• Specific ordering of records based on list of IDs? with MySQL & PHP

  I have a 'user' table in MySQL When users login to my app, they can see a list of all other users and via some javascript-drag-drop can arrange which order the other users appear in. We want to save that order. And it is saved to their record (i.e. 'order_pref' = 4,3,5,23... list of user_ids in the order they specified). So that's fine but when it comes to displaying.. Is there an easy way I can sort based on this comma delimited list of user_ids using just one query?

• Flex 3 and flash player caching

  hi, i pass text strings from a configuration file into my Flex app, one of the strings i pass in is a mailto link which i use to allow users of my app to send me feedback. I recently needed to change this link however when i updated the link in my config file the change did not happen instantly in my Flex app. In fact i had to clear my cache (both browser and flash player) before the change showed up. This of course is fine for me but how can i be sure that users of the application also get the updated content? Is there a way to force a refresh of data loaded into my swf on other users browsers? Finally is this an issue with my browser cache or the Flash player cache? Does the flash player only keep such data, like my email address, in memory while the app is in use and then clear once it is closed or does it cache this data for the next time the user wants to use the app? Suppose I have connection string as follows: initial catalog=Northwind; Min Pool Size=20;Max Pool Size=500; data source=localhost; Connection Timeout=30; Integrated security=sspi" as Max Pool Size is 500 and as live users exceed 500 say 520 will the remaining 20 users experience slower page load?? • Login fails after upgrade to ASP.net 4.0 from 3.5

  I cannot log in using any of the membership accounts using .net 4.0 version of the app. It fails like it's the wrong password, and FailedPasswordAttemptCount is incremented in my_aspnet_membership table. (I am using membership with mysql membership provider.) I can create new users. They appear in the database. But I cannot log in using the new user credentials (yes, IsApproved is 1). One clue is that the hashed passwords in the database is longer for the users created using the asp.net 4.0 version, e.g 3lwRden4e4Cm+cWVY/spa8oC3XGiKyQ2UWs5fxQ5l7g=, and the old .net 3.5 ones are all like +JQf1EcttK+3fZiFpbBANKVa92c=. I can still log in when connecting to the same db with the .net 3.5 version, but only to the old accounts, not the new ones created with the .net 4.0 version. The 4.0 version cannot log in to any accounts. I tried dropping the whole database on my test system, the membership tables are then auto created on first run, but it's still the same, can create users, but can't log in.

  Hi, I have a really basic question concerning unix timestamp and mysql date. I'm trying to build a small website where users can register and fill in their birthdate. Problem is that unix starts with Jan 01 1970. Now if i calculate age for users, form dates like date('m.d.Y', $unix_from_db) and so on it will fail with users older that 40 years, right? So what would be the rigth way for doing this. Sorry, for basic question like this, but I'm inexperienced with php and mysql.

  I think one of the more difficult concepts to understand in the Zend Framework is how the Table Data Gateway pattern is supposed to handle multi-table joins. Most of the suggestions I've seen claim that you simply handle the joins using a $db-select()... Yet putting it in the controller seems wrong because why would a controller handle a SQL statement? Anyway, I feel like ZF makes handling datasets from multiple tables more difficult than it needs to be. Any help you can provide is great... Thanks!

  Hi guys, I'd like to create a website with similar concept as 'Hot or Not' where users need to sign up to the website and then upload photos. Each photo can be given a description and some additional fields. Other users may comment and rate the photo entries. On top of that, users may favourite/bookmark (and remove) any photo entries and they're accessible via their profile page That's generally how the website will be. Can't decide on a CMS to use Somehow I'm at a crossroad here. I've done some research and found that Joomla has an extension that is able to pull this website off but the thing is I'm not that comfortable with using Joomla. I work with WordPress most of the time, but I can't seem to figure out how would I build this website with WordPress. Would using BuddyPress make it work? Would hiring a plugin developer to customize some plugins work? What do you guys think?

I am testing on localhost, for single user, it returns very fast. But when I try 1000, it takes forever, not even mentioned 40k users. Anyway to optimise/improve this code? EDIT: By the way, each of the others 20 tables has ~20 - 40k records

• Weird exception with delayed_job

The weird thing is that sometimes refreshing the page or running the command again works! I have a site where I want the user to be able to leave comments on various Models. acts_as_commentable is the obvious starting point for this, but I'm curious if there is a gem / plug-in with a more robust feature-set. For example: Pre-built partial(s) (w/ or w/o Twitter / FB buttons) Partial(s) that utilize jQuery Twitter and / or FB tunnels (push to the users twitter / FB when they comment) Pre-built mechanism for pushing other users comments to users viewing that Model I can see how some of this functionality could be app specific, however, a generic implementation seems like it would be useful. I'm curious if something like this exists or not.

• Rails, different routes for production app.

  Well, maybe not just different routes. Here is the issue at hand, we have an app that we want to present the users with a "beta sign-up" form when the app is running in production, but we still want to be able to login, however in development the app should function normally. For example in development the app's root path would be the page that show's all the products (using a store as an example) but in production we want the app to present the user with a beta page that just has a form for leaving an email, but also be able to sign-in for users that have accounts. We don't need any help with authentication, that's all sorted out more just the setup of redirecting users to the beta page in production so they can't explore the site unless they are logged in. We are using Devise so I thought maybe we could put something in our application controller that's like: before_filter :authenticate_user! if ENV['RAILS_ENV'] == 'production' But that doesn't seem like it works.

I want to use SQLite but I don't find any answer to these questions: SQLite database files are stored on the user's phone, isn't it ?   Starting out with Symfony2 + Doctrine. I have a table with User objects (fos_user), for which my schema contains a roles column of an 'array' type. Doctrine saves fields of this type by serializing them from php 'array' to 'longtext' (in mysql's case). So let's say I have the following users saved into DB: **User1**: array(ROLE_ADMIN, ROLE_CUSTOM1) **User2**: array(ROLE_ADMIN, ROLE_CUSTOM2) **User3**: array(ROLE_CUSTOM2) Now in my controller I want to select all users with ROLE_ADMIN set. Is there a way to write a DQL query which would directly return me User1 and User2? Or do I need to fetch all users to have Doctrine to unserialize roles column and then for each of them do in_array('ROLE_ADMIN', $user-getRoles())? I have searched the DQL part of the manual, but so far did not find anything similar to my needs...

Do I need to use has_and_belongs_to_many? But that also will gives the same meaning. Can some one please suggest the right way for representing these relationships?

  For my client's custom-built CRM, I want users (technicians) to be notified of changes to marked cases via email. This warrants a simple subscription mapping table between users and cases and automated emails to be sent every time a change is made to a case from within the logging method. How do I send 10-100 emails to subscribed users without bogging down my logging method? My SMTP server is on a peer on my LAN, so sends should be quick, but ideally this should be handled by an external queuing process. I can have a cron job send any outstanding emails every 10 minutes, but for this specific client cases are quite time-sensitive and instant notification (as instant as email can be) would be great. How can I send bulk notification emails from within ASP.NET MVC without bogging down my logging method?

  I have 3 types of users in my system. each type has different information I created the following tables: BaseUser(base_user_id, username, password, additional common data) base_user_id is PK and Identity UserType1(user_id, data related to type1 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id UserType2(user_id, data related to type2 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id UserType3(user_id, data related to type3 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id Now I have relation from each type of user to warehouses table. Users from type1 and type2 should have only warehouse_id and users from type3 should have warehouse_id and customer_id. I thought about this structure: WarehouseOfUser(base_user_id,warehouse_id) base_user_id is FK to base_user_id in BaseUser WarehouseOfTyp3User(base_user_id,warehouse_id, customer_id) base_user_id is FK to base_user_id in BaseUser The problem is that such structure allows 2 things I want to prevent: 1. add to WarehouseOfTyp3User data of user from type2 or type1. 2. add to WarehouseOfUser data of user from type3. what is the best structure for such case?

  I have an old Access application that has a lot of code in forms and reports. The database is getting too large and I am thinking of moving the back end to SQL Server. My requirements are as follows: The DB needs to be multiuser and the users (3-5) will need to log in over the web I would prefer not to re-write the forms and reports in ASP or some other web front end. When I think about my choices, I see them as: Have an Access ADP front end and allows remote log-in to the server where it is stored. Not sure if it is possible for 2 users to simultaneously log in Distribute an ADP front end to the users, but I am not sure if it is possible to connect to a SQL Server back end over the internet, and the network traffic may be an issue. Any other solution? I appreciate all help. u

Even though the example listed blow is not my real code, yet very similar to the original one. public class ConnectionFactory{ private static ConnectionFactory instance; public static synchronized ConnectionFactory getInstance(){ if( instance == null ){ instance = new ConnectionFactory(); } return instance; } private ConnectionFactory(){ // private constructor implementation } } Because I'm not quite sure about the behavior of a static synchronized method, I get some suggestion from google -- do not have (or as less as possible) multiple static synchronized methods in the same class. I guess when implementing static synchronized method, a lock belongs to Class object is used so that multiple static synchronized methods may degrade performance of the system. Am I right? or JVM use other mechanism to implement static synchronized method? What's the best practice if I have to implement multiple static synchronized methods in a class? Thank you all!
