• How can I block based on URL (from address bar) in a safari extension

  I'm trying to write an extension that will block access to (configurable) list of URLs if they are accessed more than N times per hour. From what I understand, I need to have a start script pass a "should I load this" message to a global HTML page (who can access the settings object to get the list of URLs), who will give a thumbs up/thumbs down message back to the start script to deny/allow loading. That works out fine for me, but when I use the usual beforeLoad/canLoad handlers, I get messages for all the sub-items that need to be loaded (images/etc..), which screws up the #accesses/hour limit I'm trying to make. Is there a way to synchronously pass messages back and forth between the two sandboxes so I can tell the global HTML page, "this is the URL in the window bar and the timestamp for when this request came in", so I can limit duplicate requests? • Entity Framework Performance Problem

  I'm hoping that someone can help me understand how to overcome a performance problem I'm running into with the latest version of the Entity Framework. In my test, I created my model from a database consisting of around 80 tables. The problem that I'm running into is that the cost of the very first query I run on a thread is very expensive. If I run without pre-compiling views the first query takes anywhere from 5800 to 6600 milliseconds. If I pre-compile the views (see this article) I can get the initial query cost down to about 2800 to 3200 milliseconds. 3 seconds for each request is still unacceptable for my needs. Subsequent queries are very fast. Can you please help me understand how to eliminate the poor performance of the initial query? I'm using the version of entity framework that ships with Visual Studio 2010 RC.

• How do I stop displaying a J2ME MIDP application, just before destroying it?

  I have a J2ME application where the user has the option to dial a phone number from within the application. This should be the last thing the user does with the app, so it should stop displaying anything. My current code: public void callAndExit() { // use a platform-specific request to dial MyMidletThingummy.getInstance().platformRequest( "tel:" + number ); notifyDestroyed(); } The call works just fine, uses the phone's native way of calling, etc. The problem is that, just after the call completes (whenever the user hangs up), my application displays for a split second before being destroyed. Is there something I can do so that I stop displaying the MIDlet (and, say, show the phone's home screen or whatever else it would rather display), then dial out?

  I have some polygon data saved in a PostGIS database with projection SRID 27700. geom = models.MultiPolygonField(srid=27700) I want to display the shapes on OpenStreetMap, i.e. with SRID 900913 (I think?). So, two questions: How do I change the code below to output with the right SRID for OpenStreetMap? • How to make a DropDownList control display some items in bold ASP.Net

  I'm working with a custom DropDownList control in ASP.Net and there's been a request to display certain items in the list with a bold typeface (NOTE - the control inherits from CompositeDataBoundControl so it can be data bound... not DropDownListBox). The control is bound to a table and there's a column in the table named IsUsed - if this is set to true, the corresponding item in the list should be rendered bold. (It should be noted here that this will only ever be viewed in FireFox.) My experience is all in the middle \ backend tiers so the presentation layer is very new to me - can someone point me in the right direction? My initial thought was that somewhere in the custom control I would have access to all the rows that are returned from the data source which I could cycle through etc but I'm not sure if that's possible... There's also RenderContents which I can override... looks interesting! Any help appreciated - cheers. James

• iOS 5 Hanging on ASIHTTPRequests

  So I have an app that runs on iOS 3.2 - 4.x. It uses ASIHTTPRequest to make all the REST API calls. Ever since my team and I upgraded three of our iPhone 4's to iOS 5, The app will hang and show the ActivityIndicator indefinitely. I looked at the server logs and the requests aren't hitting the server. However, if I press the iPhone home button then open the app again, the request will go through and I will receive the data, business as normal. For some reason the requests are never triggered until I reopen the app. Another weird tidbit, the app works in Xcode 4.2 and the iPhone simulator. The app also works on an iPad2 with iOS 5 (the app is iPhone only). Would this be an ASIHTTPRequest issue? Not too sure how to pinpoint the issue since there is no crash and only happens on the phone. Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks.

• iPhone: NSHTTPCookie is not saved across app restarts

  In my iPhone app, I want to be able to reuse the same server-side session when my app restarts. A session on the server is identified by a cookie, which is sent on each request. When I restart the app, that cookie is gone and I can't use the same session anymore. What I noticed when I used the NSHTTPCookieStorage to look up the cookie I got from the server, is that [cookie isSessionOnly] returns YES. I get the impression that this is why cookies are not saved across restarts of my app. What would I have to do to make my cookie NOT session only? What HTTP headers do I have to send from the server?

  Hi all, I'm using jQuery to post HTTP requests to my PHP page (Apache/Linux, if that matters). I carefully validate on the client so that empty requests are not sent. However on occasions, I'd get an empty request like this: - $_POST collection empty ($_GET collection also empty); - Content-Length is nonzero (a number below 100, consistent with a valid POST from my script) - Content-Type properly application/x-www-form-urlencoded - reading from php://input yields an empty string It's as if $_POST is somehow eaten on the way. I checked the code very carefully - I don't do anything to the contents of $_POST. Any ideas, please?

• [Ruby] Why do I have to URI.encode even safe characters for Net::HTTP requests?

  I was trying to send a GET request to Twitter (user ID replaced for privacy reasons) using Net::HTTP: url = URI.parse("http://api.twitter.com/1/friends/ids.json?user_id=12345") resp = Net::HTTP.get_response(url) this throws an exception in Net::HTTP: NoMethodError: undefined method empty?' for #<URI::HTTP:0x59f5c04> from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:1470:ininitialize' just by coincidence, I stumbled upon a similar code snippet, which used URI.encode prior to URI.parse, so I copied that and tried again: url = URI.parse(URI.encode("http://api.twitter.com/1/friends/ids.json?user_id=12345")) resp = Net::HTTP.get_response(url) now it works fine, but why? There are no reserved characters that need escaping in the URL I mentioned, so why do I have to call URI.encode for get_response to succeed?

• Calculation of charged traffic in GPRS network

  I am working with a distributed application communicating over GPRS. I use UDP packets to send business data and ICMP pings to verify connectivity. And now I have a problem with calculating a traffic for which I will be charged by the provider. I have to consider following factors: UDP payload: that is obvious. UDP overhead: UDP header + IP header = 8 + 20 bytes. ICMP echo request without data: IP header + ICMP payload = 28 bytes. ICMP echo reply: as in 3. Above means that for evey data packet I am charged for payload + 28 bytes and for every ping 56 bytes. Am I right or I am missing/misunderstanding something?

  For a new CMS i've developed a Pages module that allows me to manage the site's tree structure. Each page is reachable from the url http://www.example.com/pageslug/ where pageslug identifies the page being called. What I want to achieve now is a route that allows me to route all incoming requests to a single PagesController unless it's a request to an existing controller (like images for example). It's easy enough to catch all requests to the Pages Controller but how to exclude existing controllers? This is my module bootstrap.   We're interested in moving from a source control system that supports the concept of shared or linked files. A shared file means: a file modified in one project, is automatically updated changed in every other project that uses that same file. It does this without a developer having to request it, reverse-integrate it, ask for it, or even want it. We're trying to see if any other commonly used source-control systems can meet our needs, and include linked or shared files. My limited research shows that: Team Foundation Server doesn't support sharing files Subversion doesn't support sharing files (including Externals) CVS doesn't support sharing files (including Modules) Anything else? (besides our current source control product, obviously) References Subversion and shared files across repositories/projects? How to share files between CVS projects? Will TFS ever support shared files for projects under source control?

• Why are error pages ignored in RESTEasy web service running on Tomcat?

  I'm developing a REST-ful web service using RESTEasy deployed on Tomcat. I've configured an error page which takes the exception's message and generates an XML based on it when any exception occurs during the request. This works fine for any application generated exceptions. However, if client sends an invalid XML which cannot be unmarshalled correctly, an javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException is thrown and Tomcat's default error page is used instead of mine. I have configured my error page to the error-code 500 in web.xml. Is using error pages the correct way to handle errors when using RESTEasy or is there an alternative way?

• Cstom handler on IIS 7.5 doesn't work

  Hi, I am new to IIS 7.5. I have an application in asp.net 2.0, which has its own custom URL rewriting mechanism. All the requests on the browser with .htm will be mapped to .aspx. It works fine on IIS 6, but somehow I could not get it working on IIS 7.5. On IIS 6, I go to Application PropertiesConfigurationMappings and add a new extension .htm with the executable as aspnet_isapi.dll On IIS 7.5 i added a handler mapping, with path as .htm and executable as aspnet_ispai.dll But the request does not even come to global.asax. If i try the URL with .aspx extension, pages load properly. Any idea how to set up custom mappings in iis 7.5?

  I'm trying to save the site that a user came from when they sign up. Right now I have a before_filter in my ApplicationController: before_filter :save_referer def save_referer unless is_logged_in? session['referer'] = request.env["HTTP_REFERER"] unless session['referer'] end end Then when a user is created, it checks this session variable and sets it to nil. Sometimes this does not work and I'm worried there might be some unintended things happening with using session like this. Does anyone have a better way? Or some input perhaps? EDIT: This is the logic I am using to save the referer: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save_with(session[:referer]) .... end User def save_with(referer) self.referer = referer unless referer == "null" self.save end Is there any reason why this should not work?

• Excel Object in asp.net

  Hi I have a serious issue. I am using excel object for opening the excel file it works fine i my PC. when i make application as a website and running the page and uploading it gives the error "'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Work\SABRE MSO Mapping Request Template.xlsx' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted. ". I think it taking server path...but i want to open client excel file before saving the file to the server. Plz help.

• Google App Engine - Calling getSession().invalidate(); causes app engine to act weird.

  When I call hreq.getSession().invalidate(); app engine slows down tremendously. I looked at appstats and saw that on a page where no database calls are made, it was calling memcache.get and datastore.get 23 times each. The stack trace of these calls showed that it was being called from getSession(). This only happens on the production server. Every time I make a request to a page, it makes a bunch of memcache and datastore calls. This slow down goes away though when i restart my browser. When I changed the code to simply set the isLoggedIn property of the session to false, rather than calling hreq.getSession().invalidate();, everything was fine. As a test, I didn't invalidate my session, but I changed the value of my browser's session cookie, and the app engine exhibited the same behavior. Is this a bug with the app engine?

• How to handle a C# console application terminating?

  If I have a console application, is there any way I can handle the following: Ctrl-C (I know the answer to this. Using Console.TreatControlCAsInput and Console.CancelKeyPress) Session termination, such as when someone logs off Process exit, such as when someone uses the task manager to close the application. I know that if I was writing a unix application, I would handle various signals to catch the request to close (SIGTERM from memory), but I also know I need to handle these messages pretty quickly and exit before the system does a kill -9 (SIGKILL). But for a C# console application, I'm not sure how to do this.
