protected] as having another email address of [email protected]. In Postfix Relay to Office365, Miles Erickson answers the question thusly: Don't send mail to Office365 as a user from your Office365-hosted e-mail domain. Use a subdomain instead, e.g. [email protected] instead of [email protected]. It wouldn't hurt to set up an SPF record for services.mydomain.com or whatever you decide to use. Don't authenticate against mail.messaging.microsoft.com as an Office365 user. Just connect on port 25 and deliver the mail to your domain as any foreign SMTP agent would do. OK, I've done #1, I have those records on DNS but for the most part they are not relevant once Office365 recognizes that I own the domain. Here are those records: CNAME records: - msoid.plaything.company.com - autodiscover.plaything.company.com MX record: - plaything.company.com (plaything-company-com.mail.protection.outlook.com) TXT record: - plaything.company.com (v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all) I've tried #2 but no matter what I do, office365 just blows away the connection with "not authenticated". I can try even a simple telnet to port 25 and attempt to send and it doesn't work. 250 BY2PR01CA007.outlook.office365.com Hello [54.221.245.236] 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated Connection closed by foreign host. Is there someone out there who has this kind of a configuration working where multiple users on a linux machine are able to relay mail using postfix through office365? • Importing a large dataset into a database

  I'm a beginning programmer in the relevant areas to this question, so if possible, it'd be helpful to avoid assuming I know a lot already. I'm trying to import the OpenLibrary dataset into a local Postgres database. After it's imported, I plan to use it as a starting seed for a Ruby on Rails application that will include information on books. The OpenLibrary datasets are available here, in a modified JSON format: http://openlibrary.org/dev/docs/jsondump I only need very basic information for my application, much less than what is provided in the dumps. I'm only trying to get out book titles, author names, and relationships between books and authors. Below are two typical entries from their dataset, the first for an author, and the second for a book (they seem to have an entry for each edition of a book). OpenLibrary does not provide any tools for this themselves, they provide a simple unoptimized Python script for reading in sample data (which unlike the actual dumps comes in pure JSON format), but they estimate if that was modified for use on their actual data it would take 2 months (!) to finish loading the data. How can I read this into the database? I assume I'll need to write a program to do this. What language and any guidance on how I should do it to finish in a reasonable amount of time? The only scripting language I have any experience with is Ruby.

• Save gcc compile status to a text file for Java

  I'm making a C Assessment Program through Java, which has a bunch of programming questions for C, and it lets the user input an answer in the form of C code, and then press a "Compile" button, which is linked to a bat file that runs the user input code through gcc. I've got the input and compiling working, but I need to get the output from the compiler and get that to print textarea within the program. Also, how would I get the output of the compiler if the compile fails because of an error? The way I've got it in my batch file at the moment doesn't put anything in a text file if it fails.

Feels like a hack. Has anyone got a better approach? I don't like this because I have to read in a 125k string into memory. Is it valid rss to include "complex content" like that - a script block inside an element? Thanks.

• Is this a good way to do a game loop for an iPhone game?

  Hi all, I'm new to iPhone dev, but trying to build a 2D game. I was following a book, but the game loop it created basically said: function gameLoop update() render() sleep(1/30th second) gameLoop The reasoning was that this would run at 30fps. However, this seemed a little mental, because if my frame took 1/30th second, then it would run at 15fps (since it'll spend as much time sleeping as updating). So, I did some digging and found the CADisplayLink class which would sync calls to my gameLoop function to the refresh rate (or a fraction of it). I can't find many samples of it, so I'm posting here for a code review :-) It seems to work as expected, and it includes passing the elapsed (frame) time into the Update method so my logic can be framerate-independant (however I can't actually find in the docs what CADisplayLink would do if my frame took more than its allowed time to run - I'm hoping it just does its best to catch up, and doesn't crash!). // // GameAppDelegate.m // // Created by Danny Tuppeny on 10/03/2010. // Copyright Danny Tuppeny 2010. • I keep on getting "save operation failure" after any change on my XCode Data Model

  I started using Core Data for iPhone development. I started out by creating a very simple entity (called Evaluation) with just one string property (called evaluationTopic). I had following code for inserting a fresh string: - (void)insertNewObject { // Create a new instance of the entity managed by the fetched results controller. NSError *error; if (![context save:&error]) { // Handle the error... } [self.tableView reloadData]; } This worked perfectly fine and by pushing the +button a new "My Repeating String" would be added to the table view and be in persistent store. I then pressed "Design - Add Model Version" in XCode. I added three entities to the existing entity and also added new properties to the existing "Evaluation" entity. Then, I created new files off the entities by pressing "File - New File - Managed Object Classes" and created a new .h and .m file for my four entities, including the "Evaluation" entity with Evaluation.h and Evaluation.m. Now I changed the model version by setting "Design - Data Model - Set Current Version". After having done all this, I changed my insertMethod: - (void)insertNewObject { // Create a new instance of the entity managed by the fetched results controller. NSManagedObjectContext *context = [fetchedResultsController managedObjectContext]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [[fetchedResultsController fetchRequest] entity]; Evaluation *evaluation = (Evaluation *) [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:[entity name] inManagedObjectContext:context]; // If appropriate, configure the new managed object. [evaluation setValue:@"My even new string" forKey:@"evaluationSpeechTopic"]; // Save the context. Every time I want to add a row the simulator crashes and I get the following: "NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'This NSPersistentStoreCoordinator has no persistent stores. It cannot perform a save operation.'" I had this error before I knew about creating new version after changing anything on the datamodel, but why is this still coming up? Do I need to do any mapping (even though I just added entities and properties that did not exist before?). In the Apple Dev tutorial it sounds very easy but I have been struggling with this for long time, never worked after changing model version.

• dojo/dijit ContentPane setting content

  I am trying append some XML retrieved via a dojo.XHRGet to a dijit.layout.ContentPane. Everything works ok in Firefox (3.6) but in Chrome, I only get back 'undefined' in the particular ContentPane. Is there a better way to handle the return data from the request? Like I said before, works in FireFox 3.6. I tried it on Safari and I got the same "undefined" so it seems to be related to Webkit.

• iPhone SDK 3/4 App will not run on a iPhone 2.x device even with deployment target set to 2.0!

  Ok... I know about the difference between the base/active SDKs and the deployment target. I have my base SDK set at 4.0 and the deployment target set at 2.0. I am not using any APIs post 2.x, conditional or otherwise. Since I can't debug on a 2.x device, after building it, I use the iPhone Configuration Utility to install the app on the device, which it does just fine. Problem is, it doesn't run! I just get a blank screen. The main window never comes up! Now before you ask... I had this same problem with the iPhone SDK 3.x. I upgraded to the 4.x hoping it would be solved. It wasn't. Yes the provisioning profile is installed. (Couldn't install the app if it wasn't.) This same compiled app works fine on 3.x devices. Same with 4.x devices. Just not 2.x devices. Again, no I am not using any post-2.x SDKs. To prove this I created a brand-new, window-based app from the 'New Project' dialog and the only changes I made was the background color of the window (to prove the XIB loaded) and I set the deployment target to 2.0 (It's still compiled against the 4.x SDK though.) Again, it runs fine on 3.x or 4.x devices, but just a black, blank screen on 2.x devices. I've tried this on three separate 2.x devices included one freshly restored. I've used three separate dev machines (MacBook Pro with the 3.x SDK, MacBook Pro with the 4.x SDK and a Mac Pro with the 3.x SDK.) Same result every time. I am stumped. The fact that even an unmodified project doesn't run really has me confused. Could it be the XIB file? Did they change the format from 2.x to something newer in the 3.x SDK? If so, how do I set it back to 2.x. (Again, this is just a complete guess.) But I'm really stumped! Mark
