• shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation not working for detail view

  I am using Xcode's SplitView template as the base for my project and I only want to accept Landscape mode. I have implemented the method in the RootViewController and DetailViewController: - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { switch (interfaceOrientation) { case UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft: return YES; } return NO; } However what happens is the app loads with in Landscape mode with the tableview on the left but the detail view is black / blank. How do I get the detailview to load properly and do I need to implement this method is all view controllers or just the root one?

  Hi, I am wanting to insert a datetime into a MySql data base using Java and a prepared statement: Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); PreparedStatement stmnt = db.PreparedStatement("INSERT INTO Run " + "(Time) VALUE (?) "); stmnt.setDate(1, new java.sql.Date(cal.getTime())); stmnt.executeQuery(); NOTE: thre is currently an error - cannot find symbol (java.sql.Date) line 4 here db is an instance of a sort of wrapper class that exposes what I need from java.sql - its just getting a prepared statement from my connection object here. Time (the column) is a date time in my database, and I can only see sedDate and setTime method but I want to store both - also my code does not work anyway ;-) if anyone could give me some pointers on inserting a combined date time (current time would be a great help as that's my first goal) into a MySql DB using a prepared statement I would be very grateful.   I looked already and could't find anyting good. So a question is, are there any good web frameworks that would allow to easily develop GUI for the majority of high end phones? By this I mean It would have to work the same on majority of high end phones (forget the low cost ones) It would have to simplify the development and hide the ugly details from developer Clear design and good documentation. Also some stability on the market. The focus in on good looking and easy to make GUI. Javascript is only a plus. So basically I am looking for something like jQuery or maybe ExtJS for phone development. EDIT: It would be a big plus if it could be consumed in Delphi EDIT 2: If it was not clear, I am looking for a web base solution. So the target is HTML output and not native code.

• Use LINQ to insert data from dataset to SQL

  Let's say I have a dataset in an ASP.NET website (.NET 3.5) with 5 tables, each has roughly 30,000 rows and an average of 12 columns. I want to insert all of the data from the dataset into 5 very-similar-but-not-quite-identical tables in SQL Server 2008. I also want to use LINQ (personal preference - trying to learn something new). Is it as simple as iterating through the dataset and, for each row, creating a new instance of the associated class, initializing its data with the dataset's row, adding it to the data model, and then doing one giant SubmitChanges at the end? Are there better ways of doing this with LINQ? Or is this the de-facto standard?

  Hi, We have a Web asp.net application running in the framework 2.0 and hosted in an IIS 6 server, and the OS is windows server 2003. The web application is suing a client certificate to be authenticated by a web service. We have impersonalized the application pool with de user “Network Service”. The problem is when we have to access to the private key of the certificate that is stored in the machine key/my storage. The user Network Service cannot access the key. We have given privileges to the Network Service user using the winhttpcertcfg.exe tool, however the result is the same. When we impersonalize the application pool with the local administrator the result is successfully. Therefore we think that the problem is the privileges of the user. If someone could give us some information about, we would be gratefully. Thanks in advance

I have a user control, with a grid control contained in it. public Unit Width { get { return CustomerGrid.Width; } set { CustomerGrid.Width = value; } } I expose the width property and when I set it in the designer it works at run-time but not design time. What class do I inherit from or method to override to get my controls to function at design time. Note I tried to inherit from WebControl but got the message Make sure that the class defined in this code file matches the 'inherits' attribute, and that it extends the correct base class

• Ruby on Rails Increment Counter in Model

  I'm attempting to increment a counter in my User table from another model. class Count < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user after_create :update_count def update_count user = User.find(self.user_id) user.increment(:count) end end So when count is created the goal would be to increment a counter column for that user. Currently it refuses to get the user after creation and I get a nil error. I'm using devise for my Users Is this the right (best practice) place to do it? I had it working in the controllers, but wanted to clean it up. I'm very inexperienced with Model callbacks.

Instead it uses its own collection classes, which inherit from a custom generic collection base class, the declaration of which is public abstract class CollectionBase<T> : IEnumerable<T> The collections in my POSTed action method are all non-null, but contain no elements. Can anyone advise?

• jquery selection with .not()

  Hello, I have some troubles with jQuery. I have a set of Divs with .square classes. Only one of them is supposed to have an .active class. This .active class may be activated/de-activated onClick. Here is my code : jQuery().ready(function() { $(".square").not(".active").click(function() { //initialize $('.square').removeClass('active'); //activation $(this).addClass('active'); // some action here... }); $('.square.active').click(function() { $(this).removeClass('active'); }); }); My problem is that the first function si called, even if I click on an active .square, as if the selector was not working. • how can I open eclipse and see the project view I last looked at?

  I'm completely mystified. I do not understand why Eclipse does not show me my list of projects! And all the answers I've seen to similar questions do not mention any 'go here and do that' type of answers. I tried 'Import/General/Existing Projects into Workspace/browse-to...' but that told me the project was already in the workspace. But I KNEW THAT! The project menu does not have an 'open project' option!!!! There is no 'open workspace' option. How do people open Eclipse and 'resume working'??? What is the single, dependable, repeatable option for opening the 'project tree' to show my project? [or tell me my expectations that Java people are smarter are way off base!] Thanks, Kimball

• How to create custom CSS "on the fly" based on account settings in a Django site?

  So I'm writing a Django based website that allows users select a color scheme through an administration interface. I already have middleware/context processors that links the current request (based on domain) to the account. My question is how to dynamically serve the CSS with the account's custom color scheme. I see two options: Add a CSS block to the base template that overrides the styles w/variables passed in through a context processors. Use a custom URL (e.g. "/static/dynamic/css//styles.css") that gets routed to a view that grabs all the necessary values and creates the css file. I'm content with either option, but was wondering if anyone else out there has dealt with similar problems and could give some insight as to "Best Practices".

  I would like to know if the app icon on the iPhone can be slightly different than the one shown in a large version in Apple's App Store. • adding a UIScrollView as a superview of 2 UITextview made no view can be scrolled

  hi i have 2 textview in a viewcontroller. the 1st textview is not editable, but the 2nd is editable. i want to make both of them scroll in the same position and size when the keyboard is appear. I think i have to use UIScrollView as base of both of textview. And then i add the UIScrollView in xib (bot of textview are made in xib too). and this is the picture if this hierarchy : in the viewDidLoad method, i add this code : - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [scrollTextView addSubview:lineNumberTextView]; [scrollTextView addSubview:_codeTextView]; [lineNumberTextView bringSubviewToFront:scrollTextView]; [_codeTextView bringSubviewToFront:scrollTextView]; } but after that i can't scroll anything. • is it safe to refactor my django models?

  How do you know if you "Test Fixture" is right-sized. And by "Test Fixture" I mean a class with a bunch of tests in it. One thing that I've always noticed with my test fixtures is that they get to be kind of verbose; seeing as they could also be not verbose enough, how do you get a sense of when your unit tests are the right size? My assumption is that (at least in the context of web development) you should have one test fixture class per page. I know of a good quote for this and it's: "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

  I'm learning about metaclasses in Python. I think it is a very powerful technique, and I'm looking for good uses for them. I'd like some feedback of good useful real-world examples of using metaclasses. I'm not looking for example code on how to write a metaclass (there are plenty examples of useless metaclasses out there), but real examples where you have applied the technique and it was really the appropriate solution. The rule is: no theoretical possibilities, but metaclasses at work in a real application. I'll start with the one example I know: Django models, for declarative programming, where the base class Model uses a metaclass to fill the model objects of useful ORM functionality from the attribute definitions. • recommend a server side technology for gwt (beginner)

  hi all ! I am developing a gwt project and am looking for an appropriate server side technology. it should support be open source and support user login (and not using openID...) with password recovery etc it seems that the de-facto standard would be spring + hibernate. however, I am unfamiliar with neither of them and understand that the learning curve (especially for spring) is very high. gwt was quite easy to learn using GOOG's excellent online tutorials but the spring equivalent seem to impose lots of configuration files and deeper understanding of its internals. so I am looking for a simpler server side technology to deploy my gwt app. I am definitely prepared to learn a new framework if necessary but not something that would take me 2 months just to understand the fundamentals... any ideas...?

• Graphing special functions in Matlab (2D Bessel)

  I'm trying to essentially get something like this where I can see clear ripples at the base but otherwise it's like a Gaussian: This is kind of unsatisfactory because the ripples aren't very noticeable, it has a very gritty quality that obscures the image a bit, and if you move the graph so that it's just in 2D (so it looks like a circle) I'm not even sure if it's quite like how it should be (the concentric circles seem to be more evenly spaced in the real thing).   Hi, In C++, I have a base class A, a sub class B. Both have the virtual method Visit. I would like to redefine 'Visit' in B, but B need to access the 'Visit' function of each A (and all subclass to). I have something like that, but it tell me that B cannot access the protected member of A! • The importance of knowing c++ for web application development

  I'm a php developer and I want to broaden my knowledge base by learning a higher language (java, c#, c++). My specialty is in building web applications (ria etc). I'm trying to think of the appropriate path to take (hedging my bets so to speak) in terms of which language I should be focusing on. I love open source technology but at the same time C# seems to be getting a lot of notoriety. Despite the newer technologies available there still remains c++ which is the staple for many popular vendors including google and facebook (hip hop) in building scalable and robust cross platform apps. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I should be looking at this. Should I go Java, C# or C++). They all take time to master and I just want to choose a specialty. Thanks
